DieCastRestos is a channel dedicated to the restoration and occasional customisation of diecast model cars, revitalising pre-loved toys and returning them to their former glory.
My name is Jason and after watching other ‘diecast resurrectors’ back in 2019, I decided to give modelling a go for myself having had no previous experience. I documented my processes from the very beginning and over the following years have developed and refined my techniques.
There is nothing more satisfying than giving an unloved vintage toy a new lease of life.
I hope you enjoy these videos as much as I enjoy the restorations.

MAJORETTE restomod: 284 Saab Turbo
Restomodding a Majorette 284 Saab Turbo, in the Serie 200 range from 1982 until 1988.
For this glow up, I've taken Majorette's beautiful recreation of a Saab 900 Turbo from 1982. I've not done much to it, keeping the same black exterior and cream interior colour scheme, but I've picked out some details and given it a superb set of period correct Ronal Inca wheels from Diecast Details.
The Saab 900 Turbo was one of the first mass-market turbocharged cars. Saab continued their good work from the 99 with its successor the 900 in 1978. Visually similar, the Swedish manufacturer continued to focus on aerodynamics owing to their aeronautical background. It quickly gained a reputation for its robust and dependable mechanicals. The 900 lasted for 20 years, with the 'New Generation' based on a GM platform only arriving in 1994 following General Motors' takeover of Saab.
Majorette introduced the casting in 1982. Due to its larger rear light clusters, you are able to tell that this is based on a post-1980 Turbo as the earlier models had smaller clusters similar to the 99. My model was from that first year of production, with variations available up until 1988. Spot the sports equipment on the rear shelf - a hallmark of any 1980s Majorette model!

