    Something had to be done about the aberration of a repaint on this Matchbox Major Pack Jennings Cattle Truck. It looks as if it had been once painted brown over its original red and tan livery, and then again in black. The former owner was sure to coat the tyres too. It made it look very dark and mysterious indeed. Sure enough, the rear ramp door had broken off. But with a stroke of luck, the door with its broken hinge was to be found within the trailer.
    The model was in the Matchbox Major Pack range between 1960 and 1967. All models were painted in the same livery except for one very rare variation which had a blue cab and copper coloured trailer body. All models had either grey knobbly plastic wheels or black knobbly or fine tread wheels.
    The cab is based on a Thames Trader, built by Ford UK between 1957 and 1965. The fascia appeared more than once in the Lesney range, featuring on the Matchbox 13C Wreck Truck and the 28B Compressor Truck. However, I couldn't find much about 'Jennings' who I assume were the manufacturers of livestock trailers.

    John Henry Jennings & Sons coach builders started building commercial bodies in1920s, based initially on Crewe Rd, Sandbach, Cheshire
    They mostly built commercial vehicles on many company chassis' including horseboxes for Bedford, Commer & Foden, before being absorbed into ERF in 1963 and finally specialising in building fire trucks for ERF from 1977.

    For the door hinge restoration, would it also be possible to use solder as a repair option?

    • @DieCastRestos
      @DieCastRestos  Před 6 dny +1

      I’ve had mixed results with solder in the past with the adhesion to the cast metal not always being the best. Maybe I need to revisit next time

    Very Very best restauration, but Sorry the ask do you think it is dangerous to use caustic soda?

    • @DieCastRestos
      @DieCastRestos  Před 2 měsíci

      It is dangerous but as long as you use safety precautions like gloves, eye protection, do it in a well ventilated room and dispose of it properly (using sewer foul drainage) then it is fine to use. I’ve never had any issues with it doing all of the above

    When you do the water & caustic soda is the water you use hot or cold before adding caustic soda ?

    Looks great Jason did you dispense with trying to replace the tabs on the top of the ramp? In answer to the other comment they did not come with animals. I actually prefer the later red ramps but from memory the tan is darker on the trailers on those and wheels tend to be black plastic. This is one of my favourite models but that may be because I had one as a child. Certainly a toss up between this and the Davies Tyres Major. Keep up the great work.

      @DieCastRestos  Před 2 měsíci

      I didn’t actually realise I’d missed any! I think I have slight a slight preference for the Bedford TK cab so the Davies Major wins it for me!

    • @keithdunkey6681
      @keithdunkey6681 Před 2 měsíci

      Yes the M2 Bedford has a number of great points. The glazed cab and the excellent decals on both the Davies Tyres and LEP versions. Have you restored one I could not see one in your past videos.
