Thanks so much for producing your videos.
You have left a wake of joy in others by making it attainable for a novice weekend mechanic to maintain and as a result, own these cars.
I've owned my S85 for several years and have followed and completed each of the preventwtive maintenace items you have outlined. Laptop in the entine bay watching step by step.
Thank so much! Keep it up!

Keep up with your videos! I also have a 1 series 2011 E87, since I started watching your videos I gain some confidence and loose the fear of messing things up, now, I already did 3 oil changes, fixed the rear wiper water spray (heavy water here, created calcification) and replaced the headlight bulbs all by myself and now after rewatching your videos I am about to front arm suspension change. I also did the Oil change on my partners Fiat 500. Thanks for the confidence boost!

I bought my E60 M5 in 2017, but I’ve always had 2nd car (a runner) to do the day to day things (popping to the shops or doing the school run etc) - meaning I can use the m5 on more occasional longer trips and I only use the best, highest octane fuel. The engine runs better/smoother on premium unleaded.
Prior to my owning it the clutch, SMG PUMP and vanos lines have been replaced
Since I’ve owned it I’ve kept up with all the usual servicing; oil changes, air filter, cabin filter, brake fluid etc .. I’ve also changed the spark plugs, battery twice, tyres 3 times, SMG fluid, rear differential fluid twice…
Then also I’ve replaced the right rear wheel bearing, left rear electronic suspension strut, I-drive display unit, fuel pump, fuel pump control module, fuel filter. Both throttle actuators. 2 wheel speed sensors
A big job to do are the rod bearings which I plan to do next year. I don’t ever want to sell my m5 - it’s such a rare special car. I keep it in a car port and only use it once every 2/3 weeks for longer journeys, always letting it warm up properly. I also have a AMG battery charger to keep the battery topped up if it ever needs it 👍

Thanks for sharing. I use (and store) mine in the same way, although I’ve been driving it to and from work recently now and again as I love driving it so much!
Sounds like you are on to it with keeping yours well maintained 👍

late model C3.....want to LS swap one with m/t.
PS: When we were lucky in the USA, we got Holden's under the Pontiac badge that ended production of the BEST Holden even offered in the USA, it was labeled the G8 GXP in 2009 M.Y. and offered with 6spd manual and the LS3! This is what I wanted for many years, but price kept going up....."settled" for an 08 M5 with M/T and super happy!
Last Holden in the USA was the Chevrolet SS....and again offered with LS3 and 6spd manual.....but very hard to find and the Pontiac looked better and had a true parking/emergency brake.

I’ve always liked the Gen 1 small block TBH. I’ve had manual Corvettes in the past.
Yes, the last GTO was based on the Holden Monaro too, which was basically a 2 door coupe commodore. Interesting they used the Aussie platforms later on in the US, rather than a Chev.
Check out the Holden Maloo, it’s very much a modern Elcamino

I got my M5 2 years ago fairly cheap.
it had a few issues but I was prepared to spend some money to get it mechanically A1.
I slightly under estimated just how much that would cost 🤣🙄
since ownership I've replaced the following......
I hope your sitting down !!!
discs and pads front and back
    suspension bushings
    front control arms
    high pressure vanos line
    rod bearings
    both throttle actuators
    both ionic modules
    oil pump
    fuel pump
    oil cooler
    paddle shifter
    accelerator pedal
    rocker cover gaskets
    all pulleys and belts
    bonnet struts
    spark plugs
    3 ignition coils
    engine mounts
    expansion tank
    body gateway module
    windscreen cowling
    rear window seals
    new badges
    new window tint
and also the Eventuri intakes. the Eventuri carbon plenum is on order !!
    I'm sure there's a few things I've forgotten.
It runs like a dream and fingers crossed ill have a few years trouble free motoring.
Keep up the great content, by far the best source of info on the m5 on CZcams

@@MTechGuy it was the Engine oil pump that was randomly throwing fault codes.
Not something that's worth the risk,
so we got a new one fitted.
      The BCM was intermittently faulty.
the door locks would lock and unlock repeatedly.
Also the interior lights around the dash were flickering.
also had the fuel filler latch fail to open.

Great story. You got 1 of 4, I got the other one. I think ours was the most expensive of the lot, most options and lowest kms. Would be good to meet you someday. I am not sure if I would ferry down with the M5. We did fly down to pick to up on Dec 27, probably just a few days after you were at the dealer. The drive back home with my son was great, he got to drive it as well. The mechanic that I talked with PK and helped us test drive a few m5 is still my friend today and still works there.

Hi Jun, yes for sure, if I’m up Wellington way in the near future I’ll have to let you know, be great to check out your M5. You would have got yours not long after I paid a deposit on mine, I didn’t get it for few months though. Coincidentally I just made a video on one of the other 4 M5’s, the white one. I didn’t know the mechanic still worked there, wonder if it was the same one whom did my rod bearings?

New m6 owner here :-) looking forward to your video's. One question i have that i haven't found a consensus on is leaving car in D or Neutral when parked. Ive read good and bad from both sides. :-/ i have driven manual transmission and understand reasons for leaving in 1st gear or R depending on what kind of incline your on, but i would often leave my manual cars in neutral, and an smg being a single clutch (same as a "nornal" manual) other than for safety reasons i don't see the need to leave it in D . From a longevity point of view N is also a more desirable position. Or am i missing something with the SMG.

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy  Před 6 měsíci

Great to hear from another local! How you liking the M6? I wouldn’t recommend leaving it in gear when parked, if you are ever in a situation you need to tow it and it’s in gear, you can risk wrecking the VANOS pump. Just leave it on neutral with the hand brake on. I talk about it in this video- czcams.com/video/pUhGbwYv82c/video.html

    • @williewalford
      @williewalford Před 6 měsíci

Yeah I think N is the way to go. :-) I just picked it up. Driven it back from down south today. I've owned an e60 M5 about 10 years ago and regretted selling it. Hence the m6 :-) I've got a few things to tidy up, it's at 100,000kms so probably needs rod bearings soon, Engine light on due to O2 sensor and a dynamic damping fault on iDrive, possible EDC unit under seat. But otherwise it drives etc fantastic. I will be giving it a tidy up . I've owned a few BMW's the E36 3.2L M3 is still a favourite. Currently our BMW i3 knowbody knows how to fix! And the old e70 3.0L X5 is strong as ever. Also a tesla p85d is on the way! So yeah.... I've probably got a car problem :-)

Interesting- short term gain, but they lose customers retention and trust over the long term, which means less $$$ overall. A dumb way to do business rather than doing things right from the get go
