    The length of interstate 5 in California just so happens to be 795 miles long between San ysidro and hornbrook California near the Oregon border. The northern end of interstate 5 is in Blaine Washington.

    California state route 91 as a freeway happens to be a 10 lane freeway in Corona where there is currently a flyover ramp being built to connect the eastbound 91 to northbound 71. The new flyover ramp will replace the current single lane connector but I would of preferred the flyover ramp being built to connect the southbound 71 to westbound 91 Instead of the east 91 to 71 north. Do you think the flyover ramp would of been better if it connected the southbound 71 to westbound 91.

      Just looking at the project page. The flyover for 91 E to 71 N makes logical sense in place of a loop. There does not appear to be a need for a full-on flyover for 71 S to 91 W. I still have not driven CA 71 yet, hopefully next time!

    Part of my weekly route between San Jose State University and my hometown Vallejo! I am currently a fourth year senior living on-campus! I honestly have a love-hate relationship with this freeway, luckily leaning into love. The love is the scenery and thrill of the drive, the hate being the traffic jams, ESPECIALLY AT/AROUND SUNOL OR WALNUT CREEK. But the 680 is my 2nd favorite freeway in the Bay, behind the 280 of course. I actually clinched both directions of the 680 multiple times already! Great video and great music!

    I often wonder, this is related to CA-178. The first part of the freeway portion is 6 lanes, but then, it drops to 4, only to raise back to 6 once it downgrades to an expressway. I often wonder, why is it done this way? I feel like it would make more sense for the entire freeway portion to be 6 lanes, then it will still be 6 once it reaches the expressway, and it will be a continuous 6 lanes.

      @rockersk08 Před 10 měsíci

      Yes, I believe the construction speed limit lingered when I visited. I have no problem with people going fast on the inside lanes, that is actually how it should be, hence why I was hugging the outside lane most of the time.

    Advice welcome. Motorcycle purchase planned in Sunnyvale. Returning to North Bay, Petaluma. Purchase will be on a Saturday. Motorcycle's a 650 parallel twin, 46 hp. (mediocre power) Is my 'safest' route back .. -- I-280/19th Ave./Golden Gate Bridge? Absent South Bay 20+ yrs. At that time, I-280 traffic volume markedly less than The 101, or, I-880.

    • @rockersk08
      @rockersk08 Před rokem

      I believe that is a safe bet. You also avoid the duplex Eastshore Freeway and a second bridge crossing (toll aside). Going through SF on 19th Avenue is probably easier on a motorcycle with lane splitting if traffic picks up.

    Something that I can't figure out. Does anyone know the answer to this? Why isn't SR 905 I-905? By the number, it seems like it's supposed to be I-905, but for some reason, isn't. Also, the same thing relating to SR 15. Why isn't it part of I-15?

    • @jayiifulbackup393
      @jayiifulbackup393 Před rokem

      SR-905 at one point was I-905 back in 2003. (you can look up more information about it). It was reverted back to SR-905 in 2004 I believe due to some funding issues (I am not sure though.) They most certainly can sign it as I-905, as it technically is interstate standard, though I don't see that happening any time soon. The first 6 miles of I-15 is signed as SR-15 as it isn't up to interstate standards. Most of it comes from the interchange with SR-94, as there are steep curves and apparently left lane exits are not interstate standard in California. The whole interchange design is outdated and isn't up to interstate standard. (They most certainly can sign it as an interstate between I-8 and I-805, though)

  • @jayiifulbackup393
    @jayiifulbackup393 Před rokem

    It is really interesting how the freeway at 13:49 turns into one lane, and even has a traffic light. This presumably is because there isn't many motorists on that section of CA-125, The I-8 flyover to CA-125 South has three lanes, which most likely means that CA-125 gets most of its traffic from I-8. It is obvious why they did this, but it feels kind of off having the freeway turn into one lane, especially since it is very uncommon, and to have a ramp meter. (I assume they are turned on during rush hour traffic). Something interesting that I wanted to point out, Good video through

    • @gosnooky
      @gosnooky Před 8 měsíci

      Those are remnants of an earlier time. SH-125 used to terminate at I-8 at a rather uneventful and awkward trumpet. As east county grew, the plans to expand the 125 north began in the late 80's. It would take lots of time to clear out rows of houses in La Mesa between Fletcher Parkway and Navajo Road, but the first construction was removing an apartment complex and family fun park on Fletcher Parkway to expand the 125 to a stub with a single loop exit to Fletcher Parkway/Amaya Drive. It remained like that for years during the eminent domain process - hence those traffic lights, as that was the de-facto entrance to the 125 south from Fletcher Parkway. I'd assume those lights are rarely, if ever used anymore (I don't live in the area anymore), but you know Caltrans, those lights will stay up forever. Maybe someone who lives in the area can say for sure.

    Yet another fantastic ride. Interesting factoid about the flyovers approaching 20:50. This was originally the eastern terminus of the ill-fated California SH-252, which would have connected to I-5 right at the SH-15 split. This would have sliced a wedge right between the Shelltown and Southcrest neighborhoods. A freeway revolt stopped the project from proceeding, but the flyovers were already built. Now it serves as the ramp to 43rd Street and ends rather sheepishly at a shopping center. Another revolt stopped the construction of SH-171 which would have decimated the connection between South Park and North Park by connecting downtown to the I-1805/SH-15 interchange. Like before, ramps were already built and were re-purposed as the ramp to Pershing Blvd through eastern Balboa Park. Thankfully, these ill-conceived projects that would have chopped distinctive San Diego neighborhoods apart were killed in the cradle.

    The 10 between L.A. and the Inland Empire sure is busy and wide like 8+ lanes. This portion of I-10 obviously replaces US 70/US 99. So, in your prefence, between L.A. County and the Inland Empire, which of the 4 freeways you rather use for most of the time? The 210, 10, 60 or 91? For me, I prefer to take the 91, even though it's the busiest and that wide, but thankfully, it has express toll lanes for FasTrak.

    • @rockersk08
      @rockersk08 Před rokem

      I follow it based on my lane, surrounding traffic and conditions. I have no problem following the limit exactly in the outside lane with no traffic. When I move to the inside lanes I do go faster, namely to pass cars. It also depends on the flow of traffic. Construction zones are the only place where I do not speed, unsafe and not worth a fine.

With the possibility of NHP lurking, is it worth risking a possible citation just to go 5 MPH faster and save maybe a few minutes typically? I think not.

    Here's my opinions on how wide this road should be in the areas it traverses through the Mojave Desert. Section between Hesperia and Barstow, be widened to 8 lanes minimum, as the section through Barstow itself. Once it leaves Barstow, it goes down to 6 lanes, with the mountainous sections being 8 lanes. This, is the perfect setup IMO.
