Loved all your vids pal thanks so much as a new pass I've found them not only interesting and funny but very informative too, start my first driving job tomorrow and your videos have definitely taught me things that will help, kerp up the good work pal
Great video pal, sometimes it’s not what u know it’s who u know !! That’s how I landed my first job, my dad having a word then the rest us down to you 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Another great and candid vlog about the industry and the best way for new passes to get their foot in the door. Got my theories all done and just waiting for the driving centres to reopen in Scotlandshire thanks to this "Combat 19" stuff so I can crack on with my practical tests. Looks like WS is treating you well. :-)
Thanks for making this vlog Deady and I hope you and the Mrs and kids are all keeping well buddy until next time take care of yourself and stay safe and well all of you bud
This video has answered so many questions that I had built up in my head. I was worried about all the steps after the tests etc like securing a job but this video has simplified everything and I am no longer worrying as much as I was. Tomorrow I have my medical exam to get my provisional entitlement so I'll be able to start my practical training hopefully within the next couple of months. Stay safe :)
Nice one Gareth,an honest and straightforward approach to the question,I totally agree with your route through the whole thing, yes others will not agree, but that is why each person must make there own choices.Hope you and the family are well, good to see you enjoying the life you haave chosen, well done mate.Stay safe and keep on truckin'.#thumbsup
Just found your channel today mate I’m impressed what I see so far can’t wait to see more
Thank you for this video. I had my HGV medical in October and my licence online updated with my provisional entitlements on Friday! So excited, waiting for my Licence photocard to arrive back in the post and start training!
Good luck mate 😊😊
Another great and interesting Vlog from the great man Deady, keep them coming mate👍👍👍
Great video mate I've been in the struggle of finding work and luckily my company upgraded me to class 2 and got me a new Merc 18tonne to drive still doing class 1 but for personal gain not so much for job atm. Keep safe buddy
Great video mate , have a great weekend with the family and take care stay safe and drive carefully 👍👍👍
I passed my class 2 middle of July and have my class 1 booked for end of august, i sent out a few cv's to company's and got two interviews next week, the others haven't got any work but said they will keep my cv on file, and been really positive about it,
only had 1 rejection so far, Great vids buddy i'v been watching from the start, keep it up and you never know i might see you out on the road soon!
Ring around your local agencies, some of them will except newly passed drivers.
Well done. Hope all goes well for you

Hey m8, I’m happy to say I got 97/100 today for the LGV theory. That’s me another step in the right direction 👌 good advice here in your vlog m8 always a pleasure to watch 👍
I am 37 in this industry.retired now.good to see new blood proud doing what we do ..good job young man!!
Hi Deady, very good and helpful video, I am waiting to have my eyes tested then book the HGV medical, I will be an older learner but with the little bit of experience navigating an agency driver around to collect and tip skips that I did before having a family I really want to give it another shot! I am restricted by working hours due to the kids and being on my own. I keep seeing skip lorries and I think they are calling me back😂 stay safe and see you on the next one 😊
Who you know helps Deady! Always has and always will
yep having a relative in the game (his dad) always helps
I have no interest in Hgv driving at all but I absolutely love your channel and all your content. Can definitely see that you have a huge passion for the industry hope you enjoy it mate. I’m in the process of becoming a Trainee Train driver got my exams in a few weeks. I have a huge passion for the rail industry it’s just a dream just like yours is for hgv. You’ve inspired me so much to go chase my dreams🙌🏽 #teamdeady #topguy
Nice video. Very informative. I didn't even know of those companies you applied for. I was just curious about the driving job on the other side of the pond. :)
Cheers for making a video on this mate
No need to respond, good to see you looking all smart and grown up! Good advice Deady. Oh that bit at the end, with a bit more editing it could have been the erm erm song as you almost had a tune going there. All the best.
Absolutely brilliant.. straight forward no bullshit.

