    It’s not the answer many women are looking for, but I prefer 100 times a doctor telling me why it’s not recommended rather them just doing it for the money and me regretting it later

      Thank you for the appreciation, @fernandacapaceta. While hair transplants are not advised for diffuse female pattern hair loss, we can actually get better hair density than any transplant, for less cost, by thickening thinning hair non-surgically with the TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment featured in the video. Unlike hair transplants that can cause hair loss when transplanted too close to native hair follicles, we maximize growth of these follicles, and thickness of these hairs for the advantage of our patients. Thank you again for watching.

    I just wanted to thank you for giving us a lot of information and that you take the time to actually answer many of the community´s questions. To all of you: Being a woman and losing a huge part of what is considered our "beauty" is traumatizing. I personally have started wearing lace wigs, but I m limited with these and the constant hiding is tiresome. I became a ninja when someone gets too close to my head, I stopped diving or getting my head wet infront of others all in fear that my wig would be somehow discovered, I don´t let anybody touch my head either.
    It´s crippling, so I m sending you all a big hug and wish you fellow hair loss ladies all the best!

      Hi liketube3,
      You would a proper examination first by an experienced doctor to see what the issue is. Female pattern hair loss is usually hair thinning throughout the scalp, not just the hairline. Most temporary causes of hair shedding don't need treatment. A proper assessment is needed to determine what you have before considering any treatment. I hope this helps you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 9 měsíci

      Hi @yanyandoc,
      Sorry to hear about your problem. I would have to diagnose the cause of your hair loss first to confirm it is pattern hair loss. If it is, TrichoStem Hair Regeneration can thicken thinning hair at the hairline, as well as stimulate growth from dormant but still viable hair follicles. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hey! I'm 21 and I'm experiencing hairloss since I was 13. My hemoglobin, thyroid, menstrual cycle all are good. I visit a dermatologist and he said go for a Vitamin D test. And he suggested me minoxidil just on the basis of asking questions and no actual diagnosis. He said if all your symptoms mentioned above are good then it is a case of female pattern baldness. I'm really skeptical on using minoxidil. And it's hard to accept if I actually have FPB. Or if it is chronic telogen effluvium. And I also wanna ask does ferritin has any connection with hairloss? And should I use minoxidil just at 21 age?

      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 2 lety

      Hi Violette Z,
      I hope you understand that I can't recommend specific treatments for you without examining your scalp, and diagnosing the cause of your hair loss. Female pattern hair loss is diagnosed by examining for hair thinning, and possibly scalp biopsies if a physical examination may also point to other hair loss causes like PCOS. Lack of ferratin may cause hair loss, but not female pattern hair loss which is caused by genetics. You can refer to these videos on how we diagnose and treat female pattern hair loss:

    Dr, Is hair growth based on gene?
    I(female) had good thick hairs and now almost getting bald 2 years post gallbladder removal.. I strongly believe my hair baldness has connection to my surgery. What would you suggest?

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi TM,
      Your gallbladder surgery won't cause female pattern hair loss. Pattern hair loss is caused by genetics, so you are born with predisposition to it in your DNA.
      Your gallbladder removal will not cause pattern hair loss, but the stress of surgery, or the stress of general anesthesia may cause temporary hair shedding. Shed hair does grow back without medical intervention. Pattern hair loss is when shed hair grows back progressively thinner, and there is a delay in regrowth. Pattern hair loss can still occur simultaneously with a cause of temporary hair shedding, so an examination is needed to confirm female pattern hair loss. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 4 lety +2

