I just got mine yesterday! can't wait to season start here in South America (Argentina). I am 46 and I am really tired of bending over, just a resort guy, not backcountry, not park, just cruise!!!

Boards or skis, it doesn't matter. Sharpen your edges to razor sharp. Stay near the edges of the slope if you can, and do everything slowly and with deliberation. Once you have mastered ice, your overall skiing will massively improve.

Let's be honest here, she is very very good. Majority of good skiers would struggle to keep up with you. I am talking guys who skied all their lives and get plenty of days on the mountain every year.

LOL, the half cab joke still gets me. I'm also still confused why it isn't a switch bs 180. Finally did 180 turns my last day of the season. I should have done it earlier as I probably would have gotten the 360 easily. But enjoyed the few resorts I went to and did a good few days of jumps near the end of season. Season is over for my location but looking forward to all the drills next year!

The title is misleading, it's not good vs. bad technique it's simply carving vs. skidding techniques.

Looking to go to the snow and snowboard for the first time here in Australia. Just found this vid and it has to be one of the better ones I've found for sure. Will definitely be watching this and more of your vids in the coming months to gain more knowledge on the basics, cheers

Had a different experience with narrow boards on icy pistes. It might be easier to tilt over, but on really steep icy pistes your toe "drag" will just lever your board off the piste if there is now snow but just plain ice. Had to opt for a wider board *and* go for a duck stance to not get wiped out regularly on steep (60%+) icy pistes. Yes, you could just go slower so you do not have to lean in the board so hard, but who wants to do that 🙂

I've had snowboading lessons from Malcolm when I was starting out some 8/9 years back, it was money well spent because he picked up my many mistakes instantly and showed me how to fix them in a way that was really easy for me to understand. I bet if I was to visit Alpe d'Huez today it would be really hard to get more lessons from him because he's probably booked up for months. Malcolm is a great teacher and I would highly recomend him to anyone especially if your a beginner, snowboading is really hard so having a great instructor who is patient and encouraging was invaluable to me. Keep posting these videos mate!! I love watching them.

I would be perfectly happy to just spend the day doing what those girls were at just getting the mechanics basics and actually staying on the board without falling down. 😅 I never skateboarded and can BARELY rollerskate I can walk in skates roll a little in them but some would say I can barely walk. Thanks for your instruction

Amazing video. I've been practicing these turns all season. I think I got it down on blues and it helps to get into a constant rhythm. I still need to work more on doing these in steep blacks. Also I have trouble doing these on slush or rutted out powder. I think one edge catches into the snow

Hi Malcolm, Love your videos! I’m a decent snowboarder but only just trying to get into tricks and I’m struggling with Ollie’s. I can get the board off the snow, but am struggling to get any real air. Any tips? Cheers Paul

I especially love the ski pole drill. I've whispered "hold the pole, hold the pole" to myself on runs to keep focused on my hand position and posture. Your videos are so helpful, thank you!

I just go flat base and straight. I hate those boarders who ride like you show it in your video. No line just jumping from left to the right and in between.

Why carve when you can point it? Just kidding, sort of. The only bad snowboarding is if you’re not having fun* unless you’ve been riding for 29’years. Then you can be a technique nazi.

Love the drills. worked on knee steering drill multiple times when i was starting regular, then when i started switch riding i did the same thing as well. helped a lot with the switch learning.

Thanks for all of the great videos! I just wish this one was posted 2 months ago, since my snowboarding season is over now. So now I need to wait until next winter to workon these exercises.

Ahhh I could have used the nose roll drills this season!! That drill looks like it would have really help with my nose rolls.

Love it! Thank you so much for these tips. I did my first trip last month and your videos definitely helped me have so much fun. I did find it really hard at the beginning on hard packed slopes with lots of wind. As a beginner, it was much easier (and less painful) to learn on the softer, slushy snow, which more experienced riders don't seem to enjoy? The hard, icy stuff did nothing for my confidence at all. Any tips for this? Thanks for sharing your experiences. I can't wait to try these out on my next session to prepare for my next trip!
