      Honestly, I like all three diss tracks but Hiss is still kinda top dawg for me. From the fact that she made the first one of the year, to the opponents she chose to address (Drake AND Nicki?? And more ppl? On a single song?? That’s so bold you gotta just respect it off rip), to her delivery being scathing af. The way she says “Megan’s law!” and “posted in another nigga hood like a bad bitch!” is the most aggressive she’s been on a beat. She’s got the crown for it for me. I expect that when Kendrick responds to Drake he’ll be on that same type of time with the delivery and take the crown. But we’ll see.

    I'm with Alvin on women's friendships. I was raised as a cis woman and I am AFAB, now identifying as NB, but I'm also neurodivergent and visibility racialized as black in an elitist, extremely conservative white area, so I didn't have ANY friends growing up. Now as an adult NB woman, a lot of friendships with women completely baffle me. It's not always like this, I do have some pretty low maintenance cis women friends, but there are some women who have this unspoken expectation for you to be their confidant, pseudo therapist, ride or die, brunch buddy, hobby-friend, down for anything bestie when they need you, but don't be overbearing when they don't need you because theyre also an adult and theyre also busy....It's so confusing, especially since they'll rarely come out and specify their expectations, they will just assume and then start acting funny when you don't perform to their unspoken requests. I don't know how much of it is my neurodivergency and how much of it is the strange, subtle machinations of women's friendships, but it definitely gives me headaches and I've had to just cut some people off. I overall vibe better with equally low maintenance people who are more similar to Alvin in general because at the bare minimum they will state what they want or dont want bluntly and take the super stressful guesswork out of it and put me out of misery. I can't read between the lines! I didn't even know there were lines to read between! 🫠

      @FishareFriendsNotFood972 Před 3 měsíci +4

      Hey, so I think part of this may be your discomfort with other people's discomfort. Lots of women wear their emotional reactivity on their sleeve, so will frequently make big emotional asks of their female friends and have big emotions when those asks are not met. But that's all ok. It's ok for them to have big feelings, and it's ok for you to not always show up for their big feelings. And it's also ok for them to say they are disappointed sometimes. We will all disappoint loved ones a LOT, that's part of life, and it doesn't need to be the end of things. So I think part of this for you is realizing someone pointing big negative feelings at you is often not a reflection of your worth or you doing anything wrong. Don't internalize it as a failing. Apologize to the extent you feel you want, take space! when you need, and accept close female friendships will often have a lot of big feelings followed by repair. Compared to male friendships, where often 'I feel hurt' is basically only said once and it's the end. I turned the corner to healthy friendships with women when I started saying, 'being mad at me is fine! You can tell me, I can listen, and stay friends. I want you to let me know when you're mad at me and trust me I can handle it and still like you.' So yeah, my female friends get pissed at me sometimes, I don't take it personally, and then they get over it. I've just learned to see the emotions of people with big emotions as less anxiety provoking. Hope that helps!

    Creole is an ethnicity, like Hispanic, so Creole people can be of any race or mixture. Originally, the French used the term to describe anybody born in the New World. They eventually formed their own unique culture and customs. New Orleans in particular always had a large Black and biracial Creole population who proudly identified with their Creole heritage, as a result, by the 20th century many (not all) white Creoles began to distance themselves from the term. Cajuns (Acadians) were a separate group of French immigrants that initially went to Canada and later came to Louisiana to escape English persecution.

      Thank you for breaking this down! My French uncle is from Martinique originally and dark skinned, it always confused me that he was the same ethnicity as Amber Rose and Beyoncé's mum. His dad was a Creole jazz musician, but it sounded different to the New Orleans style, more distinctive to Martinique, Guadeloupe etc. Assumed colonialism had something to do with it, as it always does, but thanks for spelling it out!

    • @smarti1144
      @smarti1144 Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@EzraSproutsamber rose is Cape Verdean not creole. And do people from Martinique consider themselves creole? I’d lived in France a have friends from there and I’d never heard that. That’s interesting! Creole in the US is what they were describing in the video and seemingly in the comment. People speak various versions of creole in many countries and the people don’t necessarily identify as creole so I don’t know that the people you named would all be the same ethnicity….from the info you shared in your comment.

