    8:10 "Ditching your body armour".
*A proposal for upgrading the standard loadout of RDA Troopers, greatly increasing survivability for minimal cost*
With the low gravity on Pandora, ground units are capable of carrying _a far heavier loadout_ that is standard for jungle warfare on Earth, and the opposition is different as well, this has not been taken into account.
First of all flexible bullet proof armour should be replaced with rigid armour that can stop a ballista bolt, not a bullet.
[In the meanwhile carrier plates made of metal can be used until the new armour arrives to reinforce current gear]. At the very least providing full torso coverage - the Colonial Marines have a acceptable design (and if you could get any M56 smartguns that would be great!).
And instead of a face mask a full helmet is advised. Face mask are to easy to damage, or get slipped _or pulled_ off. A rigid helmet with an integral mask would allow a lot of useful upgrades to be built in and would protect against concussion and hostile removal of, or damage, to breathing apparatus.
A helmet can include a full Heads Up Display, which along with image intensification, thermal vision and vision enhancement can greatly increase situational awareness, counteracting the advantage the natives have in sensory perception.
This can also help with unit manovering as friendlies can use IFF signals that would be risky against a technological foe that could detect them.
We could move without talking out loud, only using radio chatter and beaming our location to other squad members, without fear of signal interception.
And we could relay any sightings to teammates HUDS.
There are other advantages to a full helmet, inbuilt water and food paste feed while in field, a simple AI advisor on local wildlife, with action warnings.
And a inbuilt cooling system, this would greatly improve trooper comfort and in-field endurance.
Cooling could also be added to torso armour at minimal cost.
For slightly more initial investment, a full body suit of articulated body armour could be provided, further reducing casualty rates and increasing lethality of armed personnel.
As for firearms, I recommend heavier caliber weapondry as the wildlife is tougher than standard enemy forces.
And portable anti armour weapons would be useful against some of the larger fauna that can shrugg off GAU 30mm rounds from a AMP walker.
As for the AMP Walker, a immediate upgrade is needed to the canopy, a weak point know to the natives that they can peirce with their arrows.
A simple grate can be welded on to hinder arrows getting through as a stop gap measure. But heavy reinforcing of the canopy is required.
There is a VR upgrade package available, which can be tied into a enhanced sensor array. It comes with armoured sensors in a distributed array.
That with a retractable blast shield on the canopy should make the AMP impervious to Na'vi attack.
Although shoulder mounted armour peircing rockets should be considered in the light of the durability of the Hammerhead Titanothere.
I have purchased for myself a full rigid armour suit for myself with cooling, inbuilt life support and a built in sensor visor.
But troops should not be expected to provide their own gear in this situation, I hope you consider my proposal, and also take into account that I am the only uninjured survivor of the Candalie basin incident, I credit that to my gear that I chose personally.
Now about combat drones … …

Metal armor would stop Navi arrows because of its hardness- it'll hurt like hell, but a stone arrow won't actually penetrate hardened steel- the arrow shaft will shatter on impact.
For guarding convoys, gun trucks are a must- fast, maneuverable, and sporting .50 cal HMGs and bigger. The mech suits are useful, but slower than wheeled vehicles (plus require less maintenance). Mix and match gun platforms as appropriate.
When on foot, use microterrain and camouflage. This isn't a SWAT team operating in an urban zone. Small dismounted infantrymen can meld into the environment very easily.
Yes, napalm and white phosphorous would be good at destroying vegetation. Agent Orange is also an option.
Any caliber that can't kill wildlife on the planet is to be left behind. Individual arms should be able to reliably kill Navi at a minimum, and larger guns should be able to kill megafauna.
Do not attempt hand-to-hand combat. If they're close, that's what full-auto is for. Use semi-auto for mid-range combat. Do not forget to issue/cache spare ammo.
Carry entrenching tools. If there is a sustained battle, digging in will provide protection and make grazing fire easy.
Make sure every section/squad carries at least 1 crew-served weapon. Machine guns are better at producing casualties than assault rifles, and can be used for both direct- and indirect-fire. The mortars should follow a ratio of one per squad/section.
No patrol goes out if it cannot be supported by fire. Artillery is the king of battle, and airburst shells will kill Navi, dire horses, and fliers alike.

And release the payload _as soon as_ you're low enough to guarantee a hit, don't drop any lower than necessary, it might bring you within range of the local aerial wildlife.
Perhaps even test drop with markers first, and if they score a hit … bombs away. Otherwise adjust to target and test again, if you're still in the stratosphere the natives can do nothing to stop you.

