    The new Peugeot 308 GTi may not look like the hottest of hot hatches, but it's certainly got a few tricks up its sleeve. It comes in two states of tune - 248bhp or 266bhp - with the latter model also coming with a limited-slip differential and larger brakes. The 308 GTi is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine, and takes aim straight at the VW Golf GTI and Ford Focus ST.

    I know virtually every car reviewer out there seems to think the VW Golf is untouchable but personally... they are so common I am sick of the sight of them, and they are so plain and generic looking, I just can't get excited about such a conservative and uninspired car, even if it will go very fast.
    I'd take the 308 GTi because not only is it quicker and funkier than the Golf but also you will stand out from the crowd by driving one. Not something you can say about any of the VAG cars. There is more to life than the VW Golf people!

      sic22l Are they ? I always thought LED lights were good for recognition in the sense that they make good daytime running lights but they are not good when it comes to long range beam? I know BMW and Audi use these laser beam headlights and they are apparently really good.

    • @sic22l
      @sic22l Před 8 lety +1

      Oliver Newell They're good for DRLs because of low power consumption. In headlights they're difficult to focus because there are multiple light sources (that's why LEDs have pretty short range even in low beam), Peugeot tried it for the first time and failed. In low beam there's just bright blob of light in front of the car and nothing else, you can't see neither far, nor wide. They're one of the worst LEDs on the market. Mercedes does the best LED lights on the market because they have really mature beam profile even in low beam - that's where you're going to use them the most.
      Short range of the high beam isn't exactly a norm, laser lights are just improving it but they're not standalone lights - they're there to help traditional LED high beam reach further.

    I have owned a "normal" 308 (eHdi 115cv Allure) for 2 years and I'm extremely happy with it. Great exterior design, both spacious and sporty, nice interiors with better materials than most of the other makers, nice engine, low consumption, I love the iCockpit and the elimination of all-fashioned buttons all over the console that some pple still miss (welcome to the 21st century!), no mechanical problems after 40k kms... to everyone who hates french cars or thinks they are crappy I'd say: give the 308 a shot.

Some people want the sporty driving experience but may want an automatic. They may live in the city, they may be married with one child, or their spouse may want an automatic. Renault has an automated manual gearbox in their version of this car, the Megane GT. Why does it bother you so much for Peugeot to offer both? Other people have different opinions. Offering both means that they care about all people.

    I personally prefer Peugeots to VolksWagens because VW cars are to typical and bland,actually all Volkswagens are too preserved, Peugeots are much more stylish and much more head turning as well.As for this 308 GTi well it has more power than the Golf GTi and is certainly better looking as well.Yes it may have a couple of down sides but I dont think they are too bad to put you off from buying it and Peugeot has improved a lot in the last couple of years and I believe they overcame many major problems like quality and Reliability issues.

    Anyone know why some 308 gti's are listed as having Puretech engines and others THP. All info suggests the Puretech has 3 cylinders. So why are some (most) Gti's listed as puretech? Thinking of buying a 2nd hand one and nobody seems to know.

    • @knighty6988
      @knighty6988 Před 2 lety +2

      I’d say there listed wrong, The GT Line has the puretech engine 1.2 130BHP for eg. GTI is 250BHP or 270BHP. 2017 onwards is the ‘facelift’ 270BHP & massive Alcon breaks (same as 911 Turbo) I own 270BHP, best car I’ve owned. My breaks & discs are perfect, still had a chat with Peugeot main dealer including labour break pads & discs would cost around £1500. Also the gearbox requires a oil change every 25K which requires a special transmission fluid, for Peugeot to do is £550. Pug also recommend changing the spark plugs every 12 months. MPG is around 35mpg city & 40mpg on motorways/longer journeys. I’ve gone on abit lol but you mentioned of buying a 2nd hand one so thought I’d give you some info. Good luck. 👍🏻👊🏼

    I have a 308 gt spec 2017 model auto and its a great little car 1.6 diesel only 120 bhp but zips about quick as you like and has no problem keeping up on motorways, it costs peanuts to run is zero road tax and cheap to insure ,is well made with a huge boot for a small car. It looks great to. Only complaint is the clunky infotainment system it really is laggy non intuitive and needs a complete redesign other than that I'd buy another in a heartbeat...in fact looking at maybe trading up to the GTI model which brought me here in the first place ..Go Pug love em ...sick to death of the German brands and their prices and arrogance ... !

  • @theodorev666

    You gotta love the idea of a hot hatch and I'm loving this car, but in real life they are such a burden. The following does not apply to all hot hatches, but most of the issues apply to most of the cars.
    - High fuel consumption,
    - Expensive maintenance and parts,
    - Expensive tires,
    - Expensive road tax and insurance,
    - Noisy engines/exhausts on long journeys,
    - and of course a hard ride...
    If you've driven one, you've driven them all. They are great to start with but after a while all the above become really annoying...

    • @feezee82
      @feezee82 Před 7 měsíci

      I can't speak for all hot hatches, but at least on a 308 GTI the fuel consumption is not much higher than a 120 bhp 1.6 engine 308. As for higher cost of ownership - absolutely, but they are sports cars, so what do you expect? Still cheaper than owning a BMW or an Audi. But if I have to choose between a base model 1-series and a 270 bhp Peugeot 308, I know what I'm getting.
