- The Abu Garcia Veritas rod and the KastKing Royale Legend rod are two great options under $100. Can the $69 Royale Legend be as good as, or even better than, the $100 Veritas rod? I'll discuss the features of both rods, what I like about both rods, and what I don't like about each rod. I'll give my final thoughts and let you know which rod I'm still using.

Thanks for this comparison. The last 5 inches of my Veritas rod broke. I contacted Abu Garcia’s customer service department twice using their email system, but they failed to even reply. I then sent them a third email notice, telling them about my disappointment with their lack of response. Still never heard back. It appears this company doesn’t care about their customers once they have your money. I liked the rod, but will never purchase any of their products again. I told them that I would spread the word. So I am doing that now.
I'm an expat living part time in the Philippines. The cost of name brand equipment is high here when you can find it. A friend introduced me to kastking and I've become a big fan. Back home I own a lot of high end equipment but I am buying kastking equipment and am impressed. Good quality for your dollar or peso
Love my Royale Legend rods! Bought my first last spring along with a Royale Legend Elite reel and couldnt believe the quality. Loved it so much I just got a complete second setup to add to it. Also going to add a nice spinning combo as well this year! Im completely sold on KastKing the quality/price ratio is unreal!
They are amazing these days. The were really cheap quality years back. You made this comment 3 years ago and even since then they are even better. Kastking is coming up.

I bought 3 gen 1 veritas rods for $40 each during the fall of 2015 when they were being phased out. There are several things I hate about these rods. The metal butt cap bruises my ribs during hooksets, I have to use a pair of channel locks to tighten the locknut on the reel seat, and all 3 rods have faded to a grayish color. I bought a Veritas 2.0 rod in 2016 and the color hasn't faded and I can tighten the locknut with my hand. These rods are mainly used for pond hopping and are used more than my other rods. I am very pleased with the durability of these rods since none of them have been broken in 3 years.
My eyes got wide when you said "break test"! Good video Devon. I have both rods and I am slowly replacing all my Abu Garcia gear with KastKing.

I used to have an old FLW rod that had twice as many guides as any other rod. They were also nearly half the size. I swear that thing would cast the same lure an extra 10 yards. So line guides to me make a huge difference. Your old man has weeny hands too LOL. Good video again. Can’t wait for open water again.

I will pass both and get an Abu Vendetta rod. I've been pretty much abusing the rod for last 7 years and only the female joint fibre was stretched a little bit recently. This rod has 8~30g lure weight, but I even cast 2~3oz (1oz =28.3g) sinkers. No problem. I only paid 110 euros. The rod weight is about 120g. Best rod ever.

I'm getting to this deal late, but I picked up a Veritas 2.0 w/ micro guides this year for $80 on sale. No eyelet inserts breaking (yet) issues, and run 30# braid w/ flouro leader thru 'em too. No problem. Great rod. Just picked up a KastKing speed demon bass Shakey head spinning rod for $80. I can't believe the sensitivity and overall functionality of this rod! It's at another level for this price range! Nano technology & KastKing rock!! 👍
The veritas has been a great rod. I have two of the old regular guide rods and they never let me down. Thanks for watching man!

I truly feel the best bang for the buck at under $150 for an extremely well made Bass rod is the Duckett Micro Magic. They have came down from $160 to $130 in most retailers. Now some are still getting full markup but don’t ever pay that. Also Halo Bass Rods, It’s a China based rod company that still offers some fantastic products as well for around what the Kastking gear is selling.
You should do a balance test in future reviews, like show the balance points of the rod with and without a reel along with the reel weight. I feel that this also plays a big part on how a rod feels. Great detailed review/comparison, keep it up!!!

Hi Debo, I have four Veritas, and three have broken and the eyes brake off. Why didn't you show the small eyelets on the veritas. I now have kastking rods, and reels, and love them.
I think they changed the name to “Royale Select” now. I couldn’t find Royale Legend on Amazon. They have the speed demon pro rods now as well which look to be really nice.

I would like to know where each of the rods were manufactured?
Honestly for $70 I’d probably go pick up another Alex peric absolute rod from favorite. I just don’t trust the quality in kastking anymore after getting my kastking mega jaws. Again I thought it would feel like the quality of a $60 reel but I prefer the lews American hero to it by far.
I know this is old and my comments getting old last time .....maybe..... I was feeling a lil sad with a lot of the hate on kastking after my recent purchase, I must say I got in My speed demon Rod and man that thing is super sexy was checking rods at bass pro and at least by first impressions and feel The speed demon is a very nice rod and that Fuji reel seat is so Nice. Just wish Kastking would send the reel soon

Thanks for the video and comparison. I wish I could see the bend curve for the different weights, I am trying to understand rod actions, but I see two type rods eighter too stiff or too loose. I tried tens of rods at Bass pro shop and I didn't like them. I am a spinner guy and I love Japanese market rods, I am new to North America and everything is suddenly changed regarding fishing tackle :) What is your opinion or suggestions? please advise :)
Spinning rods are naturally softer than casting. I have a video on rod power and action that should definitely help you out!