Think for scale I would have deleted the tow hook but otherwise think it looks awesome just the way it is matey! Top job! Those wheels really finish it beautifully! 😉👌
Well done! The wheels look great. Good choice
Awesome job!! Those Inca's look stunning, instead of shortening the axles I would probably add some spaces behind the wheels as they now look too far in. I have the silver (and green) version of these and will definately have a go at refurbing one. Cheers😊
Great job and a lovely story, well done man 😊
Very nice resto-mod - loving those Inka wheels! I have a Saab 900 from Majorette exactly like the one you started with! A few fact-corrections, though. The 99 = "Ninety-Nine", not "Nine-Nine". The model-names of the early Saab cars, (92, 93, 94, 95 and 96 ) were a contiuation of the numbering of the aircrafts Saab 90 and 91. (in 1985, the 99 name was replaced by 90, to make it fit better in the range with the 900 and the then new 9000 - also it got the rear-end of the 900 2-door sedan) The biggest reason for the existance of the 900 (being a substantially updated 99 Combi-Coupe´) was to meet new US safety rules, thereby forcing Saab to stretch the nose of the 99. To differentiate the new car, the name was changed to 900, partly because 100 was already taken by Audi and partly because a Saab should always have a modelname starting with the number 9. The original 900 body was replaced by a new, Opel Vectra-based one in 1994, which after the face-lift in 1998 got the name 9-3, to fit better with the then new 9-5 of 1997. Again, the name had to start with a nine, but now the last digit would indicate where in the range the car fitted. Saab was sold in 2010 by GM to Spyker (of all brands...) and finally died in late 2011.
That looks amazing! Only thing I would have done differently is maybe remove the goofy trailer hookup.
Matchbox had some serious mundane-bangers in the 80s/90s . This, the Sierra XR4i, Astra, and even the Cavalier and Calibra in the 90s.. Then you had all the Tahoes, Expeditions, Grand Cherokees, and various pickups from the states. The Matchbox Gold and Matchbox Collectors lines are seriously underrated. I need to get this casting, and would totally be down for a “C*** P*** Partridge” Sterling custom.. I know he has an 800 but it would work!
I had the '83 silver version when I was a kid. Nice work there. One thing I would have wanted to do is paint in the rear quarter windows in the back door, just a vertical black line in the right place on the glass is all that is needed.
hiya, what green light wheels are they?
They’re from the Dually Drivers wheel and tire pack
Great job 👍🏻
🤗👍❤️👌
love the new music jase
Once again you did an amazing job 👏
Jason, you did a spot on restoration of the Saab! Congrats!!
There was also a slightly lengthened version of the 900 4-door saloon/sedan called the 900 CD, as well as a lengthened 5-door called the 900 Finlandia.
I just found the exact one that you have it looks so sick.
Awesome restoration on this diecast
I am a big fan of the wide wheels that came on some majorette casting. But i have to say you are a master restore. The wheel you have chosen make it look realistic.
Another beautiful restoration their Jason keep up the good work have a good one and God bless my friend
My favorite one yet
This model really benefits from the addition of a chin spoiler. I always wondered why they didn't fit this model with the famous Majorette 3 spokes to mimic the Saab 3 spoke wheels. Great work on this though - I do like the wheels you have used.
PERFECT LIKE ALWAYS ONLY COLOR TO ME IS BETTER YELLOW METALIC 👍😁😄
Nice restoration, details and paint job 👌 👍
These Majorettes always look so much better with the base painted body colour exactly what I do when giving them a makeover. Wheels really set it off nicely.
Really sad that Saab doesn't exist anymore. Nice restoration 👍
Cool. But can’t u space the wheels out rather than shorten the axles?
This is a great restomod.this is how you keep viewers up to the end of the videos.
very nice custom work
looks great again, love what you did with details and the wheels. :) my last job at an auto shop gave me opportunity to work on these, even restore one (boy, once they start to rust they RUST! unfortunately you'll see only half of it until you start to repair it...), take another's engine apart that popped apart for unknown reasons, replaced one gearbox that lost a securing nut for unknown reasons... they actually are mostly die-hard, only plastic parts of course, will die over time. but they are also different in some regards indeed. :)
Sorry not a fan of the black colour paint I think it would have been better in navy blue but good work as always.
As always what a beautiful restomod!! I was afraid you went with a different color. But luckily you chose black. It suits the car and I just like (most) cars in the black color. I cannot stress this enough… this was the era of some of the best Majorette cars. The working suspension and the stamped details in the body and the windows not to forget the small molded items in the trunk/ boot. And some had lensed headlights with great detail in the headlights
7:03 Speaking of that, I own a Majorette Fiat Tipo that has the hat and riding crop of a equestrian rider molded in the trunk.
All those models have the same issue: no mirrors.. but nice work!
That restoration took me back to the 1980s. That's how it looked here in Sweden. You either had a Saab Turbo or a Volvo Turbo. The result was absolutely wonderful and gave me inspiration for my old Majorette Sandals. Keep up your wonderful videos. It's always fun to check in on Friday.
Truly a great car in the real world. I particularly enjoy when you take a fairly good toy (in the quality of manfacture and in playworn condition) and take it closer to a realistic model state. I would like to see you acquire the skill and means to make some form of clear plastic casts or vacuum forms of tinted plastic windshields, but you took this toy into a major step up in quality. Having fun with your toys is way more important than my humble opinion!
I have this car in my collection as well in it's original silver color. I like your refinishing of this classic. The only thing I would have done differently is possible choose another color for the car. While black looks amazing on the real SAAB 900, on this version it does not allow the great details of a Majorette to be shown as clearly. Matchbox made a SAAB 9000 for a while, you should redo one of those as well.
Very nice one of my favourite cars of all time, wheels look cool looks to me like the front is to far back 🤔👍
Awsome Restoration
Great job as always mate, I wonder, do you think these nail technicians' uv lights would be any good to help dry the cars after spraying.
Possibly, I’ve never really considered using them though. I’m happy to wait it out!
SIMPLY PERFECT WORK DUDE 👍

interesting shade of green. I like it. ^^ also neat trick on the wheels, but now they don't look as deep-dish anymore as they looked before? I seem to miss something here. :) SIKU seems to have used the very first gen Cabrio, identifiable by the short bumper corners. the first facelift added longer bumper corners, the next facelift brought the wide taillights. but I'd have to research the exact year first. :)
Great video !!! I’m also started to restore my dads Batmobile, and I have a question about the cast metal divider. Did you didn’t fasten the cast metal divider ?
Good to hear you’re working on one too! I left a large burr on the rivets that hold that metal divider in place so when I pushed it back together it clicked secure. However, if yours is loose, I’d suggest using a drop of super glue to secure it instead
not many people wear this matchbox TVR costume and I'm working on it, the results you made are great by replacing the typical Tuscan chameleon paint
AWESOME …. Great work . Mike .
Nice work, you have to do a fully detailed one next 👍
I have found that it is possible with rattle cans to tint a first layer by applying a second colour to a just painted first layer. The second coat is just a quick one pass over the first.
