#HowToSnowboard #MalcolmMoore - Jak na to + styl
Malcom always comes up with super helpful and original ways to teach snowboarding techniques! Amazing!
Thanks, attaching a flag to my board did feel a bit weird haha!
@@malcolmmoorewill watch again. Thanks Malcolm!
you know the season starts when malcolm releases a video 😄 great video as always
Yes! Thank you!
Did a snowboard course in a group two years ago. The instructor teached exactly what Malcom doesn't recommend to get the edge change right and progress from there. Watched Malcom's edge change vid overnight, hit the slopes in the morning and voilà 👌. That vid alone was better then a 3 day course. Big thx for your effort and helpful videos!
Glad they're helping!
I'm really happy to see you back! Can't wait to be on my board again! I applied the knee steering last season and my god, what a game changer. This year I'm planning on training on shorter, tighter turns for my challenging terrain, but it's thanks to your expert videos I improved so so much!
That is awesome!
Man, I wish I had watched your videos when I started snowboarding. Would have saved me many years of dealing with my bad habits and not enjoying smooth riding. Thank you so much for your videos. Really brilliant!!!!!
I watched this video twice and spent the last 3 days knee steering (and using your tips on riding flats from another video). Huge improvement. Thank you.
My pleasure!
Wow had to watch this twice, thank you Malcolm. I haven’t seen anyone else go into as much technical depth and detail. The explanation and breakdown is easy to understand. I’ve seen people say lead with shoulders, others say it’s all in the legs, but this is the most wholistic explanation. Can’t wait to try implementing these concepts 😊
Awesome, glad to help!
You're really hitting the crux of the problem that most people face with these latest videos.
I consume a LOT of snowboarding content and Malcolms channel is a clear standout. There's nobody else creating content this intuitive and helpful.
Big thanks 😊😊 really appreciate it
Great to see you dropping content again. Always very informative and helpful, shoulders perpendicular to front foot is great postural advice 👍
THIS ( 10:18 ) was a game changer for me! I’ve always rode stacked with my shoulders parallel to my board, but I’ve been struggling to carve properly after deciding to use more aggressive stance angles (+27,-3).. by aligning myself to the front binding changed everything completely! Today was the best carving day in ages, with very little effort to keep the carving line! Thanks!!
Malcolm another great video; what i love the most is the way you move out of the box to present movements, though amazing visual with that 360 X. I'm currently still shooting with my go-pro 7 which requires me to sometime edit the video portion after shooting. I love teaching other's using small bubbles of foundational information plus I'll go will into where do these movement come from in life for a transfer of riding knowledge! All the best from North Idaho!
Just love watching your clips. Ive been boarding for years and im still learning. This year im cleaning up my carving. Keep up the good work.
Awesome! Thank you!
Can't wait to implement this this season! Your videos made me (with 30 years experience) ride way better than before. Thank you so much!
Hope you have a great season!
Touche!! Great instructions. Thank you! Funny plus to end of your video is there's a snowboarder behind you exhibiting the exact wrong posture & kicking out & in of the back foot like a rudder to get the board around in the edge change. Then you are demonstrating the correct turns while this other snowboarder is seen behind you! Brilliant!!
Holy Malcolm, the bit about 'flag perpendicular to the front foot' makes so much sense! Thanks for the tips and awesome video as always!
Amazing video as always and can't wait to put this drill into practice as I start the season next week! (in addition to centre of mass over the board from your previous video)
Great video! I have been trying to learn switch better and understanding that the movement is in my hips made all the difference, you make the best videos on boarding I have seen Thank you
Malcolm your videos are awesome and getting me hyped my upcoming trip in a couple of weeks. Weirdly enough I've sort of done this drill before, I simulate 'walking the dog' with my front hand.
Wow I never heard of this method, it looks so helpful!! Thank you for sharing good tips as always!
Any time!
Amazing!
Thank you, Malcolm!
Can't wait to get on the mountain and practice it!
Have fun!
Malcom, your videos are getting better and better!
Such a great precise and helpful explanations here. Wish everyone on piste have a chance to check this out! As an advance rider, I’m viewing your videos over and over to improve my technics and teach my girlfriend before heading to the mountain in this December in Tignes.