If you'd like a bigger trigger on the KastKing, why not try some shaping putty? I know archers use that type of putty to form the grip on their bow so that it fits their hand better. Maybe this could be a new thing: custom rod handles.
Hay Bro, the TON rating for carbon modules is in fact a world standard. IM etc are company created and are not any kind of standard.
Doom Boles hey buddy, thanks for watching. I couldn't agree more and that was my point in covering that info. The TON or Tonnage (world standard), similar to the million modulus (US Standard), is a true graphite rating. The problem is that not every company uses that rating. Additionally, there is more to a rod than just the blank (resins, scrims, etc.). It would be like if each shoe company listed the measurement in something different and didn't tell you how they related. Thanks for confirming that this is confusing for consumers! Nice job on the comparison. My only complaint is you put it against a 2.0. The regular Veritas is quite different. And price wise probably shoulda went up against the vendetta. Still interesting. I'm debating on trying out some kastking products. But as a kayak tournament angler it's difficult to determine if people are saying it's good because of it being good or they want a sponsor. I know this is a popular rod among a lot of people so I figured it would be a good base comparison. I have owned the vendetta but I think the Royale Legend runs right along side the Veritas, that's why I put it up against it. I do love the KastKing and what they are doing in the industry but I always give honest feedback and compare based on facts. If something is just my opinion, i always try to make that clear. If another company does something better, I'll say it. Hopefully KastKing will listen and make improvements as needed! Thanks again for taking time to check out my vid!

I love the trigger on the Veritas and the skeletal rod seat is nice. It's close, and the Veritas is a TOUGH rod. But that's the reason I switched. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
DEBO'S Fishing love your content, and I love kastking products. I have a couple kastking reels and love them. I haven't had the opportunity to try any of the kastking rods. I do own a few abu rods paired with kastking reels. I have the veritas and love it,
it just feels good in the hand and very light weight combo paired with the assasin reel.

🎣...Veritas has SIC guide inserts which are better for braid that's why the Veritas is alittle bit more money because of higher quality guides....I believe. The kastking is a good rod but wish it had a skeleton reel seat.I think both rods are good for the price. I fished with both.
Thanks for watching! The veritas has titanium guides with zirconium inserts. The extra cost probably comes from the 30 ton blank and skeletal reel seat among other cosmetics. Agreed. Both rods have been good. And I do like the reel seat MUCH more on the veritas. Hold the reel like a vice and I love the trigger.
DEBO'S Fishing ...Yeah the first couple of years the veritas had titanium frame SIC guides inserts then they cheappin them up. I have four of the older ones. I use them when I fish the river for Smallies. I am a Dobyns fan have quite a few of those rods I us when tournament fishing. I am really surprised that kastking hasn't been picked up or kastking hasn't picked up anybody to promote or market them in any kind of series like FLW's or Elite or Bass because they are a good product for the price. Kastking still is probably a company building it's following and capital before they can do something big like that. Well good vids and good luck fishing.🎣

That's amazing. I just watched your Perigee II video as well. Looks like that is basically the same rod (except Perigee II is lighter) - all the features you highlighted in this video were part of that rod, plus the 2 piece changeable tips. Seems like a win-win to me. Can I use the Perigee II roughly the same way?
John Frank yea the Royale Legend MH is closer to the fast actions that I'm use to. The Perigee II Rod that I have is just a bit softer of a tip. I love the Royale Legend rod for moving baits. The Perigee II Rod is going to be my weightless soft plastic setup. But I was testing it with Texas rigs and it worked great!

I’m trying to be open minded and wrap my head around this kast king frenzy by watching these reviews but I’ve yet to find one comparison review were kast king is not the better product????? Since i get my first kastking rod i never take any other rod, all my new rods and reels are kastking now . And i cant be more happy with this gear , i can buy 2 or 3 high end combos for low money . And in my opinion the performance form kastking gear is the best, for me,i cant talk for other people its only my opinion.

I have two veritas rods one is seven eleven and the other is seven something , what I've noticed is that the butt section is way too long for my stature , beer belly , and if I have over sized jacket or a sweatshirt on the heel gets in the way , very annoying , so I just broke out the old hacksaw and cut to fit , doesn't look very pretty but did trick then I put on a rubber chair leg floor protector on the butt , doesn't look that great but it worked , so yeah I just screwed up a couple of rods but I like'em

I will fish with the boat at a depth of 5 meters and in salt water. I will use "Zerek Live Shrimp", "Daiwa Duckfin Shad" and rarely "Fiiish black minnow". I will use 5-15gr lead weight. The fish I will catch is a maximum of 5 kg. usually 1-2 kilograms. What do you think is the BEST baitcasting rod in the WORLD for this?
The Royale Legend reminds me of the Shimano Zodias, but it is $130 cheaper!
Nix Weav people have told me that. I've never used one. I've never owned a shimano rod. The Royale Legend rod is good but I'm truly loving the speed demon bass rods. They are only $10 more. I need to do a comparison between those two 🤔

Nix Weav the legends are still awesome rods. Still use my MH as an all purpose setup. It really depends on what you want to do with it. What baits you plan to throw the most.

Lance Howard very interesting read. I've heard a lot of that info from other places. I would love to tour some factories where they make them to watch it all. It would be interesting to see how similar companies make rods and how close to being the same they actually are.
DEBO'S Fishing there is a show that comes on Sportsman Channel called Made for the Outdoors that showed a rod factory in Korea last week, was really cool. Might can find it up on here, think it's TFO rods they showed.
I like St.Croix Mojo rods, but they are pricey.

Honestly Abu Garcia is pretty junk, I had their vengeance rod and the same shit would happen to me, the 3rd time I used it the rod literally snapped in half on me. 😑

My veritas eyelet insert fell out
First (at least for me) the hook keeper in that style is annoying, since I do flip and pitch 70% of the time somehow the line gets hung up in that keeper .
Second it matters more where the rod was made , most companies employ an overseas manufacturer and simply stamp their logo on it to sell in the states , I do not buy a rod unless it’s made here , St Croix , G loomis, kistler as there is a lot of pride in owning one let alone knowing the money you spent benefits the workers and their families right here in the good’ol 🇺🇸.
Third quality vs quantity ...I’d rather have one quality rod than 5 cheap rods made who knows where.
