Great video! I am just starting out with bronze clay and love all the tips. My question is while you are drying the cuff on the mandrel, how do you get the ends to wrap around the mandrel so that they are not just hanging?
Great vid. How was this ring fired? On an open shelf? AH? Vermiculite? Thanks!
Hello, this ring was fired in a dish of alumina hydrate. Thanks for watching!
So what exactly is powder coating? It's not enamel, correct? Does it have to be fired in a toaster oven or can you use a kiln? Thank you!
Our powder coatings are polyester or polyurethane. They are not enamel; enamel is glass. Yes, powder coating requires a toaster oven at 350°F - 400°F. A kiln would not work with powder coatings. Hope this helps!
What do ypu do with all the dried clay cut offs? Can you add water and return to the wet clay?
Yes, you can either use these pieces to attach to the wet clay, or even dried clay with paste or water. You can also reconstitute the dried clay and turn it into usable clay again!
Karen you talk to fast. Hard to get the instructions. Thanks for sharing. 😊
That is so fun. I can’t wait to do this ❤
You’re better not to upload that many videos simultaneously, it is annoying
Hello, it is not our usual to upload so many videos at a time; however with our release of Pam East's products comes an exception for a release of a variety of videos to accompany these products. Thank you for your feedback.
Thanks for all those very informative new videos! Pam's products seem amazing, so cool that you guys are distributing them!! Wish I was living in the US or even better, that you guys were in Europe!
Unsubscribed for clogging up my feed with this crap. Congratulations
Hello nice channel Please tell me how good is the foredoom portable micro motor Doing some engraving and want to take places where no power is available Is good for engraving rings?
I absolutely love all the CoolTools videos. The only thing I think would make them even better is to be more consistent with stating at the beginning of the video how much clay is being used. Otherwise, love, love, love!
... as I'm pushing this farther ...
They are overpriced but they work
Where do you get the faux bone?
Hello, you can find Faux Bone here: cooltools.us/collections/faux-bone Thanks for watching!
Hi, what oil can I use? Will olive oil or linseed oil work? Or maybe over coat overglaze?
Hello, you want to use squeegee oil, which you can find here: cooltools.us/products/squeegee-oil-5-oz
THANK YOU for such a good video...I had NO idea things had come along this far....much appreciated. You're a doll.
Hi Karen, question. Does cooltools clear powder coat work on clad metal? Thanks
Hello, yes. Powder coats work on all metals. Thanks for watching!
Great video, as always! What beautiful cuff bracelets! I've never used Aureus Bright Bronze, but now I can't wait. 🙂 Question: Is the coconut shell carbon "bronze finish" (Cool Tools KLN 953) ok to use for this process?
Hello, so glad you enjoyed the video! Yes, coconut carbon is the recommended carbon for use with Aureus Bright Bronze Clay.
Love ya Karen and all the wonderful videos you share. I will try this project next. QQ can you fire Art Clay and Phoenix clay together? And if so at what temp? Thanks again!
Hi Yvonne, we'll make sure to share your kind words with Karen! Yes, Art Clay and Phoenix can fire together. They are both low temperature firing clays, so you can use either schedule for both.
I love the set I have and plan to get the rest soon. I use them on my laser projects and in my fine furniture woodworking
I ordered after watching this video! SO excited to try this on my bronze rings! Could you use Isopropyl Alcohol to clean? Is there a reason why not?
Hi Danielle, thank you for the order. We're glad the video has inspired you! The recommended cleaning agent for metal before powder coating is denatured alcohol or acetone. Hope this helps!
Why does this technique use glycerin rather than Klyr fire? Thank you!
I have just spent 45 minutes trying to make this Round-Domed Finishing Touches mold work. NOTHING! The clay will NOT stay in the mold. I have washed the mold, I have made the clay more moist. I have dried the clay more, tried 4 different scraping tools and a dozen angles...NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING works. The clay just rolls off the mold.😢
Hi Yvonne, not all metal clays are easy to use with the Finishing Touches Molds. We recommend EZ960, FS999 or Art Clay with these. If you are working with a more firm or sticky clay such as Phoenix or PMC, something that can help is leaving your clay in a clay hydrator in a small zip lock bag or similar container with the top of the bag open, this allows it to draw in extra moisture from the damp environment and become softer, which will help it more readily go into the low areas of the mold and scrape off without pulling everything out of the mold. It does make it a bit too soft for other work like coiling or texturing, so we would only advise doing this with a portion of your clay that you are planning to use only for purposes like this. Hope this helps!
@cooltoolsvideos Thank you for your quick response. Perhaps it would be a good idea to have that noted on the website, so people who prefer to use Phoenix or other clays that are not compatible with the mold don't buy the mold.
@@yvonnemairose6100 Thank you for the recommendation, we do have this information on our instructions, on the product page: cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0596/7092/1404/files/FinishingTouchesInstructions_e5c92b97-8be4-42ec-acb6-7c5e0c03c8b2.pdf?v=1670009458 For the future, we will keep in mind adding text regarding Phoenix specifically. :)
Great video...I will try to make one of these !