      Hi Divya Singh,
      Sorry to hear about your problem. I suggest you have your PCOS treated first, and see if there is any improvement. If you have a hair transplant done close to native thinning hair, you risk losing those hair follicles permanently.
      I don’t administer PRP alone for hair loss because it has a limited effect on hair, usually just short-term hair growth. Also, the number of sessions needed does vary, and the longevity of results is unpredictable. TrichoStem™ Hair Regeneration is a PRP combination treatment where PRP is the activator of the main ingredient extracellular matrix by ACell. TrichoStem™ Hair Regeneration is a one-time treatment for most patients, and can last up to 5 years and beyond, depending on the aggressiveness of the hair loss pattern. You don't need repeat injections periodically. Using this treatment can thicken your thinning hair, which is more densely packed in your scalp than even multiple hair transplants can achieve. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi@@DivyaSingh-bp5lu,
      Yes, the treatment is not available in India, but you can have your PCOS treated in India. If you do need a treatment like this after your diagnosis and management of your PCOS, you will have to travel for it. Since it is a non-surgical treatment with little to no recovery time, and in many cases no additional treatment, you don't need an extended stay in the US. Many patients actually get back on the plane home the same day as treatment, but I don't recommend this for everyone as it is dependent on general health condition and age.Some patients with advanced hair loss may get a second treatment 15-24 months after the first, and results for international patients are monitored through Skype, Facetime, or email follow up.

    Dr Prasad, I need your help.
    I'm an 18 year old girl who's been diagnosed with androgentic alopecia with NO early onset family history of it. Not in my mom, dad, siblings, aunts, uncles, grandparents, GREAT grandparents, et cetera, the men obviously experienced hair loss, but not early onset or out of the usual, and they never reached the last Norwood stage. Some of my distant relatives have it.
    I'm extremely skeptical and worried. I used to have extremely thick, full hair, and although I STILL have a lot of hair, you can see my scalp through my hair at the front, and my part looks wider, which isn't normal.
    I've suffered from EXCESSIVE hair shedding for YEARS and YEARS (since I was about 14). I didn't worry about it because new hairs were growing out. I have grown up with extraordinarily abusive and mentally ill parents and was depressed from the age of 12. I had an eating disorder and would starve myself across years to remain skinny.
    I became extremely ill (covid) 6 months ago, my dog died 4 months ago, and a month ago I went under general anesthesia and surgery.
    Doesn't it seem more like telogen effluvium?
    I cannot bring myself to believe that I have andro"genetic" alopecia, seeing my family history would compel you to believe I have the best genetics for hair. (I have a 65+ year old aunt with waist-long, full hair).
    I know you cannot diagnose someone online with anything, but please give me any advice you can as you are a very knowledgeable and educated dermatologist.

      Hi Ash Lynx,
      Sorry to hear about your problems. It is possible to have telogen effluvium, and concurrent pattern hair loss. Also, the genes for pattern hair loss can come from several generations from both sides of your family, so it is possible that you have them from a family member you’ve never even met.

    Hello Dr. It’s been a while that you’ve made this video so I highly doubt if you will even notice my comment but I will ask away since I am in confusion. I am a 29 yo, female , junior Dr. I was diagnosed with alopecia in 2015, now the thing is the dermatologists that I’ve consulted gave me mixed opinion regarding if mine is a chronic telogen effluvium or androgenic alopecia. Mind that I didn’t have any scalp biopsy done, only ran full blood count, Iron levels, trichoanalysis with micro camera, 24 hr hair fall count, scalp scrapping and tests for fungus or other organisms. They found nothing, just on these tests and clinical examinations they gave me a diagnosis of telogen effluvium with male pattern baldness( I have diffuse hair loss and not any definitive patches of hair loss or anything). They prescribed me vitamins like biotin+zinc and minoxidil 5%. I’ve been on minoxidil on and off all throughout since 2015 , it shows improvement when I continue throughly and whenever I stopped, hairfall went back to point zero. I’m kind of done with it, with minoxidil. Moreover, I’ve been noticing anxiety and mood swings along with rapid weight gain and I’m pretty sure it’s due to minoxidil usage since I’ve done nothing differently to gain this much weight so quickly.If you’ve read this far with patience, then thank you but my question is, does topical minoxidil cause weight gain in chronic usage? does it causes any cardiovascular suppression or aggravated cardiac event? is it worth it to compromise my cardiac and general wellbeing by using minoxidil topically in the long run? if you answer, I will be immensely grateful.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD

