      I have had a peugeot 207 for nearly 7 years. Was a neglected example. The only electrical problem it has ever had is an airbag light, which goes out when you wiggle the wires under the seat. I reckon a peugeot 308 is a safer bet than a vw golf which would be a rot box at that age and full of niggling faults.

      @@user-fi5rm9wj2h yes I’m sure most people would agree it’s a step down from a French peasants pice of shit. It’s not an expensive Ford, they just use Ford window switches so that they, what’s the word, work. Which can’t be said for the Peugeot electronics. And yes some of the diesels were made by Peugeot, which is why they’re not very good. Fortunately I have the 3.0 V6 petrol that was originally designed by Porsche, which is why it is extremely good. As a British ex-Pat who has lived virtually all his adult life in Australia I never realised how detailed the M.O.T. was until I started watching your fantastic videos. In Australia we have a rego (registration) check which takes five minutes and seems to consist of checking your lights and indicators work, checking that the tyres aren’t bald and a quick spin to check the performance of the brakes. Literally takes five minutes at most!
    The M.O.T. seems so much better and picks up any potential future problems with the car that buyers can see a record of.

      @person.X. Před rokem +3

      In WA we don't even have that. 😆 Nothing at all. It is only if something is so blatantly wrong with your car that the cops pull you over that it will be condemned as unroadworthy. I got my WA rego car serviced in the Northern Territory while on a road trip once and the mechanic asked me what the hell was up with WA cars as he had had to deal with Western Australians bringing in all sorts of death traps over the years.

      Depends where take a car for MOT. I've got two garages I use, one is a chain garage where they will pick a car apart looking for business, which is handy if I want a car really scrutinised. They find the faults, I fix em. Allegedly, my other garage is allegedly a one man band who would pass a burning Punto with no advisories if you need him to (allegedly). Very handy for getting a shit heap car from A to B to be worked on without a flatbed transport

    I had a 1.6 307 3dr 54 plate with 130k ish in 2020 for around 570 quid, and again did very little maintenance and it was great. Only got rid of it as I’ve had my wife’s Megane off her when she purchased a new car.

    People rage on about how the 07 and early 08 models had shocking reliability, but had the majority of owners actually looked after their damned cars, Peugeot and Citroen wouldn't be the butt of so many jokes (particularly from people who swear by brands with even worse reliability records). As for this specific car, as usual it's not the cost of parts (usually cheap for French cars) but the labour in sorting things out; given it's had a cambelt change, it would be a shame if somebody wasn't to just put those issues right, though as it's a Euro 4 diesel, it'll be hounded out of clean air zones and possibly put to pasture.

    I had a Peugeot 306 TD 3 door, great looking car, nice colour and went round corners beautifully. That was it - everything else was hateful!!! Door seals leaked every time it rained or I washed it, even after getting them replaced. The engine was loud, clattery, smelly, leaky and not that fast. Something fell off it every time I drove it. The stereo was pants.
    I complained to my work colleagues every day about how bad it was and one of them asked if he could buy it off me?! I said YES PLEASE, but warned him how crap it was. He had it 2 months and the engine blew up, shoved a crank shaft threw the engine block on the motorway. I dodged a bullet but bad for my friend but did try to warn them.

    Love these videos. My wife's car is a shed, 56 plate Focus with 100k and battle scars. It has just passed an MoT but with loads of advisories, plus an informal one of "Get rid in the next 6 months while it still has some MoT on it". I'll make sure I get is cleaned, plates replaced and a couple of Mats. 75 quid and it might just get us a better return than scrap value when we chop it (looking at a Mk3 1.6 petrol focus titanium or similar for 5k as she likes them and not much else, and it has about 25% more power than the current 1.6).

    Brings back some memories, years ago I had a lot of 307’s then 308’s as rental cars through work. One 308 I remember, I was the first renter, it had about 20 miles on it when I collected it. I reversed out of the underground garage at work and tore the rubbing strip clean off the door….I tried to fix it back but had broken off most of the clips. It sort of looked ok until you slammed the door too hard, the the whole thing fell off. Dropped it off at the end of the rental out of hours, never heard another thing 😂

    Another great video. These old Peugeots do seem to last. Here in bungalow city, I see quite a few and the bodywork always seems decent. Just by the by I read a short article in the paper the other day. Written by a financial bod it was arguing that a new age of the banger may be upon us as cheap car finance deals disappear with rising interest rates with the other knock on effects such as bigger mortgage repayments similarly depressing demand for new and up market cars. A new golden age for the trade?

    We bought a cheap 3008, it's not brilliant but it does what it's supposed to do, school runs, country lanes, shopping trips and wife's commute, the worst part of it is the oil dip stick, we do fairly regular oil changes and you just can't see the level on the stick, doesn't matter what angle you hold it to the light either, still, I generally leave it to the misses to check whilst I'm cleaning the Jag 😉

    Being Milton Keynes doesn't always signify rental. There are lots of head offices of motor manufacturers and finance compnaies there and they give their staff cars so they have cheap 6 month old vehicles on the road to sell. You will find lots or Mercs and VW Group that have gone through finance, or even the fleet stuff. Not always a bad move to be fair.

    I purchased a car just like on that condition,i would strongly ADVISE after a full proper valet & it's all dry out that you do use/spray with the proper Neutradol Super Fresh Odour Destroyer NOT THE CHEAP STUFF,spray in all the air vents,under the seats,under the boot carpet,in the boot itself & of course inside, Leave for at least 6 hrs & use 1/3 of the can. I repeated this process twice so the horrid smell went completely! Use a air freshener aerosol spray too,it'll get rid of that strong Neutradol that's left behind. The owner will eventually smell that horrid stink in no time & no normal air freshener will get rid of it 😆 I've been cleaning cars for a long time,no Magic tree air freshener is gonna hide the horrid hay bale stench. Worth £750 all day fella. Good video once again 👌

    Leak on injector 3 is prime tell tale sign the turbo is probably going to give way soon, especially due to mileage but I did read injector seals go causing carbon buildup in the oil and makes it’s way to the turbo and blocks the gauze on turbo feed pipe starving the turbo of oil causing premature damage to turbo. Rest of it all seems pretty easy enough work to the right person but paying a garage to do the work would cost a fortune

    Well compared to some of the other tat you've got recently on the channel, this one wasn't that bad. I understand your decision since it would have taken some time to do and a quick sale is preferred. Although I don't like the 308, this one was pretty solid but in need of a suspension overhaul, a set of tyres and some minor bodywork. The engine related bits don't sound too complicated, I've removed the front part of the heatshield without even touching the DPF and if it's loose, probably just missing a bolt or two holding it on so didn't need to be removed and the injector seals aren't too bad to do. But overall as you said, assuming a £600 spend on top of the £500 already in the car would have put at £1100 for a car that could have sold for £1500-1750 I think. Once again, all best and look forward to the next ropey car haha.

    It's a beater. It's the kind of car that'll make a decent runaround for someone who can perhaps do the repairs themselves, chuck on a mirror from a scrappy and just drive it, not worrying about it getting trashed. There's nothing wrong with that, of course - cars like this fill a need for people who just want transport for as little money as possible. I've mostly driven beaters for nearly 40 years! 😁
