    A 28-year-old lady has noticed that the hair on top of her head has thinned out, to the point that the sun burns her scalp. She has been using Rogaine for 10 months, but has not seen any difference. She’s now considering PRP with ACell, but is aware that it does not work for everyone. She wants to know what her other options are.
    New York hair restoration specialist Amiya Prasad, M.D. reviews her concerns in this video, and explains the importance of diagnosis as 28 is a little young for pattern hair loss, and how PRP+ACell in his Hair Regeneration treatment has improved so almost all female pattern hair loss cases do respond to it:
    1:28 - Dr. Prasad details his background training in cosmetic oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery, as well as his experience as a hair loss specialist and founder of TrichoStem™ Hair Regeneration Centers
    2:23 - How hair loss in younger women is uncommon; why a full, proper medical examination is important; and what factors to rule out
    3:23 - The importance of looking into family history when treating hair loss; and how most hair loss cases in younger women are likely genetic
    4:26 - How Hair Regeneration has been able to treat patients of a wide range of ages, particularly women with early onset hair loss for whom hair loss management options are very limited
    5:09 - Dr. Prasad explains how he has developed formulations and algorithms for Hair Regeneration treatment based on gender, age of onset, degree of hair loss and rate of progression
    6:04 - Dr. Prasad shares that he has not had treatment failures with PRP and ACell when treating women with androgenetic alopecia
    6:27 - How there is never just one single diagnosis for hair loss, as hair loss can have other symptoms concurrently happening and require individualized treatment
    7:18 - Dr. Prasad’s recommendation
    7:36 - How hair loss is a progressive condition; and how female patients can expect to see improvement at 9 months after treatment

    As soon as I entered my 20s I started losing my hair in ropes. At first I paid no mind. Just thought I was gonna she'd a little more that time since I was stressed over college. It didn't stop yet I didn't notice until one day I tried to fix my hair and noticed I didn't have enough hair to do what I usually do and there it was...a balding spot right in front. I'm 28 now and the thinning has happened through out the years. I've only gained a bit back. Anxiety ridden every day and ashamed of myself over something I clearly can't control. I've tried so many things and what I lost never returned. I lost 75% of my hair. I'm sure it's hormone related as with my anxiety too. But I'll never know because I can't afford doctor visits. I'm at the point where I'm going to just shave it off and wear wigs so I don't have to think about it anymore. My boyfriend and family love me and I'm more than just my hair. It's sad but life goes on. Now as for my anxiety...I really need some help with that one.

      Sorry to hear about your problem, LurvBunny 88. It may have been from chronic stress that caused shedding, and perhaps combined with pattern hair loss that is gradual hair thinning. Omg I’m basically the same as the case presented in the video! I’m 28(just turned 28) and this past year I have been loading more hair. My man noticed the amount I was losing and brought it up. He went bald in his early twenties and he said my hair loss reminded him of his experience. I guess I was in denial about it. I had always lost a lot of hair. It’s also 2020, I went through a lot, am I losing it from stress or is this a big issue?? But I kept an eye on it and the hair line looks different now and this one spot that has always been thin looks thinner. The top of my hair line has been itching and I just found out that that is a sign! My mother(we’ve been estranged until this year) just told me like 2 days ago that she had a bald spot and so did her mother!! She going to see the doc but I’m flippin’ out! I’ve had long hair, dyed hair, pixie hair, shaved it- I’ve done a lot with my hair as I’ve grown and thought I was never truly attached to my hair, but now that it’s at risk, I’m really upset. Thank you for this video. I now know the first steps! I’m going to look up some doctors and treatment(home remedies until I get medical advice).

I’ve had two PRP sessions and I am getting a few new hairs, but my hair thinning keeps getting worse. @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Isabel Trejo,
      It's normal to shed 50-100 hairs a day, and these hairs grow back. Pattern hair loss is progressive hair thinning, which occurs all over the scalp in women. Female pattern hair loss is challenging to diagnose, so scalp biopsies are needed to confirm it. If you haven't had scalp biopsies done yet, you should have it done before considering treatment for female pattern hair loss. You can refer to these more recent videos about it:

Seeing no hair growth I went to a dermatologist she also told me that my hair loss is cause of hormonal imbalance... nd I am also experiencing improper mensturation. • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 6 lety

      Hi Marwa Mahmoud,
      Hair transplants are generally not recommended for women with diffuse pattern hair loss because native hair is very close together, even if it is thinning. The trauma of transplant too close to native hair can permanently damage native hair follicles, leading to more hair loss. Female hair transplants are done at the hairline, the hair part, or the crown when there is a safe distance between native hair and areas that can be transplanted. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Is a biopsy effective for someone who has been disagnosed with female pattern hair loss by doctor but diagnosed by another doctor by CCCA alopecia if the inflammation is not active?
    I have pain every so often in the center of my scalp at the top where I have thinning and that area is always especially around the hair follicle and the rest of my scalp is balanced I don’t know if it is a characteristic of CCCA or it’s normal for female pattern hair loss.
    So far I’ve done 3 prp treatments and using creams for my dry scalp at the top in order to balance it.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi Mango z,
      Scalp biopsy is an effective way to diagnose the cause of hair loss in women, but CCCA and pattern hair loss can occur at the same time. Scalp pain is not usually a symptom of female pattern hair loss, but it can be part of CCCA. We have treated female patients who had both issues concurrently, but I don't use PRP alone to treat pattern hair loss because it has a limited effect on hair, usually just short-term hair growth. Also, the number of sessions needed does vary, and the longevity of results is unpredictable. Hair Regeneration is a PRP combination treatment where PRP is the activator of the main ingredient extracellular matrix by ACell. Hair Regeneration is a one-time treatment for most patients, and can last up to 5 years and beyond, depending on the aggressiveness of the hair loss pattern. You don't need repeat injections periodically, and Hair Regeneration patients can stop using minoxidil completely, or be weaned off it to prevent a sudden hair shed. Female Hair Regeneration patients also don't need to use spironolactone. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Sneheeka Dabhade,
      Hair transplants are generally not recommended for the diffuse hair thinning of female pattern hair loss. Sorry to hear about your problem. It's important to have the cause of your hair loss diagnosed first before considering treatment, so you need to see a doctor for proper evaluation. Hello doctor, I'm 22 years old now I have consistent hair thinning and hair fall issues since I was 19...also I identify myself to be on the spectrum...my question is, does autism in women anyway linked to hair fall?

