Kevin, can you explain the difference of thickness of a rattle can single or 2 stage vs that out of a spray gun? How to determine how much you can paint correct before burning thru?

Hi Kevin I started of life as a paint and body guy but life took a different direction and I spent 35 years as an elevator tech. Long story short last paint I used was single stage enamel. My wife recently closed the garage door causing damage to the clear. I plan on sanding out scratches and trying to blend, my question is if I sand into base do I have to shot base then clear or can I clear over original base. I have 38 years of experience in the furniture industry, and I have never or will use gloves while spray painting. Ppe everywhere else but there! I need the feel of the nozzle and can. I see some dudes use their thumbs to spray! JUST DONT! Gloves can melt just being near the paint and boom, you have your drip. The repair area usually sucks!

Buddy of mine painted his motorcycle with 99 cent walmart spray paint, two tone blue and white with black electrical tape between to break it up, sounds janky but it turned out amazing no one could believe it was cheap rattle can, it really is all about prep and the rite amount of paint. We wondered how long it would last being cheap paint but he had that bike about 5 years after and when he sold it it still looked really good..

When sanding the clear, I noticed you didn’t use a pad behind your sand paper?

I noticed you used a small screwdriver with the pad for the crevices …I was waiting for it to poke through and scratch the painted surface 😬. My thought was a wood dowel. You can grind the point to fit and have much less risk of creating more work by scratching the surface you are painting. Just sharing my thoughts…I love your content and the fact that you explain processes thoroughly 😁

Upol is the king of coatings, they have an entire line of diy products that actually last. They are far superior than Rust-Oleum and duplicolor, I've been using upol for almost everything and can't beat the quality sure that brand is a bit pricey but man is it worth it lol. Great job Kevin 👍🏼

Extremely informative! Water based cleaners before base coat: in the previous video you used glass cleaner then a commercial solvent based cleaner, in this video you used an unidentified water based cleaner that has isopropyl alcohol and then solvent based. Is there any difference in the two processes? If I were to spend thousands of dollars on top notch basecoat clearcoat system what is the best products and sequence? Thank you very much for your help.

I assume the reason it wouldn’t hold up as long is due to some UV protection in a 2K clear that the 1K doesn’t have? What kind of time frame difference do you think there would be for a vehicle that spends most of its time outside? 2 years vs 20? Six months vs 20? Etc?

why don't you get one of the paint can adapters that work like using a gun, it will eliminate drips

Wife backed into a friends car, hit right in the fender. I was able to use the color match camera at O'Reilly auto for a perfect paint match and then the 2k aerosol clear on it. Turned out amazing, I will freely admit I am a paint rookie, I have only used a spray gun one time in my whole life. I can completely vouch for what Kevin is saying here. You can get an amazing finish on small areas using spray cans. Nice work Kevin, thanks for all of the great content!

I paint models and hotwheels and use lots of duplicolor products, and love them, I’ve noticed that the auto stores are getting away from duplicolor and going to Upol, so I’ve been wondering how well it works.. and it works very well!! How would that Upol clear work on the rustoleum tank? I hate mixing products myself, I get lots of peel and end up starting over.

Why not spray 2K Spray Max afterwards to protect the base coat? That would still be Rattle Can with Protection

What would cause 2k clear to develop a lot of small cracks during drying? It was pretty hot outside and it dried in the sun. It was smooth immediately after spraying

I just learned why a spray gun trigger is designed nowhere near the nozzle tip.

I am a retired body tech. In the 70s and 80s we all painted our own jobs, no such thing as a painter. I always struggled with the wait time between coats I tended to rush things too much. You could get in lots of trouble on a synthol enamel overall paint job. Don't ask me how I know.
