Mainline Montage: Early 2024 - Heritage Units, Long Freights and Veteran Diesels!
It's been awhile since we've posted some content, so here is a compilation of the many cool trains we have seen so far in the year 2024. This footage was all shot on an iPhone 12 or iPhone 14.
March 2024 - We find ourselves at the Hudson Model Railroad Club in Plains, Pennsylvania. Having the benefit of being a club member, and the former Delaware & Hudson mainline right outside of the building, we were able to several Norfolk Southern freight trains from a unique vantage point of the second story window. It also helped that the leaves were off the trees, giving us a great view of the train action. The daily trains are usually the 10Z & 11Z respectively. 11Z generally comes south past the club in the mid afternoon, while the 10Z comes north usually in the early morning hours, however it does occasionally run a little behind schedule which it did on one of the many rainy days we had throughout the month of March.
January 2024 - We take a break from the freight action and go into the heart of the Big Apple at 125th Street in Harlem, New York City. Here we will see the unique GE P32DC diesel locomotives in action, including one of the 40th Anniversary Units that Metro North has recently painted. These locomotives usually switch from diesel to third-rail electric pickup or vice/versa here at Harlem 125th for the trip into Grand Central Terminal on the former New York Central.
April 2nd, 2024 - On one of the endless rainy days we had in this area for a good month or so, I suppose you could call this the "silver lining in the grey cloud". NJ Rail train 5445 had GP40-2PH #4106 on the head end of the train for some reason. It is not uncommon for a Geep to be tacked onto the hind end of this train for ride to Raritan, but here this CNJ Veteran was in the lead on home rails in Cranford, NJ.
April 27th, 2024 - The Reading & Northern passenger service from Pittston, PA to Jim Thorpe, PA comes past the pedestrian crossing at the White Haven diner in White Haven, PA.
May 10th, 2024 - We snuck in a clip of a UP West line Metra train from our recent trip to Chicago.
April 30th, 2024 - Mislabeled as May 5th, on Tuesday April 30th we catch NJ Rail train 1625 as it departs Secaucus Junction with the New Jersey Department of Transportation-painted GP40PH-2 #4101 in the lead.
April 5th, 2024 - Back to the doom and gloom of winter, NS Southbound train 11Z comes past the Hudson Model Railroad Club in Plains, PA with the 8114 in the lead, the "Original Norfolk Southern" heritage unit.
April 21st, 2024 - It's been a good couple weeks for 11Z with good power, and on this Sunday morning it was no different. NS 1067, the Reading heritage unit was trailing in the third position behind a leaser locomotive, making for a colorful lash-up on another grey early spring day.
May 2024 - Finally, two days of sunshine! NS 11Z on both May 2nd and 3rd both make their way past the former D&H Hudson Yard with regular NS Power in the lead.

zhlédnutí 550Před 4 měsíci
During the summer of 2023, we visited the Land of Lincoln in a trip to the Illinois railway Museum. While out in the Chicago area, we also saw some Metra action. First on our walk over to Pequod's Pizza, famous for its Chicago-style "deep-dish" pizza, we catch an outbound Milwaukee North District train in Morton Grove, Illinois. This train is powered by one of the former Amtrak Surfliner servic...

zhlédnutí 1,1KPřed 11 měsíci
In the month of June 2023, we spent some time in the state of Illinois, the "Land of Lincoln". During our visit we caught many train, including two Amtrak trains at two different stations, along two different former railroads! R&N 2102 - Iron Horse Ramble - July 1st, 2023
zhlédnutí 2,9KPřed rokem
July 1st, 2023. On a hazy first day of July, Reading & Northern #2102 was on the point of the first "Iron Horse Ramble" excursion of the season hosted by the railroad. The weather was a bit strange, with the haze in the air actually being from remnant wildfire smoke in Canada rather than just the normal humidity associated with summertime in NEPA. Nevertheless, the big T-1 makes easy work of it...

DL - Nathan M5 in the Wild
zhlédnutí 8KPřed 3 lety
This footage is a compilation of two days along the Delaware-Lackawanna Railroad. First on May 11th, we discovered by dumb luck that one DL's ALCO locomotives, C425 #2457, was wearing a Nathan M5 air horn, a very uncommon horn to hear in regular service. So we followed the train to Myrtle Street just outside of Scranton to watch the 2457 and 4 other ALCO products grab a set of grain cars to run...