      Hi Tracy Short,
      I don't perform, or usually recommend scalp micropigmentation. Scalp micropigmentation is limited in only giving the appearance of hair with buzz cuts, so there would be no benefit for a woman who has, or is planning to have a longer hairstyle. You can still have other treatments after scalp micropigmentation, but scalp micropigmentation can look odd if you don't have hair growing in the tattooed areas, while hair grows in surrounding areas. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi @Ines-bh5hb,
      As explained in the video, hair transplants are not recommended for diffuse hair thinning, which is the most common hair thinning pattern in female androgenetic alopecia, because implanting hair grafts will damage nearby native hair follicles, causing more hair loss. I suggest you have your PCOS treated first by your gynecologist as that can help with your hair as well.

      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před rokem

      Hi Aleksandra Wielka,
      Sorry to hear about your problem. A hair transplant is not recommended for your condition for a couple of main reasons:
      1) You will lack donor hair to transplant if you are affected by alopecia universalis
      2) Even if you have some donor hair to transplant, transplanted hair follicles can still be attacked by the same autoimmune condition you have, so even the transplanted hair can be lost.
      I suggest you try managing your autoimmune condition with your dermatologist. While autoimmune conditions are challenging to treat, it is possible for hair to grow back if they are resolved years later, and in some cases without medication. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Sorry to hear about your problem. Trichotillomania over a long period can permanently damage hair follicles, so the treatment cannot work on permanently damaged hair follicles. Sir, I'm 22 and I'm having female pattern hair loss. I have been using minoxidil 2% solution regularly, for about 3 months. Earlier, I didn't have any side effects due to minoxidil, but now I'm having an itchy scalp. I'm really worried about my partition getting widened eventually. Should I stop minoxidil usage? If you are using minoxidil liquid, there is also minoxidil foam that doesn't have propylene glycol that breaks down the skin barrier for better absorption but is also a skin irritant for some users.

      Hi Not Saying,
      Sorry, but the TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment can only be done in one of our offices in the US as it's custom formulated for each patient’s gender, age of onset of hair loss, degree of hair loss, medications taken, and the PRP used as the activator is derived from each patient’s own blood. Since it is a non-surgical treatment with little to no recovery time, and in many cases no additional treatment, you don't need an extended stay in the US. Many patients actually get back on the plane home the same day as treatment, but I don't recommend this for everyone as it is dependent on general health condition and age. Some patients with advanced hair loss may get a second treatment 15-24 months after the first, and results for international patients are monitored through Skype, FaceTime, or email follow up.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Purplebutterfly,
      It depends on the aggressiveness of the cancer treatment, and concurrent issues. Usually, chemotherapy stops the hair growth cycle, which is a condition called anagen effluvium. After chemotherapy, most people report hair regrowth comparable to that prior to chemotherapy. It is also possible that the consistent toxicity of chemotherapy can damage hair follicles, estrogen blocking drugs for breast cancer can affect hair thinness, and concurrent pattern hair loss not related to chemotherapy can become more pronounced during chemotherapy or recovery. We can treat female pattern hair loss without surgery for women who have it, after chemotherapy has been stopped. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      I'm very sorry to hear about your problem, as no one should go through domestic violence. It's not clear if your hair loss is due to emotional stress, which can cause temporary hair shedding known as telogen effluvium, which does grow back without medical intervention; or if it's due to physical trauma on hair follicles, which can be damaging to hair follicles. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi vyshnavi gantasala,
      Sorry to hear about your problem. Minoxidil won't thicken your hair, or stop hair loss, but it appears to delay the hair shedding cycle, and extends the hair growth cycle so you appear to have more hair on your head. You will have to use it daily to sustain these effects, but these effects can also decrease with time even if you use it daily. It is common to have significant hair shedding if you stop using minoxidil, and it does take time to regain that hair again, but it can easily shed again if you stop minoxidil, or if the effects of minoxidil wane.

