Next, replace the crankshaft bearings.
Newsflash: If your crank seals are leaking, then you likely have all kinds of damaged bearings. Yet in this video, I did not that the crankshaft was pulled and the bearing individually cleaned and spun by hand to test the spinning ability and test for the sound of rattling ball bearings. The piston rods could also be bouncing on the crank, but there was no test for that little detail. End bearings can easily be removed and replaced without a press. The crank ends should be sanded down with 2000 grit sandpaper or finer. I did not see any grease applied to the backside of the crank seals. I did not see any oil compatible grease applied to the exposed end bearings.
Very nice!!!!👍👍👍
Now that's what you call a quality motor
Good Job
Thank you
Get Rid Of Champions And Go With NGK
Usually I’m an ngk guy just wanted to put back in what was there.
Best kind of boat is someone else's!
Agreed
Those 230s are very rare sleds I've only ever seen one in person
Could you see how much that guy wanted for the water sled at 19:04 minutes into the video? Thanks
You interested in a CHEAP arctic cat jag 340?
44:56 That sno prince is supposed to have a redish orange chassis not the black I BELIEVE im not 100% sure
1964???????? Stupid
Need to put the show schedule on before the show
Another awesome video! I especially love the salvage yard segment. We have nothing like that here in Indiana. Scorpion began in the early 1960’s until they were bought out by Arctic Cat in 1978 but kept the Scorpion name going until 1981. That Sidewider is an ‘81 and pretty much just an Arctic Cat El Tigre with different colors. Highly sought out by Scorpion collectors and go for big money.
Not a big snowmobile guy. They sure had some interesting machines back then. I remember going to z gentleman house and he snowmobile( don't remember brand) but remember it had dual tracks and he said it maxxed out around 18 mph and it was heavy. Said it was made to pull loads. He said you went through drifts and not over.
Skidoo alpine had dual tracks and one ski and was super heavy lol
I was close to going but decided to finish a lumber order so I could deliver that today. this fall Livingstons will have my snow checked riot 858 I cant wait
Hey Wyatt,I missed this show , dang it ! Need a set of front spindles ( not sure if that's the proper name ? ) for my 71 tnt 292 . .Prob see ya at the next one .....
On those close fuel line connections do loop instead of a straight connection. Less chance of a crimp. Love the vids Wyatt. Keep em coming.
This sled will be back in the fall for more maintenance (chain case, bogeys, etc) that’s actually a really good idea. Thanks!
“..how am I gonna get down”
Those were pretty cool back in the day, they do like to go straight though ha ha
I’m surprised how good of shape this sled is in. Plus it’s very complete.
Great song pick for a fast beautiful Alpine!
Good n you?
Gooood n u?
Except for a front tag, this 1983 is exactly like mine. West Virginia only issues one plate. The only time the DeLorean isn't ideal for me is range day. Not much room for long guns, handguns are fine. My Xterra usually gets the nod on range day. The DeLorean obviously attracts attention at the range or most places i go outside of my town. Per a state trooper, there were only five DeLorean owners in WV and of the five, I'm only one of two that were black. Bought mine March 20, 2003. This year marks 21 years of mine owning it and many more to come.
That's real sweet! Reminds me of my 69 snojet 190! Fun stuff,
NH but they got that Maine registration 😂
He bought it with that reg on the side lol
Was a groomer sled for bangor Maine back in the day.
Nice sled. Thanks for coming on to the vintage podcast with Mike and Rob on Thursday. We would love a video of the caribou for the podcast for next season.
Loved watching it! And Absolutely!
hey wyatt, not to be a pain in the ass but that wacky pronounciation is "sacks", fitchel and sachs. looks kind of like a ski-doo copy. i wonder if that is the 293 cc 17 or 19 hp. i think sachs made the best single the 340 with a hd. it was almost 30 hp.they came on a bunch of wierd name machines other than the famous ski-roule.
Not a pain at all thanks for the info!
Sweet machine! Im enjoying these videos! Didn't have a season over here in Nek this past winter. Hopefully next winter will be the one! Looking forward to more videos!
This is not a ski-doo. Its a Sno- tric , made i sweden at Morgongåva.
I know it’s not a skidoo but it used skidoos parts and as well as skidoos design for the chassis.
Sweet sled Wyatt ,,,can't wait to see at the shows .....Gonna be a long wait 😂
Thanks Dan yes it will be lol
Cool! x18
Super cool 😎
When you crossed the the Hudson River you were twenty minutes away from me. I would have bought you lunch. What town did you go to?
I went to Palenville NY and I appreciate the generosity!
