  • Meet the new 2019 Peugeot 308 GTI. A fresh face and updated interior, but the same engine, brakes, gearbox and suspension. This is still the best car Peugeot makes.

    Another superb review although Peugeot's not really my sort of motor. This guy is great - objective, techo-wise and a natural presenter. You feel you're in the car having a chat with him! Keep it up!

    So this is why you came back to Wales.... Nothing wrong with the rain, it’s still beautiful whatever the weather. Plus love the reviews of cars I can actually afford.........

      Had to take the 308 somewhere interesting! The roads were still brilliant and the rain/fog over the treetops was really beautiful. Lovely part of the world!

      NewMotoring to be truthful I much prefer a good little hot hatch.... it’s all I’ve ever owned in my 30 years of driving. From the Fiesta XR2 all the way up to the Fiesta ST that’s going this year..... ain’t sure for what yet.... 🤔

    • @newmotoring

      So true, and some are really quiet roads, too. We came from Reading! A simple journey, but, honestly, the weather was SO bad.

    • @newmotoring
      @newmotoring  Před 6 lety

      Hot hatches are brilliant. XR2 sounds fun! What's been your favourite? Shame about the ST. (We just did a video about that if you haven't seen it already - not in Wales, sadly!) I've always had a soft spot for the old Golf R32 but, then again, they are old! What about the 308? Or a Type R?

    What an underrated achievement from Peugeot. People talking all the time about the i30N but this older car has the same power and much less weight. Only problem with the Peug is the noise and the tech (everything in the i30 can be configured from the central screen: engine, suspension, etc) I believe however this "old model" can still beat the crap out of the i30N in the track

    Great test! I fully agree with you, that the car, I happily own facelift 2018, is gorgeuos.I used to have another hothatches including Clio Sport F1, but 308 is just great! The way it handles daily driving with performance is a just magic. Love it!

    Fantastic cars, I wanted a 308 GTI but it was out of my price range so went instead for a 208 GTI. Even my car struggles to put its power down without the LSD so I can imagine what the old 308 GTI 250 was like. Great review thanks.

    This guy is brilliant ... Not bias as other are and speaks the way it is. The Peugeot 308 GTi 2019 is absolutely brilliant, although can't wait to see the all new Peugeot 308 GTi 2020 model which I believe is available around mid 2020 mark.

  • @chrissydenham6668
    @chrissydenham6668 Před 6 lety +5

    Bang for buck the Peugeot seems good value.
    But I still think most people would rather have a golf gti performance or golf R sitting on the driveway.
    That's a shame as the car obviously has the talent but maybe not the kudos of the VW. Therein lies the problem.
    Appreciate the hard work more of the same please. Cheers.

      You could be right, as they're both very, very good, but I just really love the subtlety of the 308. And thank you, I'm glad you're enjoying them. It was particularly hard work in all that rain! 😂 Seán

    If you can afford to run one of these then they are rapid but as a previous owner of one of these I would recommend that anybody looking to buy one should check the cost of replacing those huge brakes as I do think you would be alarmed. Also check out as much information as you can on the gearbox in the owners forums.Little things I had problems with were the infotainment quite often went wrong, keyless entry seemed to have a mind of its own sometimes and a quiet knocking sort of noise when turning near towards full lock.

    • @newmotoring
      @newmotoring  Před 5 lety

      I can imagine the brakes might be a little costly... The noise from the tyres was most likely the tread scrubbing across the ground, though!

    • @davidp1303
      @davidp1303 Před 5 lety

      No, definitely something else. Had the car for a year and it just started happening one day and still there after changing tyres. Its not a scrubbing sound its more of a very dim knocking.

    • @tonyb1223
      @tonyb1223 Před 5 lety +1

      The knocking near or on full lock is the LSD doing its job, the only issue you hear about the gearbox is the long throw, it really isnt as bad as people make out, and yes the brake discs as £1200 for a set but these are a 2 piece performance disc and last about 50k miles, pads are £400 and again will last unless you track the car a lot.

    Like the looks. Like the seats. Like the performance. Only thing that puts me off this car is that "all in one" infotainment system 🤔.

      Well that’s less than ideal. But there must be some Peugeot specialists who know how to sort those issues? In the grand scheme of things, at least it’s not “the engines explode”, for example. Brakes can be sorted I’m sure.
