#HowToSnowboard #MalcolmMoore - Jak na to + styl
Pretty comforting to hear that you had some of the same issues I think I would've had on that run.
Hey Malcolm, completely off topic, but were you potentially thinking of making a video on what we can do over summer to have a better physical/strength/mobility base for snowboarding for next season? Like a week by week training plan? (With or without a snowboard)
My advice, get yourself a Balance Board and/or try Wakeboarding . Indo this myself between the seasons, that helps alot
Off-season, as with any sport, is a great time for improving general fitness. Snowboarders benefit a shit ton from strength training and balance training. I guess balance board is great for that as @Maddin mentioned, but also riding any other board like skateboard, wakeboard, etc. is a great way to practice some more specific balance and coordination. In regards to strength, I think it depends a lot on riding style, but since, I guess, not many people will hit big jumps in parks your specific training would be leaning more towards muscular endurance and isometrics (static contractions, like holds in 1 legged half squat for example), and the general would include just regular lower body training with the aim of improving max strength.
I just said the first thing that came to my mind as a sport scientist but there are probably other people that are specialized in snowboarding training who can give much better advice...
Or balance board
@@perroloco5664 thats already mentioned 🤗
In terms of feeding the itch and keeping the brain nimble for fast paced turns, I mountain bike, skateboard, and ride a motorcycle.
I can feel my legs burning just from watching this
Great Malcolm! I'm confused at many responses saying not a snowboard run, and I wouldn't do that run? I feel you should practice all runs, that is the mark of a good rider. Not that they can only scream down a groomed run, but are able to "comfortably, safely" at their own place, complete any run. When I take a lesson, I ask to do moguls and trees and powder if we can, bc when I lose my way on the slopes, and end up somewhere unintended or just a change in piste characteristics, I have practiced those skills and I'm not nervous. My legs burn crazy and I have to rest, but I personally enjoy the challenge. I understand it's not for everyone, but I think everyone should give it a go.
Camera makes the slope a blue, breathing makes the slope a double black!
Great video. 2:33 looks as if it was planned exactly this way. So quick and efficient!
Exhausted just by watching that
That’s a solid leg day
Wow ghoully Malcolm! My knees were burning watching LOL
👻
It hurts just looking at this snow... 😬
Nice run, and superbe scenery over lac blanc !
Thanks for sharing these views, the piste was closed when I went up there early march.
Snow also looks suprisingly decent now, with more coverage.
Yeah, the snow is better now than it has been most of the season, shame we shut next weekend!
Love this video, great perspective and you can really tell how crispy it is. For steep or variable terrain like this it would be cool to see what you are looking at before and through the turn, are you looking at bit of ice, or chop, or further ahead etc
Looks like a hard run but rewarded with a free bottle of Coke!😄 Well done picking up the litter though, not many would have done that.👍
That's why it says for very good skiers.
Still rocking the Supermatics I see, I totally want to grab those for the next season!
Next season has some new colors. I love mine
What's the difference btw supermatics and Burton step ons. I have step ons and have had zero problems...?
Supermatics can attach to any boot
@@nikk2472 Thanks, I watched a video comparing traditional vs SM vs step ons bindings. I see how they work now.
Riding down a very difficult run and just casually picks up a coke bottle without stopping. Would love to take a lesson with you Malcolm but I can't afford to get to France. Your videos are great.
There’s a skier, a snowboarder and a Malcolm Moore
still on the supermatics huh!
I preordered mine for the 23/24 season a few weeks ago, so stocked.
I'd love to see a video which adresses slush riding. Still having problems going fast down a steep slushy/wet piste.
I felt my legs burning watching that
Looks fun. !
Is that Coca Cola ad? 2:38
My visit to the alps made me realized that it's full of skiers and they naturally create moguls. You took that steep mogul like a pro!! Very nicely done my friend!!
Moguls? Lol.
One single run in colorado has more moguls than that entire mountain
@Fola the Wizard of Sound I guess it depends on the mountain, but in Austria, moguls were everywhere. It was either moguls or flats
Snowboarders create moguls too … it’s natural from turning and pushing snow in any form. A snow bike would create moguls with enough laps. The moguls will be different spacing due to differences in turn shape between the forms of snow sliding. These moguls are fairly small and spaced out compared to more popular Colorado/California resorts though that get way more traffic.
