Cleaning The BMW E46 Interior on a budget
zhlédnutí 777Před dnem
Today we give the interior of the budget E46 BMW a clean and freshen up. I mostly utilised cleaning products which I had lying around. The items I had to buy, I took the opportunity to purchase them when they were on sale 25% off. Some can be diluted to go much further. Some of the items I used may not be the cheapest but gave the best results and protection moving forward. If you are wanting t...

    Had the same issue on mine, passenger door one was completely cut up and whoever did it didn't even bother taping it up. Just went to Pick-A-Part on Friday and figured I'd be save and get all 4. Only charged me $5 for the whole set. There's plenty of cars there where the door cards have never been off so easy to find vapour barriers in perfect condition. I took my time with a plastic pick tool peeling off all the butyl from the door and leaving it attached to the barrier so I could reuse as much of it as possible. Have only redone one so far, using a heat gun to make the butyl soft and sticky as I went along, seems to have made a perfect seal. I've no idea where to get new butyl tape but reusing the old stuff with a heat gun looks to work great still.

      Thanks for following the channel, that’s great to hear! More videos to come on the M5 in the future 👍 Yes, I’d do the clutch in my driveway on axle stands. You need a decent set of large axle stands so it’s stable and gives you enough room to get the gearbox out from under the car- it’s a big gearbox. A transmission Jack would help too

Car still shifts and drives fine and never stumbles but, these codes pop up randomly. Scratching my head for sure. Any ideas?

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy Před 8 dny

      I would get the codes read with a proper BMW code reader, that’s a generic OBD II code. It looks like it could be a wiring issue to a shift solenoid. I would get the codes read as above, and consider rechecking the shift wiring harness

I had a dig at a BMW salesperson about 10 years ago at a car show. The local dealership were there with several cars on display and most of them (although not M cars) were littered with M badges. I told him that I thought BMW were doing a disservice to the M heritage. He wasn’t pleased at all by what I said but I could tell that he knew I was right. I’m having high idle issues! When the engine is warm. This seems to have happened after I replaced the battery! Changed from 110ah flooded to 92ah AGM and coded accordingly and then registered new battery! It sits idles for a minute or 2 and then raises, this must be DME triggered! Idle is stable not fluctuating, water temps seem stable as well (they don’t start to rise before high idle is activated) battery voltage seems stable as well! I have also tried reseting adaptations, but doesn’t seem to make any difference. I’ve reinstalled old battery recoded back and makes no difference! Could this be to do with IBS learning new battery! I’m annoyed because she was running so nicely before! I buy her a gift and now she seems pissed off with me 😂 charcoal canister, purge valves, temp sensor, thermostat all relatively new. No related codes! Any suggestions on what/how to test? Thanks

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy Před 18 dny

      It’ll be the car trying to warm up the cats (emissions related) It is normal for the RPM’s to rise to approx. 900 at times, up to a certain extent, even after you’ve been driving a while. Battery shouldn’t have an effect on it (probably just coincidence) battery AH won’t have an affect, and it sounds like you’ve programmed it right anyhow. If there’s no codes for anything emissions related and the high idle is 900rpm or less, and it only does it for short periods, I wouldn’t worry too much. I found changing the spark plugs in mine helped, but it still does it from time to time

    • @duncsm5662
      @duncsm5662 Před 17 dny

      @@MTechGuy Thanks, I’m not convinced it’s cat warming related! It’s doing it every time it idles for a few minutes once warm and it doesn’t settle back down again. its not quite idling as low rpm as it was previously and it doesn’t sound as purring either, you know when it about to jump up to 980 rpm as-well you can hear a change. I’m sure something is a miss with it! I’m just not sure what it is yet.

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy Před 17 dny

      @@duncsm5662 Yes, with the cat warming it will settle down shortly afterwards when driving for a few more minutes. Maybe the adaptions got reset with the battery change/your adaption reset? I would scan for any codes, and give the adaptions a fair chance to adjust, see if it changes anything. If your spark plugs haven’t been done in a while, consider changing them, it did resolve my high idle issue, the ionic modules are very sensitive reading the spark plugs operation. Mine still does it from time to time, after driving approx. 10 mins, but it does settle down shortly afterwards (cat warming)

    • @duncsm5662
      @duncsm5662 Před 17 dny

      @@MTechGuy Thanks I will give it a while to settle down, It does Settle as soon as you drive or blip the throttle to over 4k rpm and then returns after 3 mins back to high idle. when I have had high idle in the past normally it settles after adaptations reset then comes back after a few hundred miles! This time it came straight back as soon as engine warm! Sparks changed around 6k ago! So they should be good, I’m thinking possibly a coil starting to degrade. I’ll keep monitoring and see. 👍

    Can I add it may help you you are doing videos that have been done over and over again on CZcams hence why they don’t do aswell as you would like. With CZcams you have to think out the box and be different and stand out the average person isn’t going to just search how to fix this unless they have that issue also as for ad revenue can I ask maybe you can tell us all how are all these small CZcamsrs and even big CZcamsr affording garages with lifts all these hyper cars on the channels all the time and maintaining a audience for cars people can barely afford I see people buying McLaren , Lamborghini, Porsches and guys with cars like yourself with a E60 M5 gets nowhere I mean a AMG Mercedes gets more views then a E60 M5 I guess it’s just what CZcams like aswell I suppose as they pick what they want the people to watch I know this as I have a friend who’s wife works for CZcams music and tells me how it’s all done they group the videos in a playlist based on what the person behind the screen likes and if that person clicks a playlist about one video then the ones they have selected will be shown next and she is a fan of Porsches so it shows where CZcams is going I suppose 🤷🏽‍♂️ maybe you could try buying a Porsche or some hyper car? Just thinking for you to get you channel going

    Interesting. I will have to follow along. I just purchased a somewhat similar car here in the US. It seems like BMW produced a special e46 spec for each market. Mine is a North America only limited edition 2004 330i ZHP. I only just learned the ZHP existed as I was shopping for an e46 330 (looking at any spec). I won't bore you with all of the details (lots of videos on CZcams) but the ZHP is a high performance version w bigger cams, 300 more rpm limit and a bunch of real M mods. Sort of a factory tuner version of the E46. Maybe the only time in history that America got the best version of a BMW. I was lucky enough to find one that just needs a little love and care for a great price. :) One of the interesting things I have found is that many of the trim details that were only available on the e46 ZHP in America are available as options in other countries such as the black shadow line window trim (not cheap), M exterior trim (ZHP has M tec bumpers) and the cube interior trim that only came on ZHPs in America. At any rate, I'm on a budget as well and going through much the same process. I was able to find a cheap slotted rotor and pad kit for $350 US and the biggest expense has been nearly $1000 on tires. (The ZHP comes with 18" staggered wheels w 50's in back.) Good luck with your project. Very sharp car. :)

      The ZHP is a cool car for sure. Most of the rest of the world got the M sport cars- czcams.com/video/CYi93pXOdfo/video.html

    My 2003 525i has white all over expansion tank and numerous cooling hoses. It overheats roughly twice a month. I top it up with coolant when it over hears and move on with my life. Bought car at 180k have 340k now, it's been like thay since day 1. Should I be concerned about engine failure?