Hi Matt, I cut the end of the hoses and converted them to insert in the adjustable regulator with gauges cuz didn’t find this gauge that have female end that fit to the male hose end, but the Oxygen end leaking, while the butane hose’s connected to cooking cylinder successfully. Could you direct me where to buy this kind of regulator with gauge for the oxygen? Thanks 🌷
Wonderful informative video. I like how Karen explains her testing of the product. I too would think 50/50 would mean what she thought during her testing. ha!
Thank you Cool Tools! Excellent introduction to using powder coatings! I will continue to learn from other videos you post on working with this product. I love that when I read through the comments , someone from Cool Tools responds and answers the questions. SO helpful!
Thanks so much for the kind words Sharon!
Hi Jennifer, I have a porcelain pendant and wondered if it’s possible to attach it to a silver clay ring? Would the paste act as the “glue” to attach the porcelain pendant to the ring? Thank you and looking forward to your answer
Hello, we reached out to Jennifer for her opinion on this. She said: I would make a metal clay bale (like those we purchase for fused glass pendants) and attach it to the porcelain with E6000. That way, the bale can be embellished to match the porcelain cab and it (the bale) will be fully fired and strongly glued. Honestly, the silver on porcelain is simply silver adhering to the glass glaze of the piece. I am not confident that glaze can hold up to the pressure of a bale holding onto the cab. Hope this helps!
shooooooow!
I’ll be completely honest, the fact that the valves and the cans are the opposite colors is very confusing and I could see where it could cause a lot of issues.
When you refer to Mica powders are you referring to something like PearlX mica powders? If so, is there a video on how to use them to paint fine silver?
Hi Rita, you can find mica powders here: cooltools.us/collections/mica-powder We do not have a video on using them to paint fine silver. We will keep this in mind for the future. Thanks for watching!
Lovely colors! I am not sure I understand how you achieve that texture using that stencil. Were you starting off with metal sheet or metal clay?
Hi, Cindy used a stencil to emboss Cyprus Copper metal clay and then fired it. Hope this helps clarify!
Those are incredible!! Can you use just a regular oven? The one I also bake in? Or is the powder coating toxic?
Hello, you should use a designated toaster oven. Powder coating should not be in contact with food.
Thank you! I have been struggling and now I know why - the colours do not match. How counter intuitive.
That looks so easy! Thanks for the great video!
Pro welding tip: Don't ever use a butane lighter to light torches (or keep one in your pocket). They make a nasty bomb if a spark or slag hits them and melts thru. Always use a sparker. You will only make that mistake once.
Absolutely beautiful ❤️
Can you powder coat any metal or object?
Yes! Any metal can be powder coating. Most material can be powder coated, including metal, glass, plastic, wood, etc. Thanks for watching!
@@cooltoolsvideos Excellent 👌 Thank you so much 🙏
Great job in explaining!!
Before you place the stone did you firing the piece into the kiln and apply the patina? 😊
Yes, the piece is fired, the patina is applied and then the stone is set. Thanks for watching!
How is call the little oven where you place the clay to drying? Thanks😊
Hello! This is a clay dehydrator. You can find it here: cooltools.us/products/clay-dehydrator-excalibur-2399
🎉❤
😊😅
Is it possible to use a torch in some way rather than a kiln for this?
Yes, there are some fine silver clays that can be torch fired. We would recommend Phoenix Torch Fireable Clay: cooltools.us/collections/phoenix-torch-fireable-clay%E2%84%A2 Hope this helps!
Hello, I just purchased the gold painting powder from Cool Tools. I have a Beehive Kiln at home and fire most silver clay pieces on it. Can I put the gold painted piece in the Beehive Kiln instead of hand firing it? If so, which number dial do I set the temperature at and how long do I leave it on? Thank you for your help.
Hi Carol, we tested this for you to find out what would be needed for the Beehive. You'll want to set it at 5 minutes with the controller set to 8 in order to set our 24K Gold Painting Powder. :)
@@cooltoolsvideos Thank you so much! I really appreciate you checking this out for me! Best, Cool
Hi, where I can buy that carbon? It’s normal carbon?
Hello, this is activated carbon. You can find it here: cooltools.us/search?type=product&q=%22carbon+firing+media%22
❤
Beautiful. Thanks Cindy.
I'm amazed!! Is this a specific acrylic medium for enamelling or can I use any acrylic medium? I have Golden brand acrylic media. I don't have a kiln so I'd be firing it. Thanks.
Could you not use a Q-tip for mixing and applying?
I didn't had the squeegee oil available nearby can you suggest any other alternatives ?? cause i tried lavender oil but it dries too fast and tried sandlewood oil as well but than the colour changes
Make your own oil mixture with mineral oil, a few drops of clove oil and a few drops of oil of turpentine. Walnut oil also works well. Store this in a small dropper bottle when you have found the right oil combination. Experiment with different oils for a more open oil...which is slower drying. Keep your work and paint covered and super clean or you will have fine specks all over your work.
How many times will she say "um". I stopped counting at 60 times. good video otherwise.