    • @EzraSprouts
      @EzraSprouts Před 3 měsíci

      @smarti1144 thank you for the correction about Amber Rose, google is saying both but to be fair I'd never double checked - so thank you for the reminder to do so! Antillean Creole is the umbrella term for languages spoken in former French colonies in the Caribbean, with localised variants. The official language is French but that's just used in formal contexts. And you totally have a point distinguishing between ethnicity and language here - in fact that's probably what I was confused over! Thank you :)

    Ok I admit I laughed out loud when Josh called Eddie a psychopath; he really did just argue with himself 😂 I agree with his larger point about framing responsiveness in checking in as high care vs high maintenance; as a woman, I do think I have a tribe of primarily other women I could depend on in case of car accidents, etc., but I also think my expectation of high care/responsiveness is dependent on the closeness of the relationship, not gender. There are friends I’d drive across the city at 9pm for, and there are friends I’d get on a plane at 2am for, regardless of gender; and I guess there is something to Alvin’s point about women being conditioned to think of relationships in terms of labor, but I think I would rather err on the side of neuroticism and too much in my close relationships than not 😂 Hard agree with Alvin’s point that OP was super valid in using the not texting as a criteria to weed dudes out tho, if sis wants different for herself than I support her, that is indeed where Eddie lost me a little 🤣 I do like his larger point tho, even if it took Piccolo v Piccolo style gymnastics to arrive at!!! 😂💜

    As a guy, I agree with what eddy said in the end. That the lady in the video is being a bit od. But the larger point about men being somewhat true.
    In my experience men's friendships arent just low maintenance. They are sometimes devoid of real substance. There is no checking in, I don't feel like I could open up to them, I don't feel like they truly care about me. And when I try I get looked at like I'm weird. Like Josh said men arent socialized for that. I've only ever had 1 guy friend that I feel like I could really depend on. Maybe 2.
    This isn't to say women's friendships are perfect. I agree with Alvin saying they can be way more laborious and lack boundaries. But being able to show affection without couching it in 10 layers of jokes (if at all) would be nice lol.
    Now my experiences are anecdotal. But, I also think there is data to back this up. Especially studies surrounding male socializing and loneliness.

As someone like that I feel like it comes from a sense of empathy that goes a bit into overdrive in that I start to put myself in everyones shoes and get locked into a cycle of feeling like everyone is super valid but not having a way forward until i suddenly get to my main point when can disagree with all the perspectives I just intrenched myself in.

  • @j0rd33

    i dont think female friendships are high maintenance if a girl is high maintenance in general her friendships with men women and others alike will be high maintenance. if you don’t want a high maintenance friendship don’t be friends with someone high maintenance. but i also don’t think male friendships are low maintenance i think it’s just a different kind of maintenance. but also i think typically female friendships are deeper than male friendships. like if your average male friendship is like only text you the occasional meme or to hang out yall link three times a month have a great time then go home mind your business until next time but your average female friendship is text all the time random 5 hour long calls seeing each other less than twice a week must be a punishment from the universe then ofc to a man that’s ode and to a woman men don’t do enough. but in reality all genders have both kinds of friendships (and more in between and outside of those ofc) men who have been socialized to be alone are certainly going to be more inclined to that more shallow kinda of friendship and women that have been socialized to be over dependent will be inclined to the way closer kind. those who heal will have a healthy amount of both and a balance that best suits themselves.

    I disagree so much on the friendships part. The friendships I have with other women/ppl are the most incredible beautiful fulfilling and safe relationships I’ve ever had. They literally keep me sane i think i would do as much as I possibly could for them. But I also understand it depends on the level and depth of the friendship. I’m just so obsessed with my friends honestly lol. The give & take is a real thing and I think it’s looks differently depending on the season, proximity, and commitment you have to keeping that person close to you.

    I think body count is useful to know only in so far as how they explain it. It helps me know how they conceptualize their sex life. Someone saying, 'it's this, and I think that's because I stayed in bad relationships too long and honestly I wish it was higher' (so maybe now they just want fun) or 'it's this, because I had fun in my twenties, and I think I got a lot out of my system' (so maybe looking for marriage now) is useful context. But making assumptions just off the number I think is usually silly.

    The getting home safe text thing, in my opinion, depends. Dating as I do it, is a formed exclusive relationship. So the man I’m exclusive with, I expect certain things out off and least of it, getting home safe text. However, dating people do these days is just going out and getting to know one another and I feel I have less expectations when it comes to just getting to know someone. People may have a sexual relationship but not necessarily exclusive relationship and may expect certain things that do come with exclusivity. All in all not too serious if there was no exclusivity but I can see how she may feel used and not looked after.

    I feel like female friendships are less platonic than male friendship in general, just because as a society, women have been able to be more fluid with their sexuality. That's why they seem more high maintenance, because low key they're dating their friends. In my opinion its why when their friendships end, it looks like a couple breaking up rather than friends having a disagreement. It's also why I think women love saying men are "gay" for their homeboys.

    My take on the whole "he didn't check in that night" thing: I find the initial video unobjectionable. She does a good job of expressing and acknowledging her emotions without being consumed by them. The only mistake I think she makes is in asking random strangers on the Internet what they think. There's naught but pain and more confusion down that road...
    As for the Twitter response...I think the user has had a lot of very painful and traumatic experiences with men, and that is coloring her perception of this event. I'd point out that she said it's an example of men not caring about women when he literally did show that he cared, just later than he person making the video would have liked.