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před rokem

      Hi Neeta,
      No, autism is not associated with pattern hair loss, hair thinning, or hair shedding. While pattern hair loss is associated with progressive hair thinning, there are other possible causes like PCOS/ PCOD, and thyroid issues. Excessive hair shedding can be caused by severe stress, or hormone imbalances, so it's important to see an experienced doctor to have the cause, or causes of your hair loss properly diagnosed. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      All the images I have female pattern hair loss patients in my videos and websites were from only one treatment session, which is one of the reasons why we have international patients for our Hair Regeneration treatment in our office every day. Some patients with advanced hair loss get second treatment in the second year at no extra cost, but most patients only one treatment session. We can do our regular follow ups over Skype or email to make things convenient for your. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 6 lety

      Hi Martinez 209,
      I don’t administer PRP alone for hair loss because it has a limited effect on hair, usually just short-term hair growth. Also, the number of sessions needed does vary, and the longevity of results is unpredictable. Hair Regeneration is a PRP combination treatment where PRP is the activator of the main ingredient extracellular matrix by ACell. Hair Regeneration is a one-time treatment for most patients, but since you are suffering from an early onset, you are likely highly DHT-sensitive, and may need a treatment plan, along with a DHT-blocker like finasteride.

    Does the new hair regrown from this treatment grow long?

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 2 lety

      Hi Riceballs,
      The TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment can stimulate hair growth from dormant hair follicles currently not growing hair, and thicken progressively thinning hair due to pattern hair loss. A second treatment session can thicken fine hair growth stimulated by the first treatment. Hair growth stimulated by the treatment does grow long, however it only works on existing hair follicles, and cannot grow hair in areas that didn't have hair in the past, or revive hair follicles that are already miniaturized permanently due to pattern hair loss. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Riddhi Patel,
      It is likely you inherited the gene for pattern hair loss, which can come from several generations on both sides of your family, so it's not necessarily from your father. Hair loss from an illness is usually temporary, and most often hair shedding due to stress. A physical examination can confirm hair thinning due to genetic pattern hair loss. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      The cost of the Hair Regeneration treatment varies on the extent needed. While hair transplants are not usually advised for diffuse female pattern hair loss, it costs about a third of an FUE transplant, or half of an FUT transplant performed in the US. After positive diagnosis of female pattern hair loss using scalp biopsies, the success rate of the Hair Regeneration treatment for our female pattern hair loss patients has been over 99%, with visible improvement of scalp coverage.

      Hi@@soralasilber9737,
      Vitamin D is important for hair health, but vitamin D is not necessarily taken with a pill. The body can synthesize vitamin D from sunlight on direct skin exposure, but just don't overexpose the skin to sunlight. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Are you located in India?

      Hi Alka Yadav,
      We don't currently offer the treatment in India, but we do have many Indian patients coming to the US for treatment. Since it is a non-surgical treatment with little to no recovery time, and in many cases no additional treatment, you don't need an extended stay in the US. Many patients actually get back on the plane home the same day as treatment, but I don't recommend this for everyone as it is dependent on general health condition and age.

    Will it ever grow back

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD

      Hi Maral Halalzade,
      Shedding 50-100 hairs a day is normal as those hairs do grow back. Pattern hair loss happens when shed hair grows back thinner with every growth cycle, until it grows back very thin, then stops growing altogether. Pattern hair loss can also delay and limit hair regrowth cycles. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      I m shedding way more than that
      And there is a lot going on
      A little stress and diet and 15 kg weight loss
      But what I m affrait more is PCO

      Hi@@Mahralsnow,
      Stress, which also includes worry, changes in diet and weight loss, can also contribute to hair shedding. If you are worried about PCOS, the first step for diagnosis is having hormone levels checked by your gynecologist, who can also prescribe hormone therapy which can be the contraceptive pill. I hope this helps you.

      I got diagnosed its telogen effluvium
      Will it grow back
      I lost more than 60 percent of my hair

      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Před 3 lety

      Hi@@Mahralsnow,
      Shed hair grows back after telogen effluvium, so you shedding hair isn't losing hair. Pattern hair loss is shed hair growing progressively thinner in every growth cycle, as well as a delay in the regrowth cycle. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Buble' Gurl,
      Sorry to hear that. I suggest you see a doctor for a proper diagnosis as there are different causes of hair loss in women, which you can refer to in this video - czcams.com/video/LGchRe1q1SY/video.html
