- Derek and I were talking over some adult pops, and we both though it'd be fun to have me spray some paint on the @ViceGripGarage F100 Giveaway truck, so we set a date ( not really, we only had 4 days max) and got busy at my @paintucation shop! To say it was a thrash is understatement, but we got it done! We used @AxaltaCoatingSystems RIVAL paint, @ITWEvercoat fillers and primers, and topped it off with a @UPOLRaptor DIY bedliner. We logged about 80 hours, got sore arms, but made it happen! Here's my camera's worth of insight into some stuff that Derek may not have filmed. Enjoy!!

Thanks so much, Kevin! I had fun and learned so much!
Always thought Kevin was super cool from the tv stuff. Seemed like a dude who could say things in a way that was understandable by all who listened. Glad you guys collaborate man.
Derek, if I had to guess I'd say you never in a million years thought your passion would lead to a successful channel and opportunities to meet so many others in this industry. Love the collaboration's and the end results. Keep it going!
Thank You for sharing ViceGripGarage. I just subscribed to Paintucation. Man learned alot.
Derek you have such a down to earth channel about keeping these vehicles alive and well without breaking the bank. I’m a 60 year old man who turned wrenches back in the 80s for about 10 years. You take me back to those days.
What an absolutely stunning paint job with the colour matching bed liner.
Thanks for watching everyone!
Thank you for your paint and bodywork tips and tricks ! I worked in my dads body shop in the 70’s- 80’s we used lacquer paint back then . Boy things have changed !
you sound like you regret it a little bit you can here it in your voice
ha ha ha hit more times than joe Lewis
Thank you for the free lessons. Definitely things I will use in my vacation of working on my own stuff. I'm going to buy your course. Do you do a hands on where you are?
Thank you for the education.
I was a spray painter at Kansas City Assembly in 78. We sprayed thousands of Wimbledon White trucks that year. Maybe I helped paint that one.
Wouldnt that be cool!!!! ifit was you, you did a great job!!!
@@paintucation - It was a team effort. Ford used a 3-coat wet-on-wet process in 78 and there were 10 to 12 painters in the booth.
I remember watching Kevin on TV on Sundays, He taught us how to do your own bed liner in your truck. Way back in the day. Gave me Inspiration to do my own and turned out great. Thank you
Thank you Bill!
Am i the only one missing sound i the small clips where kevin is sitting down and talking?? Regards sören from denmark
Thanks, Kevin and Derek. Still learning at 61!
We never stop learning!!!
What an amazing collaboration. Loved watching you two guys work together.
Thanks bud!
Kevin you and Derek have to do more of these collaboration projects. You are a cool dude and fabulous instructor. The two of you together.... tremendous.
I've been watching Derek and Vice Grip Garage for quite a while now, and it wasn't until this truck project that I found this channel. Kevin and Derek are both excellent guys who do amazing work. I'm so glad you decided to do the bedliner.
Oh, yeah, I subscribed to this channel!
Thanks man! Gonna ramp up production here and get lots more videos out there. Stay tuned!
Mr. Tetz I wanted to say it has been an extreme pleasure to find you and your videos through Vice Grip Garage. I have subscribed and watched quite a few videos. Sir your personality, willingness to teach, and just being a fun gent is truly a blessing to so many people. I pray you, your wife, your family, and Paintucation are exceedingly blessed. I am looking forward to more videos and watching your subscriber count soar into the heavens. God bless you all! ~John
Thank you very much!!! CZcams is a new world to me, but im really enjoying the freedom of it. Thanks for your kind words!
@@paintucation You are very welcome and surely deserving!
New subscriber! That was awesome to watch. You’re a great teacher.
K T that truck looks awesome
Love that "Kimbleton" White. It's a brand-new "Uncle Jesse" Ford! You two did amazing work in only a couple days.
Thanks man i got like 7 chances to win this sweet truck. I needs a good beach fishing rig/daily driver.
I came over from VGG and subscribed awhile back. As someone who spent many yeas as an aircraft painter for the DOD, I really appreciate what you are doing, especially with safety equipment. I painted a lot of Jet aircraft and used a forced air suit and mask back in the 70's, 80's and 90's. I always cringed when watching Derek not use a facemask. So I'm really happy he's learned a thing or two from you.
