Picking and strumming the four-string instrument (low G ukulele or tenor banjo) with banjo fingerpicks on thumb, index, and middle fingers, and with reversed fingerpick on ring finger.
Díky použití prsteníčku můžu postupně při hraní melodie přidávat k drženému hmatu 4222 další prsty (malíček a prostředníček), až vznikne hmat Em [4432]. Pak už následuje akord A dur [2100] a nakonec D dur [2220] hraný opět prostředníčkem a prsteníčkem kvůli minimalizaci přesunů prstů.
Another song in the key of D major (Kalamajka mik, mik, mik) adds to the basic major chords D, G, and A7 also the chords Bm and Em. The D major chord [2220] is as in the song Pekla vdolky czcams.com/video/9cjcfOaOxVg/video.html held just by middle and ring fingers. When moving to the G major chord shape [0232] these two fingers shift to the neighbour strings and the little finger completes the triangle of G chord shape. Next chord is dominant seventh A7 [2130] - the little finger shall stay on the third fret of the E string, it is not necessary to lift it and place it again to the same fret. The index finger which was not used for the G chord is now ready to held the first fret of the C string. Then follows the Bm chord [4222] where the index finger holds the barre at the second fret (just over three strings) and the 4th fret of the G string is held by ring finger. Thanks to this way of fingering Bm chord I can play the melody by gradual adding of the little and middle fingers to the Bm shape 4222 which then results into Em chord shape 4432. Finally the A major chord [2100] is played before the D major chord [2220] held again by middle and ring fingers in order to minimise the finger shifting.

Zkuste levou rukou chytat melodii z akordových hmatů - pak můžete přidat vhodný rytmus pravé ruky a zazní melodie i doprovod zároveň.

That will work on a lot of BG tunes but wont on a lot. Still pretty dang cool. Why the heck not use the instruments for all its got? I sometimes play Irish jigs on a five string.
I guess you need to change the strings for this tuning?
Nope. There was standard set of strings for CGda tuning, and the outer strings were retuned by whole step (the high a string enjoyed the detuning to g, and the low C string managed the stretch up to D without problems).
Wow. Thank you for the music and the wonderful description of how to play the chords.
Thank you for including the English description also. The tune sounds so familiar. The fingering explanation is appreciated also.
Zni to paradne, nechtel by jsi udelat video, kde ukazes pomalu rytmus a vybrnkavani?
Nadhera..👏👍
Thank you for demonstrating this style on the ukulele.
As far as I know, nobody else does it, so it is apparently my task.
@@mirekpatek You are very innovative. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Hi, where can I find the tablature?
Sorry, there is no tablature available, I play the melody by ear from the chord shapes of three basic chords in the key of C and then in the key of D. I recommend slowing down the video to 0,75 or 0,5.
Very pretty tune. Your ukulele has a wonderful tone.
Thanks. It is all solid tenor ukulele made by Stepan Ondrak. Spruce top, maple back and sides. ondrakukulele.net/galerie/
😊
Is that called a roll in banjo terms? Very nice.
Thanks for all the patterns.
Thank you for the video!
That’s a very nice picking pattern.
Very nice tune and chord/melody style!
It is the cover of this song: czcams.com/video/aA1zb4NfEBU/video.html
Sometimes one of those strums is called the Island Strum (Down, Down Up, Up Down Up). Sorry, I don’t understand your language. Maybe that is what you are saying in the video.
Thank you from Pennsylvania, USA.
This is just small set of videos I made for my lefty friend who insists on flipping the ukulele but not the strings. I try to explain what are the options for the tuning with G string near the floor and A string near the ceiling.
@@mirekpatek I started watching your videos when you were demonstrating how to play the Tenor Banjo in a 5 string (bluegrass) style. It works on the ukulele also. Thank you for all your lessons.
Thank you for posting this. Very pretty.
Another beautiful melody.
Beautiful.
… PERFECT Mirek 👍 …
Thanks Jörg! I hope to see you again soon.
Mirek. Please can we hear some more of your wonderful Tenor Banjo playing. You don't appear to have put up any new banjo vids for a considerable time. Many Thanks.
Thank you for your kind words. I am sorry but my DGdg tenor banjo chapter is closed. I have switched to ukulele in linear (low G) tuning GCea that enables me to strum it as if it were small bluegrass guitar, as well as roll it in a banjo way. So in case new tenor banjo video will be recorded (I doubt so), it will be in Chicago tuning DGbe.
@@mirekpatek Thanks for your reply. You are a great player on Uke or Tenor Banjo, all the best for the future.
I Second wanting to see the picking pattern
It is just boom--chick (single string on boom, multiple strings strum on chick) played by thumbpick only. Or boom--chick-a with the "-a" played by the uppicking of the index fingerpick.
What a wanker
I'm working on these! thank you so much.
So...I play a little guitar and...well I have this bowlback resonator tenor banjo...the company that made it apparently went out of business in 1923 so I guess it's pretty old, I picked it up at some antique store a while back because it's just the coolest looking thing, though I have no idea how to tune or play it, yet...but you sure as heck make me wanna' learn! I found this video while trying to get inspired to do something with it. Love it, especially the frailing part! Thanks for sharing, :)
Very clever!
👏👏👏👏
Great playing..!
Rarely that I hear this good strumming with a thumbpick. Great technique. What uke are you playing?
Thanks! I play the all-solid (spruce top, maple back and sides) low G tenor made by Czech luthier Stepan Ondrak facebook.com/ondrakukulele/
@@mirekpatek Nice, never heard of his work before. Beautiful look and sound!
Unlike the 5 String Banjo you can play in any key w/o retuning & you can even use a capo for easy transposition. The Tenor Banjo, Plectrum Banjo, & even the 6 String Guitar Banjo don't have a Drone String because when Banjoists started playing Jazz they found that it was inconvenient to have that Drone string ringing away out of key especaailly cause horn players like to play in flat keys. So those Banjoists removed the 5th string from their Banjos & started playing w/ a pick so they could play w/ them Blazing loud horns.
When you pick this good, just invest in a 5-string.
Would love more detail on what you're doing. Tx
Perfect!!! :)
Very nice music. Thank you for the chord chart.
This is a great tune.
Great music. I enjoy your style of playing.
Wonderfull
That’s great. Where can I get the tabs please
Looks like you need a pick guard.
Yes my index and/or middle fingerpicks harm the spruce top a bit, so I need periodic repair. I tried the electrostatically adhering pickguard, but it alters the friction of the surface and interferes with my right hand strumming patterns.
Willie Nelson doesn't use one lol en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trigger_(guitar)

I love what you do with the tenor banjo. I love that you play the 4 string banjo like a 5 string banjo.
That would sound great on a banjo ukulele, good job 👍.
Mirek I'm a longtime 5-string player and just purchased my first tenor banjo. Your talent as a multi-instrument player and innovative 3-finger style of playing is very inspiring and I look forward to learning to master playing the tenor like you do. Thank you very much for sharing your wisdom and skills with us. You're mush appreciated!
Thank you for demonstrating how to play these triplets.
