- Stay Tuned and Vice Grip Garage are TEAMING UP! Derek's 1967 (that he's never seen) has been sitting dormant in PA for 30-40 years and it's time to bring that sucker back to life. First it needs a powerplant! Watch Tony Angelo and the Stay Tuned gang whip together a nasty Ford Small Block that should get the job done and then some! Remember, DON'T TELL DEREK!

Need that on a shirt or a sticker "we're a pizza shop with a race car problem "
😂
Would definitely buy that Stay Tuned shirt
@@aarongrattafiori617 Same here!!
agreed!!
I would buy that shirt
Yes
For the amount of things you guys do, an episode a week is pretty damn ambitious! Keep it up but don't burn yourselves out.
looks like a solid 87-92 Ford HO 5 liter. all small block Fords have Forged connecting rods, 85-92 HO engines have Factory TRW pistons and a metric ring pack(1.5/1.5/4/0). cranks were all cast other than the Boss 302/tunnelport 302 back in 68-70. will make a lot of fun. have a 67 Fairlane in paint Jail right now and cannot wait to get it back together. Love the channel, sent you guys some pizza, hope you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the info and for the pizza! Appreciate it!
Ohhhh my C4 Corvette had TRW forged slugs too
Bro has a turbo on his 5.0 HO in a Foxbody.
That's too bad.... The TRW's are heavy ass slugs.
@@davelowets so is ur mom 🤪
I feel old today…because I remember watching TNN - The Nashville Network- on weekends, where the old school car TV shows would hop up Ford 302s every other week…and here we are, with TA and crew, on an archeological rebuild, with this ancient beast. Great job, guys, love the channel.
I hear ya. Do you remember when Kenny Bernstein cracked the 300 mph record?
Why did you not put in new rings, and bearings? 👍🇺🇸🤪
It's great to see two of my favorite channels working together. I know the saying "don't meet your heroes" but Derek, Tony and the guys all seem solid.
Yeah im the best fan ever. I could be standing right next to them and wouldnt say a word. I dont like bothering people. Its more of a me thing. I get annoyed when people bother me and project that onto other people.
Can't go wrong with adding some Cleetus in that. See Derek and Tony doing a build at the Freedom Factory and Cleetus getting out and ripping it around the track.
I just met Tony and Derek last night and they are very nice and love to have a chat
Just got home after being stuck in bumper to bumper traffic for an hour and a half. Thanks for waiting for me boys!! Ha ha. Definitely Beer and a Slice Time! Ready to Stay Tuned! 🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥
Maybe a few beers tonight after the traffic!
I hate traffic……drove me to an early retirement…..literally
Same for me ! Love seeing these guys are chevy guys like me but we work on ford's to keep them going and beat on in races 😂😂😂
@@StayTunedTAYou ain’t kidding man. This video was a good start. 🤘🍺🍕
@@trentdawg2832I loved traffic. Kept me from being home with my ex wife lol.
Doesn’t matter what it is. If it’s making power and on Stay Tuned I’m watching! 🔥
Damn... what a Friday night! Got 45 min of Tony and then 2 hrs of Derek! Woohoo! 😂
Dudes. We love you. Now give us more v12 mustang. You have no clue how bad we all want to see and hear that car.
Back on that thing next week!
@StayTunedTA hell yeah brotha!!
@@StayTunedTA nice 👍👌
Pretty ballsy firing it up without checking PTV. And why did you order longer pushrods if not using them?
@@brettallender8791so many sbf have been done that you know what combos you need to check ptv on
that guy in your intro clip was super legit... that cigar and the look on his face was perfect!
It has 10 million views yes it’s classic.
That is a CLASSIC!
him name is Buster, he's from my home town. he used to hangout at my shop occasionally.
PokeChop and PopCawn in that intro💪
Stay Tuned! Great way to start the weekend! Hey Tony, i get to see the Dad Rod occasionally, in S.Oregon, as a Coworker is the current owner!
Been a subscriber to Derrick since back when he was skinny. Glad to see him keeping you guys afloat. Half joking. Love ya both!
HAHAHA nice.