I'm really glad I found your channel through Derek.. I'm also a Tennessee neighbor..Great job on the truck and much respect for all you do to share your wisdom..
One of those guys you just love watching.... and we have for years on tv.
Thanks jon!!! More to come soon
Another great video and congrats on the channel growth!
Thanks for working so hard on my wife's new truck!
😂
Lol😅😅😅😂
Man, that truck looks great!
Huge fan of both of you guys. You guys are awesome
I'm a Derek fan too! I really like what he does and how he goes about it with humor and grace... it's cool to be friends with him.
@@paintucation Oh I could only imagine! I wish I could do the things you guys do you are truly blessed and a master of your craft!!
Awesome job, Kevin!! Thanks for sharing.
Happy to post this!!! It was alot of work, but also alot if fun!
Kevin, I absolutely love your enthusiasm. It shows on camera that you truly enjoy what you do.
What i love most is seeing people figuring it out... when that light bulb goes off I feel like I've done my job. :)
You do outstanding work. Thanks for sharing and working with Derek.
I'm glad Derek's project brought me to your channel. I love learning all I can. Your a wealth of knowledge.
Just turned 70 painted my first car at 16, always more to learn. Thank you.
Let me know what you want to see!¡! We'll get some good stuff up here. Thanks for watching!
You are the Ultimate Teacher! You have a gift of making everything understandable and relatively simple to put into practice. Been a fan for many years.
I fully agree!
Great job 👍👍
Have been watching VGG for about a year and learning so much about Derek's world, and now we've been introduced to Kevin's side of things and the collaboration is GREAT. Body prep and paint seem to entail a lot longer learning curve, but you make it look possible for the average guy. Can't wait to learn enough to actually try it myself.
I wish I had a shop like that !
OMG,I've been doing body work and paint since 1987. This is exactly the way I do it. It made me feel proud that I'm at least on the same playing field with an expert like Kevin.
It's hard to believe that's the same truck from a few days ago. Just an amazing job!
I’ve watched your work a long time Kevin, you’re awesome. And working with Derek just makes me like you more!
Thanks very much!
The collaboration we needed and didn’t even know it!
👍👍
I watched the bedliner upload a few days ago, then Dereks upload last night, now this! Great work. So much knowledge shared from you on this project. You and Derek worked great together! Truck looks awesome! Hope to see you two work together again!
Watched Derek’s video last night. Enjoyable and educational!
Kevin, you are THE MAN. I have been watching you for DECADES. So knowledgeable, inspirational and positive. The world (particularly, the gearhead world) needs more of you! Keep up the great work, and thank you for always helping the rest of us!
That means alot! Thank so much. :)
Awesome collaboration! You guys are great together, enjoyed both of your videos tonight with the wife. Enjoy the wobble pops!
Subbed after seeing you over on VGG. What a paint job and loads of tips from a 35 year paint vet. Thanks Kevin.
Both of you shooting a video while you work, awesome. I'm getting a 2fer.
I asked Derek, he said... "go for it!" We still managed to get some video shot with all that had to be done on that truck... I'm a huge fan of VGG and what that feller accomplishes!!!
Glad ti see this channel on CZcams. I learned a ton from you and paintucation. I painted my first car about 5 years ago. Tons of compliments and offers to paint other cars. All the steps came from paintucation! Getting close to painting my next project. Thanks for all the help
The finished product is absolutely stunning. Thanks to Kevin for really taking care of Derek. Whoever wins the F150 is going to be a very lucky.
Great videos guys, watched both of them. Was a blast watching you two work together.
Great job Kevin
Been watching you over the years and as usual your work and knowledge is awesome
Thanks for the knowledge, entertainment and encouragement
You guys really put some work in! The truck looks amazing!
So glad to see Derek is working with you, hopefuly it will help the chanel grow!! I for one am looking forward to learning from you!!!
I have been a follower of you for years. I'm a retired old guy, and a hobbyist painter for 40ish years.