@@adpbobcat yeah, you just described Winter Park/Mary Jane... in Colorado, but we have real bumps
You could do a video on how to best board such a piste. At the end of some days, many formerly easy pistes look like an artillery test ground and we need to get down them with at least some semblance of left elegance.
yes! Amplid Dada!
It looked pretty mellow. Boarders just standing around and not any real challenge to be seen. What am I missing?
Usually, when people are standing around, they are scared, lol. Others are waiting for someone or resting. I rarely stop on trails, and if I do, it is brief. I never understood why people stand around on trails, and it really irritates me. I understand if they have a good reason, but it happens more often than it should.
I agree, but I think the camera might be misleading. It's not rutted out or anything though
Hey brother, seriours question, im snowboarding 15-25 days a year in europe (dont have snow in my country), what is the best way to improve my snowboarding as much as i can each season within those 15-25 days? i thought maybe doing a snowboard level 2 instructor certificate, or maybe taking a snowboarding camp (EUROPE), can you please help me and guide me for the best option? thanks
This is why I don't do these kind of runs. Yes, I can get down one, but I won't have fun and my legs will be burning at least the whole day (and probably the next).
Was nice to see you do this though 😊
Just said this a few days ago and got lured into doing some skiroutes and steep black runs. Got no legs left 😂
Some were fun though!!!
Same here, what is the fun of crawling down such a beaten slope? I can't do it, no issues, but that's not fun. In such a situation, I prefer to find an untouched snow somewhere at the side of the ski route to ride around this beaten section.
I am a skier, and I never went down trails with moguls. A ski instructor I had as a kid told me to save my knees by not doing moguls. I still had to have a knee replaced later on. But even without the bumps, my legs would have been burning on that trail from the steeper parts.
@@tinaderbin7092 sorry to hear you had to get a replacement. Doing moguls won't become a habit for me.
Sense of accomplishment and sharpen your reflexes.
I personally enjoy a good mogul run!
Nope! No moguls for me! 😳🤕😭
that did not look like much fun :D Cool new gloves btw
Volcom mitts! No glove sponsor for me unfortunately!
@@malcolmmoore it will happen, you are by far more interesting than any other dude that does the same.
Hi Malcoml, I have a question and hopfully you can kindly answer for me. In China, there is a trend that people really like the "Casi" Style advance turn. From a Basi point of view, can you kindly break down the key points such as benefit, how to do it, relevent technique in terms of Basi?
Best regards,
It has more to do with what the requirements are for instruction in what ever particular country you may want to teach in. Some want CASI, others might be good with BASI, but if you don't have AASI in North America you probably won't start off with much... if you get the job.
Looks pretty easy. 6/10, no rocks trees or other obstacles, wide open, moderate steepness. Even looking up at it from the bottom only looks very moderately steep 2:52
looking through a go pro and real life is a big difference, camera's have the tendanci to distort and make look flatter. But the biggest deal here is that it is a very icy piste, the piste is full north faced and doesn't get sun.
That what she said
Attention - very difficult run. (For very good skiiers)
And a ski school of little uns
I'm sore just watching this.
Hard work picking a line amongst those moguls😎. I wonder how that ski group did🤠
That one group was during a lesson, so they are probably good at doing moguls. They probably want to improve their techniques. Whenever I have taken lessons or am practicing techniques, it was always on easier trails for my abilities. Additionally, I have a tough time watching skiers do moguls because I feel pain when I do.
I bet they were surprised to see a snowboarder on that trail hehehe.
Moguls? I take it you have never been to Winter Park. The Jane side would eat those for a snack continuously and be like wut
Left those 7 yr old goslings for dust lol 😉
The camera makes the run looks mellow. I wonder if there is a way to correct this camera perception?
Most cameras that the average person will pick up will have this issue, especially a GoPro. The best way to get a true impression of how steep a slope is, is to have a film crew and a butt load of money in the camera(s)
Dat skiers always standing in groups in the middle of slope
Seriously! I hate that about skiers. I don't understand why it happens so much! I am a skier, and the main reason other skiers severely irritate me is because they are always standing around on slopes!
Hey, Malcom it’s nidecker supermatic?
