    About Honest Tea Talk
    with Aliyah, LaYinka & Sumayah
Inspired by Jada Pinkett-Smith's 'Red Table Talk', 3 Muslim women have set up a platform to speak openly and honestly, giving viewers an unedited insight into the minds and life of Muslim women. Honest Tea Talk brings deep and often unspoken topics to the table to lay down our masks and start much-needed discussions about matters related to Muslim women and the ummah at large.

As someone who is trying to revert in an unreceptive environment living at home with my parents because my disability does not allow my complete freedom of movement. Your talks are a haven for me and an ideal for me to strive to towards whilst learning about our religion Allah SWT and our blessed prophet Muhammed PUB. You are examples of sisters I always wanted but never had. Thank you for all you do for the Muslimah I may not be considered as a part of it yet but one day I hope I will be much love.

@@LaYinkaSanni Thank you for your support. I love my parents. They saved me. When I was in so much pain my blood pressure rose so high my doctors disregarded the fact that I was just 15 and pumped me full morphine (which I was allergic to) and all sorts of opiates just keep me numb; because they couldn't bear to see me in so much pain it was my parents who saved me. For nearly two years my mom stopped working and my dad retired because I didn't sleep for more than two hours each day. I was always curious even as a child I asked too many questions and I got my faith from my mom. However, I started losing it in the early years of my illness. Strangely two years ago I just started looking into Islam I don't why. I just did and then I started falling in love with it. I don’t have a masjid or a mosque or even a friendly neighbourhood Muslim. I just have my self the lectures I see on the internet talks like these and Allah SWT (who is my greatest comfort and my greatest champion) but when I tell my parents that I respect their opinions and thank them for setting me on my journey to Allah SWT and they just… It almost breaks me. I love my parents, but Allah is my creator, their creator and the saviour for the world. Islam is my future I just want my parents' acceptance but they see Islam as evil and no matter what I say they don’t believe me which isolates me from them in the most important way.

Just would like to react what Layinka said about the sister who wore no hijab and still proved to be very much attached to Islam that many of us don’t have that liberty to wear the hijab and lead fulfilled active lives. In France; where I live, the equation is almost impossible. I know that some sisters started their own companies in order to keep hijab, but not everyone is an entrepreneur and it’s not the general spirit in this country anyway. So please bear in mind that we’re out here, bare headed, and strongly attached to our faith and passionate about Islam.

I think certain people get confused with the idea of perfecting ourselves and therefore expect this specific version of perfection. It’s like an instagram version of Islam in a way, like the way we see someone’s perfect home but not the pile of ironing in the corner, Islam perfects your character but never expects perfection. Khadijah herself was a very strong woman, there are so many examples in the qura’an of feminism but people take things the way they want to see it.

Islam is like between 2 valleys, a balance, theres corrupt structure like yudaism, or no structure like atheism, like how judeo marxists sweep tyranny over morally divided atheist china. crypto judeo paul made bible more atheistic with lawless man worship. its said ONeness of Lord = ONess of Man under a good functioning law of balance and empowerment and creativity on a strong foundation!

I just discovered your channel and I can't tell you how much I admire you ladies . This is what being a Muslim and a feminist means to me , being proud and adherent to your faith and at the same time not letting social norms stop you from having a voice, opinions and goals that you go after,. and not thinking that you have to imitate non Muslim women to do so, because the reality is Islam gave our rights and our values along time ago. There are a lot of shows out there hosted by non Muslim women and they discuss women issues and their points of view, and even though they are good and you can relate to certain things, but we needed this. I also think that the rest of the world needs to see this, for those who don't know any thing about us other than that we dress modestly, they need to know that Muslim women are also smart, beautiful and strong. And that Islam actually aims to lift us higher . Great job ladies . I pray that Allah gives you success in life and much more reward in Paradise ISA .

