I went into this one expecting a Canes loss. But this was a pleasant surprise. Their shots on net seemed more controlled rather than just scattershot. And I'm happy they not only limited their penalties but finally scored on the PP
To be fair they mentioned Igor's streak more this series than they had our powerplay not scoring. And we all know how they mentioned that every 2 minutes
I’m just happy the rangers made it close going down 2-0 and then 3-1 in Rahleigh, GG hurricanes. I’m just happy to see Lafrenière ball out in the playoffs

As someone without a dog in this race I'm very glad for the fans and organization that the Canes won at least one game. They surely earned it. Every game has been so very close.

As a die hard hurricanes fan, and one who is not generally superstitious, I had lost hope and resigned myself to betting on the Ranger's this game.

Figured the Canes would win. Who else saw about a dozen articles crop up recently about the Rangers possibly sweeping the Playoffs? Give me a break; they’re a great team but frankly I’m shocked Carolina took this long to win their first in this series.

As a rangers fan they deserved this one. Canes played like a team with nothing to lose and that powerplay goal was due. We'll be fine and I'm still confident we can win game 5. Fair play to them LGFR

@@20thCenturyManTrad well, each of the games to date has been a 1-goal game. The canes in general have dominated each game 5-on-5. Game 3, they got the PK to work and they finally got a PP goal. If they can keep it going, it’s a whole new series

Ranger fan here. Went to the game. Was a crazy game. But hey 1994 rangers went 7-1 so maybe. But on a real note canes played great! Good to see they got a power play goal
You and like 2500 others lol. I’m always surprised how many NYR fans come to these games.
As I recall 1992, the Hawks two sweep rounds meant they were sitting on their hands for 10 days waiting for the other division to finish, so they were simply not ready to play when the finals started. Which is not to say the Pens werent talented, but they were coming off a sweep and firing on all cylinders while the hawks were dead cold.
That Pens team had 3 of the top 8 pts leaders in NHL history and 4 of the top 20, and 7 Hall of Famers, and that was AFTER trading Recchi/Coffee mid-season, otherwise it would have been 9 HOFers and 6 of the top 20 pts leaders in NHL history.
Oh, and they also had Scotty Bowman, the greatest coach in NHL history (other than maybe Toe Blake) behind the bench.
AND Jean-Claude Van Damme in net. They weren't losing that series.
That being said, I think Roenick belongs in the Hall, and the Grim Reaper is still one of my favorite Canes players of all time despite just the one season.

Freddy has let in a softy in each of his 3 games against NYR. I know Koochy's save percentage wasn't great but he played a much better game than Freddy has to this point - the team in front of him let him down in game 3. I wonder if Rod just doesn't think he's ready yet and doesn't want to hang him out on a limb.
0:32 not only did they mention that but as soon as the canes got their last PP (only one they cashed) the announcers repeatedly said how the canes haven’t scored a PP and the Rangers haven’t allowed one in 5 straight games or something… truly a brutal announcer jinx lol
As a Panthers fan I thought this would be a great series against 2 well balanced teams, and, I have not been disappointed. I thought Carolina was the little and I mean little better balanced team. Good luck to both teams, you’re both really good teams!!!

@@cellytv8063 The wild card Canes were eliminated by 3rd best in the league Bruins. Next season it was the President's Trophy Bruins. Season after that the Stanley Cup winning Lightning. Then without #1 goalie Andersen the whole playoffs and #2 goalie Raanta injured during Game 7 the Canes lost to the Rangers. Last season without arguably the team's second most important player Svechnikov they lost 4 straight 1-goal games, 2 in overtime, to a Florida team that was low in the standings from adjusting to a new coach's system after winning the President's trophy the season before and which is 5th in the league this season. Right now they are down to the President's Trophy winning Rangers. The issue isn't killer instinct.

I figured this series to go six games, so this tracks. And the Canes might actually steal a game at the Garden. In any case, I don't think the Canes or their fans have anything to hang their heads about. They've been in every game, all of them a one goal differential, and two of them to overtime. You can't really be any more evenly matched than this...The only "Doh!" moments (and they may actually make the difference in the series) are the three shorties they've gifted the Rangers...
New York has to win gane 5, or they are screwed. You never want a series to go to 6 after taking a stranglehold because that is where the doubt seeps in.

