Snakeybus PS4: Making Sure All Drop Offs Are Avoidable for Last Route Cycle of My 2021 Paris Run
LINKS TO RELEVANT VIDEOS
Last cycle of my 2021 PS4 Paris run: czcams.com/video/GR9DX5JbGaA/video.html
Full run of my 2021 PS4 Paris run: czcams.com/video/Vr4z4yyd2gc/video.html
BEING OVER 1700 BUSES LONG
0:11-0:19: Something that’s really nice about the route in my 2021 PS4 Paris run is it’s possible to be over 1700 buses long and still not hit your tail
0:29-0:34: Being over 1700 buses long without hitting your tail helps make it possible to reach 2000 for the console version of Paris
SKIPPING ALL THREE DROP OFFS WHILE BEING OVER 1700 BUSES LONG
-Another thing that’s really nice about the route in my 2021 PS4 Paris run is it’s possible to avoid all three drop offs while being over 1700 buses long
-Being able to avoid the drop off allows you to pick up more passengers, which is important for maximizing your length
-The fact that all three drop offs can be avoided is really nice because unlike some other Snakeybus maps (on both the console and PC versions), that means you don’t have to rely on luck and hope to get a specific drop off for the last route cycle
SUBWAY DROP OFF
1:09-1:25: For the area with the Subway drop off, you can execute the route the same regardless of what the drop off is or what route cycle you’re on because it’s easy to avoid the Subway drop off without compromising any length
NEEDING TO AVOID EIFFEL TOWER AND LOUVRE DROP OFFS IN ADVANCE
-However for the areas with the other two drop offs (Eiffel Tower and Louvre) and when you're at least 1443 buses long, you need to execute the route in ways that will compromise some length in order to ensure those drop offs are avoidable for when you're over 1700 buses long
1:46-1:56: If you don’t execute the second-to-last route cycle correctly and the last drop off is Eiffel Tower or Louvre, then your buses from the second-to-last route cycle will make it harder (if not impossible) to smoothly avoid the drop off
--Not being able to avoid the drop off at this point of the game will most likely lead to your tail extending into yourself, which will most likely lead to the game ending
2:11-2:46: Your final length will most likely be in the 1800s or 1900s instead of the 2000s because the number of passengers wasn’t maximized for the final drop off
-For the executions when you're at least 1443 buses long, you’re essentially going to avoid the drop offs in advance and act as if they’re currently there
-It’s good to do this during earlier route cycles too because it’ll both ensure there’s enough space for the next route cycle execution and get you in the habit of executing correctly
EIFFEL TOWER DROP OFF
3:14-3:24: Before we get into how to skip the Eiffel Tower drop off in advance, here's what it looks like to skip that drop off when it's actually there
3:43-4:23: For the Eiffel Tower drop off area, have the first two lanes be on the sidewalk that’s closest to the Eiffel Tower and then have the last four lanes be on the other sidewalk (I was 1236 buses long in these clips but the concept is still the same for when you're at least 1443 buses long)
5:18-5:29: If you execute correctly, then it will be possible to smoothly avoid the Eiffel Tower drop off when you’re over 1700 buses long (I was 1458 buses long in these clips but the concept is still the same)
NOTE REGARDING THIRD LANE EXECUTION IN EIFFEL TOWER DROP OFF AREA
4:35-4:37: Something I want to point about this clip is that since I was 1236 buses long, I cut into the road while making the third lane in the Eiffel Tower area
-I cut into the road while making the third lane because I knew I could get away with doing that and still have enough space for proper execution of the next route cycle
-If you're actually at least 1443 buses long, stay entirely on the sidewalk
4:59-5:01: When making the third lane, use the gap between the green rectangles on the ground as a reference for when to turn back onto the road from the sidewalk
LOUVRE DROP OFF
5:40-5:52: Before we get into how to skip the Louvre drop off in advance, here's what it looks like to skip that drop off when it's actually there
6:03-6:34: For the Louvre drop off area, have the outer lanes of the two spirals in the area go in between the trees once or twice and then have the rest of those spirals’ lanes undercutting the nearest tree
6:46-6:59: If you execute correctly, then it will be possible to smoothly avoid the Louvre drop off when you’re over 1700 buses long
LAST ROUTE CYCLE EXECUTION
-When it’s the last route cycle, you no longer have to worry about future route cycles having avoidable drop offs
-Since this is the case, now you can drive through where the drop off zone would be in one of (or even both) the Eiffel Tower and Louvre areas to build up more space between you and your tail
7:24-7:36: In my 2021 PS4 run, the last drop off I had to make was Louvre, meaning I no longer had to worry about making the Eiffel Tower drop off avoidable for future route cycles

    Is this only possible on pc is

    • @Mastah_Pete
      @Mastah_Pete Před 2 měsíci

      Yes because along with PC having more lenient boosting algorithms, the maximum number of passengers you're allowed to drop off is significantly higher, which is a major reason for such higher scores being possible. Where x is the length your bus currently is, on PC the most passengers you can have is 5x while on console it's x+100. So if you're 1000 buses long, then the maximum number of passengers for PC is 5000 passengers and for console is 1100 passengers. Being able to drop off thousands more passengers greatly contributes to such higher scores because the way I maximize nearly all my scores is by dropping off at least close to the maximum number of passengers while being relatively close to my tail.