On a beautiful crisp spring morning in Scranton, PA, we are treated to a "parade" of ALCO power. First was see job SC-7 with C425 2423 and RS32 211, followed closely behind by the PO-74 job with C425 2457 leading M420W 2045, C424 2409 (former Wabash B905), M630s 3007 and 3000. And your ears aren't deceiving you, that horn on DL 2457 is a Nathan M5! You bet we were just as surprised to hear this...

4501 be like: Hey you stole my whistle!
I would like to learn how to drive a steam engine
I put the character on the train just for fun. In Casey Junior's cab is Spongebob, diving him, on his tender is Spike, in the orange passenger car is Applejack, Twilight Sparkle, and Rainbow Dash, on the flatcar with the calliope organ and other stuff is Plankton, and Gary, in the red boxcar is Pokey, in the dark blue boxcar is Fluttershy, Rarity, Pinkie Pie, Stewie and Brain Griffin and Roger, on the green car is Mario, Yoshi, and Luigi with the sign "Casey Junior's Back!", in blue car, Joe Swanson, Fat Albert, and Glenn Quagmire, in yellow car Lazlo, Frankie, Squidward, Mac, Bloo, and Grim, in the pink car, Mr.Krabs, Sandy, and Patrick, in the green car Grumby, Raj, and Clam, on the green passenger Bug Bunny, Peter Griffin, Cleveland Brown, Stan Smith, and Daffy Duck, and the Caboose Lois Griffin, Tom and Jerry, and Emmet riding in the back.
I think the reason 90 never did troop trains was because it wasn’t built during or before ww1. Shame they stopped doing this event because it looks pretty fun, and it honors our troops very well.
Best sounding 3 chime that isn’t a long bell.
I love all of Strasburg’s locomotives but 475 will always be my favorite. 89 was the first I saw but something is just special and wonderful about 475. Maybe it’s my love for the N&W, or maybe her history of liveries and whistles. She’s amazing as always in this video and she showed our troops that day that despite her 102 (at the time) years of experience still works and nothing could stop her. Not even an excavator to the smoke box saw her retired forever or scrapped, and we have Strasburg to thank for that.
This video is what made me become a Train Enthusiast
[great, video]👍

Tweetsie railroad railfan weekend 2011
lord she is putting the Big Boy to shame being able to pull that many cars and not require a diesel to help her do it. She is such a beauty
Havin been on the V&T R.R. I must say The Sumpter Valley R.R. is decent.
Geez that bell is going nuts
0:10 what train is that
14:31 18:02 Amazing catch on these NS heritage units, keep doin what you doin. 👍
At 911 the engineer puts the Johnson bar straight up an down. When it’s like that the engine is designed not to move
They should have done a double header with the 142
Nostalgic...
8:59 and 0:10 are the exact same clip.
I remember watching this for the first time back in elementary school. So nostalgic!
8:49 the fact the you can hear 90’s whistle in the distance while 475’s ghost whistle is in session that just makes it really neat
Canadian National 3254 is another beautiful steam locomotive despite it no longer operates anymore at Steamtown.
When 98 was departing the station why is the engineer pulling the whistle on 98
I actually have this CSX train in Ho scale from Atlas CSX 4402
I bet CSX trains did the same exact slow movements on Northern Branch in Bergen County Nj from CP5 at North Bergen yard to Piermont NY with Light engine movements and I've actually caught a few CSX trains in Creskill Nj Closter NJ possibly one in siding by a Freight house in Piermont yard
This was in the 2000s
I like Strasburg 90 it’s my favourite
It Gives Me Nostalgia 😭😭😭
great catches and video of 765 during this train festival run with some good whistle action by its 2 whistles the town through were it passes the gran elevators is not called Ithaca though its called North Star
Wow, that whistle is just pure magic. Hope to see 2317 steam again.
8:21 The best stack talk I ever heard from a steam locomotive 🔥💪🚂
Cab ride of Tweetsie Railroad #12 (Built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in February 1917).
amazing👍🏾 my favorite colors in dark shades🖤❤️
The owner of the station doesn't live there, he lives in a better house further away from the RR. Nice job on fixing it up though.
Beautiful video! I hope you dont mind i used a clip of the alp44 in a short mashing it with a video i took of its current state
😢
Yea he is the one who is in a house
This is a major heads up!
Also, WHY IS THERE NO PM 1225 in this video?!
I wish 4449 and 765 still had these whistles. They’re the best ones!
This is a major heads up!
Glad your still here! Any plans to see 765 in Indiana or 1225 in Michigan, or 2102 again?
Definitely have big plans for 2024!
@@PennRailVideos awesome! You need to see 1225!
