  • Hello CZcamsrs .
    Is Canon dominating the camera market at the moment in 2018???? It look`s like anyway .
    I saw a video a few days ago and I was very very surprised . In that video the CZcamsr was talking about the market share and who is leading the market at the moment . It is a very interesting fact that Canon is the leader of the market still and surprisingly even the mirrorless sales shows that they are athe leader of the camera market. What do you think about this???? Please let me know your opinion in a comment.

    You echo my thoughts exactly, for such a long time I'm constantly dumbfounded by Canons strengthening position in the camera market. I see an abundance of Canon cameras and lenses for sale second hand, most likely from all the users who jumped ship to Sony. On paper and with the exception of their excellent dual pixel AF their cameras offer very little that should make them in any way competitive yet they still top the sales charts year in, year out....how? lol 😊 Obviously their huge user base has a lot to do with that but surely their massive lead over other competitors should be dwindling as the likes of Sony, Panasonic/Olympus and Fujifilm erode their sales. This doesn't seem to bear out in terms of real world sales figures, all these other camera companies combined still can't match the power of Canon it seems? So what gives? Well, I've used Canon cameras but chose to go with Nikon as my primary system. The only Canon I use now is my tiny G9X 1" sensor compact which I love and take everywhere with me. I'd certainly urge you to try out a Canon camera if only to satisfy your curiosity. Despite me being Nikon-centric I can't deny Canon cameras are a pleasure to use and their output beautiful ( note I didn't say technically superior). Perhaps all this mirrorless hype is exactly that and the reality is that whilst everybody is talking about mirrorless, the fact is few are actually buying into it. Maybe Canons late entry into FF mirrorless ( and Nikon's too ) is starting to make sense 😋

    Atilla, surely the biggest mirrorless camera manufacturer in Japan and everywhere is Apple?
    Last summer I was in Athens, so of course I had to visit the Acropolis. It is one of the most photographed places on earth and I spent a lot of time looking at people's cameras. Most people were using smartphones, but of those using 'proper' cameras I would say 98% of people were using Canon or Nikon. After a week in Greece I had seen perhaps two Fuji's, a couple of Pentax, a few Sony's, one Olympus, all the rest were Canon or Nikon. CZcamsrs may hype up these smaller manufacturers but in my experience Canikon will remain dominant for many years to come. They are the brands everybody knows, and people are conservative when spending money!

    • @BlueSkyPhotography

      Saurat yes that might be true. But I'm really curious about the Canon color. Everybody praises the color on Canon cameras.

      I've been a Canon user for twenty years and I have to tell you Canon colour science seems fantastic. I may adjust some elements of colour when I am processing Raw files, but only if I want to achieve a certain look, like an old Ektachrome film look, but otherwise Canon colour is exactly as I see it with my eyes. Apparently other manufacturers have a problem doing this. Canon's menu system and ergonomics are also the best in my opinion.

  • @koolkutz7
    @koolkutz7 Před 6 lety

    I think Canon continues to be very popular for several reasons; 1. They really went all in with DSLR tech when digital cameras took off. They produced full frame straight away, appealing to pro sports/press shooters, Nikon were way behind and it took ages for them to bring out their 1st full-frame DSLR-the D3. 2. They aggressively market their entry-level DSLR's at rock bottom prices, often offering twin lens deals & other freebies to hook customers in. They know that once a customer has committed so much money they will want to progress and buy more lenses, flashguns etc as they get further into their own photography practice. 3. The modern Canon cameras (particularly the semi-pro & pro level bodies) offer solid specs such as Dual Pixel AF, fully articulating touchscreen and decent build quality. 4. Canon has built up a good range of lenses to cover every photographic situation and to suit most budgets. Plus you can always choose some great third party lens options from Sigma, Tamron, Tokina and others who offer a good range of alternatives (the same could be said of Nikon too). 5. The Canon 'colour sceince'. The secret sauce that some (but not all) seem to like; particularly for portraits.