Great video deady I won't to do my class one but I am happy with my job I do on my class two so I put class one on hold
Got my class 2 license, driving dustcarts atm, absolutely love it, the most chilled job iv ever had, I'm only 21 and only had my hgv license for 4 months so it was a touch getting that job.
Appreciate the words on Agencies mate. I'm currently working for an Agency now whilst I save for my licenses doing factory work etc and I always hear a lot of bad feedback on how they work, kinda brings you down without you knowing why. But it's how you say, they give the work to those who want it and are consistently putting in the effort. Only something small but it's helped clear the negative aura I guess you could call it, and it will get me to where I want to be. Appreciate your videos
Thank you matey, great advice
big greetings from norfolk your doing brill your should be very proud for what you have achieved well done
Passed my Class 2 last thursday, Buzzing! Just got my mod 4 to do in less than 3 weeks. Hoping to get in at a company my friend works at and start driving a skip wagon or tipper. Can't wait!
Good luck👍
great advice, thanks
my driving test is in 4 days from now
Great advise thanks mate in the middle of doing my class 2 passed my mod 4 today and driving test on the 19th can't wait to pass
Was that the case studies? Do you have any advice on those, I’ve got mine in a couple of weeks. So nervous!
@@willdunford9806 no mate mod for is the checking your vehicle over emergencie risk assement and securing your load took me all of 12 mins to do the mod 4. The case studies I done at the same time as my theory and hazard perception. Any advise I would give is to keep calm don't rush and just keep going over the drivers hours vehicle weights etc. Deady 2012 has got a video about the case studies if you go back through his vlogs and you'll find it. I whatched it and found it very helpful.
Stefan Clarke thanks for the advice mate! Some ppl say that case studies are easier than the theory multi choice? is that true? I guess it all depends on different ppl
All depends on the person mate like you say. I found them about the same if not a little bit more easier as they give you a case to read then a few question just read the case and you can't really go wrong
Great Vlog Deedy like I said before I work for a agency my choice the money is good I drive brand new trucks some days and some crap other days it's just the way it is. Your spot on its not for everybody cheers keep safe mate.😎
im thinking of doing my class 1 and driving tankers. Have you driven them before?
Hi mate, passed my theory test and hazard perception last week and passed my CPC today. Getting my practical lessons booked ASAP! Massive shout out to you and how you show whats its like to be HGV. Big thanks pal
Nice one mate! Good luck with your training buddy!
@@Deady2012 thanks mate. Appreciate all your help!

Been doing general haulage, multi drop and every other kinda job on 7.5t for 30yr now decided to move up to class 2 last year and going onto class 1 in October n can't get any kind of decent work even had one interview where I was told 48 was too old. Pretty soul destroying but the dream is still very much alive and I will be class 1 tramping in the near future.
Keep up the good work Deady
#livingthedream
Shit I've had class 1 since 1989, worked in paper mill 27 yrs, made redundant 2008, started driving again for 6 months then got factory job, thinking going back driving but I'm 55, you're too old 48, may need rethink...
So far I am at provisional back, have my tacho card just need to wait to do my theory tests, which need to wait for just over a month then get training booked in, and have my cpc mod 2 booked in just over 2 months.
Job wise have started looking around, and chatting to drivers and a couple local companies that are always on the look out because they don't pay "enough" so i think thats a good thing to look out for me I think, better to get in full time and get that experience in and be willing to crack on with anything, better to be know as the newbie that will give anything a go, driving anything than be a picky so & so. Once you get your foot in the door you are sorted
Another excellent video cheers buddy
I did my class 2 and 1 all in one go at the end of last year. Even after doing 5 years of bus driving I still struggled to find a company to take me on coz of lack of experience but you have to stick at it I applied for job after job with no joy then a carpet company took me on doing class 2 delivering carpets to shops on the Scottish Borders wich was hard work but I loved it and then after doing that for 4 months I got offered a job for fowler welch class 1 trunking wich I start this week. You just have to keep at it eventually someone will give you chance
Good going Craig and good luck mate. Hope it all works out for you👍
Hello mate,in one of your other videos you was showing how the air conditioning works while the lorry is not running! How does that work mate? Where’s it drawing the power from? Thanks.
Fair play, I'm happy tramping in my class 2, but the company I am now working for will put me through my class 1 next year. Only advice I would add for new drivers is that there are still a lot of companies driving trucks with manual boxes, range changers and splinters, and they would of most likely done their training in automatic......
I also started off with agencies, and since getting my class 2 have not been short of work and I'm based in the south west......
Nice seeing u in blackpool and yes I was lost lol keep it up mate
My class two trading starts on the 17th of August. I passed the theory tests including the CPC case studies. Did all three in about an hour and a half. Monday to Friday will be my driver training in the afternoons with Red Rose. Then Thursday morning I will do the part 4 CPC. Then friday is the test. Ahhhhhhh. No pressure lol. Thanks for all the advice. That guy from Japan.
Good vlogg I was lucky and my company put my through my class 2 , I love my job and yes living the biffa dream, keep smiling, have a great weekend 👍

