  • Ticketmaster service fees and the ticketing industry, in general, have become a massive problem. For example, an artist using a Ticketmaster venue might have a $15 ticket to their show, but there is a $7.50 service fee making the gross ticket $22.50 to the fan. Meanwhile, tickets at the door are $20 even, and now your fans to buy at the door versus in advance. The issue with that is they may forget about the show because they're not financially committed.
Ari Herstand has written one of the best books on the music business for artists and managers, How to Make It in the New Music Business (link below). He's a successful artist, manager, author, podcaster, and educator in the music business. He joined me on this episode to discuss the challenges independent artists have with ticketing, show deals with promoters, and much more as we both offer lots of advice for listeners from the artist and promoter perspective.