However, hair can grow back differently after anagen effluvium due to chemotherapy. I don't plan on having children and I wasn't sexually active so that wasn't a problem for me, but it is important to know.

      Hi@@jeneliahsharma5125,
      Sorry to hear about your problem, but you need to see an experienced doctor for a proper examination and diagnosis. Female pattern hair loss is gradual hair thinning, not aggressive hair shedding where you shed 300-500 hairs a day. I hope you understand that I can't diagnose you without ever seeing your scalp, so I suggest you see a dermatologist or a trichologist in your area as soon as possible. I hope this helps you.

      Hi Jay BAL,
      As explained in the title of the video, it's not recommended for most cases because female pattern hair loss is diffuse thinning, so hairs are close together. The sharp implanter used in surgical transplants can damage nearby hair follicles, causing permanent hair loss. You can watch the video more closely for the details.

      Hi @chikkalasravani9294,
      As explained in the video, if you have the diffuse hair thinning pattern that is most common in female pattern hair loss, a hair transplant can damage nearby native hair follicles permanently, causing even more permanent hair loss. Female pattern hair loss is diffuse thinning of the whole scalp, not just the frontal hairline, so you need to have it diagnosed first before a treatment can be recommended. Hi 129. Sree Hari S.N ,
      Sorry to hear about your mother's problem. A hair transplant will not treat progressive hair loss as the cause of your mother's hair loss isn't treated by a hair transplant. Also, as explained in the video, diffuse hair thinning in female pattern hair loss means that hair grafts are placed close to native hair, so implanting these grafts can damage existing hair follicles, and cause more permanent hair loss. A proper diagnosis is needed to determine if your mother also has female pattern hair loss. You can refer to these videos on how we diagnose and treat female pattern hair loss:

      Hi @Vedika_131,
      We don't currently offer the treatment in India, but we do have many Indian patients coming to the US for treatment.
      Our offices are located in the US in Manhattan, New York City which you can call at (212) 265-8877; Garden City, Long Island at (516) 742-4636; or Vienna, Virginia at (703) 356-1336. • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 10 měsíci

      Hi @fatimashahzad5253,
      I advise that people with trichotillomania have the psychological causes of the condition treated first, because if you still have the compulsion to pluck hair after a hair transplant, the results of transplant surgery would be ruined. Hair transplant surgery is a costly operation, and hair grafts are finite since hair follicles don't regenerate, so it would be a lot of wasted time and money if grafts are pulled out due to trichotillomania. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi@@spandana1195,
      Female pattern hair loss is not hair shedding, it's gradual hair thinning, and a delay of regrowth after hair sheds. Please refer to the videos I sent you. You don't need repeat injections periodically, as PRP injections for hair loss are needed indefinitely. TrichoStem™ Hair Regeneration patients can stop using minoxidil completely, or be weaned off it to prevent a sudden hair shed.

      Hi@@brishtisi6841,
      Hair transplantation is a major surgery that should be considered carefully. Hair transplantation does not match the density of natural hair growth, and transplanting in between existing hair follicles can damage those follicles, causing permanent hair loss. You will get better hair density from your native hair, than from a transplant, which is why it's important to treat your condition first before considering hair transplant surgery. I hope this clarifies things for you.