  • @athaar.a
    @athaar.a Před 4 lety +4

I too think it's about unhealed trauma - self-betrayal and disconnection from the self as a result of childhood trauma where one was taught that being yourself is not safe, because one's needs weren't met as a child, didn't feel seen or heard which led to the belief that 'something is wrong with me', because as children we can't come to the conclusion that it's the parents who are lacking, since we depend on them for our survival, we believe it's us that there's something wrong with, which leads to internalized shame. So maybe it's a projection/externalizing of resentment towards people who are being their authentic selves, not betraying their Self and speaking their truth? Maybe it can be a lesson to see what this brings up for us. Not intending to blame anyone here.

I like your comment and idea. Most if us were raised same way. Personally I happened to be one. It's very hard to realise your parents are lacking when you are young. But as you grow up and Allah makes you independent you get that intuitive and feeling ,some choose to nurture it and others shut it down then later on externalize/project it on others. rn am in the process of nurturing that intuitive making sure am not hurting my parents or anyone and insha Allah I got hope one day I will chance to travel abroad and meet this beautiful souls, have conversation with them.i enjoy their talk. It's part of my therapy. I always pray for them. May Allah S.W bless you forever.

Loved the episode mashallah! My only comment is that we as an ummah really NEED to sincerely FOCUS on improving our own selves. First and always starting with our relationship with Allah, cultivating and nourishing it daily. Also doing our part in bringing the ummah together by bringing our best selves to be real brothers and sisters aiding and uplifting each other. In my circle of sisters we are always talking about these issues you alk have addressed publicly and it's right about time that it got out of our living rooms and kitchens and phones to a place where we could come and tackle these issues. First step is awareness.

Asalam Aleikum, i agree with you, i mentioned that in my notes.
7,00 Jazak Allahu Khayr, Islam has given what we need and balance, Look at Prophet Muhammad peace and blessings on him and Khadijah Radiyallahu anha!
8,30 - knowing how to disagree in Islam is good. bringing up 4 mathhabs, good point & even 4 mathhabs were salafi - Read Sheikh Albani's Book Prophets's prayer as you see him, he collected their quotes on how they are the means to the Sunnah and follow any hadith they may have missed on a topic that they may have missed as long as its in the right context.
11,20 - unhealed stuff due to bidah, we can refer to the Sunnah, when you follow an imam without a link to the sunnah we divide! if its not haram or normalizing haram and in right context why oppose it i guess.
13,30 Live the same in the din but not the same in dunya i guess. Very good points, Din is for all times. example before ppl used wagons now we use cars. Mother/Sisters before were scholars too, Aisha Radiyallahu anha, teachers of ibn Taymiyyah!
I would say same method but different (material) means INsha Allah is what you meant.
23,20 - yes extremism can push ppl away from the din same way too much differeing can weaken and push away (don't be too strong or weak i guess good deed is like being between 2 valleys), AS long as their Aqidah and Manhaj is strengthened it can help them in these fiqh issues! As long as someone isn't mis repping the din, we should recall Mother Aisha Radiyallahu anha said if the first thing that came down was don't do zina or not drink the ppl wouldn't leave their sins but the first thing was the call to Tawhid and judhement day to soften hearts!
25,20 - good points, i agree! Its too bad some mess up in the base as well! Make duah the way of saved sect prevails even more!
26,00 - First disagreement, Remember Adam Alehas Salam is Muslim,
WE are humans and Muslim first at the same time, we are born innocent & on fitrah and the hadith says all children of Adam make mistakes so I get what you are saying on the second point not first though! And yes Ibn Qayyum said a sin can make someone remember Allah, not a justification of course.
      27,30 Masha Allah...
28,40 - Humility, good, me too. good points on not seeing the past and future.
Islam is compassion (& strength) , yes.
Humility before Allah is most important!
Jazak Allahu Khayr, May Allah give us beneficial knowledge good provisions and accepted actions and give us death upon Iman and life on aiding and following Manhaj salaf! Amin!

I truly feel like I’m sitting with you sisters over tea. When I first came across the channel, I wasn’t an in-tune...but I believe it had a lot to do with going through my iddah at the time and not being in the space where I was ready for everything being shared...but now, a year later...here I am working from home and I thought to start watching from season 1. I watched the whole season in one day while working. I am so grateful to Allah for all of you for these more-than-needed conversations. Jazakhallah wa Barakallah.
