"I don't know enough about the situation to be able to give a qualified opinion."
Something not heard near enough.
There is no water shortage, it is just falling in the wrong places. It has seemed to rain nearly every single day in the NE of England, since the end of last summer. Every grassed area is a water logged quagmire, and it has been for the last 6 months at least, sick of it !
The amnesty law Stuart is something that is going to bite Sanchez in the arse.
not if Puigdemont and his party JUNTS looses in the upcoming Catalan elections, which most polls suggest will happen. In that case Puigdemont will be a washed up has been and will soon be dumped from leadership of JUNTS
So many contentious comments, To start Spain belongs to the spanish I have been here 33 years, and have never found a spanish person that I didn't like (except on the roads) they polite, informative and always forgiving when I stumble with the language, and as for the rain it comes when it comes thank goodness. Oh sorry hi Stu
The Spanish LOVE native English speaking English teachers but they want them to speak a decent level of Spanish.
Good question stu on the 2-5pm break, what do you do? Too little time to go home, then head home to sleep. I’d rather spend less time at or near work and more time at home.
Hi. Andy here from Chile. Catalonia will always want to be independent because they think Barcelona can support the whole community. That wet dream will never go away also because there are historical events they use to justify hatred towards Spanish. They think they’re a different nation but they eat the same food, have the same customs and they speak Spanish perfectly. I think they feel superior and they’re just a normal community
In most of the Hispanic world, we love the late hours, even in Florida!
Independents only if there is a 75% in favour.....
If catalonians do decide to vote on independence, then a honest and full analysis of the pros and cons of the consequences of the vote should take place. It shouldn’t be another brexit, where brits ended up saying ,,,they lied to me, companies struggling to get stock out of england, and losing eu benefits.
Let Catalonia vote, but remind them off the special tax that spain will put on them for education-Defense-police-etc-etc , and the fact that they will outside EU like the UK, and it seems a very big change in goverment in the UK, could also happen to Catalonia!!!!!!!!
Catalonia is the wealthiest province in Spain & would be welcomed with open arms by the EU.
@@uptonmanor only in your dreams!
Not correct, Spain as an existng MS would oppose, as would France and Belgium who have ther own spearatism issues. Catalonia coudl aplly but it would take years to be admitted if at all
Remember: 10o'clock in Spain is like 8o'clock in the UK!
No it's not. There is only a one hour difference. 22:00 hrs in Spain is 21:00 hrs in the UK.
If Catalunya seceded from Spain, wouldn't they no longer be part of the European Union? If so, wouldn't they have to go to the end of the line to apply?
That was a quote President Obama made at the request of David Cameron. Lol
This very same topic is discussed in Scotland. Fast track or slow track?
@@uptonmanorExcept Obama went out of his way to say "queue" 😂
Yes indeed they would have to re-apply to EU and Spain would not support their entry, nor would France or Belgium
@@Eurobazz It was the UK that left the EU, over 60% of Scotland wanted to remain in EU. Now that UK and Scotalnd are out of EU Scotland could apply if it separated from UK. And I think it would get a sympathetic hearing in Brussels and support from Ireland. UK wouldnt have any say as non members of EU.
I've only been here six months and I've already had a guts full of hearing about Cataluña
I do NOT think the majority of residents of Catalonia want to be an independent state. A vocal minority of about 25-30% do, and they get alot of press coverage and make alot of noise. But what about the other 70% of those who dont make as much noise?
No independence for Catalonia.
I agree. I just don't think it would be as good as they think it will be. But, I don't live there I just know that Unions are Stronger than individual smaller countries. And if it's only a quarter of the population who wants that, it's not worth it.
What to say about corruption in Spain…it’s endemic at every level of society. Reasons are many fold but low pay, high taxes, ancient accounting systems and too many state/local authority employee’s. Truth is everyone does it so no incentive to change.
it is far worse in the UK, it is called '....tory party business as usual...' At least it is called 'corruption' in Spain
The multi governmental levels of national law, 17 autonomous communities' law and the law of 50 provinces allows this to happen as do the many layers of police forces. An administrative streamlining needs to take place. Will it happen? Of course not! Jobs for the boys.
In a list of 42 European countries Spain ranked 19 in the corruption index while the UK ranked 15.
Never mind Easter processions here in Barcelona we have two postal deliveries a week; when we are lucky.
Thank you
😂. I really laughed out loud at the “good riddance” comment. Just bought a house in zamoranos. Looking forward to being over next week to finalise. Harley Davidson trip over. 👍🏻🏍️
I fully agree with Stu´s good riddance comment on the guy whose message he read at the star of this video....
Loved your comment regarding the arrogant guy from the UK. That's some splendid candor
Splendid Candor! So refreshing!
The independence issue is really one for the Spanish.. personality I wouldn't like to see it happen..
Neither would I n I hope it never does !
I have worked in colegios that have the break during the day and ones that finsh at two and you are done. I have to say I prefer to work straight through and not have to go back but I also realize many families benefit from the the split schedule.
Also talking with staff that work the hospitality sector, the late nights often drain them especially workng for peanuts and Spain not being a tip culture to make it worth their time... such a difficult position as I too enjoy the late hours.
Hi Stu, love it when you get angry with a comment - mind you i dont blame you for that one!!!
I grew up in Germany. Yes, we always went out having dinners ending around 1:00PM in the morning.
1:00 am ?
Water trumps everything. Nice job Stu!
Mil gracias por el vídeo Stuart.tbh corruption goes on all over but perhaps in Spain 🇪🇸 its not as refined in other countries so people get caught out .had a business in Birmingham city centre for 32 years. Could tell you a story or muchas mas
When I have to vote for the referendum, I'd vote No as we haven't got enough info on what this secession entails. I'm ready to emigrate elsewhere in Spain.
