- I asked you to send me some questions you'd like addressed on Paintucation By Kevin Tetz.... WOW! I'm humbled by the response! We got cracking and wrote them all down so I can get a good well thought out answer for you. I've got several demos to go along with these answers, so i's not like alot of Q&A where All I do is talk. We're gonna do LIVE Q&A s well, but this will get us started! I've been coaching people in the DIT auto painting space for decades now, and it all comes together right here!!!! Derek Bieri has taught me a ton about this CZcams thing, and between him looking over my shoulder once in a while and you guys guiding me on content, I think we can get a great DIY Channel going here! stay tuned! Stay subscribed!!! We're just getting started!

THis is the first of many Q&A sessions... I feel like this is a good idea, but I don't know until you guys show me by watching, increasing views, and subscribing. I'm HERE! I'll put in the work! I just wanna do what works best for you all :)
Dude an hour of Kevin, how awesome! Really excited seeing the ramp up in the youtube content!
Dude, I'm committed!!!!
Nothing like a super informative “Tetz Talk” thanks Kevin!
First... I think it's cool that you have mentioned Vice Grip Garage in last several videos. I really enjoyed watching you 15 20 years ago on different shows but for me you kinda disappeared. But from watching Vise grip garage is where I found you again and so very glad I did. Your opinion, what are good budget friendly guns for DIY.
P.S.. But not junk. Just your opinion? Thanks Kevin👍
Derek Moved down this way a couple years ago.... it tool a minute but we found each other. He's a great dude, very smart, and we're working together on a couple things. It's interesting.... I never disappeared but I did fall out of the typical channels and I didn't put enough time into CZcams because I didn't understand it. I do now.... it's a POWERFUL tool!!! We're here to do some good work! stay tuned!!!
@@paintucation Awesome, glad to hear that. Can't wait to learn more from you. I'm nothing but a DYI amateur, but you have great 💁 for even me👍

Thanks!!! :)
This is great, Kevin! Been painting cars for over 45 years - never too old to learn! Looking forward to more of your teaching! Thank you!
Kevin is the reason I learned how to paint in the garage with my dad.
Hey Kevin! Thanks for all of your extremely helpful information over the years! cheers from New Zealand👍
Glad it was helpful!
Kevin, thank you!
I love this! And look forward to more!
Great video. I wish I had this opportunity when I started out years ago. Im still learning new things from you. Thank you Kevin.