Thickening thinning hair with our TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment is more effective way of addressing hair thinning due to female pattern hair loss, and no other treatments are needed, aside from hormone therapy for menopausal, and post-menopausal women.. As a doctor, you do understand that the cost of treatment ranges because of the extent of treatment, and that specific treatments are not recommended until a proper diagnosis is made first. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Galaxi,
      Generally, multivitamins and supplements should still be taken after a transplant, but since you have so many, and the are unspecified, they would have to be specifically cleared with your transplant surgeon. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi L Z,
      I'm sorry to hear that, but I don’t administer PRP alone for hair loss because it has a limited effect on hair, usually just short-term hair growth. PRP injections for hair loss are needed indefinitely. Some TrichoStem™ Hair Regeneration patients with advanced hair loss get a second treatment 15-24 months after the first which we call the booster, but this is already included in the cost of the treatment plan, so you don’t pay extra for it. TrichoStem™ Hair Regeneration patients can stop using minoxidil completely, or be weaned off it to prevent a sudden hair shed. You can refer to these videos about the differences between TrichoStem™ Hair Regeneration from PRP alone:

      Hilakshmi prasanna,
      Sorry to hear about your problem. Iron deficiency is not conclusively linked to hair loss and hair thinning, but it is possible that you are anemic and have concurrent pattern hair loss. A proper diagnosis for female pattern hair loss is needed before you start treatment, which usually needs scalp biopsies done. You can refer to these videos on how we treat female pattern hair loss after a proper diagnosis is done:

    Sir, a friend of mine had PCOS like 2.5 years ago. Although the problem is now cured, she has lost a significant amount of hair since then. Should she go for a hair transplant surgery? And also is hair transplant surgery (FUT or FUC) the only cure to hair fall related to PCOS. Are non-surgical methods entertained for hair fall related to PCOS. Is there even a cure.

      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Nehal Roy,
      Sorry to hear about your friend's problem. As the video says, I wouldn't recommend a hair transplant if hair loss is diffuse that transplanted hair will be placed close to native hair, which can permanently damage hair follicles and cause more hair loss. We have treated hair loss associated with PCOS non-surgically with the TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment featured in the video. However, PCOS cases need to be approached on a case-by-case basis, and I have not seen your friend's scalp, or seen her workup to determine if she has concurrent pattern hair loss. There is no cure for genetic pattern hair loss, including hair transplant surgery because it doesn't treat progressive hair loss at all, but pattern hair loss can be managed to maximize scalp coverage, hair growth, and hair thickness. A physical scalp examination as well as a possible workup are needed first before I can recommend a specific treatment. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 4 lety +2

      Hi Rootatoot07,
      Hair transplants are not advised when hair thinning is diffuse because the sharp hair implanter can damage nearby existing hair follicles, causing permanent loss to those hairs. We have successfully treated women with autoimmune disorders non-surgically with the TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment featured in the video. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Mahima Bairagi,
      Some doctors do perform hair transplants using body hair, but I personally do not perform them. You have to take into account the different texture and length of growth of body hair from scalp hair, and also consider the visible scarring from the donor sites. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Sunny Kon,
      The TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment featured in the video costs about a third of an FUE transplant, or half of an FUT transplant performed in the US, without the risk of collateral damage to native hair follicles that occurs in most transplants done on diffuse female pattern hair loss. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi sujaya shinde,
      Sorry to hear about your problem. There is a chance your thinning hair can be thickened, and growth can be achieved from dormant hair follicles that are still viable but not currently growing. However, the cause of your hair loss needs to be diagnosed before treatment. Female pattern hair loss is challenging to diagnose, so scalp biopsies are needed before treatment. You can refer to these videos about the different causes of hair loss in women, and how we diagnose and treat female pattern hair loss:

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 2 lety

      Hi cupcake,
      As detailed in the video, androgenetic alopecia in women is usually diffuse hair thinning, meaning thinning native hairs are close together. The sharp implanter transplanting hair so close to native hair follicles can damage them permanently, leading to more hair loss. There is an example shown in the thumbnail, and the video, of a patient with a wide gap in her hair part where a transplant was safely done, but such cases are not as common. The video also shows how androgenetic alopecia in women can be treated without surgery. I hope this clarifies things for you.