That comment was uncalled for everybody floats in their own way nobody keeps afloat
@@pierreblackbird5523 I mean he is kind of right though the only reason the youtube algorithm suggested this video to me is because I'm a VGG viewer. After checking out some of their other videos I'm glad it did because a feller is defiantly sticking around!
anybody sitting on a legit NASCAR motor probably doesn't need help floating, douche.@@StayTunedTA
I like both, but I watch stay tuned more than VGG. I’d even argue that T/A probably had a bigger audience on HRG than Derek did on VGG. Derek’s channel has been kicking around for a while, while Stay Tuned is only a couple years old, I think right? I mean it’s cool Derek is giving them more exposure, that’s a win-win, but I think these dudes would’ve kept growing and hit it big either way.
Tony was on fire with the quips this episode. I hope that Jellyfish got dinner and a movie ahead of time
I love my Saturday mornings, sit out on the verandah with a cuppa and watch some stay tuned.
Hell yea, sounds killer!
Saturday morning cartoons to Saturday morning Stay Tuned.
And Mom is still waiting for us to grow up 😂
Great to see You Guy's doing content with VGG. Always cool to have two of the shows You enjoy working together. Cleeter has brought lots of community & creators together. 👏👏👏 😁👌
You most likely already know but the lower head bolts go into the water jackets .... maybe they wont leak i always use the permatex thread sealant on the threads just a fyi brother love the co tent
Did you not see them using the sealant wow
Houston Knight of
Buffalo, NY. He's a trip!
(The black guy zooming the Chevy engine.)
I've only installed 390, 351, 400 Cleveland, 302 HO intakes using the end gaskets supplied, also gasket sealers at the corners, None of them moved or leaked. I have, however, seen others have to clean off and re-squeeze because they neglected to lower evenly. You do you.
Never in my life (48) known anyone to use the provided end gaskets on any pushrod Ford, myself included and have never had an issue...
Only 69 myself, when I started ,gasket in a tube was more expensive, over applied, under cleaned surfaces (still happens) and the readily available formulas broke down faster. I have tried gasket sealant on rear end covers, Ford recommended, and had to clean that and use 'paper' gaskets with the giat as insurance to stop the seepage. It Is easier with a squeeze gun to get consistent beads now though. You do you, just throwing my 2 cents in.@@02autogt
I can't wait to see this S/T and VGG collaboration. My 2 favorite automotive toobers. Derek is so wholesome and family friendly but still genuinely funny. You guys should have totally built the motor with the "it's the 90's and I'm trying too hard" valve covers, air cleaner box and accessories and what not to get his reaction. The subtle "hey this is just a boneyard 302 with a Craigslist rebuild" is pretty good too though since he's good for that. Either way, can't wait to see you two blast that blue oval together this coming week or the next. I do love my Fords. Thanks for the great content brother!
What is VGG?
Disregard that, I figured it out 😂
Only the best show on youtube lol
Saving the shop one day at a time! Y’all rock! Time to enjoy the weekend with my favorite shop!
Hey Tony. One of my buddies that I worked with at the a Ford dealership raced a late 80's T-bird with a HO mustang used engine. He cammed it and when checking the internal parts he found the stock Ford rods were harder then the aftermarket Pink rods. So, those stock internals are very good.
The HO came with forged pistons until 1993. These are my favorite builds!
Nice sniff and channeling your Derek (VGG)Vibe in this build !!! Buddy of mine had a 67 Ford Fairlane 390 4spd. The dark green color !!! He lost his license to drive (too many exhibition of speed and speeding tickets)!!! He let me drive but when he wanted me too hot rod it he wanted to do the shifting !!!LOL😅 He missed second gear , I told him let me do the shiftin after that I was doing the driving and shifting and man that was a fun car to drive !!! He got his license back & Traded that for a 70 Plymouth Roadrunner (that neon green) 440 4spd he kept his license and didnt let anyone drive the Roadrunner !!! Good memories !!! Thank you Tony and crew !!!
Very cool to do that for your friend, 350-400 hp with that big of a car is actually both practical and fun.
2 of my favorite car CZcamsrs coming together. Love it. Just need to get Mr Mike Finn involved and that will be all three of my favorite car guys on CZcams.
how Derek finds or makes time to get his hands on as many rides as he does is amazing. those Bieris never stop or sleep…like that creepy well girl from ‘The Ring’ but, in flannel & with a mullet.
