- Kolkata Sector 5 is the telephone scam capital of the world. Although I've reported lots of scam call centers there, nothing seems to happen. So what could be better than turning up at these call centers armed with (harmless) devices which will get the attention of these scam groups and hopefully the rest of the world.
Thanks to the engineering skills of Mark Rober and the to Trilogy Media who made the trip to India to confront the scammers themselves, we managed to film a set of pranks via the scammers' own CCTV cameras.
Although this is having some fun at the expense of scammers, this is a serious problem. Millions of dollars are lost to these scammers and the police in Kolkata do very little to shut down these call centers, so it would be great if people shared these videos and tweeted @KolkataPolice
Let's hope we can make a "shut down" video before long. In the meantime, enjoy....

Social Engineering at its finest. And I'm here for it. I love to see them freak out.
The fact that Jim can do almost anything with a computer but still decides to use his knowledge to take down scammers and send glitter bombs to people astonishes me.
And all this started because someone messed with his family by trying to scam them and he took the matter in his own hand. He is basically a hero in the modern times when it comes to scammers online and he basically educate us with videos like these. I'm very thankful of what he does.

Glad I don’t have to worry about my 101 year old grandma… one time I called her from a friend’s number.
She answered the unknown number call by blowing an air horn, then yelled “I DONT FALL FOR SCAMS!” And hung up.
I was laughing so hard I couldn’t compose myself to call back from my own number for a while 😂

What you should do is have someone discreetly install loudspeakers above their ceiling tiles so that when a scammer gets scared and asks where you are you can tell the entire call center, "I AM EVERYWHERE."
well they have cameras for other reason than for internet to spy on them, and this might be the one
Stuff like that can ruin Jim's operation unfortunately, he tries his best to mess with scammers without them being suspicious that their operations is being tapped in. He could easily say "i can see you" and if he did they would remove cameras in their offices and start moving people to another office and all that.
That would be so brilliant to see, even just once 😂 😂 😂 a shame it would ruin everything.

The problem is that most indian families don't know much about computers so they believe anything their son/daughter says.ALL SCAMMERS are hated here, they also call us 20-30 times a day . People are so racist in America they think we support them we HATE them my uncle was scammed of his life savings and he kil"ed himself I hate them We hate them and I also started hating the westerns but I understand that not all of them hate us as I have pretty good friends from Canada and USA . I find her body language and facial expressions extremely confusing. One moment, she looks like she's having the laugh of her life, the next she seems to be almost crying in shock. I have no idea how to decode her behavior.

@@dlobelow760 While I perfectly agree with you that these scammers should be severely prosecuted for their crimes and while I usually watch Jim's videos with delight, we also have to bear in mind that people from other parts of the World do not have the same set of standards and morals you and me have in common. Different circumstances and environments produce different people and different cultures. When you've lived in poverty for most of your life, regret and moral integrity are probably the last of your concerns. Being opportunistic however is highly valued, even if it means selling your soul to the devil. While this doesn't excuse their poor life choices, it helps explain why they got to the point they're at and it also helps understand how they can get out of this situation. Unfortunately, it is up to the indian People to sort things out from a societal point of view. But their caste system, corrupted institutions and crazy demographics aren't helping.

The best part about this is that he spent like an hour chatting with a few of the scammers, with more listening in, which means that, for that entire amount of time, they weren't able to scam anyone. Just by stalling and freaking them out, he prevented at least a dozen of those scam callers from doing anything else. Love it

A suggestion for Jim: Priya appears to be convinced that you have psychic abilities! So, in the future, whenever you convince another scammer like Priya, it might be of help to her if you would urge her to quit her job by giving her a warning from the spirit world: tell her that you have a strong clairvoyant sense that she will soon come to a bad end if she continues her career in scamming, and that she must find honest work as soon as possible. In order to do something like this, you have to con yourself into thinking what you're doing isn't that bad (unless you're a psychopath). Either by thinking that the people you're scamming are so rich it doesn't matter or that you're providing a real service.

That happened to me directly with one of those “Road accidents” robo call. I had an absurd yet plausible story prepared and when I came to the number plate he protested because I wasted his time. Precious.

I'm so tired of scammers. I've had several. I'm not well and these calls only make things worse for me. Now they're using a local prefix number and unavailable or fake names. I only answered one of these calls but NO MORE. Thanks for what your doing....📞..👍

Man you calling out their names hit them so hard. The layer of anonymity that these scammers are given likely makes the whole process easier to bear. You stripping that away from them causes such intense panic.

@TheSongwritingCat Tbh I must have seen over a hundred videos from all the people who hunt for scammers on CZcams. Each containing multiple scammers. Not once have I seen anyone imitate other accents well. Not to mention they all sound the same for some reason, as in their voices are so similar. They all have the same screechy, grating quality about them. They also all speak in the specific grammatically incorrect way only indians speak in. Like the phrase "each and everything" which they use all the time.

Priya seemed like a very likeable girl, it's a shame she's doing what she is for a job. I'm certain her parents don't know her real job, like Jim said. I'm sure they would be very ashamed that what they thought was a kind daughter is actually a conniving scam artist ripping off the elderly all day.

Because how can a Government support an entire population of over 1.36 billion people when their Government can't keep up with feeding that many mouths in one country alone.
If children are wanted, that's fine, but producing over 10 to 15 to 20 kids per family over there is way waaaay too much for a Government/parent to handle; yet they keep over producing more than they could financially support.

@SWAT Kats they are using the population and living complexities of India to hide in an apartment or house and setup these systems. Broadband is available everywhere. Number of police personnel is less when compared to other countries and other political and goon problems are so much that for police, putting their effort for finding scammers is tough job. The government has to think of a solution to effectively find these scammers and give them a bit of jail time.
And they are costing you work, as more and more US companies shy away from Indian tech support because of this. Why your government doesn't do something, I don't know. But then again, the US gov't allows millions of scam and spam calls per day.