      Thanks Light! And yep I still play as I got things left to do this in this game. Specifically, I'll do the following things and get them done at about a rate of every 2-4 weeks like I have been: -Get improved scores I'm satisfied with for three PS4 maps (Cave, Coriolis, Seattle) so that all my PS4 runs have full run videos for them -Improve scores for five PC maps (Intersect, Miami, Paris, Ring, Seattle); For Ring, I will incorporate the large area on the ground into the main route. The other four maps, I'll use routes based on my more recent PS4 runs because the more recent PS4 runs efficiently uses the map space better than the routes that are used in my current PC world records for them.

    • @Mastah_Pete
      @Mastah_Pete Před 5 měsíci

      Thanks Bashycat! Yeah there's a huge area on the outskirts of this map to help get such long lengths. Miami and Ring also have similar areas outside the normal playing area (especially Miami as that one is by the largest of the three). Generally speaking for Snakeybus runs: -The skill part, I find that using references in the environment helps with some more specific executions (like where to jump from and when, for example). If you experiment to see what consistently works and then do enough cycles of the same thing over and over again, it becomes muscle memory after a while and you don't really need to think too hard when executing a route. -The retention part, I listen to music to make it more bearable. Sometimes I'm in Discord chats with friends, which helps make runs more bearable too. Also it's natural for me to zone out a lot and think about random things (especially in the early stages of the game) but most of the time that doesn't hurt me because as explained in the previous bullet point, I have the route down so well.

    just watching more of your videos :3 what would you say your favorite snakeybus map is?

    • @Mastah_Pete
      @Mastah_Pete Před 5 měsíci

      Hi flytiger! That is a pretty good question. I actually have to think about this one. I guess to start off, a couple of the maps (Dorm and Seattle) are annoying to grind because how long your bus gets depends on getting a specific dropoff location at the right time, which you can't really control. Like on PC Dorm for example, my strategy for maximizing my length and reaching 3000 depends on getting the Toilet dropoff when I'm relatively close to my tail (which is around 1100ish buses long). If I get a different dropoff location instead when I'm around 1100ish buses long, then that's pretty much the run because the next time I get Toilet, my tail will extend into me. Seattle has similar issues. So the luck factor is annoying to deal with for these maps. As for my favorite maps, hmm I honestly don't know because all of the maps are cool in their own way (even the ones I mentioned in the previous paragraph haha). Off the top of my head, Miami, Ring, and Cave stand out to me. Miami has a vibrant atmosphere to it that I think is really neat. Ring has a unique map structure to it which makes for a good challenge when it comes to both planning out a route and following through with executing it. Cave is a really fun one to play once you get the hang of how to fly.

      @@Mastah_PeteI tried replying once on my desktop but CZcams broke so I’m trying again on my phone, and I’m gonna try to remember what I said lol I actually found your channel because I started trying snakeybus on steam deck: it’s surprisingly hard to make it feel logical to play on that thing, mouse and keyboard is easier. I wanted to see if there were any speedruns but no; but there were your high scores! I can’t watch often because of how long they are but I really like them. Next, about hypnosis! I’ve actually been learning a lot about hypnosis recently, and while spirals don’t do much for me, more complex things like zoom in Mandelbrot set videos do. Sometimes I get tranced for hours if I don’t have to do anything! It’s kind of weird. I think instead of spirals snakeybus is hypnotic to me because of some feelings I can’t really describe that the game gives me- there’s something enticingly eldritch about a bus way longer than it should be, filling up an empty city. It’s oddly obsessive to imagine a bus 30 miles long (I think that’s about how long the one in this video was fun fact, using 30 feet per bus segment since the articulated buses in my area are 60 feet long. And finally, I have a question! It’s about length strategy in snakeybus. Would it be viable to, instead of maxing out the passenger load once you’re at 2000 segments, do smaller increases every ten minutes and once the game is either getting too full or getting too slow you build things up until you’re full and then drop them off, and only then use out of bounds to have a safe place to drive while essentially blind from the lag? I’d be interested to see what you think! This and the neighborhood videos are super interesting because of the out of bounds use as a safety net.