The siuation in Catalonia is very much like the Quebec / Canada saga. The separatist Quebec Parti Quebecois provincial govt held two referenda on what they called "Sovereignty Association" (which no one could define). The first was in the 1970s and the second in the 1990s. They lost both, although the second one was quite close, 51% against and 49% for. The issue with the second referendum was that the question was worded in such a convoluted way that no meant yes and yes meant no. Following that referendum, the Canadian federal govt passed a law regarding the clarity of any future referendum questions. In teh years since the 1990s the PQ has all but faded out from Quebec politics and has not been in govt for over a decade with little chance of makimg any gains.
@@larrybxl5406 Totally agree with you about the Québec situation. Bring half French, I have followed both referenda and I do remember the famous question if the last referendum... my father and I had to read the question about 3 times to realise how confusing it was. Always thought that the Catalans can be sensible people, but emotional or Populist campaigns are always dangerous as people don't think. They just react.
Llovió sobre Andalucía, perros y gatos😂😂😊
As Abe Lincoln once quoted: "A house divided against itself cannot stand." Good luck Spain
Corruption in public office of some sort of description !!!!never !!!!!
How the other half try to cream off the gravy train !!!!!!!
And hope no one will notice .......
Follow the money Trail......
.
i don't know what helps more, laughing or crying
None of our business...
A brit complaining about corruption in a foreign country? Now that’s hilarious.
Btw not that you shouldn’t talk about it, the more talk about these issues the better, but coming from a brit considering the rampant corruption with the tories is a bit funny.
Guess you’re referring to me in your post? I’m quite old fashioned actually in the I believe that having paid into the Spanish tax systems for nearly 20-years, I’m entitled to express an opinion regardless of my nationality. Spain is my home and will be so until I depart in a box. I will have contributed into the many pots and watched it being flung around like confetti. My Spanish neighbours pretty much all agree.
Independent Catalonia? No, nope, nuh-uh, naw, non, nyet.
I think independence would be bad for Cataluña and bad for Spain. As Brexit was bad for the UK and bad for the EU. We need to move forward together in an increasingly dangerous world.
Moses parted the sea, so it's obvious.
Will holiday makers walk away from Spain as Spain makes another warning to holiday makers.
Spain holiday warning you now will need two documents to enter the country.
Tourists will need 'additional documents' when visiting Spain.
Apart from passports, travellers are being told to bring two more documents with them on the plane, ready to show at border control. This includes a valid return or onward ticket, such as the return leg of a plane ticket a hotel booking receipt or an address if they're visiting friends or family. They will need further documentation if they are visiting a second home.
On top of these documents, holidaymakers will also be asked to prove they have enough money for their stay. The Spanish government's website says the current minimum amount expected per person per day is €113.40.
I might be a little confused, but I want to understand. The Post Office (Correos) can't handle the delivery of an extra 300 letters per day and get them delivered on time? It seems to me that the scandal here is not "town hall revenue raising", but the fact that the postal system is so bad that 300 extra items to deliver per day makes it collapse. Am I wrong?
Its actually about 55 to 60% want independance.
Any evidence at all? Source?
We know what God's preference is. God made it rain in Andalucia so considers the Easter parades are less important 😊
That's hilarious, typical Spanish. Instead of encouraging people to drive more slowly with fines, then remove the speed camera.
If there are too many fines, might be an idea to remove driving license as well as installing large and numerous speed bumps.
Stu, I know you visit Portugal on a regular basis, but are you doing it legally? The 90 day rule applies to non-EU citizens. Citizens with an EU passport are free to spend over 90 days in any EU country. But you still have an Australian passport. You are a Spanish resident, not a Spanish national, and therefore do not have an EU passport. So the 90 day rule applies to you as well. If you were ever to fly from Madrid to Lisbon you would have to negotiate a Portuguese customs check with your Australian passport. They would look it up on their computer to discover that as a Spanish resident you have already spent 90 days within the EU 's borders. And therefore, according to the rules, you would not be allowed entry into Portugal. In fact they may be able to fine you for attempting to extend your stay over 90 days in another EU country. So, is the only reason you have been able to freely enter Portugal is because you drive there and your passport is not checked by Portuguese custom officials on the border? But if for any reason you were pulled over by Portuguese police, they might check the validity of your stay and come to conclusion you have exceeded your 90 day allowance. And of course the same would apply to France and any other EU country.
EU Brussels shouldn't have power to over-ride Spain's national courts.
Spain ix a member of the EU .
Oh yes they can especially with something as important as amnesty and what it could lead to with a possible independent Catalonia and the impact it would have on Spain, a sovereign nation within the EU.
@@Eurobazz Majority of Spanish people support EU membership, as an intelligent cultured people I'm sure the Spanish will find a way of dealing with any issues relating to the EU without antagonising their neighbours.
@@michaelogrady1002 I hope you're right.
@@Eurobazz They have an example of excepsionalist supremacist behaviour in recent history from which to learn lessons from.Europe and the wider world is no longer accepting of that kind of behaviour.
Yes, to an independent Catalunya as long as it remains part of the EU & Schengen zone. My wife has family who live in Barcelona.
It would have to apply to join and get in the queue..
Keep on dreaming.
@@123seanaway It depends....both Spain and Catalonia would change as political entities and thus would both be successor states to the Kingdom of Spain.
I’m afraid you can’t have your cake and eat it ! You can’t pick and choose the good parts !!!
@@harriettt9857 everything is negotiable. Cataluña is not Great Britain…which did abysmal job negotiating terms with the EU on its wrong-headed and shortsighted Brexit
Yes independence for Catalonia. The End !!
Why? Would you care discuss the pros and cons or is it just an ill informed gut feeling?
