    I learned years ago from you to put more weight on the front foot. This allowed me to unload the back and move my hips from edge to edge smoothly. This changed my snowboarding style and mede it so effortless. I improved since but I can still rember that wow effect when I felt how snowboarding should be like. Thx a lot for that!

    This is most important video for a beginner on this channel imo. wish you had done this one years ago, would have saved my tailbone so much punishment 😅
    It is natural to subconsciously shift your weight back when going downhill, becoming aware of this made all the difference.

    Further situations where the upside T becomes limiting: at speed, carving hard, any riding where we need to use our full vertical range of motion. Awareness of board performance (as you say at the end of the video) is the main determinant of weight distribution. The distribution requirements change as our performance goals change. The upsidedown T is a great 'rule' and like all good rules, once one knows the rule, one can begin to see when/where to break the rule and gain performance advantage.

    You’re a psychic sir. Yesterday I was just overthinking about this while riding, then conditions turned into heavy wet snow, so I forgot about all that and just rode. A big part of getting better in my progression is when I just let things flow and not overthink things.

    I discovered your videos recently, your explanations and your filming, editing is the best I've seen. I'm going to be in the mountains next week after a long 5 years of not being able to board. So I'm a little apprehensive and trying not to let my ego of 'years of experience' get in the way, even though I do have a lot of snowboard experience in the past, I feel I'm learning from the ground up.     I’m new to your channel, thanks for all of the great content! Can you recommend an exercise or device would help during the Summer months to help become a better snowboarder? I have been boarding for 10 plus years but don’t ride as smooth are you do in your videos. It’s beautiful to watch.

    Awesome content as always Malcom, thanks for all the insights. One thing I'm struggling since the beginning of my journey with snowboarding is that when on heel side my peroneal muscles become stiff, like pulling my toes up to be on heel and thus forcing it to always be tense, one single run and feel like the lateral of my lower body (lateral of shim/peroneal muscle) is imensily worn out already.
    My question would be, to be on heel should I not be using my shim as a way to pull my toes up and just use my weight? Would that be the correct way and that would free the muscle?

    Hi Malcolm. Love your videos and thank you for creating all this awesome content. It is super helpful when someone is breaking a topic into fundamental and intuitive pieces. Personally it helped me a lot. However There's one thing I find myself struggling with and that is increasing the speed. At the beginning of my snowboarding runs I used to fall a lot, and somehow even when I'm a much better rider, you can call it "beginner- intermediate" it still frightens me when the board picks up too much speed and even when I'm in control I find myself "hitting the brakes". I wonder if this is a common problem that other snowboarders find themselves dealing with.

      Yeah it's pretty common, I've been filming a video on this but I'll probably hold it back until next season (my views are already dropping as we get closer to the end of the season). But basically just build up to it slowly, gradually increasing your speed, and if you're in control, then it shouldn't feel too scary!

    Hi Malcolm! Love your vids! Would you be willing to do a review of rotational binding plates? There are some people out there that trash them without any due diligence, and I can't find any decent information on them. I would really like to know if they might be worth trying out. Broko is one brand that is out there.

    Another very well explained and demonstrated video thanks! One thing i find difficult is weighting, both fore/aft and side/side for fast flat base riding. i HATE flat bits on my board, it just feels so nervous and "edgey". Yes, i know, if i work on my fast edge changes i can then edge to edge more on the flats whilst travelling in smaller arc width, but i'd love to see a vid on carrying speed across flat runs, with an oneous on controlling direction vs surface camber and how to try to avoid that horrible "i'm gonna slew, catch and edge and eat snow" feeling that i can't seem to shake! Thanks 🙂

    Hey Malcolm, love your content. The way you explain the reasons why things work the way they work is excellent.
    One snowboarding mystery for me that remains is foot pain. Especially on steeper, icier and longer runs the arch of my feet burns like hell and I need to take breaks to make it all the way down. It means that I currently prefer smaller & easier resorts.
    Do you have any tips & tricks on dealing with this issue? I think this subject could make for a very popular video.

      Thanks, and yeah foot pain can be a pain for sure! Fortunately I've never had too many issues with it, but certain boots I definitely didn't get on well with. Insoles can probably help, but as I say, it's never been much of an issue for me!