This is awesome, 67 Fairlane has been my dream car forever, and two of the coolest and my favorite channels collabing on it. Going to enjoy sitting back and relaxing to watch this build!
the Jellyfish pregnant line was pure gold haha. Looking good guys! :) Keep it up!
Tony I highly recommend Supper scrapers for cleaning gasket surfaces and cylinder block decks. They are a game changer!!! A flat bar of carbide on the end of a scraper. I build Diesel engines for a living and don’t know how I got by before I found these things. Love the channel!!
Did a similar build a couple years back...used Trickflow 170 heads, Lunati Voodoo hydraulic roller cam, and Edelbrock Victor Jr intake with a Sniper efi...forged pistons,
It was just a 306 ci, but it was a ripper! Man I miss it..sold the 76 F100 it was in for a Aluminum Hemi block! Wow...haven't got that going yet 😢
Tony, you and Derek are my go to every week. Appreciate all the hard work you and your guys do.
Heck yeah, this is awesome. I can't wait to see Derek head up your way to put this motor in.
Great video!!! I actually did this for my 1950 merc. but I didn't do heads and cam I kept it stock but now I will be calling summit. I love how you keep it a variety of engines you guys do
Great video, you manage to keep the projects interesting but tangible. Keep up the great work exciting to see you work with Derek. Channels like yours really drive home how much work it takes but it's possible.
Nice work guys!!!! I am sure Derek will be mind bottled. Love the way the auto and youtube community help each other out. If the rest of the world could figure that out we would be great. I am now a fan of Stay Tuned!!!!
Just got my stay tuned sticker.
Love to see more of the v12 header build.
Love the show...keep up the awesomeness!!
Right on! Thanks for supporting!
Sounds Awesome..
Loyal VGG fan here..
Just found your content from it flowing into it after a 2 hour VGG F100 interior redo.
I'm clicking subscribe now..
Great Job guys.
The first clip of the intro is why im here. The old video is treasure. Lets go VGG and Tony!
love those stay tuned coveralls, i want that for working on the cars. take a shot everytime they say "dont tell derek"
Recently hopped up an 86 302 Windsor on my channel. Found out the hard way that 86 was a 1 year only flat top piston. Had to cut my own valve reliefs 😮.
Went with flo tek heads, eddy 650, TFS cam, and single plane. DOUBLED THE RWHP. Its all on my channel from baseline dyno to budget build warrior. These little motors rock!
This makes me wonder what ever happened to the 350, 4 bolt I took out of a 1972 GMC half ton back in the early 80s. It spun a crankshaft bearing and me and a couple of friends rebuilt it in high school auto class and put it in a 69 nova. That thing was a screamer. Great memories.
Waited til I was back home, from "vacation", so I could enjoy some Stay Tuned in 4k, on my big screen, with a cold snack. You guys did not disappoint. Thanks fellas!! 🍺
@17:49 I do that! I use laquer thinner to get any oils off them. Great video guys.
Yesssss! Happy Friday ST crew! What another excellent way to end the week :D
Let's GOOOO!!!!
Great video. Ive got an '87 roller in my 31 Street Rod. This gives me some ideas when it ever needs to come out and get freshened up. Drive em if you got em.
I have that F cam in my ‘86 GT. T-5. It’s awesome! I love it.
I know its not supposed to be an all ford channel, but I love to see it
Wouldn't be nothing wrong with an all Ford channel. God knows CZcams is full of people and their ls motors..
Im so glad that you are making vids you and Derek talk like I do and you dont lose me in to much tech if you know what I mean at any rate Im lovin your content keep up the great work lol.
Hey guys, quick tech tip. If you spray your gasket with 3M weatherstrip adhesive one part and one side of gasket, then grease other side, you will eliminate alot of leaks, hold your gaskets in place,it dries flexible ect... . Just a old trick I learned after working on cars for over 40 years. Keep up the good work guys, love the content. Would love to see more on the Porsche, like ps,ac, ect.
Amazing episode! Cant wait to see this thing running on the car.
