    Thank you for this explanation. I'm just trying to get back into fishing after 30 years and I'm strictly a bank fisherman. I'm honestly more frustrated than anything else. I feel like I'm spending a fortune and doing it blindly. I'm close to just giving it up entirely.

    You taught my wife and I how to spool a spinning reel. I started on spincast, then a bait caster. My wife likes spinning, so I got myself a dock demon to try it. Now I'm in love with spinning! And this video shows me the dock demon is my type!

    Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup czcams.com/users/postUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.

    The line will tell you about a bite faster than a rod can. A trick I always used when bass fishing with the soft Walmart special rods as a kid. Hold the rod in front of the reel, let the line rest on a finger and keep the pole pointed at where the line meets the water. That trick helps keep the pond scum out of the spincast as well.

    As usual Professor Debo schools us on the important stuff rather than just another channel with guys repeating "OMG...OMG...its big one" while they take another sip of their Monster drink. Between Debo and Hat Cam Bass I feel I have a decent handle on bass fishing and the confidence to go and dangle a line without feeling like a tardo if I backlash. And I also don't get sensory overload when I go into Bass Pro to buy some baits. These two guys explain stuff a beginner angler REALLY needs to know to get started fishing with confidence. Dangle on man!

    The 1 thing you left out here ( I think you did anyways) is line . Mono with more stretch requires a slightly heavier rod to get a hook set where braid with no stretch might require a rod with more give . So type of line is just as important as pound test you’re using

    It gets a bit confusing, but I think a guy has to decide in advance on a rod selection for the kind of fishing you do that day at the river, lake, pond, saltwater, inland, etc. ect.... Having said that it's a good idea to check with the locals on what they use. A bait shop is a good source of information to select rod/reel combos as well as bait/jig/leur for the time of day or year, the species and area you cover.

      Ryan U thank you very much man, I appreciate your support. I don't but the lower the ratio, the slower the reel. A lot of it is preference. A 6.3 or 7.0 reel are probably the best for someone starting out. You can do most applications on those!

    This is a really good video, but you make a really weird statement about being a bank fisherman and needing a shorter rod? Navigating obstacles on the shore might be easier with a short rod, especially if you're moving through brush and similar. But navigating obstacles in the water, then it's a massive advantage to have a longer rod. A longer rod lets you move the tip further to navigate around obstacles in the water. As well as going higher to move your rod up and lower to move it down. Not to mention all the extra casting distance you get.

  • @lancehoward1802
    @lancehoward1802 Před 6 lety +4

    Only problem with using a rod that is too short from the bank is you can hang alot of lures up right up close where if you have one 7' or longer it can help you with the angle when the water is tapering up.

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  Před 6 lety

      Lance Howard thanks for the comment brother. Good input. Additionally, a longer rod will let you cast farther. Completely necessary sometimes from the bank to ensure you're reaching every spot possible. I just see a lot of people struggle with really long rods while pitching, casting around trees and weeds, etc. Shorter is not always better, especially if you're fishing a spot that's wide open and has a trail or something. I appreciate you taking the time to comment and thank you for watching!

      Oh yeah, wasn't criticizing at all. Just comes down to if you have to worry more about snagging what's above or what's below.

      Lance Howard oh no man, didn't take is as criticizing at all. I love these discussions and just try to give all views on something to help people. I completely agree with you. All about preference, and that's with almost EVERYTHING in fishing. I love that you provide your view and I encourage it. You should definitely tune in to all of my "fish food for thought" videos, your input would be valuable!

      Oh yeah, I'm subbed. More of a Lews guy myself but love the channel lol. Hoping to start doing vids this spring myself. Wish I had of filmed the 10lbs. in my pic about a month ago but of course not lol.

      Lance Howard thanks for the sub. Lew's is an AWESOME company too. I own Lew's reels. I just couldn't justify spending $100+ on each reel. I would never talk bad about their products. I just love what KastKing is doing in the industry. They are a newer company but they deserve more credit. I would never knock another company to make one look better. Just give my experiences and the facts. Thanks again bro 👊

    Ditto to the kudos on your explanation. Watched the video several times as I'm looking for a rod to bottom bounce troll for wall eyes. Mostly use 1-2.5 oz bottom bouncers and the 7' Is better than the 6.5 length'. Med power, med fast to fast action. Only trouble is - reading online suggestions vs actually feeling the rod in the store (then on the water) can be time consuming. You ever done this application? You comments?

    under 2 years of fishing and I am now up to ten rods. Going from heavy to light. Please don't let me be that guy with tons of fishing gear. i think i have more fishing stuff then i really need. lol now when i invite someone to fish i just tell them just bring themselves and I will bring everything. lol

    About 3:07 and rod action. If you have two Extra Heavy power rods and want to cast a light lure, and one of them is Extra Fast action and one is Extra Slow action, which would do better with the light lure?

    Learned a lot. Now I am thoroughly confused, lol. For some reason, I look and look and end up with a medium or medium heavy. Just an old dog trying to learn some new tricks! But, bought one of those light KastKing Calamus rods after I saw you use one. Love that thing.

    I have two baitcasting rods...
    1. Power - Medium and Action - Medium Fast ( C.W - 7 to 28g)
    2. Power - X heavy and Action - X Fast ( C.W - 7 to 36g)
    What are these rods useful for???