    That's ok, vid you have a correct weight distribution through your hip. I am 5kg heavier on my front foot due to a degenerative wear condition in my hip, to counter this, I set back 3vm from the balance point on my board. Just a thought for you to consider

    Thank you for all the amazing videos Malcolm, you definitely provides the most useful and informative material on here!
    Per your demonstration, in order to maintain the upside down T shape position, does my back leg have to be constantly bend and pushed forward? It seems like the back knee needs to be the pillar and keep everything centered? Sorry, i'm still learning and couldn't find many videos that describes how the back leg should be used through out the exercise.

      It can be slightly internally or externally rotated depending on where you want to drive pressure, I like to slightly internally rotate the knee to help apply pressure through the centre of the board and press against the cambered section of the board. On a more rockered board I might externally rotate it a little to help maintain pressure along the edge. However, regardless of how you rotate the knee the key thing in order to maintain the T position is just to keep a similar bend through both knees, and the stay centered over the middle of the board.

    Hey Malcolm! Just want to say a HUGE thank you for your videos, my wife and I are new to the sport and your videos helped us connecting turns down beginner slopes from day 1 on our recent holiday! We come from Singapore so there's no snow around and these videos really helped us prepare ahead of the trip 😁
    Question for ya, we struggle to go down slopes which have thick powder and lots of bumps, lots of the times we end up juddering out. Any tips on performing smooth turns on slopes when they're not as groomed?

    Hi Malcolm, hope you are having a great day! I don't get lots of time on the slope, 10-15 days a season, if I'm lucky (life!)
    This might be a long shot, but I was curious if there are any drills or things you can do at home to either improve or keep up your skills? These are just ideas, like strapping into your snowboard and standing on an edge, holding a wall to keep your balance, or trying to balance your snowboard on a ball like you see some circus workers or kids do it like a skateboard. They'll put it on top of a ball and roll it back and forth, these are just the kind of things I'm asking about. I'm not saying to do these things but are there any drills or things you do during the off season to keep up your skills?

      Hey Vince, so I don't really do any snowboarding specific drills. I skateboard a little bit which has some carry over for sure, but I only do that back and forth from the shops, I'm not doing tricks or anything anymore for fear of injury! Thankfully I do have a long season with 150+ days which I know is incredibly privileged, but it does mean that once the season starts I don't really have any breaks from snowboarding, so I don't really need to do anything else. In the summer I do stay fit and healthy, I do alot of stabilisation drills on balance balls on one foot, but that is mostly because I have a very weak ankle and I'm missing a tendon. I would just advise trying to stay fit, stay flexible, and enjoy any off season training, don't make it a chore!

    I love the "don't think about it too much" rationale. I tend to overthink things, but have found as I get a bit more comfortable, I can 'feel' what is needed. Still a long way to go! I find my biggest struggle at the moment is maneuvering at slow speeds in crowded spaces such as at the bottom of a run on the flats towards the lift line. Any tips for that?

    This video is so good for me. Appreciate the visualization of the knee steer/ feet pedaling around 6:30. I still find it tough to properly carve cuz I still have a hard time to get my two legs working independent of each other. So I feel because of this I keep on skidding at the end of each turn cuz I can’t get my legs to work in sequence (but always move together).. if this makes any sense..

    Hi Malcom, I'm having problems doing early edge changes in steeper terrain. I feel like i get so slow before the edge change, I just skid down the fall line, before doing the next turn. On mellow runs it's okay, however on the steeps I feel like I'm getting too fast if I don't slow down before the edge change. Any tips?

    Hi malcome, just a quick question what angles do you ride? Im at +15 -15 but im struggling with skidded turns on steeper runs when turn on to my heels was wondering if it could be the binding angles as when i turn my back leg just skids round without any effort. Even when knee steering.

      It's not the binding angles in afraid, I'm on +15 -12 here, but I always used to ride +15 -15.

      His riding style is so elegant. It's beautiful to watch. I wouldn't mind a video of several minutes of him just riding with a camera stick held out in front, so we can watch his turns.
      I mean, I don't snowboard well, but he is one of the most comfortable-looking snowboarders on CZcams, which is why I watch to learn from him. If I am ever to get good, I want to ride like he does.

    Will an 162 board fit me? I’m 195 and 83kgs but I want to do tricks, not powder. I’m afraid I should have bought a bit bigger and wide as well ( I’m eu44 though)

      Depends a bit more on the flex, but width is more important, but it sounds more than big enough. I'm 90kgs and I'm on a 159 here

    Hi Malcolm, in this video czcams.com/video/zCCeO83MiuU/video.html, you mentioned the 2-step sequence for good snowboard: edge change and then turn. Could you please explain how the knee sterring (torsonal twist) and weight distribution mentioned in this video fit into that sequence.
