    I've owned my 08 M6 from 74,000km to 99,000km and it's been extremely reliable. The only three things that have needed replacement due to failure are the oil cooler, thermostat and voltage regulator which are all very common items with these cars. I had the diff seals replaced too due to a minor leak. This generation of M5 and M6 are about the closest thing I think you can get to an affordable supercar. The running gear is very similar to a Lamborghini Gallardo, Lexus LFA or Porsche Carrera GT, yet these BMW's are a fraction of the price. They are an absolute event to drive, so much so that just like the aforementioned models I think treating them as a 'special occasion'/weekend car works best as they crave the open road and are somewhat unpleasant (I find personally) to use in everyday scenarios. For that I use my E90 330i, another brilliant car.

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy  Před 3 měsíci

      Thanks for sharing Will, them items are pretty common and not really a big deal. Absolute event to drive is accurate! Although I like driving mine so much I have been daily driving it from time to time more & more. Good choice on your daily driver though, I currently have a 130i manual as my normal daily with the same engine

    I have a 2010 bmw m6 with 53k miles. Only put 1k miles on it and recieved it with a few issues when bought. Replaced the battery as it was drained and was old, 1 coil went out on me, the power steering fluid and now have an engine light for pre-cat 02 sensors (next up on my list). My upcoming maintenance is differential fluid since im getting grinding noises then around 70k need rod bearings, vanos line as well as trans gear/smg oil. So far the only time mine has 'failed to proceed' and needed towing home was ~400Klm after I changed the fuel filter.
    Took a while to debug, but I found the feed line from the pump had jumped off the new Bosch filter's inlet barb... giving me 10 x injector fuel pressure errors in ISTA-D :-\

    Do you think the original 18 year old alternator need to be replaced even when it works fine at the moment?
    I have a 2006 BMW M5 V10- third gear engine malfunction and I think it might be the alternator that is part of this problem. Thank you.
    ISTA has a code 002788 and code 0027D0
    DME: Fuel pressure, setpoint/actual-valve comparison at maximum pressure
    DME: Fuel-pressure control adaptation

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy  Před měsícem +1

      If the alternator tests OK it’ll be fine at that age. When the regulator starts to die it will come up on the dash with a charging/battery faults in most cases.
      Sounds like you may have issues with your fuel pump/fuel pump module/fuel pressure sensor?

    • @PeteRoy
      @PeteRoy Před měsícem

      I replaced the fuel sensor, the canister and the fuel filter and it didnt solve it, i read someone on m5board said they eventually found that the pump wasnt connected to ground and it solved the problem and others said alternator can also cause this problem, you can see 20 second video in my channel how third gear acceleration causes this malfunction
