A lowboy (low-loader in British English, low-bed in western Canada and South Africa or float in Australia and eastern Canada) is a semi-trailer with two drops in deck height: one right after the gooseneck and one right before the wheels. This allows the deck to be extremely low compared with other trailers. It offers the ability to carry legal loads up to 12 ft (3.66 m) tall, which other trailers cannot. Lowboys are used to haul heavy equipment such as bulldozers, industrial equipment etc.
Fixed gooseneck (FGN): allows a longer deck length and has the lightest weight. These are lower trailers than normal, with low-profile tires, usually with drop ramps in the rear to facilitate loading of equipment, but are not actually considered "lowboys". The neck is arched in such a way, that it when lowered, it becomes a ramp thus allowing the front tires of equipment to be pulled onto the deck.[2]
Fixed-neck: the neck is fixed to trailers; offers the lightest weight, but sacrifices the ability to detach and load over the front
Hydraulic detachable gooseneck (hydraulic RGN or HRGN)): fastest and easiest to detach, at the expense of weight and deck length. It is the most common and versatile of lowboy trailers; the gooseneck is detached using large hydraulic cylinders to raise and lower the trailer and a small cylinder shores the neck to the truck, removing the neck so a large piece of equipment can be driven over the front onto the deck of the trailer for transport. The hydraulics can be run from the truck auxiliary or from a pony motor mounted in the neck of the trailer.[3]
Mechanically-detachable gooseneck (mechanical RGN or MRGN): while usually lighter than the hydraulic detachable gooseneck, users sacrifice ease and speed of detaching. Used for long specialty hauls.[4]
Mechanical folding gooseneck (MFGN): The deck folds down to ground level to provide a ramp for from trailer loading - Auta a dopravní prostředky
fun idea for the second Dozer, have it being retracked, have one track brand new, and the other one heavily weathered and worn, unhooked, to make it look like they are putting on a new track. *edit* Dont shake hands with Danger, and make sure to change one track at a time to avoid a roll-away
Shake hands with danger is a great educational film.
Give it a shot and post it on the FB page!
Shake hands with danger, any guy oughta know. I used to laugh at safety, but now they call me... Three Finger Joe.
@@exploded6649 "Shake Hands with Danger"...awesome name for a band!
Instablaster.
I can't help thinking of the movie killdozer.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE. Everyone keep yourself and love ones safe and healthy.
Thanks Teddy!
That Auto Car hooked up to this would be awesome !
R model mack 👌
Auto Car OH YEAH!!
The oil drum stains on the front deck make it real. Nice touch. Your giving out some very cool secrets - thanks for sharing...
Thanks for watching!
Fantastic build, and as always, great narration (and encouragement)....thanks for posting.
Another sweet piece of work. Thank you, Chris.
Thanks again!
My great uncle was a truck driver he use to haul heavy construction equipment
I remember watching the bulldozer build and with this it really makes a nice set. Thanks for another great build.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice kits. Hopefully we can see more up to date trucks and trailers. By the way that first song sounds like a truck driving song from the 70's CB radio era.
Thanks for spending some time on the channel!
Thanks for the build review Chris and yet another reason to get a second dozer kit!
No problem 👍
Both great kits, nice to see Round2 making a combo kit with the pair! They just go to together so well.. I have a few lowboys and yet to get a D9 Dozer.. Great video and description on parts and build!
It’s all the weathering & detailing, scuffing, fine details that make such great work!!! Awesome!!!!!!
Thank you very much!
I was fortunate enough to join the Navy Seabees 78to83 as a Heavy Equipment Operator and ran different tractor trailers including DM 800 Mack's hauling heavy equipment and operating the equipment. Then the last 40 years running many types of heavy equipment .I built this same dozer when I was growing up on a dairy farm around 73 I believe and I've built a couple of the DM 800 Mack's. This channel takes me back many years.
Thanks a lot! Happy Thanksgiving!
That turned out absolutely fantastic !!!
I must get this kit now !!!
Thanks a lot! Happy Thanksgiving!
This makes me want to get back into building model semis, and trailers again. Maybe someday. This is awesome!
Don't wait, get back in and enjoy your hobby again!
Very neat that they have the 'U Construction' Blazer & El Camino on the boxtop!
Yeah, I've reviewed both on here as well. :)
Very realistic build! I have seen these trailers too and your right, the top gets scuffed and worn but the sides stay pretty clean. Thanks for sharing this.
Right on!
Great work weathering the bed of the trailer Chris. Looks fantastically real.
Thanks a lot! Happy Thanksgiving!
Can't wait to build mine. Awesome vid Chris. Keep em coming.
Thanks! Will do!
I like the idea of using the drill to assist in the weathering of the tires. My kinda thing right there
As a heavy equipment operator that has in fact loaded a cat dozer on a low bow, absolutely realistic sir, you have inspired me to get back in to scale models and I thank you
Looks real in the photos!
Thanks a lot! Happy Thanksgiving!
Really cool build. The detail of the dried caked on mud and the oil stains are a very nice touch.
Thank you very much!