I stopped driving for a month and a half work was that dead even agencies in the next couple of weeks gonna be back in the truck can't wait!!
Great vid mate passed my class 2 yesterday (Friday) I was lucky to get mine paid for by the company I work for and they have offered to pay for my class 1 which would put me on general deliveries as class 2 is multi drop kerb side deliveries. Keep up the great vids mate find your advice useful
You’ve been dead lucky mate in your position. Grab it with both hands and go for it👍
Hi Gareth,
Are agency work instant? Like if I rang up an agency and said I just got my C2 and C1 license and looking for immediate start, will they normally call back or tell you when to come in and start?
Now I've got experience in fast food delivery so technically as some drivers have told me is counted as Multi-Drop Experience but not sure if it is.
I also work in a Retail environment so do Agencies understand that I have to give notice and complete my last shifts there before starting or will they skip to the next person and come back when I've left?
Thanks.
Nathan
The coop refrigerator drivers self tip as well. I'm looking to do class 1 fairly soon I've had about 14 months full time on class 2 so had a good bit of experience dont know if that will help getting class 1 work🤞.
I'm 17 and thinking of doing a class 2 license when I turn 18. Is it true it's more difficult to get a job if your a younger driver?
Brilliant video, keep them coming 🙂
Love the last bit😂😂 “ummmm”
ive done it the same way as you have deady, ive been doing class 2 work since November last year, I wanna build up my experience. I started in a 7.5 tonne lorry and have recently just moved to a 10 tonne. I do eventually want to move into Class 1 (i do have the licence already) but that will be all in good time. I got lucky and landed a permanent job without going through agencies.
Thanks buddy, really helpful vlog, straight forward no f###### nonsense BS advice 👍
The last 30 seconds of the video Erm !!!! I think you hit the nail on the head ,,,,Erm,,,,Erm,,,,Erm,,,,! 👍
Loved the vlog mate, you must have been a recruiting sergeant in a previous life 🤣❤
Possibly
Excellent advice.
Brilliant info thanks.
Hi Deady as a diver trainer i may be able to help your subscribers with getting in to the industry. If i can please let me know.
Could you help me?
Hi mate I've just watched one of your vlogs where at the end you had to run back to get your camera (go pro) I would get a small remote control car to fix it to or a drone so you don't have to keep running back for it.
It’s like this was made for me 🤣 I passed class 1 yesterday!
Is it difficult I'm 16 and want to do it when I'm 18
As I was bus driving I went straight to class 1 because I was already used to driving a large vehicle. If it wasn't for that I most likely would have gone 2 then 1 for the same reasons you stated. But the buses got me comfortable with driving through housing estates and mental busy high streets, both day and night rush hour pissing rain in the dark etc. Not being able to see a thing because my cargo was breathing and steaming all the windows up.
Ive had my licence 7months class 1 did conversion from draw bar to artic and while i have been idle been doin refreshers .
Refreshers?
Great vid and brilliant ending. Me thinks you farted at 14.42. Funny!
Was made redundant during furlough and now using my money for my class 1 and 2.Just waiting for my provisional to turn up then I can start learning 👍
Deady. Are the points cards from the petrol stations worth the time?
Nice work pal, nobody knows it all however long they have been driving because the industry and the rules change constantly. I would also add 2 things when dishing out advice..1. Read the Highway Code cover to cover (it's not hard) at least once a year and 2. Study tacho rules and wtd they can be a mine field to get your head around especially when you start getting into going on a ferry etc and for a newbie they are quite daunting but eventually you will see ,not so bad , but know your hours properly and they will be your friend!...especially when doing time sensitive deliveries...you can do all this before even applying for a licence....keep up the good work mucker 👍👍👍
A great watch. which agency did you use ? I'm from Bolton Wigan area so close to your area I think. Just wondering which are best agencies .just been made redundant from a fruit and veg firm so need options. Thanks
Thanks Deady, very useful tips so appreciated. I have passed my theory, hazard perception and CPC recently. Practical training and test is w/c 17th August. Can't wait to get started I'm genuinely excited to get out there driving so hope I pass and an agency sounds like the perfect way to get experience and flexibility

Do you have any advice to pass cpc case studies?
@@chrisandrews7518 I'm using the HGV training centre to arrange everything but the practical course and test is through East Coast driver training in Norwich