My skills were sketchy at best, but I paid attention to tons of your "How to" video's and learned a lot ! I think even back before you were with Eastwood.
I learned how to set up my shop air and how to set up a spray gun and spray, I still use your technique to this day...
Never. got to thank you...
THANK YOU !!
Happy to see you get with "Vice-grip" been. subbed to him for several years.
James
Thanks very much James!!
As someone who started prep and spray finishes 40 years ago I can appreciate all the work it takes to get a high quality finish. Well done gentlemen.
These CZcams channels are great! No BS scripts, real time ,real life scenarios , hanging around the shop with fellow motorheads !👍🇨🇦
Well done as always. Appreciated seeing you two working on this project together.
This was such a fun collab to watch. I've been watching you on powernation since i was a kid, funny enough i found my way back to you through VGG. That F100 looks killer! Nice work fellas!
This was an amazing collaboration between the 2 of you. The turnout so far looks phenomenal, I'm sure I speak for all of us we look for more of this kind of content in the future.
Quick and dirty. Better than most jobs meant to be precision. Kevin is the best paint and body guy, bar none.
I'm still a student! But I love to learn more. When we stop learning we're pushing up Daisies! LOL!
This truck looks great! I’d drive it!
what a great collab. Derek picks the best people to work with, and this was no exception. Kevin, your enthusiasm is contagious, and so much fun to watch and learn from, and your passion for the craft is without a doubt inspiring new generations to come. I love the oldschool trucks no matter what make/model, and it is great seeing this sweetheart get a new chance at life. Thanks Again, Kevin. You Rock.
Thanks for all you do!! I wouldn't have thought to look for you without your work and input in this build...... Subscribed!! BTW, The Copperhead build is probably one of my favourite builds over the years.
Glad this collaboration with Derek is paying benefits. Estimating you had about 100 man hours over the 4 days at (CA) shop rates that's between $15k and $20K in labor not including materials. That's a lot of funding to buy paint and tools if you do it yourself. A tip is to buy stuff like cutoff wheels and sandpaper and chemicals in quantity when you can, instead of small quantities when you have too. It saves money and it doesn't hurt as much when you have it on the shelf. Even doing it by yourself, in most cases, the cost of painting a car exceeds the value of the car, so you may have to include 'something' for a significant other to keep them on board with the project.
Not really, a harbor freight paint gun, tractor paint, not quite professional body work and you can do a great job with single stage paint for a few hundred $$ afterwards I sold my sander & paint gun to a friend making it even cheaper.
This has been fantastic to watch the both of you knock this truck out. I grew up watching you on the weekends, now its like reliving it all over again. I saw that green Mustang you built a few years back at Mustang Week that had the newer mustang headlights molded in and all. Fantastic job.
Glad Derek let us know about this channel. I spent so many weekends enjoying watching Kevin do amazing things with vehicles. Glad he is doing videos on CZcams!
My two favorite car guys on one episode, such an amazing video guys.
As a body shop owner, painter and collision repair tech for over 20 years I can honestly say you guys did an amazing job in such a short amount of time, Kevin there is no substitute for experience and I could tell immediately that you have an invaluable amount of it, guys like you are getting hard to find and I was happy to see a painter who uses the proper safety equipment when painting, I see so many people spraying catalyzed material wearing only a particulate respirator and it's not only unprofessional it's just plain foolish, outstanding work.
Probably one of the best collaborations! Would be star struck by both. Thank you both for doing what you do.
Good to see you at it after all these years! I wish you the best with your channel and paint school.
As a "kid" who watched you on TV for many years, I can't tell you how valuable this collab with Derek has been for me and my project. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! The sharing of experience just in these two videos has taught me volumes on where I went wrong and what I can do better.
Beautiful work on a beautiful truck! I’ve been an industrial sandblaster and painter for over 20 years, I’m thinking I want to move over to the automotive side of things! Things like this inspire me to keep learning and progressing! Great videos!
Also, been watching you for years, I love the channel and new content!
Wow I love everything about this truck! From the color to the best engine ford ever made!