Whaaaaat 😮
I'll give that 1 a miss, thanks lol
Ugh, sounds crunchy.
Hey Malcolm, I noticed around 2:15 and after when you’re going toeside your snowboard grips extremely fast, but then when going heelside you’re fighting for grip. Any tips to get heelside to grip faster like toeside?
Seems like I need them too! I could have slowed down a bit for more control, but that's not the name of the game with these headcam videos!
@@malcolmmoore makes sense thanks! I’ve been going on steeper and steeper runs this season and the concept of gripped turns has really helped, but I find I can get grip toeside faster than heelside. I’ll try angulating more and see if that helps. Cheers!
Might be because no ankle articulation on heel side so the legs are used more so though than toe side? At least for me I find it that way.
@@whothat4684 for sure, toeside is superior but curious what else we can do to get heelside to grip faster (ie more angulation, slow down, bring tail around faster/slower.. just some ideas)
@@rhoads0098 I struggled with heel side grip two outings ago. What helped me this last time was a little more aggressive high back lean and keeping my body more stacked. I need to work on shifting my weight back through the exit of turns though like Malcom taught in one of his videos. Slightly skidding when I try to be aggressive.
How's the weather holding up? Snow seems still kinda nice
End of season has brought the best snow of the winter!
Did you use go pro for this video?
From the shadow profile and video quality, that's probably a good guess
Hi Malcolm, I’ve been messing with my stance angles lately, switching from +21 -9 to +27 +15. In your opinion, if I don’t hit the parks a lot, what’s the negatives for double posi stance? I am confused right now. Thank you
That was common back in the nineties. Great for carving especially if you got big feet. Downside is riding switch becomes more like looking over your shoulder when driving in reverse. Doable but you got a bigger blind side.
If going through rough terrain or thick trees on generally steep terrain you will have quicker maneuverability with a positive and negative stance. That’s something I learned through some personal trial and error while working through different angles.
@@chrisinwood9041 thx mate
@@j.c.316 thanks a a lot
@Suz All around true. I’ve been riding +18, -12, but will be playing with some +15, -12 in the future 👍🏼
Man I got exhausted just by watching. Screw moguls.
Malcolm, is alp d'huez part of epic pass?
I don't think so, I'm not 100% sure though!
@@malcolmmoore I'm considering coming with my adult kids next season. Things always change, but as far as you know, you will still be instructions at d'huez? I was considering club med? Any thoughts on those accommodations vs renting air bnb or other ideas. Club med just makes the trip easy, one so shop.
Thanks!
Damn that's bumpy. I'm guessing it's also steeper than it looks on video.
I guess I'm just an old clueless guy. I don't quite get the point. There's nothing out of the ordinary in terms of your run. You're good. Is the point that this was marked only for expert skiers and the hill just wasn't that hard?
at 1:00 is the most French alps thing you'll ever see. An ESF guide taking a ski school of kids where they shouldn't be.
That's probably why all the French kids ski so well.
Why shouldn't they be there? The mountain I grew up on has bumps that make these look like nothing
@@jacobiwolf77 tell me you've never been to the French alps without telling me you've never been to the French alps.

What is the incline? 60 degrees or something?
Hell no, more like 29
60 can barely hold snow and is something you probably only see pros ski in ski movies
How is DADA after 2 seasons?
Oh boy, a real leg burner! Steep as f***!

You got Coca Cola sponsoring you now? 🥳
That was one tracked out run. Sign should have said not an snowboard type of run
Yeah, I would have been surprised to see a snowboarder on a trail like that
Apparently, you have never been to Winter Park/Mary Jane. If you can't ride bumps, which these wish they were, you will miss out on the best terrain
did u put the coke there?🤣
I've been snowboarding once and that didn't really look bad at all. I have to guess it's much steeper than it looks in the video though?
It's steep in real life but nothing overwhelming, not for beginners but nothing crazy.
Last time I did it it was not groomed on the flat section and you would have to walk a bit if you had a snowboard.
From my perspective, trails rarely look as steep as they are from downhill or lifts or on camera. However, standing at the top of a trail, it looks much steeper to me. Whenever I see moguls, I automatically think the trail is very steep.
It says, "warning: very difficult run". That's because of the moguls. It's basically a black diamond.
Man sounds icy and moguled. Where was this?