    This is interesting. I've been involved with the Japanese brands - Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha & Suzuki - of motorcycles for 50 plus years. Had my own independent service shop for 38 yrs. Although all 4 brands started exporting bikes in the 1960s - Honda started the first with their 50cc. Back then, I was a teen - with plenty of hair, & I noticed that when some folks would refer to a motorbike they saw, they would call it a ' Honda ' Didn't mater what make it was. It was, " Look - There goes a Honda. " Since the mid 70s when I opened my shop, I noticed that @ half the bikes that came in were Honda's. In fact, in the macro / overall U S market sales, Honda has ' always ' sold a bit over 50% of the total bike sales. Maybe there is a connection here with why Canon is on top. ?

    • @BlueSkyPhotography
      @BlueSkyPhotography  Před 6 lety

      Ray Jenkins Honda cars as well are exceptionally good. I askedy mechanic lately " when did you see a Honda in the garage?" He can't even remember he said. And there are plenty of Hondas running around here I tell you that. So long story short, Canon has a history in photography like Honda. So maybe you are right mate. 😂😂😂

    • @rayjenkins2754
      @rayjenkins2754 Před 6 lety

      I don't think that Honda motorcycles were particularly better built than the other 3 - Kawi, Yamaha or Suzuki - but I think Honda got it's nose out front - especially in advertising ' You meet the nicest people on a Honda '. Once the name ' Honda ' was impressed on the U S consumer's thinking , to a lot of folks in the 60s & 70s, motorcycle = Honda.

    I am a Nikon user (D5500) and I've always been a Nikon fanboy since my Nikormatt ELW. But in some ways I wish I had a Canon with their faster lenses and the auto focus system for video.
    There are many different markets, and Canon seem to dominate most of them.
    I think their change to a bigger mount way back has helped them make faster glass. Look at all the sports photographers on tv
    Also when you are on top, you have more money to spend on R&D.

      I know FF have some advantages but 1. Im not shooting In Low Lights ( If I shoot Landscape longer exposure sort out quality of picture That only type of photography what possibly I shoot after sun set) 2. Size that matter, better take camera what u can fit in the pocket ( GX80)
      3.My GX80 have better dynamic range than few years old 5d mk III , and still so many pro photographers use 5d mk III so its not really matter specs
      Just for example :)

      Yea I shoot both full frame Sony and Panasonic MFT. I do not even look at the Canon. I wanted 4k and I wanted mirrorless. I do not see why canon would be top in mirrorless. I would think sony was as well. Because canon only have 5 lenses for their mirrorless. And they are all slow aperture. No 1.4's and I think only like one 1.8 lens. But Sony needs more high quality APSC lenses as well. I just do not think people look at cameras the same as we do. They think I need a camera and just buy canon because everyone knows canon are good. Once you know about systems and lenses and mirrorless vs DSLR you might be stuck in a brand already because of lenses you buy. It took me years to get good at all the brands and what each offered. And im into the gear. Some people do not even know what their camera is called. I watched a PRO photographer doing a shoot not know what camera model she shot with. She said canon d something. I was like what?

    their market share is also related to their position in the distribution not only to their product. Then the M50 is a light and compact camera with viewfinder allowing to make selfies, in term of sales probably a good concept. But even now as a leader in the mirrorless segment in Japan they are loosing market share and are far from their 60 %. on the SLR market . In FF mirrorless Nikon is coming next.

Canon introduced Dual Pixel focus system as a damage limitation solution to allow shooting video with autofocus when their mirror depended focus sensor is disengaged. If Dual Pixel that good why Canon didn’t replace their main autofocus phase detection sensor with it?

    good point and this way most wedding photographers shoot 5dm3 or 4 it is robust ,I think the canon like apple give you what you need and don't overheat also the focus is the best in market ,I tried 3d tracking in Nikon and Eye detect in Sony ,they are not constantly accurate like canon also the lenses of canon are huge selling also you can buy low budget lens and still perform well , the only thing they don't do is paying people on youtube to advertise for them like sony , and the Pro's don't look to youtube that much, I remember last Soccer world cup it was 90% canon with white L glasses even there is sony a9 and Nikon d5
