That car is so underrated like the RCZ..
I have the 208 GTI By Peugeot Sport and it's a great little car . Peugeot are making some great cars again.
It's like Top Gear said : when they deide to make shitty cars they succeed with galacticly disastrous cars, and when they decide to make great ones they also succeed
I sold my 208 gti Peugeot Sport it gave me issues and peugeot didn't want to fix it and I bought it brand new. I now have a 2019 Fk8 Type R and I'm so happy cant beat it for bang for buck.
I had a rumbling sound coming from the LSD when on full lock, that was last summer .Car went in twice they confirmed it was the LSD I'm still waiting for them to call to fix it . I called every other week got peugeot main office involved even got a external company to put pressure but nothing . Really disgusting service. I'm sure it was a simple fix but it shows your so called warranty is worthy nothing . I bought 3 brand new cars from the dealership and haven't had a service call for them which is strange as I still have the 3008.
@@TakeChargeLifeCoaching what country are you from? Maybe it's just your country's peugeot service is suck, but in my country the 208 GTi I owned is about 6 years now from 2013 & I had no issues with the service plus my car never had any problem at all, just send your car to the service center whenever it needs to
Nice video Shmee, thank you for bringing us this kind of cars, I really enjoy it and I love Peugeot
It's an absolutely phenomenal car. Thank you for making this video, people have too much stigma on Peugeots.
It's not a stigma, they have topped the list of most unreliable autos for the last two-decades. They also lose heavily on depreciation. 30k for this is a joke as less than £1,500 - £2,000 gets you in Golf R and Cupra territory, both of which provide better driving dynamics, interior, and all around value.
Martin Crutchley The only thing I partly agree on is depreciation. Newer Peugeots, yes. However, The old Peugeot 205 GTI is the same price an an old Golf GTI if not more. The 306 GTI-6/ Rallye is £3k upwards now. As I say newer Peugeots are awful in depreciation but not all.
Damien Guy No-one in their right mind would choose a FWD over a 4WD like the 308 with less power, less grip and none of the premium spec. The new Hyundai beats this on price also.
Peugeots and Citroens have massively improved on reliability since 2010. Check WarrantyDirect's reliability index. They're doing better than ALL VW Group companies.
that's not really true even at their worst they have never topped the unreliability list bad yes particularly the auto 307 prefacelifted 01-05 but not the worst
i love it and the two tone finish blue and black or red and black can make it stand out more...great video Shmee, hope it's not the last Peugeot you review!! the 208 Gti by Peugeot Sport is up there with the best in it's segment...they definetly deserve more attention
Super Happy that you will make more videos of cars in our budget bracket! Tks!
Great car. Had it for 2 days on promotion and omg i had fun...eating people for breakfest just because you dont expect to be overtaken by Peugeot😂😂😂
Brakes are class leading
Mechanical diff just works like a dream
It sticks to the road like fly to shit
Massive boot
The front seats are just the most comfy like a chair really
Full HID lights means absolute vision and on full beam its like rally car style👍
Up to 47mpg average...well more like 37 but still very good
BUTs....
On uk very shit surface roads it does get a bit too noisey at times 19s inch alloys!!!
The info system restarted 3 times in 2 days!!!
The fake engine roar on sport mode its just no..just no BUT its only 1.6 and it makes it sounds like 2 litre and bigger...
THATS IT...only if i have 28k for car this 308gti would be on the list for sure...just for the pure shocked faces of the other drivers when you just leave them in your dust....
Ps: the brakes are REALLY in the class of its own...i did emergency braking test and my eyes where dancing on the dash😂😂😂
Gives you the all important safe feel when driving💪
After seeing this go through our docks being prepped for a press day I'm happy to see it being used properly!!!!
Had a lot of fun test driving this car once. Put a smile on my face.
Great video. And lovely to see you and Mr JWW looking at hot hatches sign up for the tour he is wanting to put together with you in the fiesta ST
I love your supercar videos but I'm really glad your also making videos for more affordable cars for us regular folk. Great job!
I think this is the first Pegeout that I really appreciate. Actually, If I were more convinced, I'd buy one. As you mentioned before you can get the feeling for how the car behaves in twisty roads although It's front-wheel-drive. My only complaint ,really, is that they could have fitted it with a proper 4WD but I hope that in the fullness of the time we'd be able to buy one!! besides everything, your videos are a joy to behold keep it up for more contents as possible!!
