    Thanks for this M Tech, I followed the series as you uploaded and today mine came home to roost. All the issues you had, hot day in blighty, decent run on the car so everythihg nice and hot and then a whole load of warnings like the clutch slipping and poor gear changes but only had the lights on the dash when I got home.
    I read the codes often and noticed I was getting a Front Right wheel speed direction code but didnt think much of it until today when I had all the codes you had. I have ordered an ATE sensor and will replace the front right and see what happens. I'm tempted to stress test the current sensor with a hair dryer but dont really have time as I need the car as my daily this week as the X5 is up on ramps.
    Thanks again, top job .

      Always fun daily driving the V10!
      It seems like as these cars get older this issue is becoming more common. It can cause the car to do some really weird stuff too, not just DSC related.
      Sounds like you’re on to it, the ATE sensors are good quality.
      Mines been behaving since I replaced the sensor, but it is winter here now, so the true test will be in Summer again!

    Great video, thanks - mine has not quite reached 100,000km yet, so hopefully not going to have these issues for a while yet.... I know what you mean about the heat, we have super hot temperatures here in Dubai.

      Cheers man, yes I hear it’s normal for you guys to see 40+ deg.C ! 🥵 Not as hot here but the UV in NZ is intense

    If the fault comes back definitely replace the other front wheel speed sensor ..
    You could even replace the rears whilst you’re at it.
    You’ve obviously had one bad one (I had it happen twice on my M5, one front one rear). But you may also have the other front wheel speed sensor that’s just about holding on.
    It’s the easiest and cheapest fix, and it’s the most likely culprit

    • @MTechGuy

      Yes for sure, I wouldn’t be surprised if the other 3 are part way toward what the soft failing one had gotten like

    Glad or not yet glad that suggesting the wheel sensor change has fixed your issue as well. After watching your video, now I am anxious again… I wonder if ours is not fully fixed yet.😂. I would suggest to replace the other side, also use the new revised BMW part 34527853583 as it slightly longer. I guess we won’t know if our cars are fully fixed until next summer. Yes our first issue appeared when it was hot 3 years ago. It became really bad at the start of the summer and 1 time on traffic, our car hardly ever gets to a traffic but there was road works that evening. Very similar symptoms to what you described, hot, lights, clutch releases, etc. however when it initially showed up it never was while running the car. Shows up every few months just after stopping the car and running it immediately again. In fact I got even overheating warnings, keys not working, mirrors, trunk not working. So far we have been ok, but then again we hardly use the M5, still hasn’t crossed the 70k kms mark yet…. I thought 2023 was the year it will, got a few more kms to go.

      Cheers Jun, yes, although I drove the car every day for 4 weeks, the highest temps we got were 29-30 deg.C, it would always fail before around 33 deg.C. So far so good though.
      Interesting what you described with them other faults, I have also had boot issue and it telling my my ignition key still in even though I’ve removed it and locked the car (although only a couple of times in the past)
      Car has been flawless since the wheel speed sensor replacement, I’m tempted to plan to replace the other three after hearing your story and similar from other E60 M5 owners

      @@MTechGuy yes this wheel sensor ability to make everything wrong is weird. Although I think there is a logical reason why it can cause all of these issues only known to the original engineers. 2 years ago we actually saw this wheel sensor issue, but never popped up just on a scanner. We swapped it, then forgot about it and trying to reproduce the fault. We just thought let’s try to fix this fault and deal with the wheel sensor later. It only became obvious like yours when it fault kept on appearing more often and the symptoms changed to having ABS, clutch disengagement, etc. I might look at the rear sensor, but got other bigger none M5 issues to deal with. I even have new parts that hasn’t been used yet 🤣

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Sounds like almost exactly the same fault!
      Good luck with the rest of your M5 parts 👍

    I think it makes sense to replace the other sensor as well because it could be soft failing like the other one, most of the time when they fail they will just not send the right speed back to the ECU and you can see it clearly in live data.