Thanks for everything :)
We watched most of your videos and I am excited to practice your lessons. Will let you know how it goes!! :D
(the gf)
Haha, awesome! Enjoy Tignes, great resort, I've got a few friends who work there!
Great insight as always M
Amazing as always! Another tool under my belt to visualize.
Great to hear!
Great explanation especially in the flag shift is depends on the blinding angle from the front foot!! I almost watch all of your teaching video from the starting of 2023 and think again and again what you try to deliver. After months of review, think (with visualisation) and watch videos again and again from this channel, I learnt more than what I started in the beginning of 2023. Thank you so much for your video and I hope I can have a great improvement in my ride in the coming Jan 2024 snowboarding trip!
Awesome, I hope you have a great trip!
Maclom you are great teacher and instructor. we don't get bored watching your videos like with others. You are dedicated to teach us, and I am thankful.
You're so welcome, thanks for the support!!
Does anyone love this man? I do! Please keep up the videos. So glad the season started again so your videos come up.
Awesome! For me, I really got the hang of turning properly once I practiced one foot riding. Somehow it made me focus on the front foot and forced me to work with it the right way..
Appreciate snowboarding and teaching techniques. Yummy!
Yes the Dada is back, top board & top top advice, cheers Malc
Yeah still got it, it is pretty beat up now though, so might not be on my feet as often!
Best SB instructor in youtube
Thankyou!
For me I found holding the seam side of my trousers either side, thumbs pointing down was a good drill at the start of each season, im gonna try your one as well, when we get some snow at sierra Nevada and our season starts
Can't wait to get on the snow to practice this.
Hope it helps!
I might to get the camera,to film myself to improve my riding. Great video mate.
Thank you for video!!!
Welcome!
Thx bro !
Another great video. Back on the Dada. Must be your favourite board.
Yeah the dada is awesome
Great video!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks!
Boom! Thanks for that, hope you get some good snow in Poland!
Nice instruction, in 2 weeks starts the new season here in Brånäs, Swrden. Testing my new board. One question. I often get very tired, and cramps in my toes. What is a good foot movement wit them, or do you try to relax them? I had a severe accedent and my left anckle doesn't bent that much. If i can bent my ancle till a certain ponit. If I need to bent deeper my anckle comes up. So good tips are welcome. Keep up the good filming
This is great, thanks I always struggle thinking about my front-hand placement.
I've been boarding since 93, and after using many many years your techniques with the back arm I realized it is not really working for me.
If we just look at the carving guys and the surfers, they open the shoulders and they go 90 degrees shoulders from your front foot.
The back forearm is then brought forward, just leave the shoulder where it is but the forearm forward, you actually have that very position when you explain things off your board. Pros usually have that position in the backcountry. I found it gives much more stability, and helps start and hold a turn plus it is the best if ollieng or jumping so your back arm does not through you off balance. I would appreciate it if you could dedicate a video to your back arm placement. Thanks for this channel with much-appreciated technical details.
Thumbs up for those who not only enjoying Malcom’s way of teaching but also his perfect English👍
Haha thanks 😊✌️
HOLY SH*T this is insane training and it works
Glad to hear it!
I just imagined myself riding with that flag pole 😂😂😂 Anyway interesting idea 👍
Haha yeah better than using a real one like I did
Great vid as usual! Was trying this out in the snowdome and it made me realise I think I am using too much top half and not enough lower half.
You back out to adh at all this season?
@@malcolmmoore TBC on that one sir! 🙂
Thanks
Many thanks, much appreciated 🙏
when he said followtwo simple rules i could only think of one; SHRED THAT SHT
👍 Thanks!
No problem!
I feel like every APSI instructor is cringing watching this, there is such a heavy emphasis on an anticipated stance where the shoulders stay open to the nose of the board. Steer and rotate only up to the hips.
As an AASI trainer this is a technique I’ve used many times before in lessons.
Love the quality content MM
Love the new videos for the new season!
Would love it if you could make a video on what it means to ride with high performance, adapt speed and line, adjust body position to terrain/conditions, etc... Basically the stuff that they expect to pass level 4. How can a low level instructor get better at that and how can a non-instructor use it to take their riding to the next level.