By the way... Thank you Tony. It was indeed the knocking sensor. My astro is running normal again! Much appreciated!
lol I had a 69’ cougar when I was 16. By 18 it was 30 over head porting intake 280h comp cam and 11.1 compression ran great she’s sat for awhile but I got a bigger cam now had to rebuild the C6 hopefully I didn’t mess that up and I’m replacing the drums for front disks it’s a good time
I think Derek is gonna notice the heads! He’s pretty sharp I bet he notices there’s no freeze plugs in the front 😂, either way that’s going to be a little rocket of a 302 for the galaxy! Can’t wait to see the episode when you guys work on it together! Loving the content boys!!
This is going to be a great episode. I clicked on it first over the VGG episode just because I was so interested
A spicy Aresol Overhaul in a 67 Fairlane. You two are going to blow Derek's mind. Already a fan of Tony's but did not know about this channel. New subscriber from New Hampshire
You guys rocked it on the thumbnail. PA Proud keep kicking butt.
Obvious talent and charm can only take you so far... it's the humor and interest that makes these videos 🤣 👍
Extra wicked throttle blips with no flywheel or accessories!! Souds badass !! Nice work fellas !! 🍻
Using an electric drill to chase threads will never stop setting my machinist alarms off haha
HAHA I was the same way until I saw Lucky do it like 80 times and I finally said "OK FINE".
@@StayTunedTA It can be done lol you just have to know what you’re doing. I won’t even start a screw without turning it backwards by hand first or at the very least spinning the drill back a little til it falls into the thread.
I’m just trying to avoid installing a damn helicoil
I love the idea of taking new aluminum parts and painting them to look original. I've got a 70 Mercury Cougar with a 351 Cleveland that I am slowly getting put back together. And every time I work on it or replace a part, I try to make it look a little more original. The idea in my mind is that when you open the hood, at first glance everything looks original. But with aluminum parts where I can (Intake, heads, water pump). I have even upgraded the original radiator from an original 20 inch 2 core copper/brass to a 24 inch (Big block radiator) 3 core aluminum radiator that looks original and uses the factory mounts and fan shroud. Painted the radiator semi gloss black. Looks like it came in the car.
Hey man, I dig all the eff words y'all are working on. I didn't see what you installed but if that cam is a true billet cam you need a hardened thrust plate to retain it. The stock soft one won't work and it'll chew through the thrust plate and contaminate the engine. Just recently had to deal with this very thing on my 408. Hopefully it's not an issue. Keep up the good work and keep her between the ditches.
Definitely looking forward to the collaboration, yall are both my favorite channels on CZcams
love this stay tuned channel ,i am into it because its stayed true to its roots ,its relatable its informative ,theres no baby talk no part time stand up comedian routine theres no floggin the same joke over and over and theres definetly no silly childish names for engine parts like sparkalators chargin whirlers ,some channels stay true others sell out and become bland and highly predictable
"Smells like someone got a Jelly Fish pregnant in here"! hahahahahahaha! Dude, that made me spit up some of my beer!
Love it,man!! At :19 seconds, it sounds like someone tapped the notification bell😂! All right! Firing open headers in the middle of the night makes 'em twice as loud.
that's one badass small block 302, I have a 1996 Ford F150 with a 5.0L (302) Windsor V8 with 210,000 miles on it and still going strong.
Fantastic build! Don’t tell Derek!!! Very instructional for jr. gear-heads. Maybe do a small block Chevy? Fun guys to hang with…
So glad you scrapped those factory E7TE heads. Can't have spicy with those boat anchors.
What a way to spend a Saturday morning watching this! You guys rule!
Derek is a great collab partner with how much you guys appreciate the more realistic budget end of fun builds, really looking forward to that 🥰
This is really informative as I have an '89 motor to shove in a 280z, and it needs some work
Would love to see an old body style turned into a modern drift car! Maybe an early 80’s or late 70’s Monte, late 70’s or early 80’s Corvette something from that Time period Drift Missile! Something to think about. Awesome Channel love what you guys are doing!!! Keep it up!👍🏼 😊
Seems like I have to re-subscribe every time I watch Stay Tuned! Love y’all’s content. I was just down your way a couple weeks ago buying a fresh rebuilt T5 for my SN95 Mustang. Keep it crazy guys!
Awesome! Thank you! I dunno why you have to resub but I appreciate it!
