Hello this is Suzy, the patina is protected by the resin so it won’t fade or flake off in my experience so far.

If you want a plastic free alternative, would finishing with wax work? I assume it will look a little different
Hello, yes you could seal with wax but it would not be as transparent. You are correct that it would look different.