Not sure if I explained it the best but I'm sure you know what I mean!
I got what you meant, noted down, it's a big video to make, maybe I'll get to it this season, however if not as a whole video I'll try and at least cover some of the individual parts here in other videos!
I went for the first time this season yesterday. I came to a conclusion. After 6 years of trying this a few times a year, i will never be able to just glide down the mountain in such control like most people can. Your videos have definitely helped, though, but im just not good at it. 😂
There we go ;)
Great Vid can visualise this off piste too thanks
Absolutely
Kolana, kolana i jeszcze raz kolana … ugięte … aż do przesady. Poproszę o nowe i kolejne video jak pokonać ból w nogach 😁.
Malcolm, hi! you never tell where your weight is when changing edges. on the front leg? in the center? on the back leg?
I 360 cam'd a long run at Tremblant yesterday, time to review the footage from the full-body selfie angle to see how good (or bad) my riding is...
Thanks Malcolm!
Good stuff!
Bonjour mon frère, j'espère que tu vas bien.
From an instructor all the way over in Canada, I love your content almost as much as Indy and am happy to admit I learn a lot. Glad you're back brother.
All good here, hope you're well too, thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it!
Malcom what stance do you have on your board
It is not the hand movement that turns the board. It's solely (in your case) the left shoulder.
Put a masking tape alongside the middle of the board's nose.
Crossing with your left shoulder over this line to the right side will turn the board to the right side.
Crossing the line again to the left side will let the board turn to the left.
This will work even with hands in the pockets or crossed in front of your chest.
It's always only the front shoulder crossing the imaginary middle line of the board.
The point of this video is to illustrate it is in fact the front leg, knee and hip particularly, that turn the board. Not the front arm or the front shoulder. However, I'm talking about the front hand as it is a very useful visual tool that is right there in your eyeline, and it can help you put your weight in the right place. Yes you could pull that limb in and have the same idea with the front shoulder crossing over a line, however I would emphasize once again that that movement is led by the lower body.
Love your content man. You've helped me alot understanding the theorie of Snowboarding.
The Following text has nothing to do with your current video, but with older once from you teaching edge driving, with the Imagination leavers in your legs, with which you control the turning of the Snowboard. I am currently a decent Snowboarder (4,5-5/10). In one month I am going to Go Snowboarding alot of Times. I will be able to lern carving and Edge driving, as you explained it in some of your older Videos. I have a couple questions tho. I have to Rent a Snowboard from the Ski Rental. Do you have any Tips for the Angle to Put the shoebrakets in? Would you also recommend me to Rent a more flexible Board or should i Stick with the Casual one for beginners?
I am very comfortable on Red slopes. Tho Sometimes it feels Like i get to much momentum and i have to Put on the brakes, to Catch Control. Do you automatically Kind of Break, or keep the Same momentum AS you carve/Drive on the Edge Like you explained it in other Videos?
Do you still have different Tipps, that i should Focus on, to boost my Snowboarding.
I would appreciate an answer. Keep it up man.
Best wishes from Germany
Rental boards... Sometimes they can be great and work really well, other times the shop just won't have one that fits you that well. So it depends on what you get, but at the end of the day there isn't much to a snowboard, it's just a plank of wood with a metal edge around it, so if you have a rental board that is the right width for your feet, right size for your weight, then you can usually still ride them well. The binding angles can usually be changed, so just find something that is comfortable for you. I'm riding +18 -9 on mine. For steeper slopes you need to make the turns smaller, so you spend less time in the fall line picking up speed, I've got a video on short turns that should help with this!
@@malcolmmoorealright man, that's very helpful. Thank you so much, i am going to Check Out your Video for small Turns.👍👍♥️
This is quite interesting because if I remember correctly, I think a lot of snowboarding instructors I've had tell me to start a turn with my upper body. Turning the head and then shoulders with the idea that the rest of my body will follow through. This seems much more like initiating the turn with your legs (of course you're moving your hand too and maybe your shoulder will follow your hand)
They were untrained instructors probably
I was taught the same way over 25 years ago in Swiss snowboard school, with the "plus" and "minus" positions of arms/schaulders vs. board when looked from above.