    • @Mastah_Pete
      @Mastah_Pete Před 6 měsíci

      @@flytiger575 That's unfortunate about CZcams breaking on your desktop. Hope you did remember everything haha. It looks like at the very least you remembered a lot of it though. I play the Pc version of the game with a PS4 controller connected to my PC. I first started playing Snakeybus on PS4. I've never tried playing a keyboard and mouse but to me, it seems like using a controller would be easier for making precise movements. Maybe using a mouse and keyboard is easier for some people but whatever device is the easiest for people to use is probably personal preference. That's interesting to learn about the effects things like the Mandelbrot Set and my videos have on you. There are some cool and trippy patterns that happen in the Mandelbrot Set so I see how they can be hypnotizing. I've heard similar sentiments from other people regarding how watching my videos make them feel (something else I've heard is that my videos are relaxing). It's always really cool to know that my videos can have effects like that for people. Sometimes playing the game can be like that for me too as once I have a strategy figured out, it's easy to zone out and let my mind wander during the early stages of the game. I did the math using your 30 ft per segment value and I got nearly 35 miles long for the bus. So yeah I'd say your math is about right as we're in the same ballpark. That's crazy to think about a bus being over 30 miles long as I've never actually done the math before for the end of my runs. Generally speaking, I wouldn't recommend trying to do small increases before ultimately maxing out on passengers for the final dropoff because there comes a point where you can't really control how many passengers you pick up. When it's closer to the end of the game, you can't control how many passengers you pick up like you could at the very beginning because at this point of the game, your bus is locked into whatever route you're using. Like if you're doing a spiral on a road that goes around a building as part of your route, you can't skip passenger pick up zones that are on that road. So because you can't skip passenger pick up zones as easily anymore, the number of passengers you drop off towards the end of the game will be larger and there's a chance that this causes the tail of your bus to extend into yourself. It's possible to luck out and end up being relatively close to your tail but again, I wouldn't recommend trying to do small increases because I like to have as much control as possible when doing my runs. This is a strategy I do in many of my Snakeybus runs to keep things more controlled while maximizing my length: -Know how long the bus can be when executing a route for a map (trial and error is often how I end up figuring this part out) -Before starting the game, use math to figure out a target length for the start of the game -Start the game and try to be a little above the target length -Max out on passengers for the rest of the game -If done right, you should be relatively close to your tail when you drop off the last set of maxed out passengers *I go into greater details about this strategy and the math used in the description of my "Important PC Snakeybus Math Formula and How to Use It" video (here's the link to that video: czcams.com/video/UrzenJT7zVA/video.html) Using the out of bounds area as only an escape area after filling up the map is a viable strategy. However, while your bus would still be long, your length wouldn't be close to its potential maximum length if you didn't incorporate the out of bounds area into the route somehow. For my route in my PS4 world record run of Miami (which is the same route as the one in my 6156 PC run but without incorporating the out of bounds area into the route), the tail of my bus is close to me at about 1800ish buses long. In the PC run, I was 2308 buses long before dropping off the final set of maxed out passengers. As you can see, I was able to fit in an extra 500 buses solely from incorporating the out of bounds area into the route (and you can fit in a lot more buses out there too because of how enormous the space is). In this particular run, I just went with maxing out at a length that's a little above 2250 buses because 6000 was a goal I had (which seemed like a reasonable goal at the time) and maxing out when I did allowed me to reach that goal. I do plan on improving this score in the future by maxing out in the late 2000s-early 3000s range because that's about when the effects of lag start to kick in while still not being too much to greatly interfere with how I drive. If you have any more questions or I need to clarify anything, let me know! Always glad to help and discuss!

      @flytiger575 Před 6 měsíci

      @@Mastah_Pete super cool analysis! To clarify I was thinking of doing your run as normal, including out of bounds, and even extending your out of bounds driving to the maximum safe length to allow more segments. So every circuit you’d go out of bounds, but only once you have an almost-laggy bus that’s entirely full would you drop off passengers and jump into an out of bounds area you’ve never driven in before, and therefore an area your back end is unable to extend into. All while still taking advantage of say the cruise ship area.

I was one of those people who needed practice at flying. I remember thinking this map on PS4 was impossible when I first started and being amazed when I eventually got a score of 20 or something like that. If you fly enough over time (whether it's on Cave or any other maps), you'll develop a feel for the mechanics like how to tap the boost button effectively and how much pressure to put on the right stick (if you use a controller) to get the bus to go where you want. -Set reasonable goals along the way. When I first started on PS4, my goals included beating the high score of my friend who was already competent at flying, making the leaderboard, getting 300, 400, etc. -Use the air roll (which is the right stick on controller) to control your direction while flying. If you watch closely, sometimes when I fly, I lean left or right. Some examples of me leaning (some more obvious than others) include when I'm lining myself up for rings and trying to land somewhere specific. Those are me air rolling and often, applying slight pressure is enough to make yourself air roll where you want the bus to go. -To slow yourself down, make your bus face upward (which for controller is pushing the right stick in the down direction) and tap the boost. This is a good way to make flying and landing more controlled.

My strategy for PS4 Seattle involves skipping dropoffs throughout the game so that you can pick up the maximum number of passengers. This video will be necessary because how I skip some dropoffs isn’t as straightforward as it is for other maps. -Endgame plans for PS4 Seattle. My strategy for PS4 Seattle involves dropping off the maximum number of passengers while being at least 1358 buses long. Four Seasons or Pike Place Market needs to be the last major dropoff because no space is lost when skipping these dropoffs with the route I use. This video will show what the plan will be after dropping off the maximum number of passengers for each of these two dropoffs. -PC Cave. I haven’t done anything to improve my PC Cave score. However, docawesome22 got the world record for PC Cave three months ago with a length of 1803 (here’s the link to that run: czcams.com/video/aM_e3oPcxVE/video.html).