I thought I heard ice too a few times. And the snow was fairly light, but it didn't look like powder to me. But considering it was later in the season, it was not terrible.
"Très difficile"... and then there's a ski instructor with kids on the steep. lol
I'll admit that I haven't skied in a while, snowboarding was just becoming a thing, but that run looks easy compared to some of the runs I skied down at Winter Park/Mary Jane. Yes, I could see that moguls were starting to form, but I was used to ones that were knee high and would separate you from your ski if you hit it wrong.
Yep, I though the sign in this video was a cute touch after waiting for patrol to open the access gate to the Chutes
Never heard of the gopro effect then?
Brilliant, a snowboard scrapes down a bunch of moguls.
Would love to see a video for taking on hard packed moguls that are hips high
It's a good thing I snowboard, sign does not apply!
NAME of run, PLEASE
Video description 👆
I briefly ditched my mates and cut across a red down a black like this in courcheval this season.
Survivable but just genuinely not fun on a snowboard. Do expert skiers find this fun? because if not, what is it the point? Piste the bloody thing! 😬
To clarify, I really enjoy challenging Uber steep blacks as they require great technical riding to ride properly. You could argue this is the same, but they’re just very repetitive. Ride one mogul, you’ve ridden them all.
(I also wouldn’t do the same black more than once, I’d get back to the reds and cruisy blues to get back to having fun)
Mogul riding is the best riding to get you in great shape. Force yourself to do a run like this switch and you will see a massive improvement in your switch riding, all over the mountain. I start off every season lapping moguls to get back into shape. No tired legs on powder days
@@erniemckracken6530 Fair enough bud. I can see the merit in that. I live in the UK where my local resort consists of an indoor fridge, so don’t have the luxury of too many days warm in up! Need to get straight into the fun bit for the limited time I have on snow each year.
Yep, it's fun/fine on skis
I am a skier, and I would not have any fun on a trail like this. I hate moguls. I wonder if many skiers even enjoy moguls or just like to hear themselves bragging about it, lol
Atleast they are not in snowpark... ;D
Probably is warranted. If you stack it it's going to be a very bumpy and painful slide down to the bottom 😀It's a shame that video just never really captures just how steep those slopes are. I'm guessing it's at least 2 or 3 times steeper than it looks?
I totally agree with you!
Why?! 😮
Why not?
avg talabfahrt um 16uhr
Yep 👍
Also to everyone talking about moguls I'm confused, I didn't see any, this is basically windpack snow, kinda like Mammoth mountain. This is what moguls means to me
czcams.com/video/mBSS7Ac_3kc/video.html
The moguls in the video didn't seem as big as other trails would have, and they seemed more randomly placed.
Ah Gandy Dancer! One of my faves, though I am more partial to Coupler, skier's left if Gandy
Edit: my bad! I have a pretty good head injury, Drunken Frenchman is skiers left of Gandy Dancer, my head was over on the Back Side 😁
Ugh, a million moguls in a snowboard. (gag).

Without the Coke you would have made it 🤣
Taken out of context this sounds strange 😂
@@malcolmmoore yes 😂 good we ride 🏂 not ⛷️
You're riding blocked on your toe side, your arm shouldn't be in front of you, stops you rotating to heel
If you want a real challenge in some real bumps, not Hero Bumps, come to Winter Park, CO. When there, get yourself over to Hole in the Wall and hope the gate is closed, unless you're one of the first to get to there after patrol opens it up and there is still pow on it. The only bummer about Hole in the Wall is that it's too short
I think I went to a different hole in the wall, different experience entirely... 😳
@@malcolmmoore nope, my Hole in the Wall is a 65°-70° slope. If you're standing upright on your toeside, you can reach your arm staight out at 90° and touch the ground. Then half way down you have to decide what side of the rock to go around, most people go left because it gives you about 10 ft of room whereas the right side about 5 ft but generally has better snow because it's not getting skied off. Or, if you're first tracks you can drop the rock but that can be 40+ of unexpected air if you're going too fast
@@malcolmmoore so because someone called me out on something I said on another post here, I pulled up this video. It doesn't show Hole in the Wall though it does briefly show a sign for the Chutes, the area where Hole in the Wall is, but it should give a good impression of what I grew up on and still ride
