  • The Jets have been a good story at times over the last 12 months, but there have been troubling signs the franchise is in trouble over that time as well.

      Talk of any team moving (Jets included) is just idle barking unless the ownership is unstable. And the Jets have some of the stablest ownership in the league that just bought in on two significant downtown developments. It'll take more than 1-2K empty seats a game to get the owner interested in selling.

      People will talk but winnipegers know there’s no need to worry any time soon. True North has invested way too much money in the surrounding areas to be able to afford to lose this team. Plus our owner is the richest person in Canada

      they wont move unless money is the reason. i also feel that arizonas ownership is the majority of the problem with that situation, as far as the nhl is concerned they just want the drama to be over.
      i dont think the jets are realistically moving anytime soon. but that depends on them making better decisions at better times than arizona did with their state.

      TNSE isn’t going to sell the team, large developments happening in the downtown core we are talking several billions. For the STH issues, TNSE had a policy where they needed people to sign on long term to show their longevity. However some shareholders couldn’t afford or moved and couldn’t satisfy the agreement that’s where you hear disgruntled fans. There is some issues TNSE has to figure out, from raising the the corporate STH to 30% from 15%. How to market to a blue collar town then a major city like Toronto and New York. We have a strong base, but it takes time with selling season tickets. People will go to games if a major game is on, compared to not as great teams (a lot of nhl teams are like that). In Winnipeg it’s about a deal. We like our deals. And the problem is people want to buy so they can go to the games they want and sell the rest. But when you play Columbus or San Jose, no one cares so those tickets will never sell if you are a STH. So STH don’t resign when they can get them on a third party app for cheap, and avoid the sunken cost. To them that’s a better deal. So TNSE needs to try to tackle the games the fans don’t want to see. TNSE needs to say this is a game (Columbus) not to miss with some whacky promotion. Whereas selling tickets to wild, the leafs, Montreal game won’t be a problem. The real problem will come when mark chipman dies. Will the org be strong enough to continue? The real benefits for longevity in the city is our city is rapidly growing and the large developments hitting the core this summer and next. Overall I’m not worried, but don’t be surprised if we don’t sell out STH for the next couple of years.

      Another first round exit is not that great. Great regular season, but a piss-poor playoff where the team was exposed. Jets have a lot of nice players, but they don't have enough players that are built for the playoffs.

  • @pomerlain8924
    @pomerlain8924 Před 27 dny +5

    The Jets need more players that are built for the playoffs. Guys that can fire up the group. Far too many times, this team gets hit in the mouth, and they just fold. They get down 2-0 or 3-0, and their heads drop on the bench and there's no belief or confidence that they'll come back. Top teams fall behind, and they don't quit and keep fighting. Sometimes they come back, and when they don't, they still go out fighting.
    And also, which is similar to the Leafs, the Jets have an ownership group that like to be safe and not make brash moves. They reward loyalty and friendship instead of going by results. No matter how many people keep saying Chevy is a good GM, the fact of the matter is that the team has 3 playoff series wins in his 13 seasons as GM. Where else would that be considered acceptable? We've seen GMs that have won cups not last as long after a few bad years.
    And the Jets need a coach that will be able to roll four lines that can all provide offense. As it is, with this top 6 loaded up for offense and bottom 6 set more for defense, if the top 6 goes cold, then this team doesn't score. You look at teams that win the cup, and they're able to roll four lines that can provide offense.

    • @mercywilliams2698
      @mercywilliams2698 Před 27 dny +1

      This is so relevant. The management consistently puts together a talented roster and retains depth. Drafts well. But you are so right..they have not had a roster with players who have to win in postseason games. That certain edge. It can be a part of things..just need attention to that. Tampa did it by adding incisive role players. We know what Florida has done. Vegas likes quietly intense competitive players. Every viable team figures this out. Jets aren’t that far off.

    Morrissey needs some help. He’s one of the 10 best defenceman in the league, and on many nights he looks top 5. However it’s a major drop off after that on the Jets blue line.
    I like the look of all the youth they have coming up front. I realize sheiffele is coming off signing a recent long term extension, but if you’re really looking to change the feel in the locker room, and create cap space, then he’s the guy you gotta move.
    I also agree on Ehlers. He’s had flashes of short term brilliance over the course of his career, but the reality hasn’t really lived up to the hype for the most part. I think a change of scenery could be beneficial for both parties there. If you can move those two guys out, and bring a couple pieces back to shore up that D, and maybe a couple picks in return, it would be a smart move.
    Id like to see Winnipeg ice a younger team next year. A group that’s built around Connor, Hallebuyk and Morrissey. Maybe some real hope for the future, instead of continued mediocrity can get the fans excited again. Something just feels stale there. An injection of youth, and some different leaders in that room will be a long term benefit in my opinion.
    Look at what Dallas is doing right now. They’re rolling with 3, or 4 really young players, who are contributing for them nicely in the playoffs. All of whom they drafted well down the board, and, or got on the cheap from other teams that gave up on them too soon.
    You always gotta have a few guys on entry level deals contributing, if you hope to stay competitive in the cap era. That means you need to be able to find gems late in the first, or in the second round consistently. That’s what’s worked well for Dallas; and for a small market team, it’s imperative that the Jets keep drafting well, and playing their young guys.

    I'm with you until the last bit: I think the same thing happening in back to back playoffs reflects on the coach. I can't find the quote from after this year's playoffs, but he admitted not changing how his team played over the course of the series, and it showed in how his teams played. Once their opponent figured them out, they lost four straight in back to back years. You can win in the regular season with good players, but you need good coaching to win in the playoffs. I think was a fine coach, but their post-season failures are at least partially at Bowness's feet. It'll be interesting to see what a new coach can do because as you said, there's talent there.

    Jets’ problem is that they lack star players who can carry the game… They have just one, Helly in the net… Connor is a good goal scorer, but he needs supporting cast. Scheifele is a good second line center at best… Morrissey is very good D, but he isn’t like Makar who can carry the team if needed… Their first line is probably second line at best for most of the PO teams (apart from Boston I guess)… they are just an average player team with a all-stars goalie…
    I watched all their PO games, and they just couldn’t keep up with the Colorado’s talent… 🤷🏻‍♂️
    What they need to do? Well, they need to attract star players… get 1st line center, and a passer to play with Connor. Get a steady def-man. They will probably need to take a shot on some players who don’t perform well and try to turn their careers around… 🤷🏻‍♂️

Jets haven't been awful at drafting but not getting multiple picks in the top five really limits your chances of drafting superstar players.