Love to see a Peugeot on the channel, my grandad has a 308 gt line 1.2 turbo tip-trounced which puts out 150bhp and it's a really good car
It's nice to see you reviewing more "Normal" cars. Not being able to afford a super car myself, this is more relate able and informative too. I am also a fan of the new Peugeot GTI line ups. Keep it up :)
we had a 205 gti long ago, that car was a lot of fun to, great video Shmee
These cars are so brilliant. Totally underrated and a great second hand purchase. Think they’ll certainly become a collectors item due to their rarity, handling, lightness, manual lsd and manual gearbox.
How nice it is to finally see a Peugeot on your channel! Hope you'll feature more of them in the future! I've been thinking of buying one of these for some time now so it's interesting to see what you think of them. I own a Peugeot RCZ at the moment, which is also a great car!
Pleased you enjoy it! Peugeot is a huge brand with a long history and some special cars for sure.
Amazing video ty & nice to see you around near my neck of the woods!
Awesome reviews you doing mate good thing to see you do more public open cars nice !
The best car Peugeot have done, since the legendary 205 GTI.
Absolute love these reviews Tim! 👍🏼
This is good vlog. Not every one have 200000 euro for a car. More different prizeranges sportscar please. I want feel speed but dont have millions. Well done
Great vid. Will be my next one in a few months
The more I see it the more I like it. Really like the simplicity of it.
I have had a few 205 GTIs and currently own a 1989 1.6 205 GTI (wich is the best one to own btw due to the interior design of that year, the better looking smaller Speedline wheels and the XU5JA engine), and I think this 308 GTI comes closest to that old one. The original is super sensitive, fast when you drive alone but slower with even one passenger due to added weight, super small steering wheel, unassisted of course, no electric windows or electric nothing, no A/C, no seat warmers, no nothing. There is nothing to do but drive, and that's what makes it so great. Exterior vice there is just a small spoiler on top of the hatch and small wheel arch extensions, and of course the GTI logo in the back. Nothing crazy, just driving joy.
I think they tried to catch that feeling of just having fun in a small fun hatchback with this one.
Scratch i guess some could argur that, I just think the little increase in horsepower doesn't really matter in a car like that, I like the gear-ratio in the 1.6-versions more and rhe smaller engine revs better. That's why I say the 1989 1.6 is the best, because it has the XU5JA-engine, 1.6 block with 1.9 cylinder heads, so it gets the best of both worlds, better and more fun revving with s little extra HP.
At least in here a lot of rally guys in the 80's and the 90's paired the 1.9 engine with the 1.6 gearbox, tho.
Thanks Tim. Value for money. Great car , and review!
Looks like you've been in touch with Mr JWW ;) very cool to see reviews of hot hatches beside the supercar stuff.
Before i watch the answer is yes. Peugeot are the creators of the hot hatch in my opinion with the 205 gti and the brilliant 306 gti 6. Never mind your vw golf gti.
Have to say, it’s a good looking car!!
Absolutely love the "Attainable Cars" videos. Keep it up Tim :)
the noise of the car is amaizing!!
I have today next to one of these. The salesman was telling me that it is a car that in some years from now could gain some value as the 1.6 petrol engine will soon get out of production due to EU emission law and a 1.5 engine will replace this one. And because it is about to hapen, Peugeot will not build many of them. Here in Portugal it cost 40 thousand something euros. It had just arrived and they did not have the price yet. It is a car to compete with the Hyundai i30 N and others of course. I personally would go for the i30.
This guy has massive front disc brakes. They are huge. You can tell it is a very well put together car. It is worth the money.
Ive got one and before it I had various Q cars from audi Q7 -Q5- Q3 -A5 -A6 etc but this little Pug GTI is the best fun Ive had in years in a car it really is that good great value for performance everyday useability decent boot ...it's definately under the radar of a lot of buyers but I urge you to try one and consider it for your next purchase its that good .Be different don't buy German ! .
It looks really good and sounds like a great drive.