I am like you convinced the idea was that the extreme upper body motions forced your hips and legs te follow and do the actual desired motion. In the advanced courses (like week two or three) once they saw you doing the proper motion consistently and having gained the confidence to make your board turn as you plan, they did tell you that the extreme arm/shoulder wovement isn't actually necessary and to have your arms bore relaxed closer to your body for better style - something you could adopt in half a day, if not one or two runs.
Modern teaching approaches that have developed since way back then and get you there without that detour are better, I am also sure, but its not as if one was (or is) taught any bad technique that way (when taught and supervised properly that is, of course).
Nice! New Malcolm video and my local resort finally announced opening day today, what a great weekend
Haha hope you had a great weekend!
on black slopes a counter-rotation is turn on automatically, otherwise I accelerate too much or my fear turns it on
Hi Malcolm, I'll try this when im out in les2alps in early jan. I watch your carving, but my turns always seem to turn into a skid with the rear leg, any tips?
I honestly can't remember exactly what I say in this video, but it seems to be all about using the back leg! czcams.com/video/FByHEG10fUU/video.htmlsi=RpZSe0qNqsXMxRJ1
@Malcolm Moore, Hope you can answer this, I bought the same bindings from Nidecker, but going from Step-On to these, I find it really difficult to smoothly slide my feet in and lock into place, and the heel of my boots gets snagged at the end edge of the binding, now the questions, 1-what size boots do you wear? 2- do you loosen the straps before putting your feet in ? 3-do you have any recommendations on how to have the slide smoother ?
I have size 46 boots with the XL bindings. The straps don't need to be overly tight, particularly the middle connection strap, in fact that one should be loose away from your boot, it is only there to hold the other straps in shape, not to press against your boot. As for kicking in, I've not really had any issues doing it to be honest, just kick and push my heel down and then I'm good! Have a fiddle with the straps and hopefully it will start to make sense.
@@malcolmmoore Cheers Malcolm, appreciate the response.
Question: What do we do with our back leg/foot through all this?
Did you watch to the end? It follows shortly after, but I explain that towards the end of the video.
Malcom, where are you when shooting these? It always looks like the same spot and just looks EPIC with huge wide and long runs that are IMPOSSIBLE to find here in the PNW of the US....
This one was actually filmed during the summer up on the 2alpes glacier. It's a relatively small area open in the summer with just that 1 T-Bar and about 300m of vertical descent. It is the very top area of a larger resort that is open all winter. I ride there a bit during winter, but mostly in alpe d'huez, the resort across the valley from it!
Yearning for turning
Relatable Snowboarding. 😂
Well not quite yet, but a very important early step on the path towards either of those ultimate goals.
What style bindings are those? They're like Flow's, but you didnt use your hands
Step in Bindings: www.avantlink.com/click.php?tool_type=cl&merchant_id=9b2d5729-5e08-4599-89d9-d96682682cff&website_id=5fcf6130-85ce-4500-8e18-1913699cdb3a&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nidecker.com%2Fen%2Fcontent%2F514-supermatic
Hrm... I think I need a flagpole on my board now. That might prevent people in the lift queue from constantly bumping over my Board.
It won't 🤷
13:00 rider in red as a counterexample (bad posture )
Malcom...are you still riding supermatic's?
Yeah, they're on in this video I think?
Now I want to see someone with a 8-10 foot dune flag on the back of their board.
1:15 why you run a life simulation with low shadow quality? You should upgrade your GPU😅 But if serious - thx for lessons. I cant wait to try it on.
Lol, it's the shadow on the ridges of the piste! But yeah, looks weird!
Aww, given the title I did expect you to actually ride with the flag in place and the drill being about riding smooth to not make it wiggle all too much. 😂
Would have been an interesting new perspective though, had you clamped your Insta 360 on its selfie-stick to the nose of your board like that instead of the flag and view your movement from that point.
Yeah I tried, as soon as you moved the clamp broke off. Unless you drill through your board it's not gonna hold!
Ah, I see, bummer. But cool you actually tried!
Flag poles get a lot of mileage in teaching snowboarding
Maybe it’s easier to imagine you are moving the flag under your hand rather than moving your hand without moving your hand 😂