The Secops-GF were purely a mop up force that was particularly not needed in this operation. Could have also sent them after the fact while still keeping them at base for defense

Adding to the Thought, put research into Militarizing the Avatar Project, not by using Na'Vi Bodies, but by adapting a "Chimera Soldier" that can Breathe the Air, and be operated by a soldier from the Safety of the Base. Having one as a "Leader trooper" would allow for co-ordinated attacks on the Na'Vi, as well as an Early Warning and Spotter unit.
If that is Not Possible, wear an ODST-style BDU. The armor doesn't weigh down the User, it actually provides a _Lot_ of protection (Halo 3 ODST has ODST 'Romeo' survive a Gravity Hammer Blade, which is made from a Tungsten Alloy, to the chestplate. Na'Vi Stone tipped arrows shouldn't stand a _Chance_ of Penetrating it.), and it comes with a Helmet that has a Built-In Scrubber unit and Air Reserve, while also providing an excellent field of view.
Adding to ODSTs, is to have HEVs that can be dropped from space or from a Valkyrie Shuttle high enough for the Na'Vi to be unable to counter them. It also means that the Drop Pods can either flatten any Na'Vi unlucky enough to be on the LZ, and for those that aren't? They'll get a HEV Door flying into their face and a barrage of either 7.62 Caseless Rounds straight to the chest, or 5.56 High-Velocity cased bullets to the head and neck.
And this is where we get to weapons. The M7(S) SMG is excellent for the ODST once they make their landing, as the Na'Vi would be at Close enough range to be unable to avoid the bullets, while the MA5B can easily shred their Carbon-Reinforced endoskeletons, as the MA5B's predecessor, the MA37's, only real Shortcomings had occurred when it was facing off against the Personal Energy shields of Elite and Brute Covenant Soldiers.
The Na'Vi lack such useful protection, so even if the MA37 is the only model availible to the Security forces, it would still be brutally effective in the hands of both them ahd the ODST, as their foes in the Na'Vi don't even have _body armor,_ relying entirely on their agility and reinforced bones.
And that isn't even getting to the M6H and M6H2 sidearms, packing _12_ 12.6mm Hi-Explosive rounds per magazine, a Holosight system in the case of the M6H2, being deadly accurate as well as Super Compact, considering the Firepower and Caliber of the bullets they pack, forget ODSTs, give the Ground Troops these mighty Pistols as a Fallback, and You'll be popping Na'Vi heads with these! They're made to blow open body armor and the Squishy innards underneath! What chance does an unarmored Na'Vi gonna have?!
And don't even get me started on Snipers! All they would have needed was the 99C Series anti-material rifles, and the Navi would have retreated a _lot_ sooner, since during the Battle of Pandora, there was a Distinctive lack of a Sniper among the soldiers! That is literally a Big Mistake to miss out on! _WWI tactics_ had snipers hiding in Trees, underbrush and even in Trenches or towers, in places where they had a Decent Sight Picture, but out of sight of the Enemy!
Note the Navi Tactics used! They didn't play their strengths on the ground battle. They didn't have 'Rangers' in the trees, they just charged with horses!
The Security forces should have had Snipers hiding among the Trees, under rocks, or even Hitching a Ride on an AMP Suit to allow for full protection and field of view! In WWI, prior to the arrival of tanks, soldiers _feared_ the Sniper, even going as far as to call _Artillery Strikes_ on possible sniper positions! The Na'Vi don't have Artillery, so Snipers would get their hyper-lethal "Play times".

