Avoid the opposite: credit cards, where others compound interest at your expense. Pay off credit cards at the end of every month, to build credit; if you don’t have the discipline to pay them off at the end of every month, then cut up the cards and close the accounts! If you want to invest and spend money for fun, then give yourself a monthly allowance based on how much you have invested. 🙂

When I was ages 27 to 32 I used to hang around someone from the high school we attended I had to cut her off because soon enough I found out she's an alcoholic and later on into hanging around her I figured out that she was trying to convert me into one I tried to be patient with her trying to see if she could change but she didn't and the final blow was when I was having a conversation with her about how in the 01 playoffs against Philadelphia I seen Tie Domi involved in a penalty box fight I have epilepsy and someone else with epilepsy thought she could but into my conversation trying to tell me I don't know a thing about Tie Domi since I don't know him personally no matter how much I argued my point about watching all 82 games every year she wouldn't have any of it and the alcoholic who was my friend refused to stand up for me so I cut her off that day and the only time I ever went back was to collect my stuff

So the checklist these days seems to have grown very long indeed. Chin up fellas, be yourself and support one-another. That’s the priority.

As one of the (probably) younger people here(18 years old), these things are just as essential to be aware of in late teenage years as in your 20’s. A lot of this stuff can be prevented with discipline

Damn! It's so hard to take when someone rejects you and make you feel unwanted! I know it's not her fault, but I went 100% when I asked her. It's not that I am madly crazy in love with her, but our long-term "awkward" friends relationship somehow made me attached to her. I could just not imagine doing the same stuff (wholesome) with other girls, so I made sure to ask her first. But man, when she said No (with long reasoning), it felt like something heavy struck me in the stomach!

I would also classify "hard to get" as emotionally immature as well, it's a mild form of psychological abuse that is often used by women who have been abused in some way.

I think my biggest mistake was not trying to date b/c I was always flat broke, or so busy with school. Now that I'm in my 40's I have a pretty good job, and no idea how to start a relationship.

I'm now 49 and pretty much lived my 20s and 30s doing all these ill-advised things you have mentioned. What I want to say is that it doesn't have to be detrimental to the rest of your life. What's done is done. I did get a Bachelor of Science degree in my 20s, graduated from a trade school in my 30s, all the while hanging out with people who didn't really benefit me, drinking way too much and even got into trouble with the law a couple of times. At one point I had simply gotten tired of the same people and the stagnant life. I got it together and went back to school so I could get into medicine. I graduated from that program in my 40s and am also a licensed radiation worker. I don't drink or do drugs anymore and life has become so much better and interesting that I just don't have the desire. I have much higher quality friends and associates that benefit my interests just as I benefit theirs. I live in much nicer place than I've ever lived before and drive a nicer, newer car than before. Everything has changed. And it's great. I have a career and a trade and people whom we have mutual admiration and friendship. This is great advice that would benefit anyone in their 20s. But for anyone who is already through their 20s and pissed it away partying and screwing around not even considering the consequences, you CAN get it straightened out and live a really fantastic life. Whatever it takes to get out of your previous habits, and whatever it takes to form new ones is worth it, and you won't even think of your 20s because your 30s, 40s, and beyond will be so interesting and productive that it just won't be relevant.