Nice to see Some 'affordable' cars on the channel 👍🏻
Great car, very fast and fun to drive and play with it! I like that it's not as terrible as Honda Civic with all these "wings" all around 🤣🤣
The more I watch and read about them, the more I like them. So I’m off to test one myself on Tuesday.
Love that you bring more affordable cars content :). Try the new Seat Leon Cupra if you can. Also, the Focus ST250 is brilliant for the money. Keep up the good work!
Hi tim im glad your reviewing regular cars good move tim👍
I'm living just next Peugeot Factory at Poissy in France, and I see so much of these beauties
Tristan Florance je ne pas francais, je suis Belge flamand et mon francais est terrible . I want to learn it though , since half my country speaks french. 😅
Even though it might look like it is just a sleeper, if you get the car in the 'coupe franche' paint with the red and the black it will look a lot more like a Great hot hatch
Had one almost a year, perfect balance of performance, comfort and effecientcy. Much quicker than a Golf, best power weight ratio in its class, honestly this car is amazing, much much better than you can ever expect it to be. Just try one!
Paul Hawkins yes its very under stated and the engine is a peach 😁 and very efficient.
Agreed. I also own one of these for approximately one year. It is fun to drive, and comfortable enough to be a daily driven car.
Since driving my wife's 2008 I've been pleasantly surprised with the drive and overall just general comfort being in it and using it. I can imagine what a sporty Peugeot would be like and can believe it would be very fun.
Love the way you Say cheers.
Love it
I love the 308 GTI, a more screamy outside look? Get the 2 tone black and red😜.
I got a new 208 allure myself, and driven the 308, and I think te feel is more comfortable then sporty in all peugeots.
One of the French car for fun driving!!!
I prefer the magnetic blue color
It's so beautiful ... & what a power plant
Looks like an awesome car, especially the interior, functions and double tailpipes! Only downside for me is the dashboard and antenna, which isn't a big deal.
So same price as an i30n with performance pack and a 2.0L Engine and a longer warranty and a better exhaust tone,so has the 308 GTI got the same engine as the older RCZ R?
Hey Tim. Have you ever tested the 208GTI 30th edition? Imo that's a great car, fairly 'special' too, but for the price it's got great power and handling! Would love to see you check out one of those, especially now you're talking about the "realistic price class" categorie!
I bet he would enjoy it more then this I love my normal 208 gti but would love a go in a 30th or bps version apparently they're a right blast!
Sorry but doesn't hold a candle to a fiesta ST, it's plain and simple, the fiesta chassis is superior in every way. I had the ST previously and now a 208 Gti BPS and I can't wait to be rid of it. It's a solid, well made car with plenty of power and grip (too much grip actually on the Michelin tyres) but man it's just dead to drive and no fun, for a car of this nature there is zero engine noise and I mean zero . Complete opposite of the ST which sounds great all through the rev range and fills you with excitement.
The inside however is superior to the current and outgoing ST in terms of quality and I love the small steering wheel ( which is the only thing I will miss on this car) its actually a very nice space to be in but how it makes me feel behind the wheel...meh . Ford have nothing to worry about in terms of competition at this price range particularly with the new ST coming out soon, which is completely overhauled inside and out and I'd seriously go for that when it's out ( from drive the deal.com as you get thousands off them which offsets their depreciation which is pretty bad with ford generally) or the current one, not a gti BPS .
Plus in the gti the automatic wipers reset every time you start the car which is really annoying as you can't just set and forget plus the auto headlights are a major annoyance as the light sensor is way too sensitive. If so much as a cloud passes over the lights come on. I'm actually quite disappointed with it after 9 months with it. I can't describe how much more of a drivers car the ST is and how much more connected to the road and car you feel in one of them over the 208
I don't personally know what the 308 in this video is like, it could be totally different but if you use the 208 as a frame of reference and extrapolate out then I think you'd have to be bonkers to spend 30k on one when you could have and RS or Golf R. As usual a great video from Shmee, I'd much rather watch his content than what the BBC gives us. There's actually useful information to be had
Daniel Phillips I agree with you the fiesta is the better drivers car with the better chassis but I think the two cars are for totally different audiences. Yeah the engine noise/exhaust noise in the normal 208 is pretty non existent but I'm sure the bps version has some exterior exhaust sound with a slightly different exhaust set up and don't forget the fiesta has the sound sent into the cabin through the speakers to help it along which the 208 does not that's probably the major difference you notice and yes the wipers and lights are super annoying don't get me wrong I've already noticed that. Why don't you try a tmsr2 induction kit to try help with the sound you're missing out on? Apparently it also adds 30nm and 10bhp from 3000 revs or so I'm very tempted to order one for my gti because I'm getting sick of the no noise myself and it's only been 4 weeks 😆
The 208gti 30th might not be the best in it's class, but I'd still be interested to see someone like Tim (with more experience than us) have a go in it and compare it to others.
