About the Festival:
The Rosen College of Hospitality Management at the University of Central Florida announces the upcoming Road to F.A.M.E. Festival on Thursday, November 9, 2023, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM. This highly anticipated event will feature an exciting lineup of over 40 influential speakers, engaging workshops, panel discussions, recruitment opportunities, live performances, food trucks, and even pro-wrestling matches.
One of the festival's main highlights will be a historic moment as SVP of Live Nation Concerts Southeast, Jim Mallonee, and SVP of AEG Presents Southeast, John Valentino, take the same stage after over 30 years of competition in the Southeastern United States. These two industry titans, who are undeniably among the most important and greatest concert promoters in Florida history, will come together for an exclusive panel discussion at the Road to F.A.M.E. Festival.
For the first time ever, Mallonee and Valentino will share their insights and experiences on one stage, creating a unique opportunity for attendees to gain valuable knowledge from their combined expertise. Moderated by a talented student from UCF's Pegasus Music Group, this two-on-one panel discussion promises to be a captivating and enlightening session.
Over the years, Mallonee and Valentino have attended numerous conferences, but their paths have never crossed on stage until now. The Road to F.A.M.E. Festival will provide a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness these industry powerhouses collaborate and share their wisdom with aspiring professionals and music enthusiasts alike.
Another major highlight of the festival will be a keynote session from Joey Fatone and Joe Mulvihill. Mulvihill, a 25-year veteran of the entertainment business, has become a force in the industry. With his diverse array of talents as a host, performer, producer, director, writer, and manager, Mulvihill's powerhouse expertise has been behind some of the biggest names in entertainment, including Universal Studios, *NSYNC, Boyz II Men, the Jacksons, and almost every major professional sports league.
Fatone is a renowned entertainer known for his successful music career as a member of the globally acclaimed, multi-platinum boyband, *NSYNC. Over the past decade, Fatone has found success as an actor, host, Broadway star, voiceover artis, dance, and media personality, with a number of hit television show under his belt, including “The Masked Singer,” “Dancing with the Stars,” and many more.
During the keynote session, Fatone and Mulvihill will deliver an inspiring and informative talk, sharing their experiences and insights on navigating the entertainment industry. This session will be a valuable opportunity for students and professionals seeking to pursue a career in entertainment.

    COGS should 100% be considered in merch settlements. I know for a fact that promoters use COGS as a deduction for themselves so why shouldn’t the artist?

    • @chrisgoyzueta

    Hello Chris, I’ve assumed the role of an artist manager and the artist has had some relevant local success but lost momentum along the way. I’ve recently had a meeting with a talent buyer at live nation who commended my boldness for reaching out for a “hold”. My question is how does an artist manager book festivals performances for their artists? What exactly I’m asking in industry term?

    • @chrisgoyzueta
      @chrisgoyzueta Před 2 měsíci

      This might be a good video idea for this Summer. You have to ultimately create value for your artist. Festivals like to see - 1. How much engagement you have on socials & spotify 2. Are you local or regional to the festival location (some support their local scene) 3. They a lot of times book smaller artists from the same agencies, labels, and management companies as their headliners - so the team makes a big impact. 4. Are you worth tickets in the area, and do you have a positive relationship with venues/promoters. 5. Do you have a relationship with the festival producers. Best plan of attack - 1. Put out good music 2. Test and run consistent ads to gain new fans 3. Build from a small venue, sell that out, patiently grow into the next size venues and don't move up until you're able to sell out the previous capacity 4. Put out consistent content 5. Be patience & be consistent over a long period of time. For some artists like the 502's, it might take 3-5 years to get on a Live Nation tour. For artists like Jelly Roll, it might take 10-15 years. There is a saying - you become an overnight success by being consistent for 10 years. Then you're "best new artist" even though you've been grinding for years. Hope this help! Got a little long in the tooth and passionate on this response. ha!

      @chrisgoyzueta Před 5 měsíci

      Not legal advice. For educational purposes only. Make sure to hire an attorney or tax professional to get what you specifically need for your business. In general, when someone is managing an artist, they don’t need any type of license in most states in the United States. An LLC is a great layer of protection along with general liability insurance. To book shows, every state has different laws. Some may require you to be a licensed talent agent to book shows.

    Hiw much do u as promoter get paid????

    • @chrisgoyzueta
      @chrisgoyzueta Před 6 měsíci

      Thanks for the question. There is no cookie cutter answer to this because as an independent you’re taking all the risk. You could lose $10k or make $10k on a show or anything in between pending how big the show is. And that’s at a 750 to 1,500 capacity range. The opportunity and loss gets much bigger the larger the venues get. If you’re working for someone - a Jr. Buyer should make $40-60k per year, club buyer $40-80k plus bonuses, Talent Buyer $75-100k plus bonuses, and senior buyer anywhere north of $100k per year plus bonuses. Just some guidelines. It all depends size of venues, number of venues, and if they’re in touring, just a region, or only a local market.

      @chrisgoyzueta Před 6 měsíci

      If you can get shows that venues want and they can’t or you can bring a venue volume, and run shows well, deals change very fast. I’ve received rebates or “promoter bumps,” or have given them to promoters when I was on the venue side. Very common in arenas, but definitely happens in clubs and theaters.

    Thank you for this and your other very helpful videos. In this one, I see that you did not include the Artist Guarantee as part of the Promoter's Expenses. Other discussions I have seen include that guarantee when calculating the Split Point. And then, if the Artist earns more than the guarantee on the split, the amount of the guarantee is added back into the Promoter's profit because they didn't have to shell that amount out (since the Artist got paid even more from the split alone). Could you please comment on this approach and why you prefer to leave the Guarantee out of the Promoter's expenses? Thank you!

    • @chrisgoyzueta
      @chrisgoyzueta Před 6 měsíci

      Hi - just replied to your email too - The guarantee is only included in the expenses in a Promoter Profit deal or also known as a Plus deal. On a versus deal, it's basically a greater than deal. Whichever is greater, the guarantee or percentage is what the artist receives. Let me know if this helps and if you have any other questions. Appreciate the comment and support!

      I’d need more context. What kinds of shows have you booked? National touring artists or local shows?

    Thank you for all of the information. it’s all really helpful especially if you’re starting from zero, that first step is usually the one you are most unsure of. A month ago I managed to get into my local venue which gets a lot of good gigs, big names and GV promoted shows. I am unsure of where to go from here. The venue is not necessarily owned by a major company but does work and is associated with some of the largest festivals in southern California (Coachella etc) I eventually would like to make something in this realm my full-time income just not sure what’s obtainable

      What are you doing at your local venue and what are you hoping to do in the long term? Apologies for the delayed response.

    I'm an aspiring Promoter and having trouble getting national artist. I've been donating my money to learn on the local level. I work for the best production company in my town. Can you teach me how to get in touch with the agents for the bands I need?
