    About Honest Tea Talk
    with Aliyah, LaYinka & Sumayah
Inspired by Jada Pinkett-Smith's 'Red Table Talk', 3 Muslim women have set up a platform to speak openly and honestly, giving viewers an unedited insight into the minds and life of Muslim women. Honest Tea Talk brings deep and often unspoken topics to the table to lay down our masks and start much-needed discussions about matters related to Muslim women and the ummah at large.

Lovley to see muslim women having real conversations and not just saying the correct things, in the correct manor to the correct crowd. It is so accurate the way you decscribe the comunity esp 10 years ago. I did not like living in the cult style judgmental environment that is 'practicing uk muslims'. I'm proud of each and everyone of you and apreciate you leading the way for those who are still trapped in a toxic mindset. What a wonderful community we would be if we truly embraced loving each other, helping and accepting each other.

I appreciate Na'ima bringing the context of how we got to where we are now. For those of us in the West it has been a rough ride. We bring SO MUCH with is when we enter Islam and instead of sisters celebrating the diversity and difference we want to clone and straight-jacket one another.
Inshaa Allah, here's to a new village that represents and celebrates the diversity and unity of sisterhood.

Salaam alaykum sisters, would u consider doing an episode on Idenity, and how that can be changed during the early years of being a revert and how to get it back and hold onto your uniqueness?
I honestly believe that every Muslim sister battles with Idenity, especially when they marry into different cultures as a new revert.
    Or how about episodes on:
-Black women marrying into Asian homes. 🙄 (Sisters need to be educated before it's too late).
-getting to know yourself and giving yourself time as a revert before getting married. Sometimes we marry the guy who has guided us to Islam, and we automatically trust him. Or sometimes we are told by the community that we have to get married just because its half of our deen, and we end up with a bad person, only hoping and praying that everuthing will work out. These are major issues.

    • @neelubird
      @neelubird Před 4 lety +1

walaykum salam, I think that's a good idea. I always advise new converts to avoid rushing into marriage and to first learn about Islam and what the Islamic rights and responsibilities are for men and women, husbands and wives before considering entering a relationship.

Loved this! I'm still holding out for my tribe, it can get really lonely feeling like you have no community or no "group" that is open to "letting you in". Unfortunately I've been burned by so many sisters it can be very discouraging and you just tend to isolate yourself (especially as a mum).

Kars, please know it’s not you. Unfortunately because of many of us not being aware of the mask wearing and the detriment of living ‘the fake’ the result is isolation. It’s impossible to have a deep connection with an imposter. I’m asking Allah to guide us on the path of true authenticity so that the umma will be lifted up, be strong and unified. Perhaps then we’ll stop loosing our children to the dunya because of the confusion we bring with all the fake games of the 90’s we’re still playing.. having the look, talk etc. Then we go home and our children hear, see and experience..I love my Muslim family, all of you for the sake of Allah. PLEASE let’s truly embrace one another like the family we truly are, as we are and support each other to better, inshallah.

Sometimes that has been overt too. I used to attend a masjid where the leadership decided to ban non hijabi women from participating on or volunteering with the interfaith outreach committee. And they meant women who choose to not wear hijab outside the masjid because pretty much all the women were wearing it inside the masjid. They didn't want non Muslims to think women had a choice about wearing hijab or not according to Islamic teaching. I strongly disagreed with this.

I think one of the greatest things we can ever do as women, is to uplift other women. Our sisters. Instead of looking at other people's blessings, we have to understand the honor that we have been given as well as celbrate the honor and blessings that other women amongst us have been given. This is how we empower our women. This is how we empower ourselves.

As someone who hasn’t grown up with the sphere of support around me, a sisterhood is something that I have yearned for a while.
As I become increasingly aware of myself psychologically, emotionally and spiritually, I try to build wholesome and fulfilling friendships especially with my Muslim sisters.
Even though everybody may not have the same intentions, I strive to be supportive and sympathetic to almost signal to them that I am open for a friendship.
I am yet to build this sisterhood but as Sumayah said, I will keep holding out and InShaAllah, one day I will be surrounded with them.💝

I more of a south of France person 😆 i really do looove sun ! Paris is a really beautiful city but it is soooo expensive, and its stressful a bit. You have Lyon also, I heard there was a big muslim community there, and a good vibe too. Montpellier is a student city I don't know if it means something in english, but its really great, you have the beach near by and people are really openminded ! And then I could present to you Marseille, well its great but it is really poor type of city... I heard about how Lille was great but it is in the North so not the same weather (more like the london type of weather) !! I lived in London for the first 5 years of my life, and for the muslims I do think its better (you dont find easily a job with the hijab in France...). ASA sisters, your conversations are so healing for the ummah. Unfortunately many of our communities , all over the world, are still behaving like that of the 90’s. Wearing the masks, concerned with the look, talk etc. so pious we bearly salaam each other, especially if we don’t socially know one another. What the heck is that ? Please have this sister back on again. Her honesty and frankness is so needed. Also We need to hear more about functional resolutions we can actually put into play within our communities NOW. We’re loosing our children with all this fake ness and pretending we’re holier then thou and pretending and presenting in public like everything is hunky dory behind closed doors within our beings and families because we’re Muslim. We hurt and are angry etc because... you name it and those emotions definitely need acknowledgment and healing. Please continue to talk more about the how around resolving these concerns. Also, PLEASE incorporate brothers into the conversation more like you did with the Imam. For the most part, we’re craving a true healing so that our communities are authentically wiser, stronger and whole. May Allah continue to bless you all and give you the courage and ease to truly feed and nurture the ummah. Ameen

SubhanAllah from 15.00 and onwards u are talking about the revert sisters that I know. Its so sad, but alhamduillah this is being addressed publicly! They make u feel so uncomfortable because of their own insecurities, when it's them that need help or are dealing with a bag of issues inside of their homes... Making u feel like you are the odd one out, when really and truly we are the ones who know how to manage our personal issues and balance things in life.

Mashallah i was waiting for this episode. I think Aliyah summed it up well for me ultimately sisters supporting one another is about uplifting one another with good words and advice to make one stronger. It's about delivery a postive message and inspiring one another. Most importantly its about not judging one another . And just seeing the human side of women because often we are each others worst eniemies by being quick to judge. Just allow women to be women without the fear of judgement

I really enjoyed the episode, we really don’t have enough good role models in the community so thankyou for empowering us all by inspiring us by just by having the show and also with talking openly about issues that affect us all alhumdulillah!
We do without a doubt live in a very male dominated environment , we have more barriers than most people to overcome but so did people before us like the early muslims, well known activists, game changers, may it make us stronger ameen. We also should definitely give other sisters more love and opportunities, we should be the freind we would want for ourselves.
Jzk for all your hard work and effort sisters x

yes i agree with u, i sincerely think that should be addressed,i learn in a school of mixed races bt i tend to have christian friends because of the way muslim girls behave with each other, it is really upsetting bt i love them for the sake of Allah ,and sister the best thing you can do is say no and confront them , thank you

We need to take all the shame from the community then we can all come together instead of judging I think this is the main issue if we all had surported each other we can encourage each other ❤️💚💜
