Stop comparing the car to NEWER cars! You cant! Its not fair to any old car! I daily drive a 1982 DeLorean. All year I drive it except for salt on the road. Mine is a SPEC-1 upgraded version and quicker than stock. It was quick for what it was. 8.8 0-60. A Vette was 7.4. So the DeLorean wasn't bad! I been a owner for 19 years and been in the DMC Community for 34 years! My car is super reliable and bulletproof. Restored her myself and NEVER lets me down. Oh I also have the 5 speed. 28.8mpg with A/C on and 30mpg without and cruising on the highway! The DeLorean is a perfect sport GT road car!

Oh my! I’ve been researching DeLoreans for the past year and would consider my knowledge expansive, however, I learned several things from this deeply detailed video! I ended up buying myself what some would call it’s daughter car (the Pontiac Fiero) and hope to buy a Delorean in the distant to near future, but absolutely LOVE, with all my heart, a DMC-12 DeLorean.

I want one really bad. This is the most detailed walk-around of the DMC-12 I have ever seen. Being born in the 80s, and growing up with the movies, I was instantly drawn to the car. But the more I learn about it, the more I love it. From its troubled history, to its many querks. Its just so different. Like you would never think to put a brillo pad to any other car. I learned a few things from your video. Like I had no idea that the horn was on the left column. Or reverse was like a Volkswagen. But thats what makes me interested. Its so much more than a time machine. Its a piece of Americana, and 80s nostalgia. I just hope they're still around when I'm ready to buy one lol. Great video!

It's a very UK European based car built in Northern Ireland. It's not a Ford or a Chevrolet our Cry-slur.

Just a note: In 1981 all cars sucked regarding 0 to 60 times. I think the 1981 corvette 0 to 60 was 9.2 seconds with 190HP. The Delorian was around 10s 0 to 60 with 130hp. So while by todays standards it is slow, back then, it fit right in. Fun video! Thx!

Except for a front tag, this 1983 is exactly like mine. West Virginia only issues one plate. The only time the DeLorean isn't ideal for me is range day. Not much room for long guns, handguns are fine. My Xterra usually gets the nod on range day. The DeLorean obviously attracts attention at the range or most places i go outside of my town. Per a state trooper, there were only five DeLorean owners in WV and of the five, I'm only one of two that were black.
Bought mine March 20, 2003. This year marks 21 years of mine owning it and many more to come.

Eagle Premier would be a good engine swap. They are even firing versus the older odd-fire 2.7. Chrysler gave it a simple and clean EFI system compared to the Bosch EFI in later Volvo 760s and Peugeot 505s. My tripple-carb odd- fire 604 got horrible gas mileage compared to a Eagle Premier (30 mpg highway),but the Peugeot V6 was a problem free engine, very durable with regular oil changes. Replaced timing chains at around 150,000 miles, cheap and easy to do myself. If you did not know story of Peugeot V6 it was originally a small 90degree V8; then OPEC hit and Peugeot lopped 2 cylinders off and it became an odd-fire V6. Renault and Volvo hopped on board and put their skin in the game by contributing for the cost of Belgium Plant where it was made. It was a Peugeot engine from get-go, however volvo/Renault sometimes skimped on metal in cams, etc. for their versions.

This is the only accurate and informative video of this car on youtube that i've seen. Theres not that much DeLorean content on here mostly its all BTTF car's, and people who dont know what they are talking about. I hope one day i get the finacial means to own one. That car is as old as am lol. I always wondered what LAMDA ment. Thank you for Explaning that, i been obsessing over this car when i first saw BTTF! When i was a kid and found out it was a real car! This was a very informative video thank you for posting hope to see more DeLorean content on here.

U r absolutely correct! The '81 Porsche 928 had 180 hp & 8 seconds to 60 mph. The PRV was in the Renault Alpine & held the 24 hour le'mon endurance record for 3 decades. It was chosen for 1: because Volvo had already ran it through the US's EPA approval nonsense & 2: DeLorean knew it would be produced for a long time & it was, till '04 in multi variations. A V8 was never part of the plan but a rotery was.

The "bowing" of the front fascia can look that way from changing headlights. You literally have to lift a small portion of it up to get a screwdriver in there. Some people call them "eyebrows" its common with this car.