Great video and great advice deady! quick question whats your thougths on trucknet? I wish I had never gone on that forum seems to be one hell of a negative place especially as an aspiring trucker
mostly old timers moaning, is my experience
@@MrMortifi69 @steezyraptor
There's some good information there, especially in regards to passing your test, and finding an honest opinion of a particular company.
That having been said, I agree that there is some moaning, albeit mixed in with with plenty of legitimate criticism of the industry.
My dad has worked for Jack Richards and son for 10 years now and when covid took over he was one of the first ones to get furlough due to him being a cancer patient. He is finally back at work but he isn't a tramper anymore due to it being to dangerous. Richards didn't look for drivers for a while but now they are again. Just subscribed to you and I love it. My dad tells me never to be a HGV driver. He has had over 20 years experience and some of the stuff he has seen isn't the greatest and I am a family guy so it won't really suit me.
Keep up the amazing work and keep on trucking.
I got told never to be a HGV driver, now i love it.
@@Deady2012 I love your videos very enthusiastic
ive had my licence for 6 months now and only just started 2 weeks ago in 7.5 tonne and appied to the same company 3 times and i applied for every job that came up so i can be hard to get into this industray just glad ive made it now
Hi mate i have been driving since the early 90s and I had the same enthusiasm as yourself. If I could give you one bit of advice get your adr on tanks and with your willingness and enthusiasm to learn you would love it. I know it’s hard to get into especially now with the corona virus but if you keep knocking on doors and sending in applications you will get there.
Hey deady hope you are fine and well hope one day you will come and work for Tesco full time work we need plenty of class 2 drivers
I'm a bus driver and interested in the class 2, should be easier since I have experience driving a similar sized vehicle.
I went through Scania, booked my medical, CPC Mod 2&4 class 2 lessons + test plus theory. Passed everything first....then jumped straight into class 1 lessons and test passed first again. Took me 2 and half months. Only ever driven class 2 whilst learning. Been on artics since January passed everything December 2019. It can get all done in 1 month however the DVLA send everything back 2nd class which takes ages. All in it set me back around £2750
I had 8 years as an agency driver and enjoyed it
You get the experience and variety
The keenest drivers get the most work
Fussy agency drivers wont get as much work as the keen drivers
If you apply to be an agency driver etc reduce your living costs and must be able to live on one day work per week and
Just got my mod 4 to do n I’m all set anyone recommend how I should go about work? I’m currently employed aswell so not sure how to go about it
emmm! straight to the point fairplay
Thanks helps a lot.
Deady, can I ask a big big favour. Your training videos, can you edit the titles to number them in the correct order, so first one stick a number 1 before the title and so on. This will make it easy to know which to watch in what order. Thanks
i started at DHL and been told when i pass i will have a HGV driving job with them too.
good advice its how i started 41 years ago.
Good advice. I started HGV training in September. Took me 10 months. If it wasn’t for the rona, I’d have completed in 6. I posted on one of your earlier videos, my medical took ages; 8-9 weeks. My tacho card arrived within a week; posted 21st arrived by 28th. Still waiting on upgraded license and DQC.
I think I can drive on the Mod 4 certificate, but would rather wait another week or two.
I have registered with Driver Hire. I don’t think each branch will provide the same experience. One branch called and we had a good chat about my plans, what is expected and other stuff. Another branch fobbed me off with a couple of lines in an email.
Regardless, I'm looking forward to getting on the road by mid August hopefully. I'm up for taking anything I can get for the first 6 months, get some experience doing different stuff, then find my preference.
Good luck👍

Aup Gareth I just had a good idea, when you did a video on the wages and showed how much you got from the last place. When you done a couple of months where you are now, you could do a video of how much you get paid for a month from the new place. Just as a comparison to see if there is any difference between the two jobs. Keep those wheels going piece out ✊ youth

Loads of videos on CZcams pal
You can read all the rules online (working time directive, driving time etc etc) you get a Digicard (have to apply for it, can't remember the cost) but it's just like a credit card. Slide it into a tacho, and then press the button to set it to other work, or break when you want. It'll switch to driving mode and count driving time automatically, so when you get to your 4.5hrs or 6hrs working time you can take a break. Stop, set tacho to break and wait until you've got however much break you want (45mins total to reset 4.5hrs drive time). When learning to drive you won't use your tacho card. Any company will tell you the basics when you're training with them after passing out. I'd imagine there's CZcams vids showing how to put a card in, manual entry, different modes, all the various rules etc but don't stress about it. Good luck.
If you pass the theory and you failed on the hazard do you have to retake them all or just the theory
Just theory
