    In this video I dig a little deeper into the waring light DSC issue I’ve been experiencing with my BMW E60 M5.

    Thanks for sharing this. I just started having the same issues recently in my 2008 M5. Same fault messages. First time they came up during some wheelspin, but then started to happen totally randomly. Goes away after shutting the car off. Figured it had to be a wheel speed/abs sensor, so I'm glad to see you and others in the comments had the same issue with a solution. I'll have to test the sensors and see, but the issue is very intermittent and not reproducible.

      Interesting. This issue looks not uncommon as these vehicles get older

    Agree with the other comments. I also had a similar issue and it was a single wheel speed sensor on its way out. The error codes were inconsistent until the wheel speed sensor completely failed and the DSC could tell me that it was rear-left. You could try to test the wheel speed sensors more thoroughly by using INPA which will be able to tell you the wheel speed that each sensor is reporting instead of just the direction. Good luck!

      Tested speed reading at each wheel speed sensor @ 1:13 in the video- All OK. When it faults I’m consistently getting several modules not seeing all 4 wheel speed sensors. I’ll see how it pans out

    I have just had this again! My car has been sitting for the last 2 Months on a battery tender in my garage! Somebody asked me a question about some readings as they have the high RPM at idle issue! So was having a bit of a play with ISTA connected up I ran the car up to temp and then decided to do a Vanos bleed as it was a little noisy ( I was just bored) completed that and was just playing around with ISTA in general after about 40 mins of idling/bleeding pro car is nice and hot. Up pops the usual DSC suspects! I looked at my wheel speed sensors live data, front right (FR) is reading forward @ 320 KM/H 😮 all others reading no value at 0.00 KM/H. Interestingly the faults latch as FL,RL,RR wheel speed sensors implausibility rather than FR implausibility. I wonder if I’d have actually been driving if it would have chucked up all 4 sensors as implausible! Properly 4 time in 5 years of ownership I have seen this! And always after car has been sat. First time car has been hot though I think. I’m not overly concerned at this point as the E60 can be finicky at the best of times. But having read the other comments on here it looks like maybe wheel sensor issues are common as they age. Mine is also early 05 car!

      Thanks for the info Duncs, very interesting, especially as it was throwing plausibility faults for the other three sensors (similar to my issue) This has been very tricky to diagnose as it’s so intermittent and only faults when really hot. We’ve had some hot days here lately (30Deg C +) and it’s been faulting regularly now with some more specific codes, I think I may have got to the bottom of it. Video to come!

      @@MTechGuy That’s good, hopefully A reasonably cheap fix for you. Look forward to the vid👍

    Sorry I missed your part 1. I had this issue, for about more than 1 year. Finally fixed it just a few weeks ago. I have replaced my battery, the guy that bought my battery was so happy with it. I have changed my IBS, so many stuff. Eventually a few weeks ago when I drove in traffic it eventually became not intermittent. I got the codes going pretty much every drive after it came up on that bad traffic day. The culprit is a wheel speed / abs sensor on the front. Replaced both sides and it’s finally fixed!!! This cause us lots of grief as it would not appear immediately, usually after a drive but when I immediately turn on/start the car… computer panics. Including trunk not opening, I can’t unplug the battery. The SMG pump will keep on priming, door mirrors opening, even bogus overheat, car will not even stop/turn off. In fact this might have been the culprit when the car locked itself after the BMW M event when we displayed the car where we almost lost our M5. Make sure to buy the revised sensor, the old one as per my electrician said seems to be short. Hope this fixes your issue, I got mine shipped only $500 NZD for 2. Local dealer here will charge you $500 for 1 and it takes weeks to get shipped. Get both from FCP Euro.

      Interesting! That’s some weird behaviour for sure. I’m not 100% convinced on exactly what’s failing at this stage, especially with it being so intermittent. When it does fault it’s showing all 4 wheel speed sensors, but all 4 do test out functioning OK

    • @JunYamog
      @JunYamog Před 6 měsíci +2

      @@MTechGuy yes very intermittent on mine, it takes like months before it appears again. That is why it was so hard to diagnose. Before both of my front sensor will have a fault, but it doesn’t even alert me. It’s like a minor fault only shows on a scan tool, hence it wasn’t a primary suspect. We just swap them around and it was fine, we looked at other possibilities. It was only apparent once the fault appeared every drive and only 1 side was faulting, the other weird fault also did not appear. Only had dsc, abs, tire inflation , transmission faults.

    Thanks for a great channel.
    I bought my m5 e60 for 7 yars ago and I love the car.
    I have recently had the same problems as you and at the same time I have for the first time experienced that the car needed some extra revolutions on the start motor to get the engine running. Now I took a look at the battery and it seems to be the original one. So I decided to install a new, but I got in some problems with registering the new battery. Can not find it in INPA. Can it be that just this model does not need to register new battery?
    Best Regards
    Göran

      @MTechGuy  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I don’t have a huge amount if experience with INPA TBH, if I remember rightly power module, under body wasn’t available for the later cars so can’t register it and would have to use tool32 to register and possibly ncs expert to tell it what ah/wet or agm.
      I would just register it and tell it what battery type with my scan tool, or look at using ISTA

    My money is on an occasional, intermittent fault with one wheel speed sensor, rather than the dsc module. Maybe the module is getting confused by the intermittent nature of the fault and giving you inconsistent feedback. (Although when I had a similar issue twice in the past the codes did indicate which was the faulty sensor)
    Might be worth buying 4 new wheel speed sensors- they’re not very expensive.

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy  Před 6 měsíci

      It’s indicating all 4 wheel speed sensors no signal when it faults. All 4 sensors test out OK though

    • @mista5796
      @mista5796 Před 6 měsíci +2

      @@MTechGuy Hmm.. obviously the fault is occasional, intermittent and inconsistent. Wherever the fault is, that component is working fine 99.9% of the time. So when you’re testing it, it’s showing that it’s working (because you’re unlikely to catch it whilst it’s actually faulting).
      I just know I had a similar issue with my e60 m5 (warning lights, abs/dsc fault, transmission fault etc) and both times it was a faulty wheel speed sensor. I replaced the faulty one each time and it fixed the issue.
      The difference though in my case was the code reader was telling me which one was faulty, hence which one to replace. Maybe in my case the sensor had failed suddenly and more severely, whereas in your case they’re still just about hanging on..
      It’s definitely strange, intermittent faults are the most annoying. Presumably the fault will get worse through time and one day fail altogether.
      I think if it was my m5 I’d replace all 4 sensors. Then if the fault does continue at least you know it’s something else. Then going forward you know you’ve got new wheel speed sensors in each corner 👍