Thanks, will do!
Watching from NJ
Cool
Good stuff, Kevin! Keep it coming.
The Q&A series is very informative and educational. Keep it coming.
Will do!!! Thanks!
Sorry I missed the Q&A but watched it now !!
Thanks for addressing my question!
You're welcome! I hope my thoughts and answer help! KT
Great idea for a video - a DIY paint booth setup! Sure could use that sort of information. Thanks!
Sound on point!
See!!! Im listening!!!! Lol!
Very excited to watch your channel evolve, Kevin! Awesome to have such a personal presentation of professional and technical information.
Lots of people would likely appreciate a series of 'at home' paint and body. I'd love to see a series on the mixing / cleaning area and the best practices of equipment maintenance.
Cheers! Best wishes!
Thanks Kyle!
I watched his Eastwood color sanding vid twice yesterday trying to figure out what I was doing wrong on a motorcycle bellypan. Finally got it. Thanks for the great stuff Kevin!
Tell me what you want to see on this channel I'll help any way I can!
@@paintucation Hey Kevin. I can tell you specifically what I was doing was trying to lay enough clear over some decals to then cut back and not have a seam line, transition, well a step between color and these were vinyl stickers. The clear was a week cured about 3-4 coats. It may be that after cutting most of the peel off I got scared I would burn through. That part also was heavily contoured which made it somewhat more difficult I think.
I dropped a comment regarding spraying Single Stage + Clear in the vid for VGG to the effect of do not exceed ratios and I forget what else. I could probably go copy and paste it here for your convenience.
Another thing I've always been curious about is tint coats, what would happen for instance if I sprayed a colored clear maybe a red or a blue over a black or grey base, solid base not metallic like old school candies but with modern materials. Say I have a 72 Mercedes coupe , decent paint, old, oxidized but complete and rather than do a color change I just wanted to darken it up a bit with even a black tinted clear after sanding the oxidation off the top. am I talking crazy, idk, it might be cool though.
And yes I have too many projects. Thanks again.
Found it: A few questions for Kevin regarding the Kimbelton White, does adding clear to a single stage afford any UV protection, can I color sand without leaving a "ghost", are touch-ups and rock chips any more difficult to repair properly. Also, what is the do not exceed ratio of clear to color?
Edit: I paused the video right right before you answered most of these
I've painted a few cars but never wet sanded and polished them. Been to afraid to ruin them. Definitely going to check out your web site and give it a shot.
Great video!! A video on a dyi setup at home would be great for newbies
Thanks for sharing your experience. Looking forward to seeing your projects.
I get what you’re saying with the type of gun! However, if we aren’t making money with our gun, and if we are just painting one car once, and then maybe another…
I’ve had this conversation with other people, and for those who make their living with their gun of course they’re going to upgrade guns, but 54 year old me with one project vehicle, I’d like to be 100% clean and do the best I can with a decent inexpensive sprayer.
Younger people, getting into the business, are going to want a better sprayer than I will want for my one project.
I’m not sure if I am making sense, I can only hope so.
Hey Kevin what about bumper cover repair video i have a 1979 trans am . I like to know how to properly repair them .
Hi Kevin love the channel.
Keep it up.
Hey Kevin love your videos and thank you for taking the time to tell us about painting I have a question I bought a SATA jet 5500i RP it has a 1.2 tip I see people spraying with this gun at 2 bar pressure but it's a RP gun why do they use so much pressure thanks
Great job Kevin
I’ll admit you kinda fell off my radar for awhile. But I’m subscribed now and hope to learn a lot from you. Thanx Kevin! 🏎️💨
Thanks for the sub!
Thanks so much for this. I believe there are lots of questions that we will send to you. And if you can show a video on color matching and tinting guide? Not alot of info out there to read the tinting guide from paint manufacturer. Also, for blending panel especially silver, does it really matter if the color is abit off especially on the flop and still be able to do a blend and looks good?
I’d like to jump in early, and you may cover this later.
Compressor size is important, capacity is very important…
Setting up your drying system from the compressor to the sprayer is very very important!!
I have two condense line drops right out of my compressor, then I have a riser pipe… after the riser pipe, I have two El cheapo separators in line with drier silica in the second cups, then in line is my second regulator, followed by an inline silica drier and finally the hose to the gun.
Idk, maybe it’s overboard, but it’s what I set up… and haven’t used it yet…🤣
Liked it Kevin good stuff!
Kev is the man
That’s for all of videos . What do you think of the (Blue Jean ) polishing pads they say it will cut mild orange peel pretty good with limited final polish needed. Kandy man and some others have done videos on it.
Hey Kevin. Im looking to paint my 66 el camino. The quotes are outrageous so im going to diy. I was a bit confused after the vice grip garage video and your qna. Is mixing the clear with the base coat cheaper? Ive been told that the less expensive paint lines like urechem dont hold up under uv rays and fade quickly. Is that true? If you had to paint a car for under 2 grand what would be the best option?

Underrated answer

I have a 1955 Chevy Truck. The bed sides have the angle strips spotwelded on. Where its spotwelded there is a dimple. Is it better to fill in with body filler or weld in the dimple of the spotweld? Thanks
If I do a single stage and sand and clear is there an advantage to it. I've done with black and thought looked deeper. If u go that route and buff through and have to repair how would u do it? Thank you for your videos
Central NY
Kevin . Been watching you greatly over the years..
Need help. If I bodyfill a dent on bare metal and prime vs body fill Overtop of epoxy primer how susceptible is my bare metal repair to future corrosion under the paint skin from possible mekp hardner contamination and rust bubbling.... I've asked my collision auto body friends ...
They always go on bare metal.
Hey kevin i got a 85 chevy k20. I have oil canning in the center of both door how can i fix this without heat shrinking the metal
Great info. You are definitely not that guy!
Can you do a video on a turbine system and. Can someone paint a entire car with a turbine system
19 views and 50 likes? Damn u-tube algorithms >:o
Excellent!!
Do you prefer a 1.6 over a 1.8 for primer?
Depends on the primer. What does TDS suggest?
@@paintucation it recommends from 1.5 to 1.8
@@Thatguy-dk8zm GOtcha..... If Im wanting it smooth, I'll lean towards the smaller size, but stay within the recommendations of the tech-sheet. If I want alot of build... I go big!!
@paintucation ok thanks for that
Kevin tetz have you ever seen anybody paint amidexically?