But the Rangers have been able to step on any type of momentum the Canes had very quickly and thats been the deciding factor so far. Canes are lucky they scored the winning goal with not much time remaining otherwise no doubt the game would've went to OT

Just saw an article about this year’s Playoffs and Lafreniere’s performance in them “helping to shed his bust tag.”
What a load of rubbish. He won’t even turn 23 until October, and has shown himself to be durable (missed four games in four seasons) isn’t a turnover machine, and scored as often in 2022-23 as PLD for LA this year (while still playing 3rd Line minutes)
Lafreniere’s only issue is being a superior talent on a team w/ a big share of super-talented veteran forwards. He was never close to being a “bust” just because he didn’t put up Draisaitl-ish stats immediately.
I mean, have folks forgotten about Kakko? Best to him going forward, but I’m surprised he wasn’t moved to San Jose or something this past year. Seemed to be turning a corner last year, but like Puljujarvi he took a step back this one.

Rangers fans are tripping if they think they're dominating. Capitals were utter trash and every game against the Canes has been a one goal game. I fully believe the Rangers are capable of going all the way, but some of y'all need to pump the brakes and eat humble pie. There is a long ways to go yet.

Washington was the worst team in the eastern playoffs and not surprising rags swept them! Again, not an accomplishment, they are nowhere near what they used to be! And based on their rivalry and how they did during season against them, isles would have been a tougher out for the rags! And using 30byrs ago is terrible example!

Once the Rangers comeback started and they tied it I figured yeah that's the series lmao but Carolina managed to take it in the end! I'm sure this'll just be the lone blip before they're gone in 5 or 6. They've played consistently well but consistently just that half step, and half step of luck, behind New York. Like I've said before, it must be so frustrating to be doing so much right but just be unable to get anywhere most of the time. Shesterkin is a huge reason for that. Tonight the Canes managed to have it pull their way and it was great to witness!

Trouba is not horrible show some respect to your captain. He is Rangers best d-man and that is not debatable leads the team in blocked shots and hits (was top 5 f,or both for the year)and in 3rd game there were 3 to 4 high danger situations that he broke up the play, so stop your silly whining.

Congrats to the Canes on avoiding the sweep. Honestly, I didn't want this series to end in a sweep. As good as the Rangers are and how cool starting 8-0 in the playoffs would've been; I would've felt bad if the Canes went the way of the Caps and got swept aside. Like Shannon said, I'm not sure if a reverse sweep could happen but you never know. In order to do that, Carolina can't stop here. They need a really good Games 5 and 6. Tonight proved this series isn't over by a long shot. Hopefully now, we can get the series we thought we were going to get all along.

Hey guys the canes finally showed up. A bit late.
2:45 so, I'm not that familiar with all the different tactics and strategies which go into hockey, I just simply enjoy watching the speed and physicality of the sport, but I keep hearing coming into the playoffs how weak the Rangers are in '5v5' yet in 2 series I don't see that. Instead, in '5v5' against Carolina, through 4 games now, it feels like the Rangers have an extra man on the ice offensively, defensively, and especially in transition.
To me, they completely outclass Carolina, and I picked Carolina to play Colorado in the Final. Their speed, and seemingly being able to cover every square yard of ice, interrupting passing lanes is insane. How again are they "so poor in 5v5 situations" again?
The Canes have outscored the Rangers 11-9 during 5 on 5 play and have outshot them every game. In games 2 and 3, the Rangers were outshot 104-64. That may not address the quality of the shots, but you do have to be in the offensive zone to get those shots.

i was expecting the Whalers to win this one, but for a little while there I was thinking we might just pull off the comeback. Fair play to the Whalers, they played really well and earned a gutsy win. Here's to hoping the Rangers close it out in MSG and get this round done.

The goalie worship this season has got to stop. Hellebuyck got exposed, Swayman had his butthole blown out twice, and now Igor's streak has been ended by the worst offensive team in the playoffs. Yes, these goalies are good, but stop putting them on a pedestal, it's cringe.