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy  Před 4 měsíci +1

      They all tested fine in the live data, but that one was definitely soft failing and causing issues with the self check before the car moved. I believe the other 3 could be part way there too just due to age

    Living in Wales don’t have many issues with the weather being too hot.

    • @MTechGuy

      To be honest the temps here aren’t that different to when I was living in England, just less cloudy days and more intense UV makes it feel much hotter

    My advice is take the steering angle sensor out and clean it with rubbing alcohol before you replace any EDC modules or any more sensors. A lot of the times all the DSC errors and electronic damping control errors come from bad or dirty steering angle sensor. I’m speaking from experience. That includes faults shown as wheel speed sensors. It will cost you no money and it’s no harm to the car. Hope that helps.

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy  Před 4 měsíci

      Cheers, not had any fault codes relating to steering angle sensor, and the one in this car is the older type steering angle sensor with the brushes, not the optical lenses type

    Mines now becoming more problematic with this issue! Least I think it’s this issue! I didn’t get the normal messages the first time! But car was acting very strangely. Didn’t want to change down gears, then it felt like it was riding the clutch on pull away and then I lightly pressed the brake at about 10mph and the ABS fully kicked in. Pulled the codes and had multiple wheel speed sensor warnings for different modules and also front right specific wheel sensor. Next time I drove the car the normal warning culprits appeared. I’ve only just put the car on the road for the summer so it’s been sat for a while, cleared the faults and they haven’t come back! Pretty sure it’s the front right sensor as I also captured it doing 200mph whilst the other 3 wheels were stationary (it was parked in my garage) I have ordered 2 ATE replacement for the front sensors! It was a hot day for May in the UK 22C 😅 but you would think the sensor would get much hotter than that being so close to the brake discs!

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy  Před 2 měsíci

      Sounds like how mine behaved at one point, although mine never showed a wheel speed sensor fault with the live test. Definitely worse when ambient temp above 30C. Nice day in the UK 22C! Sounds like a good plan doing both front sensors 👍 Hopefully that resolves the issue! Make sure your battery isn’t low voltage from sitting too, this can cause all sorts of issues.
      Mines been OK for now, I’m tempted to replace the other 3 sensors for the sake of it TBH, but got other stuff on my plate at the mo

      Yer I’m planning on changing my battery, I keep it on a tender but it’s at least 5 years old flooded 110Ah. I plan on changing to an AGM. 95ah seems to be popular choice but I think you can only program up to 90ah for AGM batteries. I don’t know if that will cause any issues?

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy  Před 2 měsíci +1

      That lead acid battery will be close to end of its life. The AGM batteries last for approx. 7-10 years, 95ah close enough, it’ll be fine 👍

    Make sure ur battery is fully charge when scanning for faults, might be a good time to replace some relay per age of the car , delete codes and reset adaptation, most importantly do the cycle ie. after clearing the reset, take the key out , get out of the car and lock the car wait a few seconds *i usually do 1 minute or less* then unlock put the seat belt and put the key in and start. see if it helps.. Also at times the ecu will adjust and delete the codes after u put a few miles on it. Lastly try getting a scanning tool that is Bi directional. Hope this helps

      Battery fully charged when scanning.
      Basics checked in part 1-

      The Schwaben scan tool I use is bi-directional, and can read all the data I need 👍

    Hey, wanted to update that for DSC fault with limp mode, it was not DSC related. It was in fact my Idle Actuator Bank 2. I thought it was DSC related because it seemed to only happen during wheelspin, but it got worse and started happening while just cruising along.
    Replaced both idle actuator (figured I'd do both while I'm doing it) and the issue went away!

    • @MTechGuy
      @MTechGuy  Před 2 měsíci

      Nice! Steering angle sensor, and a faulty throttle actuator
      can trigger the DSC fault. I didn’t have fault codes for either. Looks like the wheel speed sensor has fixed mine
