      Hey there John and thanks for following along and for the question. So for Mexico and Central America we used the iOverlander app to get ideas as well as just talking with locals. Also, there are times we just get lucky and find a campground or we just wild camp. Hope this helps, but if you have any other questions please feel free to ask. Take care and happy cycling! ~Ron & Petra

    • @PedalPowerTouring
      @PedalPowerTouring Před měsícem

      Hello Abba and thank you for the question. As a back up device we always travel with a Garmin e-Trex series GPS loaded with the maps of our location. Now with the invention of Smart Phones, we have been using more mapping apps such as Maps.me, Komoot, offline Google Maps, MapOut (iPhone only), and while not related to maps, we do like iOverlander for scouting out locations to camp, get water, border crossing information, and other stuff related to traveling. We may have missed something but if you go back to some of our newest videos and look under the "Description" we have added some useful information. Also, we rely heavily on getting information from the locals. Take care and happy cycling! ~Ron & Petra

The worst bridge we've ever crossed was the Astoria bridge connecting Washington and Oregon! We've cycled in some crazy places over the years, but that 4 1/2 mile Astoria bridge was stressful! hello and thank you Simonibb. So we left Puebla and headed towards Orizaba. Leaving Orizaba we are on 150 and take a right on "Carr A Valle de Tuxpango" towards Naranjal to Coetzala, to Cuapichapan, and then this is where we end up on rough dirt roads and into the sugar cane fields cycling to Tierra Blanca. Sorry we can't remember the exact route because this is where things get wonky, but I will check with my GPS and see if I saved the route. If so I will let you know and can email you with it. After Tierra Blanca we cycle to Loma Bonita, Minatitlán, Villahermosa, Palenque, and then on to Guatemala. Here is a link to our blog which talks more about this route and our experiences. pedalpowertouring.com/world-cycle-tour-blog/mexico/cycling-from-puebla-to-terra-blanca/ Enjoy Mexico and don't rush through. We spent over 4 months cycling through and loved it. Take care ~Ron & Petra

    I live in Central Florida….I’ve been doing short trips to Tomoka state park….I want to explore all of Florida but I’m nervous about wild camping in Florida….how do you find those spots you find?

    • @PedalPowerTouring
      @PedalPowerTouring Před 4 měsíci

      Hey there Wendy! We just learned where some of these spots are from exploring, but we also take advantage of the Florida Public Lands and Forest. Take a look at SWFWMD (Southwest Florida Water Management District) and other Florida Wildlife Management areas. Many of these places offer free camping, but you need to email (reserve) with them. If you would like shoot us an email at pedalpowertouring@gmail.com and we can get you some more information. Take care ~Ron & Petra

    Actually, the Gates drive system is fantastic for rough expedition cycling. If his broke after only 200 miles of cycling, then it was either defective (not really likely IMO) or not set up correctly (more likely). My old belt had teeth (ridges?) that were almost coming loose, but it was still working before I finally noticed the teeth flapping and changed it. After this long I also changed out the chainring and rear sprocket as they were worn down to where they resembled knife blades. Still, you'll use four chains and at least one change of chainrings / rear cassette in 25k km. I know other world cyclists using Gates / Rohloff or Pinion and have never heard of a problem like your brother experienced.

      Hey there Charles. Appreciate the feedback and for watching the video. Yeah not sure what to say other than you can see his belt broke and thankfully he had a spare. I don't know if he had it adjusted wrong or not. He rode it some back home on smooth surfaces and did not have any issues until he started picking up the little rocks and mud on the Dalton. I personally will never use one for global tour, but this is just me. We can find a chain in the remotest of places and it's never been an issue for us. Happy cycling and safe travels. ~Ron

      @@PedalPowerTouring Sorry you feel that way regarding using a belt drive. They are practically indestructible, extremely light (for carrying a spare), and very easy to maintain. I know of quite a number of cycle tourists that have used belt drives for many years, under conditions every bit as hard as the Dalton Highway, with little-to-no maintenance issues.

      @@charlesdgrinstead2114 it's all good and I am not anti-belt at all, but I just don't think I could trust it after seeing what happened to my brother's. We had our Pangeas built to accept the carbon belt, but we just never used one. So far after 43 countries and 17 US States our chains have worked just fine.

    I had an early Nallo 2. My wife asked if it was a good Idea buying a use tent, and I said it's only been used 31 times, which only drew a blank stare. I told her "It's a Hilleberg and they don't fall apart". The early model didn't have a rear vent window or a rear zipper in the fly. The only weakness I've found is the inner tent suspension elastics losing their elasticity. I wonder if they will address that some day? Thanks for the field use report. Very valuable information.

      Hey there Algentry! Thank you for the comment and feedback on your Nallo. Yeah the inner tent elastic does wear out over time for sure, otherwise, great tent and still probably our favorite for bike touring. Take care and happy adventures. ~Ron& Petra

      Hello Kamil! Many thanks for following along. Sadly I/we have been working on Costa Rica and Panama for months now. The first 8 minutes or so of the video is just sitting there and waiting to be finished. I guess we hit a wall and lost our motivation along with other priorities that got in our way. However, yesterday we cracked opened Adobe Premiere and started working on it again. With any luck, this coming weekend Costa Rica and Panama will be up. Thanks again and take care! ~Ron & Petra

      That sucks Mark! Sorry to hear this. When we were cycling through southern California, some of the places we camped at, the Campground host or the Ranger warned us to put everything in our tent at night because there have been others that had gear stolen at night. Sucks for sure and hopefully you can get another one soon. Take care ~Ron
