    I think that the biggest thing you're missing in this video is the fact that these small UI changes like bolding the font or positioning it in the middle vs the side of the action center, etc. actually contribute to making the UI more intuitive. It's usually the small things that don't seem to make a difference that really do make a difference.

    • @TheSimoc
      @TheSimoc Před rokem +4

      Yep. To make the UI more intuitive and beautifully harmonic, they should cancel all those thousands of stupid small changes they have been making after XP. XP was the pinnacle of polished UI, and all versions after it have been worse than anything before, and becoming gradually worse with each release since 7. Not to even mention the bad usability and horrible bloat.

    What was a little frustrating is because of the VM graphics limitations you can’t see the full effect of the Fluent Design system, 2015 was using Modern Design (Basically a more toned down Metro UI).
    Fluent is super cool, you hover over stuff and it “floats”! Stuff also pops a bit more. A lot of the changes seen here are reflective of the work by Microsoft’s Design team. The annoying thing is a lot of people are like “Where is Fluent?”. Something like this makes Microsofts efforts at improving Windows’ UI more apparent.

      That’s just what collapsed responsive menus look like in Microsoft’s UX. Most apps with a horizontal navbar will do it. I’d say a better example of inconsistency is file explorer, the run menu and everything else written as a UWP app. Little Waffles is right but really shouldn’t be that abrasive. HAL updates/device driver communication changes, SSD optimisations, update delivery changes, closer powershell integration, linux subsystem. Run as, grouped start menu icons, Windows Snipit improved, Battery optimisation changes, power management changes, tighter windows defender integration, requires Antivirus (significantly harder to disable). Xbox Gamebar overlay. Video driver changes and support for DX12a. Change to the audio engine system. Network Stack changes. Native video editor app, HEIC photo support. Granular control over privacy (briefly touched on in this video). Emojis! Loads more features within overlays. Windows Indexer changes windows search engine changes. PIN logins instead of passwords. Auto pilot/MDM and endpoint management. Clipboard history (Win+V).
    Basically a lot wasn't covered that people dont usually care about but keeps them safe, improves stability/security. There are tons of new features that would take too long to list.
    I must stress don't be lulled into the romantic nature of newer is better, always stay one version of Windows behind if you want your devices to function and don't want to lose either your documents or access to your computer, every major update there is a major issue.

    • @joker345172
      @joker345172 Před 3 lety +1

      90% of what you described is not even a feature, mate.
      "SSD optimizations", "Battery optimization", "power management changes", "xbox gamebar", "tighter windows defender integration", "requires anti virus", "driver communication changes". These are not even features, just small changes, and I dare say that all of them don't change anything for the better. Windows continues to be a sluggish and slow OS that is still vulnerable, resource-inefficient and full of bugs. The search bar is still slow and can't find all files. There is no system-wide dark mode. Uninstalling programs still leaves junk files on your system. Windows still requires disk fragmentation to work properly. You can't disable cortana. You can't customize Windows without third-party applications, and not even them can customize a lot. You can't remove the taskbar. You can't uninstall the Edge browser. You can't update without risking losing your files. Windows still requires a reboot to apply updates. Installing programs is still slow. Uninstalling is even worse. A bunch of crap nobody wants is enabled by default. You can't get rid of adds on the menu. You can't uninstall microsoft cloud drive, and so on.... These are just things I remember now, but there are a bunch more!
      Sounds like you're trying to save face of microsoft and list a bunch of crap that didn't bring any substantial changes, because windows STILL has all problems that it has always had. As consumers, we want to see practical results, not meaningless words. Microsoft refuses to fix problems that windows has had for YEARS, and instead spends time and resources on things we don't want. Do you even know someone that wants emojis? a native video editor that doesn't have half the features of the adobe suite?? XBOX gamebar???
      And that not even considering what you even mean by things like "driver communication changes". Of course they need to update their drivers interface, otherwise they wouldn't support any hardware that launched after 2016. What substantial improvements has "windows indexer changes" brought us? When I use my windows partition, I still see 5-6GB of RAM usage on IDLE, when on my Linux partition I rarely reach 1.5GB of usage. And my hardware is top of the line! R5 3600XT + 16GB RAM 3000MHz
      The only 2 worthy features that windows has brought us was a more powerful powershell and WSL. And WSL was not even a thing created by Microsoft (it was created by Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu Linux), so microsoft has only brought us ONE meaningful update in 5 years, and it's not even a thing that the regular users want! Compare that to what MacOS and Linux developed in the last 5 years and you'll see why Windows is a sinking ship!

    • @kye3k1
      @kye3k1 Před 3 lety

      joker345172 you obviously aren't a sysadmin. Try to remember, Windows is aimed at business first and consumers second. I never even said these were all improvements. Heck I even advised people not to upgrade their PC straight away.
      Windows 1909 compared to Windows 1507 is orders of magnitude better. There is still a long way to go but I'd go as far to say Windows is the best it has ever been.

      "Windows 1909 is orders of magnitude better than 1507" man, it's the same thing. The boot times are still slow, the improvements™ that MS says they brought us didn't bring any substantial changes. You can see this by yourself on the video. Ignoring aesthetics, here was NO noticeable difference between the 2015 and 2020 versions.
      I've been using windows 10 on various devices since it launched on 2015, and I can confidently say that I have NEVER seen a update that improves the user experience
      Performance has been the same since 2015. Curiously, I also have been running Linux since 2017, and in 3 years of linux I've seen more changes and improvements than in the entire 5 years that I used windows 10. Microsoft doesn't have a clue on how to upgrade their OS, and every windows user know it. We have been dealing with the same problems since the dawn of time, and microsoft still haven't solved any of them.
      You can drop the act. Windows is the same as it's ever been, and all issues I brought up in the previous reply are things that have existed since the XP and Vista era.
      And no, windows is not aimed at "businesses first". That is a lie. Windows Server is aimed at businesses, but not windows. And these 2 are completely different products

    1507 did in fact feel very incomplete, there were so many duplicate menus between legacy and UWP.

      yea, but even with that, the early version of windows 10 can probably feel much faster than the latest version we have now, through its depends on hardware, but however, 8.1 is still faster due to tablet optimization, windows 10 is very close to 8.1 speed as long its was debloated.

      Now feature updates are not 3GB they are less than 300mb and gets installed just like security patches. Since then They made lot of improvement under the hood.

      @@pikachu5647 no they are not anymore. I have installed the lastest version and it was just like any other commutative update and version changed. It was showing Feature update to 20H1 but it was just ~300MB. Recently joined insider preview beta to get the 20H2 same thing again ~300MB update. Start menu design etc small changes were all there after restart it merely too 10 minutes to install and updated to 20H2
