  • Restoring a Morestone No. 3 A.A. Road Service 'Jeep', in the Esso Petrol Pump series from 1956 until 1958, and a Benbros No. 34 AA Road Service Land Rover, in the Mighty Midgets range from 1957 until 1965.

These two diecasts are by two different manufacturers and were released at roughly the same time as one another. The paint-less model is a Morestone Esso Petrol Pump Series No. 3 A.A. Road Service 'Jeep' (and by Jeep they of course mean Land Rover), and the squashed one is a Benbros Mighty Midgets No. 34 AA Road Service Land Rover. The Morestone was produced between 1956 and 1958, and the Benbros between 1957 and 1965.
Despite their similar subject material, both companies went about their application rather differently. The Morestone had black trim to the side cast 'AA Road Service' details and to the roof as well as having black painted wheels. The Benbros was yellow all over and its only trim was silver to the grille and front bumper. Each model has benefits and drawbacks when compared to the other, though the Benbros really suffers from its poor quality materials and construction.
I restore both of these Series I based Land Rovers to their original specification and will leave it up to you to decide which is the better model. You may be surprised in the video though!

I really like your style of videos, fixing die-cast while explaining the history behind the die-cast and the car.

They both look great after you restored them. I can see this was a lot of work to make them look new again. Thanks for sharing this.

Nice to see a couple of Land Rovers get brought back to their former glories.

Of the two I prefer the Morestone due to its two colour paint. Though the yellow does look a little thin and opaque in places.
Good save on the BenBros, it certainly needed rescuing.

nice video! i could just suggest that clear coating over liquid chrome does dull it down a little bit tough. anyways, i like how you use paint pens in customizing your diecast specifically, and i would recommend trying out customizing 1/24 diecast, as they have more detail to pick out.

nice and yellow. :) hard to say which one is my fave, I like the more rare and obscure castings usually. recently I caught, for example, a Dinky Peugeot 504 in a complete condition, some Norevs and Polistil, a little Dodge truck by Vilmer Denmark, and an ancient thing made of aluminium cast done after a 1935 Auto Union Type A streamliner racecar. No idea which company made that one, I haven't found anything yet...

    Nice one Jason.
Difficult to pick one as a favourite as they have their own charm.
    Call it a draw. Hahaha.

First time viewer if the channel. Loved the history lesson, wasnt aware of the makes if toys.
A second coat of yellow might have been a good idea perhaps. Thanks tho.

It actually took about 3 coats of yellow. Often these older castings with well defined features tend to just cut through lighter colours. Yellow is always a nightmare though!

@@DieCastRestos I seem to have the same problem with white. I've 'cheated' with yellow in the past by using Montana graffiti paint which seems to stick like sh*t😀

I understand the idea of a true to form restoration, but these were in severe need of upgrades and modifications, modernizations for the wheels and bases