Awesome! Thanks very much
for sharing! from MLT, WA
my brother Derek and I have been doing this exact thing for the last two decades in an 82 GL mustang that got the RECARO GT wrecker build.. intake was a challenge with the H.O to 302 difference but we got one that pulsed well eventually. I don't know what stage it's at now but it's got a modified t45 trans with an automatic rear posi 8.8 and gets really good mileage still
I had a VF500F interceptor. What a great bike. I wish I still had it!
Those little 302 can make some good power back in the 90's my friend had a 1986 GT and we put a set of heads and a cam in it and changed the rear gear to a 3.73 I think it was and had a 5 spd top loader trans and that car use to move for being a little 302. Those were in the days when everyone owned a fox body mustang except me I drove a 72 road runner at the time but everyone in my hometown had a lx or gt foxbody it was bad lol!!
So what your saying is? "Don't tell Derrick"! 😂 This is awesome been following Derrick since velocity channel and you on motor trend. Your both my favorite builders.
Wow! Wheres the beef?!? Omg blast from the past. Quality content as always boys!
I am so happy this came up in my recommendations and I noticed the VP/Derek name-drop in the title as it got me a great new channel subscription.
86-92 Mustang 302 engines have TRW forged pistons 86 has true flat tops with no valve reliefs.
We always used 86 pistons & fly cut valve reliefs in them when possible. With a engine that many miles with good cylinders we always took block to machine shop honed cylinders out. Resized rods with ARP rod bolts. Polished or turned crank.
Used file fit rings & all new bearings.
Because we spray them 175 shot constantly or run 12-16 pounds boost on them.
Never split a block. Always kept them under 6250 rpm.
I was freaking out with the tap running in the head bolt holes. You gotta double groove a stock head bolt with a cut off wheel first, then hand tap them. Those taps are so hard and shear so easy.
Such fun! Heck of a build, should be a great surprise! Wondered if ya checked the bearings when we weren't viewing? (Gotta assume, lol!). I won't tell Derek, but not sure I can wait without jitters, hoping for the rest of the videos!! Thanx !
Love the content, you guys are absolutely living the dream, keep Hot Rodding alive.
As a midwest guy, I have mad respect for an eastcoast guy who also uses Dewalt tools. Stay Tuned!
Awesome vid!!! Huge Fan when you were on the TV wont mention where LOL....big Vice Grip fan.... Yall crack me up :)
Can’t wait to see the look on Derek’s face when he hears this thing. You and the guys are killing it Tony. Love the channel.
Best channel on CZcams!
Fun fact, you and my wife were born on the same day 😅. Different states of course.
Best entertainment on a Friday night! Keep up the great content love it!🙏
Bro great video and thank you!!I'm getting ready to do a FFR FIA 289. With the engine and trans from a Fix body. Was wondering how to do efi to carb. Great stuff!
Just got home from spending several hours at the hospital 👎. This was a nice surprise to see a video from you guys. Thanks for the entertainment. I can't wait to see the V12 mustang content again.
i hope you get well soon
Awesome stuff as always!!!! 🇺🇸💪🏼 I love the SBF content!!! Just a heads up but some 2.02 intake valve will touch the radial side of the valve relief of the stock TRW H.O pistons. Im sure everything will work out tho!!!! 🇺🇸💪🏼
I really dig the fact that you guys (VGGG, and the roadkill family) do collabs. You all bring a different flavor and it works. Cool beans, or something..
Great idea. Can't wait to watch this engine go into that car!
It looks good. Sometimes when mom is cooking sauce on Sundays you have to toss in a handful of chili flakes to spice things up a little. Im pretty sure Derek is going to notice something.
Dereck is one Humble Fella.. So glad yall are doin this for him
This going to be AWESOME!!!!!! HELL YEA!!!! You are making me want to put that engine in my Crown Vic!!!. Lol. Man it's going to be a bad a**episode brother. I can't wait.
This is the down and dirty content that every gear head truly enjoys. Keep it going!
Those VFR Interceptor are one of the BEST sounding bikes ever! Especially the gear driven cam ones. Like a pissed off little V8!
For a second thought it was the legend again, good one thanks Tony.
I had my fill of vice grip garage a couple of years ago. I like Tony's channel a whole lot better.