This got a lot longer than I anticipated, oops.
something of note, in jungle warfare, you could have 500 men guarding a a mile wide section of ridgeline, with heavy machine guns, dug in bunkers, mortars, air support on standby for rapid defensive bombardments, all the bells and whistles, and the jungle will cut your sight line down to maybe 100 yards, tops. aerial drones would be nearly useless, even with thermal cameras the canopy will block all sight to the jungle floor for any meaningful view. that being said, your 500 men on the ridgeline could be all ready for a fight, and the enemy would march 200 yards past the position, and you'd never see them, hear them, maybe you could smell them, but smell is a pretty hard thing to aim a machine gun at. then, the next day, the enemy has flanked your defensive line by taking a pass through the ridgeline a half mile down from you, and is now assaulting you from the side where all your supply and support positions are.
the Navi are also adept climbers, and stealthy, meaning they would easily know your positions before you knew theirs. out on patrol, this problem would be exacerbated to an extreme, with the Navi almost always controlling the when and where an engagement would happen. there is a saving grace to this though, the thing of paramount importance to a successful patrol skirmish is putting more ordinance on the other guy in the opening flurry. the navi would get the first shot probably 7 times out of 10, but the RDA would fire a hundred rounds for every single arrow fired at them, along with grenades, autocannon shells, etc. so while the initial hit would probably see the RDA dropping like flies while they figured out where they were being engaged from, any navi that was seen would quickly go from a 10 foot blue ballista to a 10 foot blue swiss cheese.
On weaponry, while many navi arrows are tipped with poison, any arrow wound that isn't poison(or a critical organ/artery) is easily treated by RDA medical tech, while even a small caliber wound from the PDW/SMG's the RDA carries could be a death sentence to the low tech Navi. once you get into the full power rounds from the LMG's and door guns(.50 cal) on the sampson transports, it goes from a few little holes to one small hole in the impact and a dinner plate sized exit wound that probably blew out several vital organs. Expanding on that thought the Navi are not signatory to the Hague Convention, or Geneva, meaning CBRN weapons, expanding, exploding, incendiary, or poison bullets, machine guns with a caliber larger than 0.5" are not prohibited against them. so now that full power .30 caliber machinegun can fire rounds with a gram of explosive that will go off inside the target, spraying razor sharp shrapnel through whatever it hits. any dying or surrendered navi can be summarily executed, or tortured for information, they have no rights or status as a prisoner of war, there will be no expectations of "humane" treatment in the form of medical care or food rationing to captured civilian population centers. This totally erases any hesitation or reasons for not using massed strategic bombardment by air assets or heavy ground based artillery like Rockets or howitzers, or indeed, in this situation, orbital kinetic weapons such as smaller asteroids and "rods from god" so long as their use doesn't endanger friendly positions.
Going on the lore from the Avatar game, there are four mainline weapon types used by the standard RDA grunt, the SMG, of which several models in various calibers are readily available. they make excellent CQB weapons due to tremendous fire rates. there are handguns, which I assume there are magnum revolvers AND autoloading designs similar to a Glock or 1911, Then of course the venerable assault rifle, again, many variations are offered, with several calibers and fire rates, but all are capable of automatic fire with massive magazine capacity, probably the best choice for general purpose usage. my favorite, is the battle rifles, with most being semi-automatic or burst firing, with high power rifle rounds akin to a 7.62x51/.303 British. these rifles would probably be the favorite of any forces on defensive duty, as the accuracy and power would put down most navi in one or two hits. there are also grenade launchers, Light machine guns, flame throwers, combat shotguns, undermounted grenade launchers/shotguns that can fit on most standard issue weapons. a flamethrower would be an excellent weapon to pair with patrol duty, as any Navi ambush or supply cache could rapidly be burned to death from quite a distance away. grenade launchers are also tremendously helpful in environments where you might run into soft targets at brutally close range, but also run the risk of pissing off alien tigers the size of elephants with their ability to fire dual purpose grenades (still have the shrapnel effect, but a different lay out of the charge gives them a light anti-armor ability as well) or even incendiaries for burning out stubborn resistance.
The navi on the other hand have what? spears, clubs, and a massive longbow that realistically still wouldn't be able to penetrate a wearable steel armor plate. when the low gravity is accounted for the advantage shifts even further in the RDA's favor, because now the previously bulky and heavy machinegun is only two or three pounds heavier than a standard rifle would be on earth, you can carry more bullets, full torso coverage steel plate armor to defeat the arrows, and the RDA troopers would still be just as if not more maneuverable than they would with their previous kit on earth. if you read this far damn. I get a bit ranty about how dumb the dances with blue aliens plotline ending is. any time a technologically superior foe faces a primitive opponent, the primitives get their shit thoroughly and repeatedly kicked in until they surrender or die.

Did he say that the back were "12 feet or 16 kilometers in height"? I'm american so I'm a little bad with the metric system, shouldn't that be 16 meters?

I never got the effectiveness of the Navi arrows. Unless the RDA only wears soft body armor it shouldn’t go through. I mena yeah you’ll get some broken ribs but it shouldn’t penetrate hard body armor.

No body armor can stop a HVAPS. (high velocity armor penetrating spear) Better just not to get hit.

Jake doomed the Navi pretty much. If Unobtainium is really that important to humanity. Then about 2 decades later a whole fking armada is going to decent from orbit. Human when desperate will go to any length just to get what they want.

Remember Rods from God. The light pole long of metal droped from space to generate enough kenetic energy to a MOAB or small nuclear bomb without the nuclear fallout... why not that?
