Is there a way to put a smaller exhaust turbine on a military whistler (Switzer) turbo? I'm trying to replicate the iconic sound but think it can only be done by using a smaller hot side for quicker spool up. With a 12 valve. It's got a T6 housing and with the low gearing and 465 cubic inches it spools on a deuce pretty well. But won't spool on my 5.9 until 2500 rpms. Wonder if that's something you might be able to help figure out? I'm running 4.10 gearing, a RTO-6610, air shift t case and 43 inch tires. Wondering if an HX35 or HX40 T4 might help it to spool off idle to 2500 rpms? If it's even possible?
Thanks for the info. You definitely know your turbos. For those of us that run HX52s on our Volvo D12s, can something be pieced together with HX55 parts? Can this be done without machining? Also, how do you think it will effect performance? Will ECU tuning and/or fueling changes be required? Thanks for the help...

Machine work is required on almost any worthwhile upgrade.