Furthermore it's a matter of taste. I don't own a 30th, nor am I a big fan, but I do like the car. It's got plenty of umpf, and for the price it's nice. Like I said, it's a lot more special than an ST imo. Both nice cars nevertheless.
Looking forward to your test of the new Hyundai i30 N.
I haven't driven one yet as I missed out on the press launch, but I'm sure I will at some point
Real world. Thanks, mate.
The 308 is a rocket. What a pleasure to drive. Just sit behind the wheel, and see for yourself 😉
next video: Why i sold my Focus RS....
following video: Why i bought a 308 GTi!
Shmee150 what colour? I’m guessing you will be announcing that in a video soon.
Shane Earley: Obviously going to be Blue, this is Shmee we are talking about here :P Tim likes his Blue cars
I love this car!!!!
I never really liked hot hatches until my friend got the new Clio RS as a present and i love driving in it
Tim you should review a 208 GTI BPS, theyre just as fun and so easy to throw into corners
Would you consider this as a daily driver over Focus RS ??
I have 308 GT Line petrol 2017 by 3 years, absolutley amazing car.
Great review
it's a very good looking hatch fitting well in the line of new hatch backs in term of looks and Appeal
Good video Tim! Only so many videos of a Lambo exhaust or the interior of a McLaren you can watch before it gets a little boring. More videos of obtainable cars please! Not every video... but a few more sprinkled in amongst the regular content :)
I’m not sure the white does it any favours.. would like to see it in red or black.. plenty of HP out of a 1.6 litre .. not sure how good it would be in the wet!
308 GTI is the finest hot hatch today.
And only one with forged pistons so while other hothatches need to be driven first few thousand miles very easy this Peugeot here is very special with that 1.6 liter turbo engine so you can drive it like a maniac straight from the Peugeot dealer.
@@overtaxed3628 Funny, because the 1.6 ecoboost in the Fiesta ST isn't forged from factory and can handle 350bhp+ for a lot cheaper!!
That looks nice. Wish we had these in the States!
It’s a nice car to drive as I used to test drive cars on a daily basis for a year working for gefco in Corby my only problem with it on a personal level is the 30k price bracket Id say it’s more the 20 mark
More of these videos please my shmee. Can you do a comparison between hot hatches? Maybe throw in a Leon Cupra
It looks sick
i though blue is the best, but now white also appeals to me, understated!
Tim try the seat leon cupra when you can..... Thanks and keep up the good work
more like these please! Regards.
It’s about time u done a few up to date hot hatches, must ask were is the cupra Leon?
Not a 308 but I have 208 gti 30th anniversary and I think u will like the reg. 😉
I had an all red 208 Gti 30th Edition byPS and loved it. However, sold it for a black 308 Gti byPS and it’s truly epic. Does everything so so well and is still engaging to drive.
Having owned a Focus ST 2016 stage 1 and 2017 Focus RS stage 1 375bhp. This 308 GTi beats both hands down in fun and performance due to it weighing just 1205 kg. Mind you mines now In the body repair due to hitting a dead Stag, but can't wait to get her back
Great aren’t they, possibly the most underrated hot hatch ever produced
HI TIM, do you have an opinion on the so-called "hot hatch" Hyundai Veloster. It's a turbo I-4 with just over 200HP...It's very stylish..do you consider it a "hot hatch" in an entry-level sort of way? (Mike in Ohio)
I always didn't really like Peugeot.... Now I do!!
I've only ever owned 1 Peugeot, the 106 Gti. I had it for 9 years, such a great car but costly to keep running.
