Windows development when it used to be codename systems instead of continuous updates is really fun.
Also longhorn had a really interesting dev process, mainly due to the bugs that came from that development. When they did the reset they used the Server 2003 code as a base instead of XP

It doesn't matter, That "unreleased" Windows version you install is actually Beta release of that said Version.
Betawiki is a good source if you want to know about prerelease version of OSes. (I would like to know that you have to set the VMware hardware compatibility to the older version of it to getting of these Beta OSes work.)

Longhorn was probably one of my favorite betas, despite it being buggy it is beautiful and I wish the design scheme was still around to this day.
Man! I remember Windows NT, Windows 93, Windows 95, Windows 2000s, ME, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1.
You forgot to test a windows 11 leaked version, almost 2 years before windows 11 came out! I remember installing it on real hardware

These are prerelease versions of Windows. Just press Win R to open the run dailoge 1:59 Your copy is probably modified, becouse Windows 2000's shutdown sound is supposed to play 3:23 You need to add them first 4:40 The project got reset 4:54 The same 6:00 Blackcomb (later Vienna) was completly reset in 2007. 9:30 The leaker named it Windows 9. The name was just "Windows Technical Preview" as they did not decide the name yet
Blackcomb was actually cancelled, so saying Blackcomb is Windows 7 is a big misconception. Officially Windows 7's codename is... Windows 7 (In reference of Vista Kernel number (6) + 1).

Windows longhorn is the prerelease codename of Windows Vista. It had a few differences with windows vista (like sounds, wallpapers, etc) but otherwise were the same

I don’t remember whether it was Neptune or Odyssey, but I remember installing the beta builds for whatever reason, I don’t know if it was Neptune or Odyssey it kept giving me the blue screen of death I don’t remember, but I’ll have to check it out

If you tried Longhorn Build 5219 in vmware workstation 10 by installing proper drivers and doing a registry edit you can enable aero it's not perfect but it get's the job done you shouldn't have picked build 5219 that's a very unstable build
Me.and my buddies acctually installed longhorn on our own computers back in 2003. I was in grade 10 . We all got it off of kazaa lol. Pretty sure it was the black background build .

Fun fact: I had a nightmare about me using the windows longhorn in the middle of the night and installing cracked Among Us and when I tried to open it the whole system crashed and then it was on the BSOD screen and the windows longhorn sign appeared and it's horn started twisting around me.

Windows 10 does have some aspects off aero, as in the transparency, This actually can be seen the most in the settings app.
but that's fluent design. Also aero is still internal default theme name as of Windows 11

Instead of longhorn build 4051 you should have tried build 4074, but there were with newer more simmilar to aero design and with more simmilar to build 4051 but even tho you could have the older 4074 build it will be more stable and you could be able to look at the leaves wallpaper and some other cool things.
Can try out Windows 10X, which is technically what in turns becomes Windows 11
Most of the problems with Windows releases and installation were the drivers, and Microsoft doesn't write drivers; the hardware manufacturers do.
I really liked Vista when everyone finally had it together. The layout and look were easy on the eye and easy to navigate as well.

9:44 Aero did not exist in Windows 8/8.1, and this taskbar is not Aero. Its just transparent. final Windows 10's taskbar transparency has a way better "blur" effect that looks similar to Aero but is called Acrylic.

Uhm I think you got confused with Windows Blackcomb. Blackcomb was in development in 2000 and was supposed to release around mid-2002 and it was to release a few months after XP. It is technically XP’s sister and there was also a version for home,business,pro and a server version but Longhorn had messed up development causing Blackcomb to go wrong way in development and it faced so many challenges all because of Vista’s development. In 2006 it got renamed to Vienna and it was a minor update to Vista although in 2007 it was cancelled and eventually turned into Windows 7, so many people had got mixed up but Windows 7 was just Windows 7 as always. I even thought it back then when I joined the Windows community so it’s ok it’s no one’s fault😂. Also could you please try these builds for me: Neptune build 5111, Windows 11 build 26063, Windows 2000 build 2000.3, XP build 2428 or 2463 and lastly Windows Server 2008 build 5757. Sorry for long comment tho T-T

NT 5.0 Build 1877
Memphis Build 1511 (change the bios date to February 19 1996)
Neptune Build 5111 (there was only one build)
And Chicago Build 0.99 (change date to April 5 1994)

Windows 7 used to be Blackcomb, but Microsoft scrapped it because of Windows Longhorn, as more and more features got ported into it.
In addition to this, Blackcomb was later replaced with Vienna, but it also got reset in 2007. The codename of Windows 7 is just the name itself, according to Build 6469, the earliest leaked build of Windows 7, which said the codename "Windows 7."
Windows Longhorn also got reset because of instability messes. Starting with build 5001, everything was (almost) the same as Windows XP, until build 5048 where things significantly changed.

Windows XP is still the best windows operating system ❤ it’s the one I used the longest. The Whistler build was very interesting to see, it looks nothing like XP but has some features. I used Windows 2000 too so yeah I agree Whistler looked a little like it 😂 (windows ME was not my fave, same with Vista).
Windows 7 full release Aero Glass was peak windows, IDGAF. XP was great but aged poorly aesthetically speaking (it definitely looks like an early 2000s product) and op top of that, no common/super viable 64 bit version. I would deadass use 7 today if it got security updates, program compatibility, and had the same game performance as 10. No clusterfuck mix of UX designs, no spyware, easily removed bloatware. It was perfect.
If there's a win7 skin for Linux, that's what I'll be switching to when win10 bricks itself in a couple years or whatever. With the win98 startup and shutdown sounds and the winXP error sound.