My dad was going to do this. He had almost finished a ute as a pilot vehicle, then was going to do the bulldozer. He'd done the tractor and trailer a few years ago.
He passed on Friday. Never got to finish it.
Super nice job there Chris you really nailed the details to this build thanks for sharing I always anticipate your next build.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome job Chris! Currently working on the exact same kit. I love your weathering techniques.
Great to hear!
Oh, Round 2/AMT molded the Caterpillar D8 bulldozer in yellow again! When AMT first released this kit, I had bought one. The polystyrene was yellow, making assembly reasonably easy.
Twenty years or so ago, AMT re-issued it, as well as Ertl's massive International Harvester off-road dump truck and cement mixer. Unlike Ertl's original issue of their kits decades earlier, however, AMT had cast them in a light grey, increasing the complexity of assembly by an order of magnitude! 😠
To see the D8 in yellow again--saving the builder enormous amounts of work--delights me. A wistful joy, though, for my happiness will be vicarious.
Cool build Chris
Another cool build Chris keep them coming as usual thank you
Thanks, will do!
I built exact same low boy trailer back in the late 80's as a teenager AND still have it !!
I built the dozer in the mid to late 70’s. Of all the plastic models I built in the 70’s, the dozer was always my favorite! Wish I knew what happened to it! Oh well, I’m retired, so better go get this two build kit and get to work!
Awesome build! Great kit. You did great with it. Excellent video.
Thank you! Cheers!
Excellent build & presentation Chris!!
Thank you kindly!
Looks great pulled these trailers very realistic they take a beating one sweet build. They did kit the cement mixer truck in the 80.s buy ertle need it back
That is so cool. Love the blue.
Thanks for watching!
21:19 I don't know why but this is my favorite detail of the real life used look. Well done!
Thanks a lot! Happy Thanksgiving!
I just got the AMT White Freightliner, kit number AMT-620, and noticed it has the same construction company decals as that bulldozer lowboy trailer kit, your ‘65 El Camino, & your crew chief ‘72 Blazer. That would go well with your trailer & lowboy trailer set. Not to mention all would make a great and cool diorama.
Yup, they made sure to match them all up just for that reason.
Cool. I’m going to be painting my truck to be similar to a Transformers toy and paint one of the trailers I got black. I should find out if a fried of mine follows your Facebook page, so that he could post them there and you could see my projects.
I just bought this lowboy trailer with the cat dozer. Very Awesome
Good choice!
the drill trick to make the tires look like they are being used, very good idea
My daughter did the Lowboy and modified it a little bit. I just ordered this kit, and plan to do it as a DOT truck. I like the conspicuity markings on the decal sheet! Chris, as always, great build.
Sounds great!
That looks really sweet. That Autocar tractor would make it super sweet. Love the channel. Awesome builds. Reviews are good and informative.
Thanks a lot! Happy Thanksgiving!
Now you need a Universal Truck to tow it
Excellent job. Looks great.
Thank you very much!
That's a GREAT kit, a must for any model builder!! 👍 👍 👍
Yes indeed!
great models . always good to see your uploads an what your making .gives me some great info over a variety of models ..
Glad you like them!
Great build..very realistic looking just like the real lowboy trailers and semi-tractors that I see😊😊😊👍👍👍
Glad you like it!
I built this trailer 5/6 years ago. It damn near fell together, one of the best assembling trailers I've ever built. I replaced the molded plastic "wood"with real wood. Turned out amazing.
I was waiting for this to be actually released to order it. Glad to hear it's finally in! I'm gonna get this, the big International rock truck, and a separate trailer.(To modify to haul the big rock truck!)
What the heck!?? You finally run out of good ol' Testors silver???
The brush on silver works super nice for dry brushing.
Just wow!😳👍
Thanks a lot! Happy Thanksgiving!
A excellent build mate, well done, I hope you are keeping safe and well
Thanks, you too!
WOW . 500 parts .
That is crazy 😝.
Awesome kit . Mike Espo .
Thanks!
great work!...hey,those unused business logos are great to use as sponsor logos if you do anymore "Saturday Night Specials" stock cars down the road!
Sounds good!
Been looking forward to this build. As always you don't disappoint. The trailer would look nice hooked to that Kenworth W900 you built a while ago
Thanks a lot! Happy Thanksgiving!
Had a couple of AMT D8H model kits over the years , and Operated pretty much a Dozen different real 8H’s over the years 👌🏻😎
Very cool!
Stunning build Chris that Autocar would look great pulling that
Thanks!
Sweet build as always!!!
Glad you like it!
Very nice work Chris. I really like the weathering of the trailer deck. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
Thanks, you too!
Superb Awesome great job you did on that trailer for your bulldozer and keep up your great work as always
Thanks! Will do!
WOW, nice work!
Thank you! Cheers!
Really neat!
Thank you! Cheers!
The Autocar you built would look great hooked to this.
Yeah!
Great looking build. Looks just killer with the Dozer on it...
Thanks!
That was awesome, great job!
Thank you! Cheers!