Shmee what about the seats? I read that they could be too narrow for guys with big shoulders...
Love the lower end brands throwing out hot hatches
Peugeot is a superb manufacturer. Good attitude as a company toward making ever-improving, practical and feature-packed cars. And the most user-friendly interiors. Not even luxury German manufacturers are considerate enough to give the driver an ADJUSTABLE arm rest. Like all drivers are the same height.
DaveKarl stopped reading and started laughing at ‘Peugeot is a s superb manufacturer’
Panoramic sunroofs. Ergonomic seats. Heads up displays. Individually adjustable passenger seats. Auto-folding wing mirrors. Arm-rests! They were giving these features as standard way before anyone else was. Whilst Vauxhall and Ford still don't! Just look at how feature packed the latest models are like 5008 at such low prices. Things you don't even get on $50k+ luxury cars.
DaveKarl yes. Yes you do get these items in luxury cars over £50k. From my experience providing these ‘luxury’ items doesn’t mean they will still work after 20k miles , and on a pug they probably won’t
@@dj331 Peugeot hater spotted 😒🖕🤬. Have you actually owned one and speak from experience or are you pulling that statement out of your arse?
Seriously considering picking up one of these second hand. Does anyone have a rough price per mile to run for the year, including maintenance etc (not just based on fuel consumption). They look amazing. Great review!
Looks like quite a nice little car.
Good video - but with the normal stuff you need to give your opinion on how they compare to other cars - ie. the lesser powered Golf GTI, or greater powered BMW M135/140i. ??!!
When will you get your 675lt spider and your old Lt together to do some photos
You should consider one of these!
Nice car, I wish we could have it here in North America.
Got one, this car is awesome ;)
but hown clearly you never have driven a rwd hothatch, fwd is such a no go imo, also the materials used cant be compared to the germans let alone the overal finish and than I am not even talking about the ridiculous dash and steeringwheels wich doesnt make is possible to read the dash properly.
I want one lol, i adore Peugeots
Same mate, I have a 406 coupé V6, excellent machine and damn it's pretty !
I think it looks amazing but black would be a better colour IMO
It's an awesome looking car. Classy.
Tim.... This or fiesta ST with the MT230 kit you reviewed some while back?? Slightly different class but still interested in your view, i own an ST and a 500hp sub 1350kg Toy for the weekends ... The hot hatch is my DD, my household wont be without a hot hatch, they are imo the best , most complete all rounders, the Fiesta ST is a benchmark for the smaller cars, I'm looking at moving up a class, and now the new i30N has just been released , the megan's Rs is about to be released with RWS, I'm really not sure.. or do i keep my little ST and do the MT kit and save a small fortune. My fiesta ST just feels so right, everything the requires FEEL, the pedals, the steering, the gear shift just feel so right for such a cheap vehicle. The reviews on the 308GTI are very good and i hear the engine although only a 1,6 is of a truly nice construction, fully forged done properly.
I found the final drive too short, the gearbox is very clunky and it sounds like a smart car in sport mode. It's a lovely drive and well built, looks wise it's very very seat Leon. 30k isn't bad for the equipment you get
Oh Nooo. Sorry. Just saw you on the A5 in Germany ( 02.10.’17 @ about 12:20ish) between Darmstadt and heidelberg in your 675lt . Suppose I was in your way ( black merc mini van ) and didn’t notice you in time. Shame on mee ?!
Ru on your way to Stuttgart ( Zuffenhausen by any chance? 😜)
Cheers
Andreas
What a surprise , after lot of luxury cars coming Peugeot?!
Woow
Why do you seem so surprised? Just because its a Peugeot? Like you said, Peugeot have been doing Gti cars for years! The only reason cars like this and the Hyundai i30 N struggle even at £28k is that they'll be worth less than half that after 3 years which is a shame.
The 308 GTI is Peugeot's entry to the hot hatch battle, it's quick with 270PS and wrapped up in a fairly discrete package albeit with added sporty red touches, upgraded brakes and new wheels. How does the entry from Peugeot Sport compete though in an already very busy market for small and fun hatchbacks?
could you review a car that cost aorund 20k??
Shmee150 try the Octavia VRS 245
Shmee150 I used to hate these cars
Shmee150 very plane
Shmee150 I