Ok here goes. I have owned all three versions of that sled (At the same time). In Sweden That sled was sold as a SNO-TRICK and SNOW TREK. The only difference was the color of the hood. The Main chassis is a licensing deal from SKI DOO. The chassis were built in Sweden by Active corp (They make snow-track groomer type machines) Ski Doo drawings were used but The chassis are slightly different. The wards chassis is 1in longer than the Ski Doo to accommodate for the tow hitch. The hood area and the ski spindle areas are a bit beefier on the wards sled as well. All the drive line components are straight from Ski Doo. The track should have a Wards or Sno-tric or Snow trek stamping on it .The lighting is from a Swedish scooter company. The switch on the bars is original (from a scooter). The wiring patch block on the engine is also original. You are right about the sound from the Donaldson pipe is pretty cool off that Sachs motor. The tube on the gas tank cap is the right amount of oil to put in the fuel tank when it is empty. A little black tape on the upper end of tube keeps it in nice and firm usually lasts for about a season. If ya have questions let me know.
Awesome info! Thanks so much! Can’t wait to dive back into this sled in the fall.
Great video man! I really think you should do sled mods, and older four-wheelers
Sled mods are coming for sure! Got some ideas brewing lol
WICKED COOL SLED. TOO BAD IT'S TOWARD THE END OF THE SEASON. WINTER IS MY FAVORITE, KILLER TIME OF THE YEAR FER-SHER... STAY COOL, PEACE FROM CREEL CHIHUAHUA, MEXICO...
Nice video. It’s so hard to find the body parts for a Fury because they just didnt make many. That early version of the 440 FA Suzuki is unique. Much higher output than the 1976 4000 El Tigre. 60 hp! The next years Cat was tamed to 48 hp. Being a higher strung FA it was more fussy than the 76. But set one up right and it was fast for its day. Not a racer, a muscle sled. Contract special built for Suzuki dealers to have one hot sled for 1975. The last year for Suzuki sleds based off the 1975 El Tigre and built by Cat. All part of the Suzuki engine deal for Arctic. Rare beast.
Try to see if you can restore the original plastic covers around the light, and handlebar, with the spedometer. This steering mod looks really homemade and crappy imo. I have one of these sleds, and I am planning to use the original steering stem, cutting it, and inserting a plug to make it longer. Doing this will preserve the original estetic, and functionality. I might need to get longer wires for the brakes, but that should be doable...
The Canadian military used these snow machines back in the day, the hoods were white and they were all season as they were with bogie wheels, I seen one in northern Canada at a airfield and it had a front wheel instead of the single ski and in the summer time they used it to pull the small plains around the airport. Great machines.
Eagle Premier would be a good engine swap. They are even firing versus the older odd-fire 2.7. Chrysler gave it a simple and clean EFI system compared to the Bosch EFI in later Volvo 760s and Peugeot 505s. My tripple-carb odd- fire 604 got horrible gas mileage compared to a Eagle Premier (30 mpg highway),but the Peugeot V6 was a problem free engine, very durable with regular oil changes. Replaced timing chains at around 150,000 miles, cheap and easy to do myself. If you did not know story of Peugeot V6 it was originally a small 90degree V8; then OPEC hit and Peugeot lopped 2 cylinders off and it became an odd-fire V6. Renault and Volvo hopped on board and put their skin in the game by contributing for the cost of Belgium Plant where it was made. It was a Peugeot engine from get-go, however volvo/Renault sometimes skimped on metal in cams, etc. for their versions.
Thanks for the info! Was fun learning that
I know this is an old video but for future reference, hardware on the chassis are American 9/16 on carb side nuts. Exhaust side are 5/8 head 11/16 nut. A stubby (short wrench) helps by tie rods. Engines are metric hope that helps
Thanks David!
I got a 1990 Phazer 2 LE myself and it is so fun to ride! Love it! Oh that sled should have heated grips as well!
Does it have a spare tire.
Yes under the “frunk” (front trunk) carpet liner is a little Compartment for a donut spare
Before i start watching....Yes it will run
I think that Skeeter is justtoo far gone. I've had several Polaris sleds from the 70's and I think your little 250 will be pretty cool when you finish it. A cool project idea for you would be a 6 wheeled Argo. Very cool machines.
Was enjoying it till I seen the let's go Brandon flag.
Sorry a flag bothers you.
You would be very surprised what a carb balancing(sync) will do for performance. it's really funny, a guy will take his motorbike to a shop for servicing and sync but don't do his skidoo or outboard. It is the same principle. Especially since on cyl runs hotter than the other
Glad you are back at it! I think lots of people were managing some form of a respiratory illness recently, but your videos are good , keep it going!
My boys and I really enjoy your videos, we love old snowmobiles and we love exotic cars as well, we live over in Maine so if there’s a chance that the little Polaris goes up for sale please let us know because my seven-year-old born is ready for that size thanks
Thanks so much for watching!
Don't give up on that snowmobile I've got a couple motorcycles I'm gonna work on and seeing you not give up helps me out
Glad I can inspire you!