I've painted houses and stuff all my life. It's pretty neat to hear you talk about painting the way you do. Nothing like taking something that's seen better days and making it look new or even better than new.
getting the inside of the bed done good would have been gold
My two fav Car Guys on CZcams on one project! Fantastic! John
This has been an awesome project from both of you guys. Kevin you are truly a pro brother!!! I've learned so much in just a few minutes between you and Derek's videos. Awesome job and incredible abilities!!!!
Used to watch you on Trucks! back in the day! This is super cool to see. This is next generation car guy stuff it's great!
CZcams is waaaaaaay mo e fun than TV ever was!! Hope you've subscribed, we got some good stuff coming. :)
I must say it is refreshing to see you not making it showroom new. You could see how much you wanted to not let a dent or any imperfections pass by. Hats off this was awesome
Thank you!! Some people jumped on a few things we missed... but that wasn't the point of this... we just didn't have 6 months to blow it apart and "restore" every little detail. Don't misunderstand... I want ALL the feedback good and bad, but we had a goal of "improvement" and not so much a goal of perfection. Glad you enjoyed the video! Somebody gonna get a nice trucK!
@@paintucation I am definitely entering it did turn out awesome
I'm digging the videos. ❤
It was cool to see you guys working together, i remember watching you on Sundays Kevin! You have taught me a lot over the years! Thank you for what you do!!! Oh,truck looks great!
Thanks man! Hope you subscribe to my channel here! I'm having a blast with CZcams!
Hey Kevin - grew up watching you on Trucks! and just watched your bedliner ep and the VGG episode. I’ll be using your techniques on my own Mustang project soon, so keep up the good work. For me, just a weekend warrior, this content is gold. 👍👍👍
Used to do them 3 day tree-row to tree-show body and paints back in the day. Many great memories with friends, and those friends that didn't get theirs hands dirty, were always on cold snack duty and kept us going. Nice job and thanks for the flashbacks
That turned out amazing I’ve had a bunch of those dent sides and can’t imagine how hard it would be to do body work with those curves!
Kevin great to meet you Derek is great and well be watching you now as well.
Just watched VGG video and had to come over to watch your video’s ! Nice truck !
Great work guys. Excellent teacher!!!
Awesome. Always watch your talents on TV! Professional Level!!
Dang it turned out great!! I was a little confused at first because it looked yellowish/ tan sitting in the booth😂
That’s just gonna be a straight up good ole driv’n truck for another 50 years! 👍🇱🇷
Amazing. Great color, and I hope this becomes someone's weekend (no winters) dream machine. I can picture this rig pulling up to Pop's Clam Shack in Alton Bay, New Hampshire.
That bed side was hammered, and you did an excellent job fixing it. Vice Grip Garage (Derek) is the reason I have now subscribed to your channel.
Looks great Kevin. That "Daily Driver" paint job is top shelf.
Painted Copperhead that must have been so special! Copperhead is an amazing truck
Nice give away Derek - THX for your help Kevin
Beautiful job Kevin. You and Derek looked like you 2 worked well together and had some fun doing it.
You can tell when people such as Kevin and Derek like to help educate others. Cool stuff, subbed and belled!
I watched the entire Copperhead build with Stacy David, that truck is absolutely stunning, i had a 70 c10, i paid 500 dollars for it, and drove it, for 10years..Copperhead will always be my favorite, nothing will ever come close, but i really do appreciate what V.G.G does, pull an old vehicle from the depths of hell, and put them back on the roads..hats off to you Kevin for laying down the most beautiful paint on the incredible Copperhead..
Awesome to find this channel through VGG.
Great bunch of guys beautiful paint job
Love Wimbledon white! That’s what my crew cab is. Sounds like it was a dent side in more than one way 🤣
Watched him build the truck...you paint it. Got a new follower..cool show and I dont even paint.
Right on! thanks Mark!!!
every sunday I watched kevin on trucks! it so cool to see these guys together doing these projects! both you guys are awesome!
Why do you look familiar, thanks for the video, love you Derek ❤️
Hello Kevin, Derek, from central Alberta Canada. I also checked out Derek’s channel, well you both got me hooked I have now subscribed to both your channels. I have to say you both complement each other very well, thanks for sharing the video.. Take care, Wayne