I've built both these kits years ago and had the trailer hooked up to, I believe, a Kenworth tractor. I kinda wish they'd produce a more modern lowboy. like a Rogers or Talbert drop neck 2, 3, or 4 axle one.
Great build , would ike to see some chains and binders on the Dozier
Nice model like the weathering
I'm glad you like it!
Now all you need is a truck to go with it. I’ll be building the AMT Kenworth W925 to go with the AMT Logging Trailer.
Great build video. It looks really realistic. Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!
Thanks! You too!
Awesome build and details
I'm glad you like it!
Just awesome.... That's it
Thanks Gary!
Great video/build, Chris, enjoyed watching along (as always, Liked and Shared). Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, my friend 😊✌
Thanks, you too!
Love it great job
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice work as always my friend
Thank you! Cheers!
I'm likin' this build Chris! The non-sleeper version of the Freightliner cabover tractor with the single-drive would look dope with this kit. Also, the Mack DM series day cab conventional would also tie this unit together nicely. Just some quick suggestions to mate up with this awesome trailer/ bulldozer kit.
Thanks for watching!
Very Nice work Chris Happy (late) Thanksgiving, the details and weathering are amazing. I may have to get this kit.
Happy holidays!
If I hadn't watched you build it I would have thought that you were hanging out at the drop yard of a construction site. Another awesome build my friend. Happy Thanksgiving!
Wow, thanks!
I love you're video's what I would like too see is the extra huge draglines like big musky the 13,000 ton walking dragline and the cable excavators (please)
Nice job I hauled equipment we hang yellow flags on the outer edge of the blade cloth would work
Thanks a lot! Happy Thanksgiving!
Awesome 👌 and cool 😎 👌 😀 👍 😊.
Thank you! Cheers!
Chris+ you haven't built a tanker trailer yet great build again
Correct, I haven't.
Very cool
Thanks!
@@hpiguy I'm seeing a military trailer
you did good again! the weathering definitely takes time but necessary. wished they would have included another set of flags and oversized load sign to be put of a tractor! by the way, the kit I put together back in the '70's came with white plastic for the lo boy and had a decal for the dozer grille with round "holes"- something about copyright stuff changed it.
I seem to remember reading about somebody taking that grille and drilling holes in it to make it look more real - said he would never do it again, his eyes got sore!
Thanks a lot! Happy Thanksgiving!
Yyuupppers Buddy, Another Masterpiece. Hope You and All Yours Had a Blessed Thanksgiving.
Thanks! You too!
Great build.
Thanks a lot! Happy Thanksgiving!
hpiguys Workshop : you too.
Awesome. I have never seen a bulldozer model before (I'm a newbie to models...)
Welcome aboard!
Don't forget to chain the load down. Haul safely!
I was going to try to get this yesterday
Do it, they sell out fast!
Awesome
Thanks!
I bought the same kit a couple weeks before this video was uploaded
Im doing something different
I took each part of the trailer, measured and rescaled to 1/14 scale
Currently using these measurements and building it using steel welded together to create a big brother for use in my big radio control semi trucks
Larger Rc one will be exactly like the smaller plastic model
Good stuff!
Surprised ! I did not expect the trailor will be blue ! Original choice 👍 Missing a truck for pulling all of this 😉
If I stick something in the video that isn't in the box I get a billion comments "I bought this and no truck was in it!!!!"
So I stick to reviews of what's in the box.
@@hpiguy Yes, for sure, we are never too careful 😉
What a build, a great finish. PS a holiday is coming as been advertised on the TV across the pond I can't remember if you have build the coke cola 40 foot trailer yet if not any chance leading up to Christmas⛄
Thanks!
No plans to build that trailer presently. Thanks!
nice kit, should have hooked it up with one of your tractor builds!
Autocar !! 😊👍🇨🇦
That would be cool!
Boy that’s a killer build from a killer kit. I’m building an R model Mack that would look good with that load on the back but I’m not really anxious to spend that much right now.
Thanks for watching!
It looks great,I built one too and was real fun to make, may I suggest the international paystar concrete truck real fun to wheather.
We'll hope they reissue it!
Your video just make me buy one i got it today
Cool ,enjoy!
Thank you
Need to add some tie down chains laid out on the upper deck, also some guard rails to wrap around the end bits on the blade.
It's an out of box review. Anything I'd add and folks would scream it wasn't in their box when they bought it.
Thanks for watching!
Love to see what you could do with a heavy haul truck to hook up to that. Kenworth Alaskan hauler? Great build as usual!!
See my Autocar build!
Very nice build.maybe amt should reissue the john deere backhoe. It would look amazing on that trailer too
That would be cool!
Awesome build, just needs a few rocks and bits of mud that has dropped off the bulldozer ;-)
Thanks!
would it be possible to add strips of balsa wood for decking in stead of the provided plastic sheets of simulated wood? Great build by the way, love the dirt dozer in contrast to the fairly clean trailer
Of course, redoing it as real wood wouldn't be very hard.
Happy thanksgiving. I am just getting into modeling. What glues should I get.
Anything here will work for you. I personally use Bondene for plastic.
